When did shooting through the windshield with an AR-15 while pursuing a suspect at high speeds especially on a Highway or Interstate become the thing to do? I’m a big fan of returning fire when you’re being shot at. Also a big fan of pursuits. Gotta let the crooks know that the PD don’t play
What about the public people on roads and houses
But the question is whether it is accomplishing anything. Is it going to make him take cover? Can you even get that close to him? Is the potential benefit worth the risk of hitting someone else with your poorly aimed shots? They teach you in self defense to only fire to stop an immediate danger, to be sure of your target. Spitting shots out your windshield doesn't meet those requirements.
Post again after you have a member of family killed.
Love how the cop didn’t put his car in park & used his vehicle as a moving shield instead
I think soldiers use that tactic most of the time, especially special operations or forces
Damn, I always just imagined it was because they jump out rather than wasting time putting it in park. I never considered it as an intentional defense tactic. Super cool!

And he was accountable for every round too? Yes it was a little reckless. But dont think you know how shit works bc you were a cop in a shitty town

Pshot, I totally agree with you. He could have killed a innocent traveling family. There's absolutely no reason why this cowboy shit should be allowed. He can see better than the camera at distance so he can probably see that it looks like a 1911. I still don't know why it was important to put out over the radio. "Looks like a Glock, maybe a Gen 5, tough to see if it has finger grooves but maybe an improved trigger."
I heard it, so Im pretty sure the cop heard the perp singing "Im, too sexy for a Glock, too sexy for a Glock, so sexy it hurts!"
Love the determination of this cop!
...and the ghost ride tactic was friggin' BRILLIANT.
Oh, my God! Even if you get lucky and actually HIT the suspect vehicle, it’s NOT going to stop. It. And what about the other squad between you and the suspect?
How about a helmet mounted aiming system and turret mounted gun in a pod on the roof. A built it voice operated microphone to key the radio? Simple to make and calibrate.
@@Choober65 lol then make it and be rich. Hahaha "sImPlE"
That was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. This guy actually even though I’m sure a lot of people will probably disagree. He actually did pretty good. I thought on multiple occasions, he was gonna flip his squad car. He was a bit aggressive but I’m sure when somebody shooting at you and you’re trying to protect yourself and others. We’d do the same.
If I was the Mayor of that city I'd back up the Police man or women's desion to 🛑 them ugly bank robbers.
That could have gone wrong in so many different ways. Glad it ended well.
Said the passenger never
This wasn’t the way to go about it. It ended well by pure happenstance yet if it had ended any other way I bet we’d see this PD say it was a good shoot anyway. Forget the accuracy, just look at him swerving and firing at the car while BEHIND his fellow officer. It was dangerous enough following behind but this asshole saw the LVPD video last year and started to get hard at the idea that he might be the next awesome video clip. Guess what, you were on a video clip and it was not awesome. This is the kinda hero shit that cops decide to do without thinking.
YOU DEEPTHROAT THAT DANG BOOT AND SHUT IT !!!
Lucky he didn't get himself killed. As is, one of the suspects died.
This could've all been avoided if the police car had a positioned stand in the center console for the carbine, pointed straight through the windshield. Imagine how much easier it would've been for the officer to multi-task.
"Complete disregard for public safety" from the guy shooting one handed thru his own windshield at 120 mph. Things that make you go hmmm...
I was gonna say the exact same thing.
This dude was full cowboy mode like an cheap Hollywood action movie.
And then says his disregard line?
