    Finasteride 5mg is prescribed for prostate problems primarily because inhibiting DHT has been shown to be very effective in reducing the symptoms of BPH and improving patients' quality of life. Although there is a potential risk of increased estrogen levels following a rise in testosterone, this risk is considered minor compared to the overall benefits of the treatment.

Based on my observations, I don't notice any significant improvement in my hair loss.

    Hi Dr Vikram, I mistakenly left my plastic container of compounded finasteride right in front of a fan heater for around 15 minutes, to the point where the container and the supplements got quite warm/hot (enough to warm my hands considerably but not burn them). When I realized, I immediately put them in the cool drawer that I usually put them in. Will the effectiveness of the finasteride be in anyway degraded with this type of exposure to heat for this duration? I've been taking the finasteride for eight days since this happened. Would you recommend throwing the finasteride out and getting a new batch? I want the full effectiveness possible and don't want any reduced potency.

    Hi there, I've used finasteride for about 10 months with great results but stopped it 15 days before my marriage. It's been a month and a half since the wedding and my wife is expecting. I've been only using minoxidil for the last 2 months so I was curious if I can continue with finasteride again (does using finasteride while my wife is pregnant cause any side effects/complications for the child)? I've read somewhat conflicting instructions, but I would love an answer from you. I've only used topical solution

      Topical fin will become systemic. You’re just changing the way your body absorbs it. The reason I don’t like topical is it is really hard to know how much is actually going in to your body, it could be more than you need. Also it puts other people at risk, as your wife or children could come in to contact with it.
      I’ve moved from topical to 0.25mg pill every other day and will see how it goes.

    I tried 0.5mg fin daily for six months. In the beginning my libido went up, then it became normal, then it plummeted after a few months. I took three months off and went back to normal but my hair started thinning again. I freaked out and restarted, again same thing. First libido went up, then normal, then it eventually plummeted. I took a break for three months, again freaked out at the thinning, i restarted it again on july 1st, going to try 0.5mg every other day.
    I hope this works but if libido dies again after a few months i guess i just cant handle this drug so rip hair. Does anyone have any suggestions for the sides to go away?
    I dont even understand why taking 0.5mg every other day vs daily will even help since apparently the dht reduction is the same. So why do ppl get fewer sides with a lower dose if 0.25mg fin has about the same dht reduction as 1mg? Nobody ever seems to answer this question. The only answer that would make sense to me is placebo effect unless fin affects other chemical/hormonal pathways apart from dht that lower libido.

      be careful

    • @sammy68786
      @sammy68786 5 дней назад

      What happens is probably that :
      First you block some conversion of testosterone to dht, free test is elevated, causing more libido and a bit more estrogen conversion. Then, after a while, more free test and more e2 cause a negative feedback on test production and it lowers, so probably that at some point, you have a bit less free test than normal with e2 slightly higher than normal and dht is now at it’s minimum due to max concentration of the drug in your blood. Now libido is down.
      There is many options i think could work:
      Really low dose dutasteride, which has a longer half life. Something like 0,5 every 5 or 7 days. You gotta find the lowest dose that protects your hair without sides.
      Lower dose fin, like you said 0,25 eod maybe it will work.
      Adding something that reduce conversion of test to e2 or augment metabolism of estrogen like zinc or dim or even an aromatase inhibitor like aromasin or arimidex but i wouldnt recommend it or to do it with care and really really low dose.

    • @Luckyluckyluc
      @Luckyluckyluc 4 дня назад

      Finasteride only stays in the system for a few hours but the DHT reducing effects linger on for around 72 hours - no matter the dosage; that's why a lower dose is better for preventing side effects rather than just reducing the frequency you intake the drug.

    • @sammy68786
      @sammy68786 4 дня назад

      @@Luckyluckyluc it’s not 100% of the dht reducing effect thats stays for a few days, reducing frequency of intake by half (eod) should reduce the total dht reducing effect. Not by half I agree.

      You know what else is not talked about? The metabolites from dht. You lower them too very strongly. What do you expect from an anti androgen? The goal of finasteride is excactly this and the only side effect is it slows down hairloss.

    If we only want to reduce DHT a certain amount to prevent baldness, isnt DUT too much then because it blocks like 90 percent of the DHT? But at the same time we get more DHT as we grow older right, so DUT may be good?

    Im 48 now and now and certainly my body is creating less dht than it was say 10 years ago. The normal goal of fin is to reduce dht by 70%. Might i now be better using a very weak topical dose that may lower dht by say 20%. I.e the older you get is the liklihood that lowering dht by 70% going to be that whats left of your dht is just not going to be enough? I ask because i am getting more sides now than i was when i started on fin 5 years ago. My total t and free t are in the normal range but not that robust.
