I’ve never bothered to clean the underside but was looking into it a couple of months ago. There used to be a Karcher under carriage attachment but they discontinued it. This hack is ideal 👍
Wow I have that karcher attachment never thought of using underneath the car. Will be doing this soon now!! Thanks for the tip, great work as always!
Cheap, easy and so effective! Thanks so much for the heads up, Jon! It worked a charm over the weekend. My wife gave me the looks when she thought that I had bought "another gadget" this time to wash under the car 🤣
I did something similar with a Parkside (LIDL) unit, which also adapts to my newer Karcher. I made a little wheeled attachment to clip onto the handles when it's upside down to enable better movement. Works for me!
Why didn’t I think of that? Great idea, thanks big man! 👍
Brilliant!!!!!! DId this today using my Nilfisk attachment. Had to put the car up on a set of low rise ramps I have but works a treat!!!!
Excellent idea, awesome to see such informative videos. Guy knows his stuff and it shows!
After I watched your pre wash foam comparison video and found out the rust inhibitor properties of the Bilt Hamber snow foam; which I already had, I clearly got the same idea as you did, and went ahead and used my foam cannon to wash the engine bay, arches and underside with the auto foam.
Quite straight forward to do with the foam cannon if you just put the front/rear of the car on axle stands.
Hi buddy! Thank you for the contentes and tips in your channel. Tje videos are very detailed - of course :) - and help-me to understand the reasons to apply and use techniques and specified kind of products in my car as well family and friends cars.
Thank you!!! 💪👍👊
That snow foam tip about rust inhibition is something i never thought of, especially handy owning a classic car which goes through panels like they’re going out of fashion.
Loving the use of the patio cleaner under the car. Will be doing all our cars using this at the next wash (never really cleaned under the car othe than a quick spriz of the pressure washer from the sides). Got some Atom-mac on order to do that part too
another good video , thanks for the great tip.
also just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation for the Bilt Hamber Auto foam . I used it roday for the first time ,the results spoke from themselves.
I use the karcher 360 degrees head. I use a k2 ,with a detergent tank. Great channel 👍
Karcher had a proper chassis attachment. But they stop selling it. I was lucky to get one here in the states for a decent price $130. I absolutely love it. I dont know why they discontinued it. They were really the only company that had a chassis cleaner.
there are lots of attachment that do this, one from ryobi with big wheel, one featured on autofanatic channel that fit on sports car, etc.. The main question is what kind of gun you have, and fiting you will have to use. Budget should be between 50 and 100$. I would say they are worth the price especially in areas where salt is an issue
@@TerrificFlow but not like karcher. My car is low, i bet the ryobi cant clear low cars.
Good call on using the Patio attachment upside down !. Ive got one and never even thought of that.
Got a spare patio cleaner after buying a new K4 which came with a new one. Think I will mod the old one just for the task by adding wheels, drain holes etc.
Cleaning the underside, especially the sills, is still valid in the summer especially if you live in the country with mucky roads from cows shit etc!
Great stuff Jon excellent advice.ill give that a go in the next few days.ive been using bilt hamber atom Mac on my brakes after I wash my car.thats a good idea from you to use it on the underneath if the car.
I was thinking the other day I might buy a patio cleaner for doing under my car hahaha great idea Jon i do have a Autobrite under chassis lance which i use regularly under my car great tool
I live in the North East of the US ( road salt country) so I’ve been doing this for more than 30 yrs. I put mine up on the ramps and use my flex wand so I can get to the topside of the subframes where the majority of salt etc. lays out of sight and does the most damage over time. I don’t use any rust inhibitors or anything else because after spending many years in the auto industry I know that all car bodies are dipped in a industrial rust inhibitor, primer mix and then paint. Note; don’t use an aggressive nozzle on your pressure washer, you can do some serious damage. As for how often. I do it after each snow storm and the roads have dried. And just like you I take mine for drive to dry it off
My buddies 2018 Chevy Silverado, which had the entire frame rust on him and replaced under warranty, would like some of these factory rust inhibitors lol
Thanks so much for this video, know it's not a recent one but I've been looking for the right snowfoam to use under my cars and will go with your advice on the Bilt Hamber. I've got a Karcher chassis cleaner which I use regularly through the winter months and it's really useful but I've been using PH neutral foam up until now the same as I use for the bodywork. Really good advice, thanks !
