Matts explanation of school vs farm welders is spot on!! As someone who grew up on a farm with no money and no fancy tools, I utalize the many skills of frustration developed throughout childhood regularly. Git'er Done.
You got my vote on that. My wife would like that too. That is almost exactly how the license plate on her 2002 BMW (bought new) reads. DEJA BLU because we are limited to 7 characters.
Gotta go with Déjà Blue! The fact that ya'll are basically building the Banana all over again, and Robby gets to paint it again, but this time blue; it just fits. Plus, Dory the Explory is cool, but it would be better if you guys were building him a Ford Explorer and gave it some combo of pink and purple with the blue and yellow (like blue and yellow exterior with a pink and purple interior).
Deja Blue was spot on. Welder description was spot on. Our maintenance crew at the sawmill I was at from 1994 to 2020 went through so many guys. The rare certified welder that would actually start to work for our wage that was beneath them didn't last long. Once they figured out you couldn't bring the entire plant in the shop to the bench they quit. Welding parts that broke in below zero temperatures at break time was even less appealing. We had a couple guys that might have been certified but never talked about it. Lincoln made a great aluminum rod for stick welding and it was great on "clean aluminum".
Thanks to all of you at Matt's Off Road Recovery. Your humor and comradery are helping me get through some tough times. As for the name, both. Why? To Dory, everything is new, though she has lived it before, thus the "Deja Vu." She always has a great attitude and is never afraid to go "exploring" her world and help those in need. Cheers.
Dejan blue. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you and your families. Thank you for keeping us entertained. I love the body style of the 66' covair.

MERRY CHRISTMAS. It is a pleasure to watch as two friends exchange their knowledge and abilities to build, fabricate, and paint recovery vehicles for each other. And give us the joy of watching how hard you work in the process.
Whoa… I learn new things everytime I visit this workshop. Some good, some questionable, but the explanation of the term “Dashboard”, kind of blew my mind. I have never wondered where that term came from, and did not know I desperately needed to know this! It’s 8.15am Christmas Day here in Midway Point, Tasmania, Australia, and I have heaps of people for lunch. There is no way out for them. I am going to educate every living soul about this fact (whether they like it or not). Thanks for an amazing Christmas present, MORR team. Love it!

I just have to say that, that was the most inclusive, welcome and unexpected holiday greeting, in my long life. Thank you everyone that we both know and love and thank you for those that we don't get to see, but also are part of this community.
Matt - Cut a square hole for a window in a 1/4" thick plate steel door and weld in a 1/4" thick wire reinforced glass window sealing it water tight without having to go back with sealant while leaving the glass clear. Farmer who taught me to weld could do it using a gas torch but sadly he passed before he could show me how he pulled it off. He did a lot of things the "School Book" welders with high certifications would tell you they learned in school were totally impossible. I say that sometimes your held back when they teach you things are impossible when it might be better stated that we haven't figured that one out yet. Many things that Farmers figured out unfortunately haven't been documented and included in the textbooks. Best!
This is a seriously awesome episode, even by MORR standards. Seeing a team like that working together on a cool project like this is really inspiring. Matt's enthusiam in this episode is contageous too! Love the rebore side project in between too.
@@inmyopinion6836 I think a lot of us will know who Dory is... Its an old movie. I am 26 years old, into offroading and have definitely seen Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.

Another great video from the crew at MORR. My vote is for Deja Blue. As others have pointed out, if it was an Explorer not a Cherokee than Dorra would have worked. To Matt and his family, the MORR crew and to all who watch and comment on these videos I wish you a Verry Merry Christmas.
If it was an Explorer instead of a Jeep, I'd vote for Dory but since it's a Jeep, it's blue, and it's a clone(sorta) of the Banana, Deja Blue is my vote.
