“For-profit” or “insurance” two terms that should never be allow near a healthcare system. Some things in life should not be based on a “business model." For example, the fire department. There is no profit motive. There is no concern about whether you could “afford” to have the fire put out or not. You make the call and the firefighters do their best to put it out. Healthcare could be just like the fire department. No pre-authorization middle man insurance company needed. *Universal Medicare for All* now!
The only way Medicare for All, will work… is to make Medicare a Government Insurance Only and Not Privatized Healthcare through companies like UHC! The government already pays Private Insurance (Medicare Advantage) over $200 more than Market Rate per person, for the same insurance provided under Original Medicare Insurance!

Luigi Mangione was a classic tale of injustice and a young man on a "hero's journey". This is a fantasy millions of people would think of, but never act on.
Ah yes, a classic tale of injustice meanwhile it came out that he was never even a client of united. But hey I suppose your utopia would involve people going around murdering everyone they don't like. Trust me, you don't want that.

Over the past 50 years, corporations have gained ridiculous wealth and power at the expense of citizens' well-being. Congress is owned by corporations and our representatives are enriched by them. When government fails the needs of the people, it's not surprising that people take matters into their own hands. This act was just one person, expectedly angry, trying to initiate any change he can. What is surprising is that it has taken this long. People are angry and their anger is justified.
I visited Taiwan in 2019 and I was sent to the hospital because of a severe heart problem. While I was receiving treatment, pandemic came there was no flight back to USA, so I had to have my treatment in Taiwan. Not to say that their hospitals, their equipment were all first class, I didn’t have to wait for weeks to see a doctor, for almost every type of problems, I can walk into any hospital, any clinic and see the doctor if the line is not too long and the best thing is I pay only $28 a month. I had angioplastic with three stents and stay in hospital for almost one week. I told them that I will pay for the treatment myself our pocket, and I was surprised to see the whole deal was just a little bit over $3000. Before I went to Taiwan, my insurance monthly was $1100 a month and if I want to see a doctor, I have to wait weeks for my appointment. So the question is, why we pay so much money and get so little services? When I told my experience they asked me where the Taiwan government got their money from? I said, it I guess we should ask ourselves where we spent our money to? We should have the government runs the health care system like Taiwan
Even in Cuba, state of the art healthcare is free to everyone, including those who are just visiting the country. Why is it not free in the most prosperous country in the world?
Even in the poorest African countries in the world although healthcare is not necessarily free but it is much more accessible and affordable. Basic healthcare might cost a person's 2 months salary but they wouldn't go bankrupt and they can have access to doctors right away. But I've read even ultrasound costs really high in the US. I'm wondering why.
It could be said that George Washington was a murderer of the British ruling government. I agree tho, murders can easily get out of control then just become madness.
It's ridiculous to " support" a murderer. There is zero justification for this killing. He could have used the money he is spending on a lawyer to fund a campaign to expose UnitedHealthcare claims denial policies.
I believe this is a false equivalence. The “corporate greed” you speak of has affected millions of people, and killed thousands with tactics of attrition. if your point was emphasizing that one cannot justify murder for one rather than murder for all, i see your point. But. I simply do not care that a billionaire was murdered. Take a step back and realize that the family of the deceased ceo is set up for life if they choose to live beneath their means. We live in a country that prioritizes putting its “undesirables” in a jail and making them do slave labor, a court system ruled by the rich and those with connections, corruption at every level of government, and meddling in the affairs of other countries abroad so that things could be cheaper over in the united states. “Corporate greed” is murder, blackmail, battery, terrorism, slavery, war, famine, gluttony and more. Shut up and read more books, idiot.
Thank you🙏 Democracy Now for having the important conversations and interviews that corporate media outlets are avoiding while further alienating and dismissing the general public
Just let the public decide what's important in the manifesto. People are getting sick of the gatekeepers and spin doctors of media. Get over yourselves.
No one said you can't read the manifesto or make up your own mind. Do you not grasp that this guy published it so the public can do exactly that? And there is zero wrong with them discussing it. By doing so , they aren't telling you what to think.
And yet the majority voted for Trump who is the poster child for exactly the kind of CEO people are saying they hate and will only exacerbate all the issues that already plague America. I don't understand the cognitive dissonance
@@dalbriggssWhat about when it happens because you don't pay your workers a living wage? You don't get to qualify which greedy pigs are okay and which aren't