Genius, never thought of turning the patio cleaner upside down - had one for years!
Another well made video. Definitely need to get that snow foam now.
Another way would be to get a set of dolly wheels on a piece of board and then screw the patio cleaner on upside down. It would move freely and be close to the car. I got one from Lidl a while back for a few quid to stack a set of wheels on so I could move them around easily.
you can get little dollys in BandQ perfect size little square things. funny enough though, it actually moves around fine without wheels. it just like slides good. only problem if you lift it up it will try and flip.
I'm lucky enough to have a car shop in the next town that has an outdoor hoist specially made for cleaning those areas. They let me use the hoist and also their huge pressure washer (also heated water too) for a tip in the tip jar. I usually go there once a year during spring time and properly wash everything. Then I let it sit up there for 30 mins or so to let it try a bit and check out the status of the under-body sealant, if it needs some touch-up in some areas of if need to apply a whole new coat of sealant. 20 bucks a year well spent imo.
It’s a really good idea !! Thanks for sharing
I've just had a go with the patio washer and plain water as I had not watched the video the whole way through and found it to be worthwhile for getting the winter mud off. As I was pulling it out I still had the trigger pulled in and noticed how it sprayed the cills and also the wheels. As I had already sprayed the wheels with APC, Stardrops at 10% in this case, I put the patio cleaner up to the wheels and it did a brilliant job of cleaning them. I'm not sure that I would get the patio washer out just for this but as I had already used it it was great.
its well worth doing this at least once a year. all the winter film is salty and corrosive and its really great to blast it all off. great stuff john
I’m figuring out my ideal method for cleaning the undercarriage, but I recommend a long brush/broom so you can somewhat agitate without having to be underneath the car. There are brushes/brooms that even have a port to hook a water hose up to.
Recently jacked my car up and rinsed the underside off and sprayed water up inside the bumpers after going down a tidal road. Amazing how sandy mud sticks up there.
Thanks Jon great review
Merry Christmas great channel
Looking forward to 2024
Same to you
Always look forward to my Saturday morning fix mate and as ever you never disappoint fantastic tips as always thx 👍
Snap. Saturday morning routien. Coffee, ciggy (yes I know smoking is stupid) and a Forensic Detailing video. Sets me up nicely for the day.
thanks guys really appreciate it. thats what its all about. I like putting the videos out and doing it as well.
Absolutely Great idea John 👍will definitely be trying that .Where do you get spare empty detergent bottles and the black lid ?
This..... Is brilliant. Thanks Jon!
I really need that Bilt Hamber in the US! Been really wanting to try their Auto Foam and wash, when you made the point of products having corrosion inhibitors it made me think differently about what I'm doing.
HS Tuning carries some Bilt Hamber products here in the US. Just bought the Auto Wash but really hoping they'll get the complete lineup soon!
I followed the link and saw shipping to the US is 20 pounds! I love my car, but that hurts. I'm hoping to find some. 😣
Another excellent, informative video!
Fantastic video Jon
Cool video john.... May i ask you to do a documentary about how to stop getting stone chips in car paint work 😊👌👍
Nice tip 👍. I have a Nilfisk which came with a patio washer, but doesn't have an inline detergent dispenser so I will have to look into a workaround. Where there's a will, etc... Thanks for the upload.
Dodgy batch, my Karcher didn't last more than a couple of months, my Nilfisk is still going strong several years on.
This is exactly why I love this channel! Out the box thinking with science and facts! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I love the subtitles at the start: ""welcome back to the prison state-owned channel".
Brilliant! As always. Thank you
As you mentioned, with little electric pressure washers, the lower the car the better this will work. Also, it's good to know where your particular car may tend to rust so these areas can get special attention. Areas such as the rocker drain holes, the "dogbone" areas, and on top of the wheel tubs.
Great little trick!
There is already a proper part for that in the market already. Pan the organizer made a video with that.
I am going to buy a Nilfisk pressure washer as I heard good things about it.
Nice video mate
US is a different market really. I dont think theres a market for them in the UK (generally). Karcher made one then discountinued it etc...
average american property has nice big double garage lots of space etc, doesnt cost much money to buy, Americans buy lots of stuff. Average UK property doesnt even have a garage, you dont get much space, a small house in certain parts of the country would get you a ranch in america.
But most UK households will have and recognise the little patio cleaner device. flip it upside down and you can clean under your car.
