The highest pressure water is at the very bottom of the dam. So the turbine should be below the dam. The turbine outlet should be vertical and upward into a pool to reduce the turbulence of the outlet stream and save the down river bed from erosion.

he might not need / want ALL the pressure, though? Commercial plants have huge regulator valves to make sure the turbines are getting as much water as they need, but not more...which could damage the turbine.
Your points about erosion are spot on, frankly I think the bottom of the wall is going to wash out collapsing the whole thing.

the cement plastering was nice but laying the bricks into mud that dry usually wont adhere that well leading to less overall total strength
you really want to wiggle it into a fresh moist layer of mud brick by brick to really make it adhere to the mortar, i mean he is doing a nice job keeping it straight but a level line and more workable mud will really make it stronger

these are built for seven year durability. abuttment are self seating into the impermeable clay regolith due to compression of the arch. the floor can be sealed with clay ad hoc. the mix ratio will allow for self healing of cracks in the mortar as the arch deforms while seating itself into the abutment.

18:25 as far as I know, a counter pressure at the outlet of water will increase the output of the turbine. Just make it like the water lock in a toilet. Prevents cavitation, and keep a steady pressure/under pressure in the francis turbine. Will keep the turbine-pipe part full of water, which is an advantage.

When laying your mortar put a wavy line down the middle! it will make it easier to lay your bricks level, and give a stronger joint. it could do with slightly being a little bit more wet as well.

I do note, that you appear to be building on top of a concrete base, so that is at least one positive. The other being your concrete screeding with a what appears to be a good 2 to 1 mix. However, no cut, foundation or strengthening in the banks, where the Abutment of the Dam is, to the point it is almost comical. A lot of hard work seems wasted, without strengthening of the Abutment area. Especially as you will get rain runoff, almost certainly eroding the banks. Before you cleared the foliage, that was what was holding it together. The water is also much higher behind the dam now, so it can force its way round the abutment during heavy rain. Finally, if people are tempted to walk across the top, there is not enough structural strength even with the rebar.
My advice: Strengthen the Abutment area, by first piling sand bags against the dam, before digging out the sides of the bank and strengthening with concrete. Alternatively, if money and concrete are at a premium, plant something with good strong root stock.

this is great. makes the volute really generously big and handmade from fiberglass and resins which might also have been home made. perfect garden scale model hoover dam type. if your mortar is not too hard it might self heal the cracks that will occur as the arch deforms some as it presses into the abuttments made of the same red clay dirt we both have in our mineral rich volcanic periphery. i just might have to do this myself on the low head seep. those bricks are what i can make from my mountain of ash. win win. thanks.
