I love the simplicity and how well the finished structure integrates with the landscape's natural beauty. Frank Lloyd Wright tried to implement that same concept with his architectural designs. The one aspect that gives me pause is ventilation. Is any additional ventilation needed to manage the humidity produced by human breathing and moisture from dirt under the floor? I also don't know if a wood stove presents any possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning since the cabin is so well covered with plastic tarp material.

Hah exactly what I was thinking. This reminded me of the guy who filmed the entire process of building his secret underground bunker in the woods so he could murder his wife and daughter and live in it for his remaining days (which were very few because he got caught very quickly and took himself out as cops were surrounding him).
The only things I would add, would be instead of using tarps on your roof. You would use a rubber membrane. They're generally used for ponds, but work great for covering underground shelters. I'd also make sure that the floor is 3 to 6 in off the ground. With a backfill of gravel. And put in a sump pump with a battery backup. Running to either a solar panel or a windmill generator. Just my thoughts. Other than my critiques, I think you guys did an awesome job!
THE BEST cabin construction video I've seen! Wow, congrats. Just amazing. So cozy, so cool, so effectively shot and edited. Again, an amazing accomplishment, distilling 1.5 years of work into a short video. WOW!
It looked like he was still in sandy loam when he put in the floor... I'd reckon that if it rained faster than it could drain, it'd prolly float and drown all of the rats. Win win.
I was wondering the exact same thing. Where in the world does all the water go when it pours & those catch all steps leading downward are inundated with rainfall? I didn't see any French drain or rock installed leading away or dispersing the water to a lower or wider area. I've watched a few of these dugouts constructed but haven't seen any perform during a heavy rainfall & that's the ultimate test.
Using just tarp will not keep ground water out over time, it'll eventually leak. You gotta coat it, plus there is no ground barrier under the floor boards, it's bound to flood. And those sky lights AKA heat zappers in the winter.
I cant wait to see the effect of the first snow thaw, lol...that shitz gets in every crack. Snow fall will ice in the stairs and front door making leaving impossible.
There’s something you need to understand, his hole is in sand. Water will not move straight down and keep on going, it will not flood. If it was in soil then I would agree but sand, no chance because it is so free draining. Dry digging a dam next time you see sand and pour water into it……
@@teeanahera8949 There is something you dont understand. I have both an Engineering and Architectural degree. The threat of water is from the thawing snow. It comes in larger volume than you think. At that time, the ground will still be frozen. And the water will flood. You live and learn from experience. Go get some and you will understand the principal of basement flooding in all soils and all climates. Now a little more insight into just how st00pid your response was. You assume sand will drain. Then you explain why gravel is the norm for slab drainage, particularly in soil conditions he has built in. Because the "sand" there is not the same as washed sand on the beach. Over the millennium, the forest undergrowth and fallen leaves have deteriorated and mixed with the sand as fine particle, this causes a much slower drainage rate than normal. This is evident in his ability to cut holes in the ground without the sides slipping in. So my comment stands as is. And I suggest that after fooling yourself to believe the BS you just gave me, you should stay away from any construction works.
Building trnches is in Russian nature. Nice project. I would like more sun but living underground offers warmth and safety. Would like to stay few nights there.
Pretty neat cabin. I hope he’s above the water table. Also I’m a little claustrophobic and would worry about heavy snow build up on the door. I suppose it would have to be quite a lot to be a problem though.
Very nice design. My only suggestion would be to loft the bed higher. I live on a bus and learned that by building your bed at waist level so you have to hop in or use a single stair, you can use less heat at night. Heat rises. I built with just enough room to comfortably sit up in bed with a foot head clearance. It also gives you a ton of storage space underneath. In climates that are more cold in winter this means less heating at night because your body is in the middle space of the room. In summer it’s no problem because you can vent the heat out with windows and fans. This design feature doubled my storage space. I also had a twin bed but noticed that I didn’t need a foot of that width space to be comfortable. So I placed a set of boxed wire snap together shelves that have ten cubes along the entire wall running the length of the bed on top of my futon mattress. This is two layers of 12” cube shelves and the use of the top as a shelf. It’s perfect to hold everything! Insert cardboard squares at the bottom’s and nothing falls through the screen material. Best $35 spent for my cubes. Using the fabric folding cubes for under bed storage along with tarp material bags keeps everything under the bed tidy and accessible. Storage is essential in small spaces. Also adding a shelf over the foot of your bed is awesome too. Leave space for your feet, but above your feet you can install shelves all the way up. Otherwise that is wasted space for what? Feet. 😂 ✌🏻
@ Ebay has wire rack cube shelving. That might work. Unless you have mice that can chew through metal. 😂 Looking at the muscles on some Russian men I don’t doubt that you have stout mice too. 😁✌🏻
It seems to me being asleep inside during a heavy snowfall might make it extremely difficult to open the hinged door that would need to open upward with all the snow load on top of it.
Sorry, a co2 buildup would not cause a fatal accident. In fact, its an increase of the amount of co2 in your bloodstream that helps regulate your respiration. Any increase in blood co2 will cause an increase in your breathing. A further increase will make you feel as if your suffocating, and you would flee for the great outdoors at that point.
@@Bugdriver49 My point had nothing to do with CO² buildup inside the shelter. The point was that a heavy snowload on the door would make it impossible to open from the inside.
let's do some math. This isn't a perfect model but will give us an idea. Let's assume his door is 3 feet by 6 feet, or 18 square feet of surface area. Fresh snow is about 5 pounds per cubic foot. So if there is one foot of fresh snow on his door there is 18 cubic feet of snow covering the door. 18 x 5 = 90 pounds of weight. So if there is 2 feet of snow coving his door that would be about 180 pounds of weight. I don't know how much weight you can squat but assuming you can squat 180 pounds you'd be able to push the door up. (it's actually less because of the hinge leveraging some of the weight) 3 feet of snow would be 270 pounds, which is a lot. I think you'd definitely have a problem with 3 feet of snow, I don't know where he is but 3 feet in one night is a lot of snow! In that case you'd have to wait for some of it to melt. Over all I think it's a pretty safe bet to say it's not going to be a major problem.
Very resourceful and some good problem solving was involved. Glad he removed the plastic from near the stove. Would make the bed base lift up in 2 sections rather than bother with fiddly small doors. A cupola instead of skylights also makes more sense as last thing you want is a critter falling in. You can then also set up a perch and watch from comfort inside. A proper living roof membrane makes more sense than tarps as plant tap roots will easily make holes in his roof and will contribute the need for earlier repairs.