Wtf was he thinking.
I mean it worked though
It worked for Alec Baldwin
He's the type of cop who will brag about it on Discord, Reddit or to his friends or any chance he get. "Yo man! I pop 50 rounds through my windshield while hitting ONE TWENTY".
When he double checked the suspects charges after readying his weapon I knew this cop was just DYING for a reason to go rambo mode
I like how the officer chooses his backstop at 6:25 very safe for the public nice 👍
The irony of the cop saying the the suspect was firing while cars were passing, so that meant they no regard for public safety....and then he proceeds to do the same thing later in the video 🤨
and these guys are most worried about clearing the intersection......but NO concern for shooting an AR thru a hole in the windshield while over 100mph, across the median of an interstate, AND several cars in the background. That is unforgivable recklessness. I have ZERO issues with shootouts, when needed, pit'ing cars, etc.... but this guy is way too reckless for his own good, and the public's own good.
@@python3574 exactly literally zero regard if a innocent civilian becomes collateral damage. He is not concerned about public safety at all only his excitement to get to chase and shoot.
@@python3574 This was his one chance to show off.
He has lived and dreamed of this incident his whole career. He has imagined this over and over in his head. He has even practiced it in his patrol car. I bet he even watches COPS on his off time. I have been a cop for 31 years and saw his kind numerous times. But the screaming of SHOTS FIRED SHOTS FIRED by any cop over the radio is uncalled for . Keep your damn cool and your head in the game. That damn theatrical screaming is not needed. And before you ask absolutely i have in these situations as the officer and the responding officer, stop screaming in the radio It will not get your backup there any faster.
True, but it may change the way they respond when they immediately arrive on scene. The screaming bit is BS, but if the suspect hadn't fired when you called for backup, the fact that they are now may change the tactical reaponse. Not here, but in general.
Especially if it went from responding to a domestic to a hostage situation with shots being fired.
Well said. The screaming on the radio steps over all other tadio traffic and makes everything confusing for other patrols to understand and access as they are racing to the scene. An occasional SALUTE report in a clear voice is all that is needed.
I agree the shots fired thing is ridiculous, however the screaming part was probably not something he could help. If you are acquainted with shooting a rifle in a tight area especially in AR-15 depending on the type of muzzle brake you have it can be absolutely deafening after the first couple shots. I do want to say I think it's ridiculous that he took this many shots very very stupid scenario to put yourself in. Wait for backup, wait for help, wait for a decent shot, you're not doing anything and this is why Barney Fife only had one bullet
I was troubled about him firing shots across when the other dude had numerous vehicles right in his line of fire. That is as bad as anything the criminals did.
The reason for his kind is because society's lack of respect, and responsibility.
A few cops still think they're in Afghanistan, or Iraq and feel they can act the same way.
Holy Crap!! This cop had such amazing control of that rifle, wheel, radio, and emotions!!! I couldn't have done that no way!
Respect on how he used that patrol unit as a rolling shield. Next level thinking in a hostile situation.
I have to say, this is one tough cop. I dont know the rules on cops in this situation but I think he done a great job in his handling of this situation. He seemed to always be in control of the situation.
Cop: "too close for missiles, switching to guns."
The multi-tasking of the pursuing officer is impressive....driving, talking to dispatch, sharp shooting, while enjoying gunpowder fumes. This guy deserves the distinguished Medal of Efficiency.

