  • The Tragic Story of Shana Grice: Murder, Stalking, and the Failures of Law Enforcement
    Description:
In a chilling tale of murder, stalking, and the devastating failures of law enforcement, the story of Shana Grice sends shockwaves through our society. Shana Grice, a young woman with her whole life ahead of her, fell victim to a series of horrifying events that ultimately led to her tragic death.
The nightmare began when Shana became the target of relentless stalking by her ex-boyfriend, Michael Lane. Despite reporting numerous incidents to the police, including vandalism, harassment, and even a burglary where Lane was the prime suspect, Shana found herself trapped in a terrifying cycle of fear and intimidation.
Despite her pleas for help, Shana's concerns were dismissed by authorities, who failed to recognize the severity of the situation. Instead of being supported and protected, she was treated as an inconvenience, with one officer even labeling her as "wasting police time." This shocking indifference to Shana's plight would prove to have fatal consequences.
On the fateful day of March 25th, 2016, Shana's worst fears were realized when Michael Lane brutally murdered her in her own home. The tragic loss of this vibrant young woman sent shockwaves through her community and raised disturbing questions about the failures of the justice system to protect women from domestic violence and stalking.
Shana's story serves as a haunting reminder of the dangers that many women face on a daily basis. Despite efforts to raise awareness about the prevalence of stalking and intimate partner violence, too many victims continue to suffer in silence, their pleas for help falling on deaf ears.
In the aftermath of Shana's murder, there was a public outcry for accountability and reform within law enforcement agencies. Questions were raised about the training officers receive in handling cases of stalking and domestic violence, as well as the need for better coordination between different agencies to ensure that victims receive the support and protection they desperately need.
However, Shana's death also sparked a movement for change. Her family and friends have become vocal advocates for victims of stalking and domestic violence, tirelessly campaigning for reforms to prevent another tragedy like hers from happening again.
As we reflect on the tragic loss of Shana Grice, we must also recognize the importance of standing up against violence and injustice in all its forms. We owe it to Shana and countless other victims like her to ensure that their voices are heard and their lives are not forgotten.

@@rockstarofredondo A police officer literally has the power of life or death over an individual. Thats a pretty damn heavy totem pole that they are low men of.
Have you heard of Rodney King? I dont think that was the system as understood & written. That was the "unspoken" rules that the "low men" can pop out with at any hint of disrespect or sideways talk. How the system operates isnt the sole consideration. The manner in which an officer interacts with you is often equally as important as whether some D.A. chooses to prosecute or not. Cops can go their whole careers without shooting a person or even drawing their gun, if they choose to be that type of cop. A cop can disarm 99% of situations with their mouth, attitude, conduct or behaviour, if they choose to.
The system allows for specific outcomes. Cops can influence or instigate what those outcomes will be. Between a cop being a fist or a flower is a vast sea of officer discretion my friend. Its not the system thats deciding whether the squeaky wheel gets the grease or if the squeaky wheel just became a pain in the ass & there's enough flakey laws to throw that squeaky wheel in the back of the car & change the course a "wheels" life take's thereafter, from a single arrest they made under "officer discretion" rules. Nah, you're talking to the wrong person with that theory Im afraid.

A girl I was going to college with went to the police to report stalking WITH evidence and people who witnessed it ready to testify, but the policeman who she was reporting to told her to "JUST GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE" and that it would be much easier. She didn't know the man who was stalking her, she has never seen him before. One day he just started following her and standing near her house. She snapped very clear photos of him and was ready to give them to police. They didn't care. Luckily, her neighbours were pretty decent people and were looking out for her. He eventually left, but I'm sure he's someplace new, stalking others.

This was a great video as usual from you. It’s such a sad situation for her. I do have to say, the intro where you talk about stalkers and celebrities, almost all, if not, all of the examples you gave in the intro have to do with a stalker who doesn’t personally know the victim, so it kind of set me up for a different experience than I actually got from the video. I personally think a stalker stalking due to obsession of their idol or just a random person who they have never met is very different than someone who has had a personal relationship with the stalker. I’m not saying one is better than the other or anything like that, just different expectations for the content to follow if I’m making any sense. I think stalkers definitely would be more prone to stalk people they have been close to, or I guess in the case of celebrities, feel like they were close to them due to their work impacting their lives in a parasocial way.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  2 месяца назад +1

It doesn't have to be someone their close to that's really what parasocial relationships are. The stalker creates an imaginary relationship with the victim. It is sometimes someone they know but not always. I see where you're coming from though, I was just using a shorthand people would know.
If I named a bunch of stalking cases from criminal law they wouldn't have any relevance to people

I also want to say, I could really hear how upset you were when you were talking about how idiotic the cops were, and I really felt that. It was making me upset too lol. You must haven't encountered many crime stories, or been involved with the police to pin it on these individual cops when even in this case, nothing happened to the cops after they failed to protect this girl from a predator that was repeatedly reported upon.
This is actually the norm. If police legally or professionally "don't have to" protect the marginalized or vulnerable. then they won't. There's actually more incentive for them to not do it: time, effort, public money and resources, other responsibilities, and that the fact that Michael has more social connections. They are more incentivized to shut her up instead.
Police can routinely dismiss accusations of rape, harassment, missing people as long as there are no repercussions, and for certain victims there aren't. Police only "get to work" when there are - connections with elites involved, personal connections, wealth, public outcry, media reports, lawyers, etc. When there isn't, it's better for the police to dismiss it.

Shana did everything right. She documented everything, she filed reports (which we're always told to do), she told people around her. Even when she is recording her phone call she still keeps a calm tone and speaks with compassion, which i can only imagine would have taken an immense amount of strength given the fear of knowing her stalker was in her room centimeters away from her the night before.

Yeah, as a woman myself I'm baffled that she was willing to have a relationship with this man when she already had a long term relationship with her boyfriend. Why would she want to cheat? Just break up? Not that I'm blaming her completely, the man who did this horrendous act is the one to blame. He had a history of grooming young girls. He should have been locked up a long time ago. But of course it was covered up. Then again, this sounds very similar to my own parents relationship. My mother was 19 and my bio father was 27. He was in a long term relationship, dumped his gf of ten years to be with my mother, and he wanted to "see other people." My mum fsr thought she was in love with him and thought having a baby would keep him. Newsflash fellow ladies, babies are not a magic relationship fixer. Somehow I came along and I was still treated as a failure and dissapointment by my alcoholic single mother, who wonders why I don't want to be like her, find a nice man and get married and have kids. When that obviously worked out so well for her. She's not exactly been the most reliable parent. Oh, and the whole denying your only daughter is asexual thing.