MORR, I know you get people nannying you about safety but today a couple of times there you were not far from a serious incident that happens in workshops every day. The dangling draw strings on your hoodies were dangerously close to the unshielded blade of your angle grinders. If they get entangled it will pull the grinder blade into your throat or face. You need to seriously ask yourself if those hoodies are appropriate for workshop use with long draw cords like that as you have various power tools that they could easily get entangled with.
Because I haven’t specifically called him out yet - Jake’s teamwork and perpetual optimism and good attitude is an excellent model for men and masculinity. We can’t all be the Matt, in every aspect of our lives, the leaders, and Jake is exactly the kind of follower I try and strive to be when it’s my turn to follow, at work, with my partner, wherever. Jake sets a quality standard and it’s excellent to see in him a broader range of the expression of masculinity that we’re not regularly shown in traditional media. Because that guy’s tougher than I’ll ever be, but handles himself with grace and positivity.
Agreed. Some teams gel, grow, and reproduce (because followers become leaders), and others sputter, fail, and implode. We're always seeing growth in the MORR family because of quality people who keep people before product. And wouldn't you know it?.. That makes for quality product. 👍
Yeah Buddy, Jake is a great addition to the MOOR Crew. Start out as a grunt and gopher and pick up a world of Skills just by being part of a great and Skillful team of people. Go Jake ..
@AlWorth9738if I had to have one rod, it would probably be 7018. I've stick weld everything due to not having a shop. I've had actual certified welders tell me you can't stick weld aluminum, or if you stick weld stainless it will fail. With enough pre and post heat, you can stick weld damn well anything.
Matt, back in 1960, until '67, my dad was a Corvair specialist for a Cen Cal Chevy dealer. In 1960, he was crew chief for a sports car racer named Chuck Cornett. He built a Corvair engine that they ran in a Cooper chassis in Class D sports, and dominated for several years until the Cooper chassis was banned. I don't recall many specifics, but I remember they kept burning valves on the "long end" of the heads, and dad used plastic aluminum to fab extra carb bbsses, making 4 carb heads before the factory did. He used 409 rod bolts, and it would rev to 9500 RPM. Later, they used a Crown kit to put a 327 mid engine in a " 65 Corvair and ran class A sports. He had a Greenbriar van that would pull the Grapevine at 90+ mph.
I love seeing another XJ build. I'm a little biased, because I have a 97 Xj and the first time I came across Matt's channel was in the very first few videos of him doing recoveries in the "banana" as I was searching for Jeep Xj Videos. I was instantly hooked and been a fan ever since. And to think my 11 year old son and I sent him and Tom two custom signs and they actually hung them in the shop. One on the door "Caution Matt it's Hot!!!" And "Tom Tom's AMAZING Miss Sally.....Matt secretly loves it" above Tom's drill press and milkshake machine...😂
It is really great to see how much more fun Matt and everyone else is having on the channel now vs when he first started. So hope each of you have a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for the countless hours of videos.
To the Matt and Jaymie Wetzel Family, Tom-Tom and family, Jefe, Jake, Ed and everyone on the Matts Off-Road Recovery team swinging the camera, behind the scenes and in the office -- Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. God bless you. Thank you for another year of bringing joy, entertainment, a little bit of know-how in the garage and out on the trail and being both and inspiration and lifeline for people in the off-road community. Especially the stuck ones. If someone makes a call, you'll get them out!
Color: Yellow vs Deja Bleu Fruit: Banana vs "Blue Java" Banana - greenish blue hue, vanilla fragrance, best color when unripened as ripened ones will turn yellow. Extension of the banana family. Other Blue fruit names: Sloe Plums, Blue Marble tree fruit, Damson plums, Brazilian Jenipapos ("Robipapa"), Kastoree - blue mangoes [bluangos]. Great to see Kaulin welding, fabricating and comfortably working is a discombobulated manner.
Still love your recoveries. Shop stuff is pretty good too. I hope you all have a great new year. I liked Blueberry too, staying with the fruit theme. Except the wrecker, kinda reminds me of a giant dinasour egg.