I use a Nilfisk which did come with a patio cleaner but I never thought to turn it upside down so I ended up buying a water broom.
In winter time I wash few time of underneath of car, and of course in spring. That thing what you have take space and money. Pressure washer for me is enough :)
I have 1 like this for my water hose and 1 for my Nilfisk Proffesional but it has kind of a turbo function to it since it is made of metal so it can be a little dangerous to use under the car. Also my car is tectyl protected.
Dear sir, congratulations one more time for this fantastic video. Please i would like some advice.
I know you have used and rewied in the past, koche chemie green star AND bilt hamber HD.
In my country
HD costs 20euro/1lt and 40+euro for 5lt canister,
Green star costs only 5 euros /1lt.
I want to buy one of them, to clean most tyres, wheels , wheel wells engines, and myabe some very dirty interiors-seats-door panels jams..............................(as a mild apc for interiors i am already using valet pro apc witch is PH10 but it cannot clean very dirty pasts as wheels e.t.c).
Please can you suggest me one between HD and GS???? for those purposes??? and any suggested dilution??/
kind regards
Thansk for your help sir
I have the same machine Jon amd do the very same the only thing different is i knocked off one of my young blokes old skate boards and tie the cleaner to the skateboard as it gets it a bit closer to the surface and can move it around a lot easyer 👍👍
lol cool idea.
Thanks for the great video!!!
Smart idea Jon. My karcher I think is the compact one so cant put the bottle in it like yours however I'm sure a snowfoam lance is okay.
Zain K I may have the same compact one as you. There should be a pipe on the back you can dip into a bottle.
The yoda of car detailing 👌🏻
Karcher do an underbody lance, with a 90* bend making it easier to cleaning underside. Pressure a lot higher than using patio cleaner but has a narrower spray arc, so would recommend using underbody lance for cleaning (blasting off dirt) and patio attachment for applying a treatment,
this underbody thing unless your in the trade its going to be something that just gathers dust. just do what I do and flip the patio clear upside down it works great Nick.
I love it . What is the tool on top of your cupboard behind you John with continental plug.I know I am nosy
its just a leaf blower mate. I nicked it off my parents years ago they were gonna bin it.. but its been usefull as a car blower. they are about sort of 20-30 quid new I think toro leaf blower.
I find that the underneath doesn't really get too dirty. It's the wheel arches and the sills behind the wheel arches. The best tool is a right angled lance. Take the wheels off and clear the muck off the suspension and brake components. Then apply an anti corrosion wax or similar.
Just to add a very obvious point; for anyone with a water softener connected to their water system be sure to bypass the softener while doing this. Water Softeners work by adding salt to the water (in simplistic terms).
Can you do a review on the carbon collective range? Products seem decent.
I've got the Karcher chassis washer attachment that i use.
I use the karcher chassis cleaner which comes with a foam attachment for underside of the car, I got this a few years ago for about £38 which works really well.
I use it 3 or 4 times a year usually when I do the big detail wash.
Using the patio cleaner upside down will fill up with water affecting performance of it where the karcher chassis cleaner has all the holes so it doesn't collect water and wheels on it.
Best thing about the expensive tool karcher do for the underside cleaning is that u can easily adjust the he as height and get as close as u need to the underside of the car.
Karcher do sell an underchasis cleaner ,I’ve got one and it’s great with adjustable height and a little bottle to put stuff in
Exactly. I have a video on the proper attachment. Much better than his rudimentary idea. Expensive now though.
@@DetailingandtheBeast its not a bad idea but like you say there is an attachment
Also what do you think of the Turtle wax Hybrid black Spray Polish is it any good. Thanks Again.
Do you recommend EVEAGE 2-in-1 undercarriage & surface cleaner?
Jon, you’re such a cheapskate! I love it!
I lucked into a Karcher under-chassis cleaner for £19 at B&Q. I have a Kranzle pressure washer now, but I got a converter so I can continue to use the under-chassis cleaner.
thats cheap I would have bought the product for 19 quid. I think it was a lot more than that when I saw them. was that like a special offer?
@@ForensicDetailing Yes, it was on offer. They had a bunch with damaged boxes, so were clearing them out. They're usually £80-90.
Is that patio lance on wheels, my k2 has one but it don’t have wheels like you seem to have, does it?....can I use a karcher Lance with it as I don’t have the k4 where you can put on side of machine.