Your doctor is face to face with you. Insurance companies are not face to face and not your doctor. They are the BANK! All they are supposed to do is pay up! They are NOT supposed to be judge, jury, and executioner. When, why, and how were they given this power?
Thank you, Ken, and Democracy now for your independent journalism. I grew up in a communist country and was told state owned media are the worst, but I can confirm that corporate media are rising to the top of the worst of the worst.
Greed is king. In January I was terribly ill so I went to the clinic, and had United Healthcare. After seeing 2 Dr's, totalling no more than 2 hours combined the bill was 10k, to find out I had strep, a sinus infection and slightly high blood pressure. Now I'd had UHC for 6 years, always paid and what they sent me was a letter/bill saying " we are not paying this, but we negotiated for you so you only owe 2k" WTF. This is why nobody even WITH insurance wants to go for simple things. The bill is still huge and thier profits continue to climb while the American public goes broke. A common saying I hear from international friends " America, the only place in the world where you face financial ruin by getting sick or educated"
I am not even kidding. It is cheaper to come to Brazil, get the best paid healthcare in São Paulo and go back to America depending on what you're doing. My family that lives in the U.S. does that. I am not talking about free healthcare, they came here to pay because the free healthcare system can take a lot of time.
I've seen it on my end too. It's frustrating paying at the office and then turn around and pay more because my health insurance refuses to cover, or covers a minute amount.
All that will do is make a few torte lawyers wealthy. Consumers will each see a check for $25 and United will go back to ripping off consumers even more to make up for their losses. I agree with the sentiment, but it won't do what you would hope it would.
Yes all those people who joined Occupy Wall Street, it raised the issue but I'm not sure that it changed anything. Has there been anything like the reintroduction of the Glass Steagall Act? We have the same problem in the UK where the politicians were talking about putting a firewall between the functions of Investment and High Street banks, but I don't think it happened and the bankers are back to pulling down pulling down monster bonuses.
Politicians always ask the wrong question in public. Either to obfuscate or confuse the issue, or because they are simply inept. The question should be why is the government and judiciary allowing predatory criminal behavior with these corporations that effect the citizens of the country adversely.
Healthcare insurance companies should not be publicly traded on the stock. There is an inherent requirement to make maximum profits and increase stock price for shareholders.
Exactly. I worked for a stockholder owned Corporation and ever since it went public it was nothing but stress and changes. Took 10 years off of my life.
Or they could just not be allowed to become cartels. If there were many private insurers the ones that were shitty wouldn't have anyone sign up. With all the nuts rules UHC can be as shitty as they want to be.
Please help me to understand, where was/is the outrage against these companies that deny people healthcare? Some of whom died , or had their lives cut short, as a direct result of being denied that care. I do not condone what the shooter did, but I do understand it. With regards to the lack of sympathy, you cannot have it both ways. You can care for, and treat people justly, in which case they'll love you for it. OR, you can screw over, and mistreat people, in which case they'll hate you.
0.0005% of Americans are Billionaires. Which coincidentally is exactly how much sympathy I've decided is necessary for me to 'cover' when they get unalived. The other 99.9995% of my true sympathies are for his many victims.
Will there be changes to the Healthcare industry? Apart from taking their CEO pictures down from the web, hiring more security guards and putting up higher fences? No.
Because of this, I just decided to forgo the expensive PPO plan I've taken every year through my employer. This next year will be HDHP. Anthem just lost $1500 in premiums next year from me. Join in to hit them where it hurts.
I think all media outlets who opine on this subject, including Democracy Now, need to let the public know how much support they get from healthcare providers and pharmaceuticals (including advertising revenue)
American history 101: The Revolutionary War claimed many lives on both sides of the warring parties. Spanning over eight years between 1775 and 1783, nearly 9,000 Americans died in battle fighting for independence.

