    After starting minoxidil, if you stop it whilst in the shedding phase due to side effects, will you eventually return to baseline hair density and amount?

    Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.

They will grow back after some time( 2 alpha reductase harmone comes back every 28 days), but some trees might grow early and some very late, so to maintain them you have to cut/ trim them regularly not once in a month( of course you can maintain them with longer gaps but research has not been done but you can always try and maintain your garden according to you) worldwide they advice for once a day.

    Dear doctors! I wanted to thank you for bringing the field forward so willingly. Your discussions are quite valuable. As top pioneers however, I believe you may want to address the Post Finasteride Syndrome that's increasingly receiving academic attention and the potential innovations in the field that should be studied - meaning new/other advanced solutions to replace finasteride. Isn't it weird that we're using something that was primarily designed to fight prostate cancer? Can't we create the same effect in a more targeted manner?

    • @Skareremakes
      @Skareremakes 4 года назад +5

      It hasn't been receiving any academic attention. It's been on hair loss forums since 2009 (the oldest posts I've ever found). Just like new advancements for hair loss medication, studies for PFS are something coming in near future. So like in over 10 years, do you think nothing would be found about an issue so big. Also tell me one thing why is it propeciahelp and not proscarhelp even though proscar has been around for a longer duration?

    • @downo
      @downo 4 года назад +4

      @@Skareremakes, not sure whether you are an academician or not, but I do have to disagree based on easy-to-find findings. To me it seems there are hundreds of emerging studies about what the side effects of finasteride - and quite honestly, there will always be considering what a sizeable issue this is.
      Also you seem to have mistaken my comment: namely, I never suggested whether I think PSF is an accurate representation of finasteride as a hair-solution. Instead, I press to importance how much of a major concern it is. We must ensure clinical research is committed to PFS to make treatments healthier.
      Also, I am not able to answer your question because I lack information concerning propeciahelp and due to both of them being used in different dosages over different schemes and treatments for distinct treatments. In fact, I do believe you have a full disbelief to the potential side effects of both medications we've talked about and I can only think that this is not a healthy approach to finding a more solid key.
      Are you an active user of finasteride? Do you claim it is too safe to even have scientific discussions over? Curious!

Sides are very much real and are always due to hormonal imbalance. Estrogen being high and testosterone being low (simplified explanation) what I find hard to believe is how PFS is a thing. If the patient starts to loose hair after discontinuing then he should also be working completely fine as the effect of drug is over. I don’t disregard pfs in any way for sure. I sympathise and pray for them. But to your comment I just meant to say no big scale reputable studies are being done on pfs. Only studies are being done are by pfs foundation and propeciahelp, which the medical community disregards always as their is always biased towards their agenda.

      Correction. Finasteride was NEVER designed to, nor does it treat, prostate cancer. On the contrary, in INCREASES the risk of high grade (deadly) prostate cancer. Neck Man Serum DHT levels return to base line after cessation, so don't say they won't. As for estrogen, you can manage that by working out. Estrogen increase comes from the aromatise of testosterone. Some studies have even shown that testosterone deceases. However some shows testosterone increases, nonetheless estrogen levels may increase from finasteride HOWEVER they can also be reduced. PFS showed no statistically significant difference between PFS users and finasteride user and control groups.

      Don't take finasteride if you want to concieve, personally I waited untill I had all the children I wanted before starting. If your already on it then speak to your prescriber they have a duty to help or speak to your doctor.
      You do not want to concieve a boy while on finasteride, it can really mess with them. You should stop taking it for a couple months (but check with a doctor) then concieve and get back on it once your partner is pregnant.

    I was using fin 1mg 3times a week for 90 days , hair loss decreased alot now i lose only 4-6 hairs per shower where before taking fin i would lose at least 30 hairs per shower and there wasn't any side effects except my sex drive has decreased a little bit but not to the point where i face problem for erection . But last week i decided to take Fin every other day now my sex drive is very low should i continue taking every other day or i go back to 3 times a week ? The only reason that i increased the frequency is because i wanted to stop my hair loss completely (4-6 for me is still something 😅) hope i get respond

    I quit Fin for about 3-5 months to switch to a more natural treatment - saw palmetto and rosemary essential oil. For a time, it actually looked like my hair was improving, then it all came crashing down. I now have noticeable thinning on the top of my head with excessive hairloss after showering.
    Restarted Fin about a month ago along with minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo and felt stubble on my scalp.
    But it’s difficult to tell if it was due to miniaturization, or if it’s new hair growing in. Time will tell.
    It’s stabilized again, lesser hair loss with no progression of balding. Goal is to stop progression of hair loss and hopefully regain some, if not all, of what I lost.

    I’ve been taking 1.5mg of finasteride every day since 2001. My hair was falling out and my hairline was receding quickly in 2000. As soon as I got on finasteide my hair grew back. Now at 47 my hair line is receding like it was in 2000. I’m starting minoxidil tonight. Please share any thought/questions.

I’ll keep you posted of my results.

    How does Finasteride effect secondary sex characteristics of things like growing a beard. If you take Finasteride, does the lower level of DHT simply mean that improvement of one’s beard by dermarolling and minoxidil will simply take longer? Or will it simply prevent improvement altogether?

    • @MrJakeyyy
      @MrJakeyyy 3 года назад +2

      I can’t speak on the science of this. But I can give you my personal experience after taking 0.5mg everyday of finasteride for 2 months.
      I already had a beard before I started taking finasteride. I was 24 years old when I started so my beard was already mostly “developed”. Taking this drug has not changed my beard. It’s still the same thickness and there isn’t any noticeable change to my beard. The only way I think finasteride will affect beard growth is if you take it during puberty.

    If you take a break from fin to see if the sides stop, how long would you expect it to take for sides to go away during a break, a week, two weeks, a month? And if you took a break off fin for 1 month after taking 1mg a day, could this cause further hair loss during that one month break?