@@calebb231 hes not saying it doesn't happen it just isn't typically what the cop wants to do which this cop definitely wanted to do that
It’s ok. They will buy him a new windshield...
I have seen lots it’s useful in specific circumstances, i believe that in this case the officer was right but not. You don’t want the guy to pull into a gas station take hostages or something crazy which he is. But really this is 50/50 and i’m not that officer, i wasn’t shot at so i don’t know. Looks like the officer did what he thought was best🤦♂️🤷♂️, that’s my opinion.
I feel like if you can aim your long gun, take shots and reload while on a high speed pursuit while also using your radio you have ascended beyond the bounds of normal procedure.
That guy is super talented
But he will give you a ticket for talking on your phone.
That's the problem. You would have to be super human to shoot and drive at high speed. No one is that talented. That is stuff for the movies! Even if you were able to shoot, those bullets can go beyond visual range and hit who knows what, or who. Shooting through the window may be workable for a 2nd officer in the passenger seat. But that also presents a wild shot going off into someone beyond visual range. There are other solutions to tracking this guy without endangering the public.

@@LJ-jq8og no. Like seriously. No.
@@prunabluepepper Nope. I respectfully "agree to disagree."
@@LJ-jq8og now I'm curious, please tell me: why do you think he did a good job? My thinking is:
We've both seen that he shoots in the direction of oncoming traffic, he multitasks badly, of the 50 rounds only a few hit, he was justifying his actions by plappering legalese into the mic, was too emotional etc. Ask those factors let me think that he did a bad job. For me these weigh higher than the final "success". You weigh the final success higher, but why? I'm genuinely curious.
You could see the officers rounds skip off the pavement. Shooting mad low the entire time. No telling on who that officer almost shot.
Maybe he was aiming for tires?
Anyway, I prefer this than having these guys getting away with their crimes...
Shooting through the windshield will scrub off some energy from the rounds. I'm not surprised he was hitting low.
@@Reth_Hard they would not be getting away, this officers actions are incompetent.
Not possible to shoot straight through a windshield without holing it real good first. Hmm I guess he did. Just in such a way he couldn't sight in at all.
@@HRCSJSUAMMAS Not possible at all; you need yo account for the deflection of the bullet based on the angle of attack
1)
The “near collision” at the beginning:
I believe the officer had the situation well in hand. Remember, the officer’s peripheral view vastly exceeds that of the dashcam.
2)
Early on yes, the officer exercised good control, restraint and judgment. He was fairly calm, given the situation, and fully cognizant of the important factors, such as “backstop”, etc.
3)
Towards the end, his emotional state was way less controlled. You could hear it in his voice. He was extremely “amped”, though I must admit, it’s “kind of” understandable.
4)
Once amped:
He was absolutely firing while there were multiple innocent civilians in the background of his target. Multiple vehicles, traveling in the opposite direction, directly beyond the “bad guy” as he was firing. I would not be surprised at all if at least one of those vehicles came away with a bullet hole.
5)
Ghost riding the cruiser:
This is 100% location dependent. Where this was all going down, the target vehicle was the only thing present in an otherwise empty field, and with the downward slope away from the road, there was no threat that the cruiser would roll out into traffic.
Ideally, the cruiser would have rolled forward until it bumped, and came to rest against the target vehicle.
Had this happened within the city limits, I doubt he would have deployed this tactic.
All in all:
I don’t think I personally would have attempted some of this, particularly firing the carbine through the windshield. That said, it was all conducted almost flawlessly (with the exception of the backstop issues mentioned above).
Clearly, at least some of the officers involved have had extensive tactical training (mostly likely from a military background).
Highly risky stuff… but, ultimately effective.
Fun facts: the officer also had a cheese & mushroom omelette cooking in the back seat and ordered a new pair of bathing trunks on Amazon while this was all going on.
"With a 1911 it looked like" Best vision on the force right there lol
Dispatcher: "thanks for the important information, I'll let the helicopter pilot know"
What is with the verbal discharge of extraneous information? Just say it's a handgun if you're sure it's a handgun.
@@Treblaine adrenaline is a powerful thing
@@Natedemate i know it sounds like a platitude at this point but police really do need better training. Part of that is being conditioned to speak in a composed way when stressed, you can generate a stress response in training without genuine mortal fear which will get you 90% there.
I know, training cops is expensive but the cost of not training them well... Cost even more.
@@Treblaine In a gun fight, knowing what gun they have is actually rather huge, I would say especially with hand guns. One reason is the amount of rounds they can shoot before having to reload. While this would be very rare to ever come down to a situation where this information pays off, ever bit of relevant information in a life and death situation is good information.
Round size, penetration and range are some other factors you can quickly know when you know their weapon. All of this can change a life/death situation.
@@SirCanuckelhead What? Nobody is counting shots in a gunfight and you can't actually know the capacity, some 1911 pistols have 7 round mag, others have an 18 round mag.
No, every bit of information is not good, extraneous information is going to slow down your decision making.
Saying it's a 1911 doesn't tell you the caliber. It might be .45, it might be 9mm, it might be .22LR
And even if .22 you're not really going to make any different decision, either of them you're going to work just as hard to not be hit by. yes, in theory a bigger bullet can make a difference but it's not any difference you can control, it's not like you know the exact point the bullet will hit so you'll move your body 0.1 inch to the left so the .45 bullet doesn't nick your aorta.
The only really relevant difference is whether it's a rifle or a handgun or a shotgun. A handgun and a shotgun have far less range than a rifle, you can significantly out-range them using a rifle. A shotgun is far more effective within its effective range.
The officer using his vehicle as moving cover (either intentionally or not) was cool to see

I ran convoy operations in Iraq for a few months using land cruisers. Our SOP was to go 80+ mph and if/when engaged our drivers DID NOT fire their weapon. Your job is to drive, the other passengers will shoot. I get it that this officer did not have a partner but the point still stands, you need to just drive.

That is so wimpy to say. To say that while you are been shot at. You should not fire back, because you job is "To Drive". Stupiiiiddd
Well the driver of a 7 ton or LVSR in the Marines as a 3531 in Iraq will 100% shoot if necessary or can.