Most countries in the world are like this. I'm from Australia and we don't even pay for hospital visits.
Is $28/month premium every one can pay or do you have to be a permanent resident there?
Even in Cuba, state of the art healthcare is free to everyone, including those who are just visiting the country. Why is it not free in the most prosperous country in the world?
Because money is our true God.
@~ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that very same thing!
Healthcare cannot maximize profit when customers are healthy
It is free for the eligible.
I support Luigi Mangione. I am AGAINST the predatory healthcare industry.
They who condone murder have no right to condemn corporate greed. And no right to be taken seriously when they hypocritically do.
@@jeffmccoy1700 stop defending a mass murdere.. makes you look pathetic
I am avoiding main stream media as much as possible going forward. Support independent media you can trust. We need them now more than ever.
Just let the public decide what's important in the manifesto. People are getting sick of the gatekeepers and spin doctors of media. Get over yourselves.
the media are coconspirators to this heinous crime against americans
WE LOVE YOU democracy now
No one said you can't read the manifesto or make up your own mind. Do you not grasp that this guy published it so the public can do exactly that? And there is zero wrong with them discussing it. By doing so , they aren't telling you what to think.
My stomach hurts from hearing about the healthcare system and how terrible it is.
Luigi's butt is going to hurt
Thank you Democracy Now
Peacefully didn’t work obviously, the rattle that Luigi started, is unique
It's nice to see the far left, far right and everyone in between finally in agreement about something. I'm so proud of the American people RN🦅
And yet the majority voted for Trump who is the poster child for exactly the kind of CEO people are saying they hate and will only exacerbate all the issues that already plague America. I don't understand the cognitive dissonance
@@Luumus ~ Making money from a business is not terrible. But when it happens when you deny healthcare coverage that's quite a different thing.
It makes you think: trump CHEATED! Trump cheated to win both his presidency terms! & when Trump ran against Biden he cheated AGAIN but lost
First step in the working class understanding who is harming them in this class war.
@@dalbriggssWhat about when it happens because you don't pay your workers a living wage? You don't get to qualify which greedy pigs are okay and which aren't
Thank you Ken, it is evident you are going to bring reform to your industry 🙌
Face it, the man's a Hero. Got the insurance companies attention. People are pissed.
its sad to get to the point of losing a life for the company's to get attention
And the corporations executives will spend money on security rent a cops and body guards then screw over the public even harder to recover the costs they won’t change their basic behaviour psychopaths don’t just change their methodology
@@evelyncarbonell1
Patients are still dying as we speak due to denial.
Your doctor is face to face with you. Insurance companies are not face to face and not your doctor. They are the BANK! All they are supposed to do is pay up! They are NOT supposed to be judge, jury, and executioner. When, why, and how were they given this power?
It is corruption
Three cheers for Luigi 🎉🎉🎉 American Hero!
Just like Timothy James McVeigh.
🎉🎉🎉
we have to free Luigi by any means necessary
Luigi is a Hero of the American people!!!!
One of the few media outlets that still gets to the actual story.
Thank you, Ken, and Democracy now for your independent journalism. I grew up in a communist country and was told state owned media are the worst, but I can confirm that corporate media are rising to the top of the worst of the worst.
_Democracy Now!_ is corporate media. Can't you tell????
Wow, how very "kind " of united Healthcare to "negotiate " so you ONLY have to pay $2000! 😮 This is disgusting
I am not even kidding. It is cheaper to come to Brazil, get the best paid healthcare in São Paulo and go back to America depending on what you're doing. My family that lives in the U.S. does that. I am not talking about free healthcare, they came here to pay because the free healthcare system can take a lot of time.
@@vidal9747 I swear, even to Madagascar.
I've seen it on my end too. It's frustrating paying at the office and then turn around and pay more because my health insurance refuses to cover, or covers a minute amount.
The criminal companies like United Insurances should be sued with massive class actions.
All that will do is make a few torte lawyers wealthy. Consumers will each see a check for $25 and United will go back to ripping off consumers even more to make up for their losses. I agree with the sentiment, but it won't do what you would hope it would.
Supreme court made that illegal. What you have is mandatory arbitration clauses like that Luigi used.
@@Praisethesunson Really? Im going to read up on that. The whole system is rigged against the public then it seems.
Democracy Now! The standard bearer in accurate journalism for nearly 30 years. Thanks Amy and Juan and everyone else who makes this content!
Running with police narratives is not accurate journalism.
Glenn Greenwald is much better. _Democracy Now!_ has resorted to globalist propaganda and leftist disinformation.
So it turns out that this murder was the only way this would uncover what needed to be uncovered, yet we shouldn’t do it, just protest. Right.
Because they're in on it.
The billionaires own the government
Healthcare insurance companies should not be publicly traded on the stock. There is an inherent requirement to make maximum profits and increase stock price for shareholders.
Exactly. I worked for a stockholder owned Corporation and ever since it went public it was nothing but stress and changes. Took 10 years off of my life.
Or they could just not be allowed to become cartels. If there were many private insurers the ones that were shitty wouldn't have anyone sign up. With all the nuts rules UHC can be as shitty as they want to be.
Put us in debt, keep us in debt, that’s the plan. We have a name for that…

