    This is a weird case, to me a weird aspect of this case is that the maid was covered with a blanket, they can imply one of two things to me. First, she was covered up in shame by the murder because she wasn't an actual target for them but they simply accidentally ran into her while checking the room. Or secondly, the person covered her up because she was the target or the attack snd they knew her personally and despite killing her maybe harbored some form of love. It's just really weird

    the one thing that makes me doubt lorenz as the killer is this murder seems very organised and planned, extremely clean work to silently kill each person so the others have no idea. his motive as a crime of passion doesn't seem to align with the calculation behind this - those killings tend to be unorganised and, as the name suggests, passionate. he is the only one with real motive though. it's tricky.

  • @MonasteryOfSilence
    @MonasteryOfSilence Год назад +9

    Great job once again! I really like the campfire analysis and the drawing that showed us the family's and murderer's movements.
    What a mystery, i wish we could go back in time to solve cases like these. All the family killed, and 4 of them just as they were entering the barn, why the hell 4 of them entered the barn in the night one after another? My guess is that lack of information because of the age of the crime renders us unable to draw proper conclusions. One thing i am sure about is that the murderer or murderers were experienced at this because killing with a mattock in one blow probably takes a lot of practice.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  Год назад +3

      Old cases like this one are very tough, theres usually very little actual materials. This makes it tough to both make a video and also draw a reasonable conclusion

  • @abingleyboy
    @abingleyboy Год назад +7

    I think the killer knew the family personaly, and i think this because of the maid being the only victim to be covered over. She was collateral damage if you like, but the family were fully targeted and were assassinated one by one, they were lead to their death probably by someone they trusted and once in the barn they were killed and left. The maid being covered up says to me, the murderer was somewhat apologetic to killing her and gave her some dignity by covering her. The rest of the family no such feeling

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  Год назад +1

      Seems like a fair assumption.

    • @abingleyboy
      @abingleyboy Год назад +1

      @@PeakedInterest also I'd say the murderer knew the goings on or workings of the farm, to have the whereabouts to stay in the home and feed the animals. Either they were probably hiding in the house (noises in the attick) and learned the daily comings and goings, but more likely because they knew the family, they knew the likelyhood of being found while living in the home for however long. I know it's not that unsual for a killer to murder a family and then stay at the home using the family's rooms and eating their food feeding pets, even using their toilet. The unsolved Japanese family killed in this way, Setagaya family for instance in 2000. But I still think whoever murdered the most probably knew them and their daily routine. But I guess we'll never know it being so long ago.

    This is the hardest case to solve in my opinion. Due to the time, lack of surviving Evidence, etc. It's such a crazy case. The thought of someone sneaking around a rural farm house, killing an entire family, and staying around for a few days afterwards, yet not stealing the $ that was around.. (I saw one theory that maybe their neighbors had a role in this? Idk. It would be crazy to see this get solved someday but the house is destroyed and so is the evidence so I doubt it ever will be solved)

    Honestly; The Hinterkaifeck Murders has to be the most mindboggling mystery of all time. I remember hearing about it for the first time in "Lore", where they made an excellent episode (ofc sprinkled with some drama for the audience), but I was captivated by it and started watching docs about it.
    This has to be the best videos of it yet; it's precise, infomative without any unnecessary drama and well-told. I don't think the Hinterkaifeck will ever be solved, especially without any notable forensics. But my money is on Paul Mueller - it's not the first time someone travels a distance for murdering; Jack Unterweger killed in Austria, the US AND Czechoslovakia. Or if H. H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper was the same person, then H.H. had to travel from Chicago to London ( I have no idea if it's true or even possible, but it sounds plausible).

    I always suspected the neighbour. Mostly because he was right next door, he knew how to take care of the farm (feeding the animals) he had a motive (i actually vaguely remember someone saying he would inherit the land as well) and the family dog barked at him. This isnt conclusive, but he stands out as the number 1 suspect. The idea of the son being the killer is way too far fetched. He was MIA and his body was never found? The list for war casualties that shared that same fate in ww1 alone is endless.

