    Here is my story:
    I got severe side effect (muscle pain all over my body) just a few hours after taking the first pill of 1mg fin. But i persisted on the same dose (1mg daily) to see if i could get any results or my body could adjust. Surprisingly, after a month, i had seen great results where new hair popped out from the complete bald spots on my crown, but my body only got worse with pains everywhere.
    I convinced myself to endure the side effect bc of the unbelievable outcomes up to the 3rd month. Then i found out the customized dose which is 3mg per week. I switched to that and the side effect got a little bit better but still didnt go away. After 6 months of taking the drug, my joints became weak and i guess i have arthritis, pains were still there. So i decided to quit it.
    Now after 2 months not taking fin, my body gets much better (still minor side effect notice) but my hair starts falling like crazy. This really stresses me out. Seems like i am a great responder to fin both in results and side effect.
    Honestly, over the past 8 months with finas (6 on and 2 off), my body has never been "normal" as it used to be. I did gain my confidence back when going out but at the cost of my health.
    I am now trying other less strong ways like natural dht blockers or topical fin (I can only get 0.1% topical fin and it seems a bit too high concentration so I made myself 0.01% topical one to see how my body reacts, maybe i will increase the concentration in the future). Hopefully they can work for me without side effects.
    If you are taking the drug and see good results without side effect, you are blessed.
    Anyone who experiences the same with me or any advice? :(

      Hey I am not a doctor or your doctor. Just my opinion on what I will do if I were in your situation. Why not start EVEN LOWER till tolerable dose. Maybe start 0.5mg (half tablet) once weekly... titrate up. Maybe 0.5mg once weekly for 2-3 weeks. Then 0.5mg twice weekly for 2-3 weeks. Keep titrating higher till lowest tolerable dose. Some finasteride is better than none. Now if I reacted to even 0.5mg once weekly then I'll just accept the truth unfortunately. However, in the mean time, hopefully the topical formulation works!

I still remember the day 6.5 years ago when I looked into the mirror and just so much of my hair wasn't there anymore, I knew that it won't be a long time until it gets much worse unless I do something, took a long time to find balance in terms of the dosage, but still, I am very grateful to this medicine for giving me the chance to keep my self-confidence.
    I also remember that 6.5 years ago I asked a doctor at the pharmacy for advice and she told me not to take this medicine but because I saw no other hope and I didn't listen.
    Sometimes I wish more people knew about this because many people somehow don't start to do the research when it happens to them, they just accept their fate and maybe over time they can regain their confidence...I am just so sorry that millions of men have to go through this. However, I am proud of this community who, some years ago, took the time and effort to sit down and research on the internet/YT and came to the same conclusion as we did, that finasteride helps, and in most cases, it was not too late to start taking this medicine.

    As a non-expert, I find Dr. Knudsen's estimate for how quickly you lose hair after stopping fin pretty intriguing! My very first reaction is how can blocking 5ar be the primary method of slowing hairloss if someone after 20 years of blocking dht goes to their genetic baseline after 6 months of quitting fin? Surely it would have serious implications for the actual mechanism of hairloss and imply that a lot of hairloss boils down to age-related follicle sensitivity to androgens as opposed to androgen follicle sensitivity?

Whatever hair you grow you slowly lose again, but depending on how much thicker and denser your hair got and how sensitive your hair is to dht will determine how long it takes to return to baseline. Could be 6 months, could be 6 years. 14 months after stopping fin my hair has not returned to baseline I’m waaayyyyy above it and my beard fell out too

      I agree. I took fin for 15 years. Stopped taking it like 6 months ago. Have I noticed more hair loss than usual? I'm pretty sure I have but it's hard to say. One thing that I'm sure about is that my hairline is still much better than it would have been if I never had started taking fin in the first place. I'm not ruling out going back to propecia but wanted to see if my sex drive improved by quitting. The first months I thought it did, but it was summer and I quit a very stressful job. Now I really can't say I feel much of a difference. My doctor doesn't want me to get back on fin again, but I'm quite sure I will, given the fact that I've really not much to lose except my hair. I don't have any ED either.

It reduced the size of my prostate to some extent, from 270 cc to 190 cc which reduced the urinary symptoms enough that I could urinate when needed. My hair has continually slowly gotten thinner. Whether it kept hair from falling out is questionable to me. I'm considering surgery to hopefully eliminate the urinary and defecation issues (the enlarged prostate is causing me to go back and wipe my butt many times after defecating.)with the enlarged prostate and to get off finasteride. I got better results from the onion, but I didn't stimulate blood flow to my scalp when using rosemary oil, which could be a factor. Whichever method you use, I wish you good fortune.