Right in their faces and done eloquently. You too Amy.
Congress is so corrupt it’s sickening!
Need to vote to vote them all out.
Voting won't help anything. If you could change anything by voting, they wouldn't allow voting.
Thats what we need: telling more people who have no business voting, to vote.
Only vote for candidates who will repeal citizens United!
@@Renee-xo8hk Worst decision EVER. But the Supreme Court has been bought and paid for a long time ago too.
So why don’t we… if Americans were smart, and they are not, they would vote every incumbent out of office first the next two decades

I voted for Kamala and Luigi is a pyschopath and should be locked away for life, don't group us all in with your warped thinking

But then where would I find out what celebrities are doing?

The other 99.9995% of my true sympathies are for his many victims.
this is eurocentric culture. its taboo to NOT take extreme pleasure in causing the suffering of vulnerable things
"media paternalism" is the perfect description.
Thank you KENNY!!!!! Love your investigative reporting!!!!
Will there be changes to the Healthcare industry? Apart from taking their CEO pictures down from the web, hiring more security guards and putting up higher fences?
No.
No

Nope.
Everybody should cancel UHC, I will.

Very cool to see ken here!!
Thank you Ken and Bernie Sanders
Ken is on fire 🔥 What a fantastic journalist!
The UHC’s CEO was a crook!
recently re-elected Sen. Rick Scott of Florida was once CEO of UHC
And HCA Healthcare. His actions with Medicare while he was HCA CEO is still being paid by sanctions, policies and $.

American history 101: The Revolutionary War claimed many lives on both sides of the warring parties. Spanning over eight years between 1775 and 1783, nearly 9,000 Americans died in battle fighting for independence.
But we became a nation in 1776.
They wouldn't let us see Timothy McVeighs explanation either, he must have made some sense ! They are already trying to hide Luigis explanation for his actions, but we know enough about it already .

We want actual health care!
He didn't do all this to sell books! WTF!
Bernie has been saying this to deaf ears for years. And then this country puts trump back in office. Nothing will ever change. Nothing
And we deserve everything we get.
Then Why didn't he do something about it rather than point his finger and run his mouth.