Love your engine building Matt. I’ve rebuilt plenty of engines with a lot more run time on them than those Corvair engines and haven’t measured the cylinder bore at all. They all run great. What you have done is more than adequate for the job at hand.
Dejua Blue got my vote. I do like the single word names as the person put bellow " the blueper " Same o mage " the Banana. Same as the other person put below " if you know, you know and is cool " especially after the battery to the dome stunt.

I really appreciate the Corvair info because my Grandpa, before moving to Florida, had a 63 brown hardtop and a 67 convertible in baby blue. So I love hearing it and then reminiscing about the good old days of cleaning carbs of the 67 so my grandpa would be willing to take me out in it. Thanks for everything you guys do!
Deja-Blue gets my vote. If it was a Ford explorer then Dori the Explori would be best. If it belonged to Matt, Blueberry would work. Wishing th MORR team a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
@@anotherdave5107 Originally, the word dashboard applied to a barrier of wood or leather fixed at the front of a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh to protect the driver from mud or other debris "dashed up" (thrown up) by the horses' hooves.[
@@NickoBaggins- I'm from the school of dash being an adverb associated with movement such as flung. @ryanmcclelland4157 I appreciate the kind words my brother. Merry Christmas! Hope you have a wonderful day packed full delicious food and great family company!
Bright yellow rubber mud flaps would give it the Dory look 😊
I really appreciate the Corvair info because my Grandpa, before moving to Florida, had a 63 brown hardtop and a 67 convertible in baby blue. So I love hearing it and then reminiscing about the good old days of cleaning carbs of the 67 so my grandpa would be willing to take me out in it. Thanks for everything you guys do!
Merry Christmas to the great and wonderfully entertaining MORR Team. And Matt, keep those Corvair Jewels Rolling.
I just love Matt's sense of humor, and the relationship with Tom. Marry Xmass to all the crew and your families
Конечно же Дори!!!! Робби нарисует рыбку на задней двери! Будет круто!
Merry Christmas MORR team & families! I vote for “déjà blue” brilliant Tom! 👍🏻
Hearing Robby's kids call it "Dory thee Explory" is just too good to pass up
Love the teamwork. I vote for Deja Blue. Happy New Year, Matt, and the team. Love watching your videos.
Deja-Blue gets my vote. If it was a Ford explorer then Dori the Explori would be best. If it belonged to Matt, Blueberry would work. Wishing th MORR team a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
I love worthless information. That "dash" lesson was awesome!
... and quite fictional ...
@@anotherdave5107 how so? A quick search seems to confirm Matt is correct about the origin of the word.
@@anotherdave5107
Originally, the word dashboard applied to a barrier of wood or leather fixed at the front of a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh to protect the driver from mud or other debris "dashed up" (thrown up) by the horses' hooves.[
@@NickoBaggins- I'm from the school of dash being an adverb associated with movement such as flung.
So perhaps a dashboard could have originally been a barrier to deflect things being flung but was then superceded and incorporated into the windshield. Our boat was dashed upon the breakwater by waves during a storm.
My vote is Deja blue! Merry Christmas, MORR team.
Love it. Tom never hesitated when he was Crowded "Jump King".😆 Matt not having money and doing it with what you have is what I call "Poor Boying" it. Leave us to our own devices and we'll get it done.
Wow this is tough! As much as I enjoy the incredibly appealing situation of a name that will make Robby annoyed every time he has to use it, I still can't get away from how incredibly awesome and fitting DejaBlue is!!
Thanks for adding more Corvair content. Love it!
Déjà Blue hands down. And make sure to put really high end parts and accessories on it to really show him how upset you are!
Dori the Explori just rolls best off of the tongue! I just hope it ends up with a decal or something somewhere that says "Just keep off-roading"
Kinda feel like it needs a Ford 4.6L V8 if you're gonna call it "the Explori".