Hi one more thing with the Ato Mac 5 percent to how much water. Thanks
Hi mate when they 2 to 5 percent for the atom MAC is it say 5 percent 5 mls cheers.
You could make one up with stainless steel tubing, then drill some very small holes and have them pointing opposite to each other, that way the pressure from the water will hit everywhere and attach a fitting which will attach to most hi pressure water systems, even better is the hot water systems, and then also make a couple of wheel attachments and there you go, a underside car / 4 x4 x cleaner. ) Also lets not forget to use CAR pros Hydro2 products to protect the underside of the car. :)
Still a good idea to use the concrete scrubber well done champ and keep up the great work, now that i have mentioned the above someone will try to make one and then make them in china for next to nothing and sell them lol, just need to put the paetnet in and they will have to pay me to use the design etc. :)
you could make them yer. I think might be a bit more work though.. the patio hack thing does kind of work though.
Hi mate with the b/h snow foam how much did you put in the bottle and how much water did you add Cheers mate
I recently watched a video review of rust inhibitors. His findings pointed to sta--bil rust inhibitor as the winner. I'd like to see a review of this method vs sta-bil.
Duh why the f*** did I never think of that? Great idea and so simple like all the best ideas. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
May I ask ehat hoae you are using with the K4. The standart one I got with mine is so short.
The patio cleaner that came with my karcher doesn't have the ability to adjust the angle unfortunately so I'm a bit jealous
Cheers for thje video love this channel, just a quick question So is it wash with the cleaner, rinse and then the atom matt?
yes mate.
Also how much of the snow foam did you put in the bottle to water. Tar
Most German cars have full under body covers to protect against corrosion but good idea I must say.
Hi,
Brilliant video 👍
I’m planning on spraying some of the underside of my car with BH UC wax, do you think the BH snow foam will wash it off?
I’d hope not, my subframe is covered in dynax lol
HI Mate can you help asap if you go under the car with high pressure and the snow foam. Do you need to go under again with just water. Would not have cleaned and applied and that's it. Cheers Mark
I use the undercarriage tool, works well and is height adjustable
I also use the 360 degree swivel head from Karcher, ( check it out John, it's also is a great tool for cleaning the inside wheel wells and get behind the wheels and everything) it dispensens soap much easier because of pressure control, the more power there is comming true the nozzle the less soap it dispenses. (Karcher K5) I then use the patio cleaner on a contraption that i make where the wheels are on the side to rinse everything down :) Great tip on chemicals though!!
Ive not heard of that werner. ill have a look for it now. thakns mate love reading the comments for all the cool tips.
your totally right about the pressure thing as well yer. I feed the chems through with no pressure then lump on the patio cleaner and you get a good amount of cleaner going through then.. but if you try and go striaght to high pressure your right the chems just dont draw properly.
@@ForensicDetailing That's indeed a way to work around the pressure issue, I was thinking... mayby there's a way to modify the Karcher bottles with some sort of connection from a bicycle tyre or even a compressor connection and force the product under pressure into the system? I know my compressor can be adjusted to be as low as 1 bar (14.50PSI) The 360 nozzle is called: "Vario Power Jet 360*" make sure you buy the right one because there are models for K2 up to K4 and for K5 up to K7 I believe. The bloke at the shop told me that this is important or otherwise you gonna have problems with the pump.
@@thingsido6067 have a google on bicycle pump hack electric type pump electric pump pressure washer mod. some guys did something like this.
Hi mate great demo will the atom Mac protect the car underside from salt cheers mark
Not long term from a single hit but on a regular basis washing and atom macing willhelp
I love you thorough scientific approach. can you pleae do a brand review for AMMo NYC products or a comparison
Exactly what i do although i have an underbody lance, rinse then spray with Koch Green star, rinse then spray over with ACF-50, i might the foam and atom mac products a go
great minds. koch green star would be ideal as well for this.
How are you applying the acf50? Isn’t it quite thick?
Is it ok to do this on a Smart Car?
Hi, for when you put the atom mac in the snow foam bottle, you put your desired amount in but then did you top the rest of the bottle up with water or did you just leave the concentrated amount of atom in the snow foam? Cheers
Think pir m8. And just apply at recommended pir.