    I’m 30 years old with “ethnic hair”, I used expired hair bleach multiple times at 18 years old (a family members was going to cosmetology school and left the bleach around)
    I got a hair transplant 2 months ago and despite am using finasteride do not believe I need it… my donor area was amazing and the results already look good
    I think in the case of hair loss solely from chemical damage, one does not benefit from finasteride in the same way that someone naturally balding would. In the case of chemical damage, the hair follicle was destroyed not from DHT but from environmental factors.

    i had a hair transplant and started finasteride. I took Finasteride 1mg for 3 times a week for about 4.5 years. In between i took break for a month every 6 montly.
    Recently for planning a pregnancy i stopped finasteride for about 3 months.
    Now i have re started the finasteride. However, i have noticed hair fall more than usual.

      You still get sheds when on finasteride, but the hair will grow back, as long as your taking it you will be fine.
      What has your side effects been like on your break schedule? I took a 2 week break after my first year amd then skipped it for my 2nd and 3 months later, so 15 months since my last break, I got bad ED so have taken a 3 week break and are pretty much back to normal and will go back on fin again. I was taking 1mg every day though. Will do every other day now.

I stopped taking it like six months ago and while I think I've lost a little bit of hair it's nowhere as bad as it would have been if I had never even started in the first place. I can say without a doubt that finasteride is the worst medication in the entire world for men and their cognitive health along with their sexual health. If you're already just someone who isn't driven and someone who has low self-esteem then finasterides just going to keep you in that zone. So do it if you want to do it. But if you're someone who actually likes yourself feels good every day. Believes in yourself. I'm telling you this will change your life for the negative and you're going to have to go back and rework and re -calibrate your entire brain body. Your androgen receptors they're going to have to work through so much to try to get back to what you lost in yourself. The drug companies couldn't pay me 10 million right now and that we would be even from the damage they have done. That wouldn't be enough.

If they are dead and the hair is dead then how could dermarolling work? I've seen a bald guy getting his hair back, maybe not "great" hair, but he was very bald and got some hair back. I have very full hair everywhere but on top of my head. This is a very depressing topic, lots of dread, maybe a cortisol creating topic.

    I feel that the graph that they drew and the dramatic 6 month escalation of loss to be a bit alarmist- unless it is highly aggressive MPB. If you blocked 5AR for 10 years between 30 and 40, by the time you are 40, it is reasonable to suppose the body's production of DHT will not be the same as it was at 20 or 25 or 30 or 35. The lower rate of DHT production, even though higher than where the person was whilst on Finasteride, along with the amount of hair present just makes that- respectfully- absurd to me. So suppose someone starts Finasteride at 30 whilst at Norwood 2, he comes off at 40, his Free test levels are lower than at 30, but now hes going to jump in 6 months to Norwood 7?

    In a lot of cases of long term side effects, they don’t actually take effect until after you’ve stopped. I only had minor side effects while using Finasteride, but a few days after I stopped, I experienced what only can be described as a crash and everything got worse, including new adverse effects developing over weeks. I am still suffering these effects almost a year after stopping.

      Could this crash maybe have a different cause? Because as the doctors said: Finasterid stays in your body for months. Thus, a crash within a few days after stopping taking the medication seems unlikely to me. (Not a doctor).

      What else would cause such a crash with all the side effects of Finasteride and more? Seems a little coincidental that thousands of people with post finasteride syndrome would describe it the same way. Also within the first few weeks AFTER STOPPING Finasteride.

    • @sylydyly
      @sylydyly Год назад +4

      The medication might still be in your system but at lower concentrations. It won’t take that long for 5AR enzymes to return again, and it has been demonstrated that after cessation, DHT can return 4 fold after suppressing it for however long.
      This likely has something to do with the androgen receptor becoming over expressed while using the medication due to a lack of androgens. A sudden increase in DHT to an over expressed AR is what would cause such a “crash” I believe.

    I'm sorry Doctors but I think you're confusing minoxidil with finasteride here. The graph Vikarim drew initially was indeed true for finasteride but then the one Russel "corrected" was actually the pattern for minoxidl and not that of finasteride.

    • @wanderingdoc5075
      @wanderingdoc5075 2 года назад +1

      I tend to agree. I think they were a bit confused. With Minoxidil you're immediately going to go back to if you had never used it. If you're on finasteride for 10 years and then stop you're not going to crash that if you have never used it. You're going to progress at the same rate.