Nice underground quarters. As to the moss like top surface of the structure: will the moss be able to survive when placed on top of a layer of elevated, drained sand? According to the biodude, for moss to survive it depends on "80-90%+ relative humidity and consistently wet substrate"
Если мох высохнет, то ничего страшного. Сверху нападают ещё листья с деревьев. В итоге всё будет выглядеть натурально. Со временем маскировка только улучшится.
@@ЕвгенийЛобах Google translate: "If the moss dries out, it's okay. More leaves from the trees are falling from above. In the end, everything will look natural. Over time, the camouflage will only improve."
To hide the pipes, use old logs. Cut the logs to length and the diameter of the pipes a little bigger and then set the logs on top of the pipes sticking up. That's what I did, but had to make the pipes taller due to the amount of snow I got last year.
This man's efforts are extraordinary, but I don't think too many people want to live like a gopher. I would have put all that work into building an awesome treehouse.
@@АлександрЗинович-п2ы The tree houses they’re building these days are insulated and even have fireplaces. A hole in the ground is likely to get flooded in a real bad storm.

Прекрасно... но не раскрыта тайна появления электричества ) И ещё такой момент - для более скрытности необходимо было создать систему бездымного отвода. А трубу звмаскировать под фальшкамень
When you get a lot of bad weather, you'll see the importance of having drainage. Growing plants near trees is never a good idea but, hey, you're in the woods...not much choice. I would install a couple vents to circulate the air down and up.
He has no need for drainage, he has a lot of trees around. You know each tree sucks up 150 Liters of water per day... you don't really have to worry. That is not geting filled with water anytime soon.
there was ventilation installed.... not enough in my opinion, judging by the huge stove he installed inflow = outflow. he needs a 30 square inches of vent pipe in total for when that stove is roaring, or he'll suffocate
'It's a secret build' LMAO. Good question but I would take a 90:1 bet that it was on private property with either ownership or full permission. Nothing 'secret' about this project !

@@mogdor 😂🤣
WOW!
That's great until it rains and turns your cabin into a swimming pool.
It’s Russia. It snows
Of course not. There are layers of plastic around the logs. See the video again
It looked like he was still in sandy loam when he put in the floor... I'd reckon that if it rained faster than it could drain, it'd prolly float and drown all of the rats. Win win.
Jealous
I bet the only thing you can build a Twinkie pile into your mouth. Shut up.
I am dying to know what happens during a major rain, despite this being in sand. No drainage at base? Could not tell if this bunker was on a hill.
Yeah, toss in tarps and duct tape as critical elements for weatherproofing.....
@karlwithak.as per my previous comment, the axe you’re grinding, is a fallacious one. You haven’t a clue.
Good job guys, fun to watch till the end,and see what your creation looks like, and it looks amazing.
@@teeanahera8949 Depending on what's below the sand, liquefaction can occur.

Feet. 😂 ✌🏻
Про рівень лежанки чудова ідея! А от при "кубіки"- ні! Про мишей забули!

@@Bugdriver49If you don't sleep through the whole warning sequence.
@@Bugdriver49 My point had nothing to do with CO² buildup inside the shelter. The point was that a heavy snowload on the door would make it impossible to open from the inside.
If you can't lift the door up and open with tons of snow on it, you'd be buried alive. It would become your tomb.
let's do some math.

I’m very impressed !! I would love to hang around with this dude and learn all his traits .😎🇺🇸
