  • Q+A time! Thank you for all your comments and questions over the last 16 episodes. There were quite a few questions on Finasteride and Minoxidil; so we thought that we would answer the most common questions that we had been getting.
    1. What is the optimal dose of Finasteride?
    2. Can you use both Finasteride and Minoxidil in combination?
    3. Are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday good days for Finasteride?
    4. Do you have a vested financial interest in Finasteride?
    5. DO you take Finasteride yourself?
    6. Do you need blood tests prior?
    7. Can Finasteride re-grow hair?
    8. Is Finasteride safe in pregnancy?
    If you have enjoyed this particular episode format and would like more Q+A, please let us know in the comments sections and keep the questions coming!

    I think the most interesting part of this video is the part they discussed the 50% shrinkage diameter in hair strands. I've been taking finasteride for a few months now and i think I have noticed thickening from photos I have taken but I was still concerned that there are still wispy bits I can see which worried me it wasn't having an effect. Possibly it means those wispy strands were already beyond the 50% mark but did indeed thicken somewhat and the other parts I feel I noticed better/fuller thickening means it did indeed do just that.
    This series is extremely informative and I appreciate the no nonsense yet kind approach of this podcast.

    Thank you for this, doctors, but I think your approach to pre-finasteride serum biomarker measurements (or, lack thereof) is overlooking the fact that knowing pre-treatment testosterone, DHT, SHBG, and estradiol can tell us about the risk of side effects with use. This is an important consideration; after all, you do acknowledge yourself that "lack of side effects" is a marker of treatment success. I would highly suggest you consider this.

    I’ve been researching one issue doctors don’t generally talk about, and that’s the changes in male hormonal profiles. For instance, when testosterone goes up as a side effect of finasteride, it also raises estrogen levels. This can cause male fat gain and lack of muscle maintenance even when weight training. Wish they could cover that issue.

    • @princekiki33
      @princekiki33 Год назад +10

      Problem is in order for that to have a real effect, testosterone has to go up alot. If you have a 450 level test and It goes up yo 600 that's still very insignificant

I am in pretty rough shape, crown in particular is pretty bad. It's my last shot at this before I decide to cut it all off. I'm not ready for that so I will fight. I told her I was new to this and afraid of the side effects, partly what kept me from trying this at all. Thoughts on topical finasteride? In theory, can it work the same way that oral does? Can it mean fewer side effects due to less impact on serum DHT? Can it mean better results since DHT reduction in the scalp is supposedly more with topical application? Do you reckon it will be a viable and approved option in the near future? I know there are a few promising studies on it.

    Because of this video, I've been taking 0.5mg (half a pill of 1mg finasteride) 6 days a week for about six years. I started around my 27th birthday at 1mg, and I just turned 33. At 1mg (the first year of taking finasteride), I felt some side effects (chest tightness, lower libido), but at the same time, I was also dealing with intense stress from being self-conscious about my hair loss and paranoid about side effects. After finding online that the efficacy is roughly the same at a half dosage with fewer side effects, I lowered the dosage. Since then, I have had no noticeable side effects, and my hair is the same with no noticeable hair loss from age 27 (I take photos once a month to track it).
    I should note, however, that while the rest of the men on both sides of my family are bald/balding, my 70-year-old father has nearly as much hair as I do. His father (my grandfather) was bald in his 30s, but his father's father (my great-grandfather) had a full head of hair until the day he died! Go figure. If there was a better test to figure out whether or not I was actually losing my hair or if this was my natural "mature" hair pattern like my father's, I'd pay for it.
    It's a little tricky for me to determine whether some depression I occasionally feel is due to the drug, my family history, or both. Many male and female members of my family deal with mild depression. In general, I have not noticed any issues with my sex drive or sex life, and if anything, as I got older, it improved alongside my overall confidence, as one would expect.
    That said, as I got older, I also became more comfortable with the likely chance that I'd be mostly bald one day. As you can see with both of these guys in the video, being bald does not mean you are not attractive. Some of the most powerful men in the world are bald. Some of the most attractive (as ranked by women) are as well. This is something I came to terms with myself, and it really helped me relax about the inevitable loss of my hair when I stopped taking the drug. Confidence, personality, overall health, and fitness -- and frankly, whether or not you had a good-looking face in the first place -- really are more likely to determine your "attractiveness" than your hair ever will. Some people also look better bald, especially in their 40s onward: The Rock, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, Ed Harris (even looks badass with the donut hair), John Travolta, etc etc.

    Dear Drs- first of all excellent channel and content. Finally some detailed content that is impartial (and from qualified experts in the field), which covers a multitude of key issues relating to hair loss. I have some questions and would be grateful for your response 1) Can PRP and/or hair transplant surgery potentially damage native/healthy existing follicles/hair? 2) in terms of hair transplant/PRP treatment, i currently take minoxidil in conjunction with finasteride (1mg daily). When you have these treatments how long do you need to cessate minoxidil and how long before you can start to reintroduce? Will stopping cause any harm/recession of progress during this period? I appreciate it is totally appropriate to continue with finasteride during surgery/post surgery. I would be grateful for your response. Many thanks

    • @TheHairLossShow
      @TheHairLossShow  4 года назад

      Thanks for the question.
      Generally, hair transplant and / or PRP if done correctly should not cause further hair loss.
      If you are having a hair transplant, you don't need to stop minoxidil (apart from the 1 week immediately post operatively). In fact, continuing with minoxidil after the hair transplant may increase the rate of regrowth of the transplanted hairs. Good luck.

    Hello Drs. I had a major diffuse hair shed at 19 after a 3 month cycle of primobolan oral. I've not used AAS since. I'm 47 now. I've tried finasteride 1.25 mg daily, minoxidil and ketoconazole 2% over the years with limited regrowth. More recently I've taken 10 mg of boron daily to help with fitness goals which appears to have aggregated my hair thinning. About 3 years ago I had a hemithyroidectomy (benign nodules) but Tsh/T4 and all other lab values have been WNL. Would it be beneficial to retry ketoconazole 2% shampoo daily or qod with finasteride for hair growth or am I barking up the wrong pathway? I'm not a fan of retrying minoxidil as the ETOH base dries out my scalp and hair. The main issue is crown thinning and not much of a receding hairline nor baldness. Thank you in advance.
