The highest pressure water is at the very bottom of the dam. So the turbine should be below the dam. The turbine outlet should be vertical and upward into a pool to reduce the turbulence of the outlet stream and save the down river bed from erosion. Just saying...

Without a deflection or dispersal structure that falling water impact will eat the foundation of the Dam. During storms, such activity multiplies to the point of disaster sometimes. Storms are always the test.

Everything fails in the end. If the villagers don't drown, their descendants will. It is best to not live below water level no matter how safe it seems.

Also like the upcycled automotive alternator usage. Done the same thing before too! Motor windings are windings, they dont care what you use ithem on. Nice job, wish i could have helped on one, this is close enough though. I knew how to do all this , but you showed us the basic hand way with minimal tools, As I said before EXCELLENT work on a budget! TLDR = Hand formed bricks, rebar, hyper attention to detail. Now thats dedicated!

Во первых выхлоп от этих ручьев - никакой, в лучшем случае до 100в, пару лампочек, но там жэж еще нужна серьезная обвязка - провода до объекта, аккумуляторы и т.п., вообще не окупаемо.. Ну и в песок дамбу - размоет.. Посмотрел ролик как строили дамбу Гувера, там несколько метров скальных пород сбивали потому-что они недостаточно жесткие )) А тут - песок по краям.. )
Francis turbines are intended to be used in high-head applications. Two feet doesn't qualify. And if you had mounted this a couple of feet lower, you could have doubled your power.

the cement plastering was nice but laying the bricks into mud that dry usually wont adhere that well leading to less overall total strength you really want to wiggle it into a fresh moist layer of mud brick by brick to really make it adhere to the mortar, i mean he is doing a nice job keeping it straight but a level line and more workable mud will really make it stronger
This is insanely satisfying, while also being very triggering. Im no civil engineer, but my basic secondary education maths and physics was telling me that this is a collapse waiting to happen. Its not dug into the embankment enough, its not dug into the floor enough, the concrete is of an incorrect ratio, and theres no backstop. Its only a matter of time before it fails sadly... But it was very satisfying watching you building it. Almost ASMR-esque. ❤
these are built for seven year durability. abuttment are self seating into the impermeable clay regolith due to compression of the arch. the floor can be sealed with clay ad hoc. the mix ratio will allow for self healing of cracks in the mortar as the arch deforms while seating itself into the abutment.
I assume half of the Asian creeks are now equipped with such dams illuminating at least their crown and any fish is unable to swim upwards ... but very cool

18:25 as far as I know, a counter pressure at the outlet of water will increase the output of the turbine. Just make it like the water lock in a toilet. Prevents cavitation, and keep a steady pressure/under pressure in the francis turbine. Will keep the turbine-pipe part full of water, which is an advantage.
I wish the folks who struggle to say something positive would post videos of doing something as skilled and fulfilling as this instead of wasting their spare time playing video games and buying digital items instead of a few bags of sackrete and a few hand tools. Keep the videos coming.

@@pudmina there's no reinforcement that carries from section to section for one thing, so the joints will eventually fail. But the main reason is the placement. It isn't anchored on the bottom, and the soil around the walls will wear away (undermine) over time.
When laying your mortar put a wavy line down the middle! it will make it easier to lay your bricks level, and give a stronger joint. it could do with slightly being a little bit more wet as well.

I do note, that you appear to be building on top of a concrete base, so that is at least one positive. The other being your concrete screeding with a what appears to be a good 2 to 1 mix. However, no cut, foundation or strengthening in the banks, where the Abutment of the Dam is, to the point it is almost comical. A lot of hard work seems wasted, without strengthening of the Abutment area. Especially as you will get rain runoff, almost certainly eroding the banks. Before you cleared the foliage, that was what was holding it together. The water is also much higher behind the dam now, so it can force its way round the abutment during heavy rain. Finally, if people are tempted to walk across the top, there is not enough structural strength even with the rebar. My advice: Strengthen the Abutment area, by first piling sand bags against the dam, before digging out the sides of the bank and strengthening with concrete. Alternatively, if money and concrete are at a premium, plant something with good strong root stock.

this is great. makes the volute really generously big and handmade from fiberglass and resins which might also have been home made. perfect garden scale model hoover dam type. if your mortar is not too hard it might self heal the cracks that will occur as the arch deforms some as it presses into the abuttments made of the same red clay dirt we both have in our mineral rich volcanic periphery. i just might have to do this myself on the low head seep. those bricks are what i can make from my mountain of ash. win win. thanks.

this is great. makes the volute really generously big and handmade from fiberglass and resins which might also have been home made. perfect garden scale model hoover dam type. if your mortar is not too hard it might self heal the cracks that will occur as the arch deforms some as it presses into the abuttments made of the same red clay dirt we both have in our mineral rich volcanic periphery. i just might have to do this myself on the low head seep. those bricks are what i can make from my mountain of ash. win win. thanks.