Hi Jon, so 4 years on from when you posted this, have you invested in a new under car wash spray bar on wheels yet? Also one that's low profile to use with out jacking the car up? Cheers fella 👍
I've not m8 I still use this method
Great idea but be careful of water ingress, I’ve had two BMW’s where just going through a big puddle has blown the ballast on the headlight modules, Some very sensitive electricals on some of these cars.
Interesting tony. you talking about like the leveling sensors on the lower arms? whats the ballast pls mate.
Hi mate, xenon ballast control unit. On my e64 it sat behind the head unit but kind of open, it blew once when the road was semi flooded and had to drive through - quite common. Had to take bumper off to replace.
Great idea! Subbed and belled :)
Can you review autobrite project 64 mate?
Hi mate great idea never would have thought. Just to ask is ok to run other liquids through a karcher. I always thought you had to use the karcher cleaners only.Would it damage the machine cheers
should be fine mate. Its a good point though. karcher have like a universal cleaner which is a similiar thing to an APC. I think most water based detergents you will be fine running through this.
Forensic Detailing Channel 👍 nice one thanks fir the info.
HI Mate Just to ask you how long would the ato mac protect for. Cheers
I dont think theres an exact answer to that.. because like you could use it to protect steel for example.. but if the wrong chemical hit that steel it could still trigger oxsidation. So very hard to answer. question for bilt hamber that is really mate. let me know what they say.
Attach wheels to the top of the patio cleaner, makes it easier to manoeuvre
I made a contraption of pvc tubing to just that, having the wheel on the side so you can manouvre it in to more tight spaces. works great exept for the soap dispemsing, aint comming out much if i use it.
@@thingsido6067 Maybe some small nylon pieces , we used them cause of the low friction at work.
50ml or 15ml of BH Atom MAC to 300ml of water? Great vid 👍🏼
50ml jay
Nilfisk 🤘🏾
I spray the underside on my car with koch chemie green star and rinse it clean with a garden lawn sprinkler (not the type that has a moving bar) that I attached wheels to. Works nicely as there's not enough clearance under my car for the patio cleaner.
How do you apply it with a foam gun on pressure washer?
@@connorlumsden3950 I have a pump sprayer with a flexible hose and long handle
Has anyone engaged a garage to clean the underside with a dry ice blaster ?
Jon,did you fix the patio cleaner to something with wheels once you were moving it under the body? or are you just dragging it around?? about to try the same with the nilfisk patio cleaner!
i just drag it around you could put on a trolley but it will hinder more than help i thjink
@@ForensicDetailing top man Jon.
Jon, would you use Atom Mac on your brake discs to prevent rusting after washing the wheels??
thats one of its main use yes. but I dont do it every wash, I might do though not sure yet... It cant always stop it though. for example.. If a FR hits a brake disc its gonna cause it to instantly oxidise even with this stuff on it I think. although it will reduce it a tad.
@@ForensicDetailing thanks Jon for quick reply, appreciated.👍
How much pre wash and atom mac product do you put in the karcher detergent bottle ?
3-5% PIR mate. you have to calculate PIR though with a test run. those feed systems suck though you are prolly better snow foaming it on.,
@@ForensicDetailing can you snow foam under a car affectively?
I think it might be a bad idea as if you blast water under your car are you going to blast it into crevices where gravity won't do the work for you to get it out and by proxy cause rusting.
I might be being pedantic and overly cautious here though to be fair. If it's safe to do then I'm game for it but I'm always ever skeptical and worried about rust under the car personally.
good to always question things joppsta. but water gets thrown under the car all the time really mate. i think its pretty safe mate. The thing with it is it might not be like agressive enough for older cars that have never been cleaned properly. you might need contact to really clean something dirty properly and obvious you need to be carefull with cleaning under a car when its lifted.
Cheers for the reply and I don't disagree but my point is more that we're firing a pressure washer at the car rather than a splash in a puddle. As it's not something that's really widely done there's not really any data on whether this affects a car's rust development but as always there has to be pioneers for this data to come about.
Undersealing in general I think is something that doesn't have a lot of information out there.
Did you buy that reusable karcher bottle??
no it came with the karcher. Ive just never used the product inside. I only use it to take the lid off and put the lid on another bottle to feed other stuff. I think karcher do sell them though as empty bottles as well.
Do you still recommend auto foam over surfex hd
touchless as prewash eren, and surfex for APC. I dont use autofoam now.
