- The Captain Thomas Mantell UFO Mystery is one of the oldest and strangest recorded UFO encounters. Spotted by multiple independant air force personnell on the ground and at least two fighter pilots in the air. One pilot, Captain Mantell, decided to chase the UFO and it ultimately led to his death.

My great grampa was a barn stormer and test pilot. he did a lot of work with the govt after WW2. A lot of experimental aircraft weren't ever logged in any paperwork. Ever.
Now it probably has more red tape than a huge corporation lmoa. Would have been a cool time

10:00 I don't think that's "curious", UFO just being unidentified flying object, it doesn't mean "conclusively identified as a spaceship". Of course UFOs exist.

Research is always important for me
I take any claims of anything paranormal with extreme skepticism. It usually turns out to be explainable (like a weather balloon) or the evidence is in such poor quality that is something unknown/unverifiable. Glad Peaked Interest keeps their head on their shoulders :)

Thank you for this upload. I am fascinated by this story. I discovered Mr. Mantell's story in an old comicbook. Not a typical source of information since comics tend to be fictional. But it turns out, this story was not fictional at all. Details in the comic appear to match actual records of what happened. There are conflicting accounts of the description of the UFO. But there are enough accounts in my opinion, that suggest this was not a skyhook balloon. You have done really good research here and your videos are so well-made. Mr. Mantell's story is how I discovered your channel. Back to the comic though. There are a few details that suggest to me that Mantell's plane was taken down by something unknown to us. Something potentially hostile and dangerous. The comic says Mantell and his plane were found about 90 miles away from the area where he was flying. What would cause that and is this account accurate? Another detail in this publication indicates there was metal on the plane that was "scored by peculiar deep lines, as if he ran into a shower of some terribly unexplained force." Deep lines made me think of scratches and the possibility of some sort of attack. In your video, I found what I was looking for, which is clear photos of the actual wreckage. This was 75 years ago. Many bystanders in the photos were kids. Some of them might still be alive. What an interview that could be if they remember that day. In one of those photos, I zoomed in at 6:56 and did indeed notice scratches that looked like something had deliberately dug into the metal rather than just being damage sustained from the crash. I'd like to know more about the reports of peculiar deep lines.

I explain this to people too. People will say UFO's don't exist, like an escaped balloon couldn’t happen. To blow their minds: if you knew it was an alien spaceship, it wouldn't be a UFO 🛸. Irregardlessly

Good video , until now I knew Captain Mantell was chasing Planet Venus, but since seen this video, I believe definitely it was a weather Balloon, sadly a great Pilot died in vain, believing in Flying Saucer, which at that time it was it was UFO hay day, he left a name in history of Ufology . I admired him and the story of his chasing the supposed Flying Saucer. Thanks for posting
There is more to this story then what " we" are told...and no it wasn't a balloon, no it wasn't on rador...and Yes it definitely was an unidentified flying object.

The UFO hypothesis is bc the timing. It's so near Roswell and the ensuing UFO explosion.
I consider it bc i doubt a pilot would take such a risk over a balloon. It is more likely he was "mesmerized" like so many experiencers claim, and then suffered hypoxia due to losing account of his climbing.
The truth is hard to get to when you have the very ppl who worked on Blue Book saying it was a cover-up.

A white hot glow is very common in photos of u.f.o.s as in one of my own photos. So many people have seen u.f.o.s and there are photos of which some will be fake . The question of why do we not get very clear photos of these objects is often asked. My distant photo is sharp but when i enlarge it on my laptop it is not as sharp of course though the two large white hot areas show up well ,i do not know why photos are not sharper perhaps the disturbance of air around the object due to its unusual propulsion has an effect we can all surmise.

Why did the pilot go to 20k feet with no oxygen.... He just went to sleep! Would a balloon reflect radar? Only if it was metallic. If a balloon suddenly lost it's bales it would go strait UP!

A lot of optical illusions happen at altitude, in addition lack of oxygen to the brain caused by high g forces also causes visual issues..it's not inconceivable