@@GimpyChinaman nah I'm sure Robbie would rather it didn't need daily repairs ;)
@@GrainneCarney whoa whoa whoa the ford mod 4.6 2v might be underpowered, heavy, and complicated, but it’s a reliable engine! Crown Vic taxis and cop cars are a testament to that 😂
It's just so cool that Matt builds all this V8-powered macho stuff, but loves old Corvairs!!
So Robby paints the Bombi for Matt and Matt builds the Blueper (my preferred name, lol) for Robby? 😁
Bluper, that's not bad...
I vote for Blueper.. lol
Blueper is the way.
Blueper for the win!
Robby will love this Banana clone and Matt will love getting the Bombi back. Good video and Merry Christmas!
I think its awesome how you guys help eachother out with things like this. Robbie will be suer to love his Jeep. I thought a good name would have been the Banana Split. Basically because its a split from the Banana. But its all good.
That is a great way to measure the bore! May not be the most accurate but if it is good enough, than it is good enough.
It should be called the Bluenana
Deja, while great... It is too good & won't bug Robby.
Matt, you said it had to bug him a bit, right?
Stay the course with "Dory," please. She will be a great rig that will have Robby cringing just a bit. Another reason, his daughter will LOVE it 😀
Deja-blue for sure of the two alternatives, OR Blueper like others suggested :)
Deja blue is genius!
"Blue Java"
Blue bananas, also known as blue Java bananas or ice cream bananas, are a unique variety of banana that have a distinct blue-green color when unripe and turn pale yellow when ripe.
Video Editor, I really like the style working/grinding with music, specially when the sparks fly 👍🏻
it's just so good to see the builds epsiodes, just love the crafts and handson mentality. Happy hollidays, greetings from the Netherlands. Oh and my vote is on deja blue. And please share some videos on the corvairs
May I offer: Black and Blu-iser. But my vote is for Deja Blue! It perfectly honors the Banana and Robby simultaneously.
Gotta Love Deja Blue. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the whole crew.
Deja-blue is perfect. Also because it’s a clone of The Banana. A already lived experience.
Happy X-Mas from The Netherlands.
DORY THE EXPLORI is the perfect name. And though it fits Robbies life and personality it could still be a good name as it sounds soft. A guy wants his truck to sound tough. Perfect name.
And Rudy, you were correct to respect your father enough to encourage him to do it right. Matt, if ya don't like that comment oh well. Love your channel but in this case Rudy was right.
Merry Christmas to you and the family. Deja-Blue is a good name.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the MORR family!!! I think Deja Blue is the best name for it. Colin is doing great, Katelynn is learning.
The Blue Meanie a heavy tripper!
Awesome job guys and gal
Best video for a long time way more done than a 30 min video on going for a ride in a clapped out junker thanks for sharing.
The A-Team is back at it building a copy of the Banana. While Matt is rebuilding an engine for his Corvair! But they are all cutting and welding on Dory! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of the members of Matts Off Road Recovery families!
I hope everyone of the MORR crew had a great Christmas. I have to go with Deja Blue 🔵 for the name because it's going to be a copy of the Banana 🍌. I just learned something new that I didn't know about why it's called a dashboard, thanks Matt. I'm looking forward to another new year of awesome videos with great builds and recoveries. I can't wait to see what you do with the school bus.
Deja Blue. I love all that you guys do for your friends, customers, and everyone who comes into contact with you! Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas MORR crew! 2023 was a great year for content on this channel! Looking forward to more in 2024! (Deja Blue FTW!)
As a fellow person without alot of money... How dare you use that drill press and a proper hone on those cylinders!
Dewalt power drill and a ball hone is the proper poor way to get that done :D
Great video guys!
All the XJs built by MORR have fruit themed names. The Banana, the Tangerine. This should be the Blueberry
agree 100% and it will annoy Robbie to have to call it Blueberry, but it fits.
Yes!!
Deja blueberry
yea i feel like not naming it The Blueberry is a major swing and a miss
That is the name of the car in tv show Suits… and a car donated to a deserving mom in eastern Idaho by a Secret Santa…