    I've always thought this was a random killer with no connection to the family. The killings don't have the hallmarks of something personal (ie dozens of stab wounds). I think the person was living in the attic or barn of the property for a while before striking, and did it either for the thrill or to cover their tracks when they were discovered.

I always thought that Lorenz was the most likely suspect, especially when you consider that some creep had been living on the property before the killings. It just makes it so much more likely that someone had been very thoughtful about the murders. (The poor new maid!) But, as noted in this video, there are holes to this theory.

    Amazing video like always, extremely fun to see the campfire analysis once again.
    The emotions expressed throughout the animation connect perfectly to the music. It's extremely impressive how every video is designed, and the care for detail really shows!
    This is a tragic story. But you managed to once again portray the case with enough hope, that it didn't become completely depressing.
    Personally my current theory is that it was most likely two or more people. One would be known by the family, whileas the other/others would've been completely unknown. This explains why some of the victims followed into the barn, and it also explains why they didn't seem to have time to really defend themselves.
    The maid however, is one I had a little trouble with. However, I think it could be explained by -assuming there were multiple killers- one walking into the room and killing someone they didn't know was an unreliable witness, or possibly just to prevent her from leaving the house. Considering someone (or someones) stayed at the house a while, i think that the maid's murder could be explained by that.
    Assuming all my speculations are correct, the question would be who was it the family knew? My guess is Lorenz. It would make sense, but why would he stay there afterwards? My thoughts are he didn't. The one/ones staying in the house afterwards could've been the other killers, and Lorenz "found" the bodies as a way to drive them away from the house.
    It is pure speculation, but my personal thought is that it couldn't have been done alone after the first barn murder. There had to be someone else ready to kill, as the sight of the body would scare someone into running away. That theory could be explained by the fact it was a family member and they were in shock long enough for Lorenz to grab the mattock.
    Or perhaps the family never saw the bodies, but then how could one person be able to grab a mattock and swing it into someone's head without them reflexively raising an arm to protect their face?
    I'm looking forward to seeing the next video, keep up the awesome work!

    btw at about 9:30 the music is a bit loud, it drowns out your words.
    the neighbor makes the most sense to me tbh. there are plenty of people nowadays who murder someone they 'love' because they can't have them, or commit other atrocities. also maybe he didn't _know_ the child wasn't his, he just suspected, and that was enough.

    Once again you have brought information about this terrible crime that I was previously unaware of. If I had to guess, I think Lorenz is the strongest candidate to be the murderer. He may have had the information about the child's parentage thrown at him during an argument, and then had a breakdown of some sort which led him to believe the rest of the family were complicit in the deception. The maid was killed as she may have seen him when he came into the house to search for the child, or have been aware that it was he who had called the family members into the barn. But, as you say, all we have now is conjecture as it is unlikely evidence will be discovered to incriminate the murderer.

    The Lorenz theory is kind of weird for me, as it seems like a really easy conclusion to draw. He definitely had motive and opportunity, and it does match with the idea of the killer being someone they knew. Still, there are aspects of how specifically the murder played out that make it really hard for me to fully buy into it. The killer had supposedly spent quite some time inside the house, and even after killing them, including them attending the farm. That doesn't make much sense when Lorenz also has to take care of his own farm. If he had taken care of two farms at once, surely someone would have noticed something weird about him potentially vanishing for multiple hours every day. And to add to the idea, the motive, while it is definitely compelling on the surface, doesn't really make a lot of sense in combination with the actions of the killer. If he really killed Viktoria in a jealous rage, why would he be patiently waiting inside her house? If someone is angry like that to a murderous degree, generally speaking, they will take it out right then and there. And then, for some reason, continued living in the house afterwards. To sum it up, which is something someone else pointed out in the comments, the actions of the killer speak to someone cold and calculating, which doesn't line up with Lorenz's potential motive, which is more suited to someone of a crime of passion.
    All of these are really difficult questions to fully answer, so I can't really confidentially say it is him, I can't fully dismiss him, but yeah.

    I’d never seen a floor plan of the farm house before, that was a great touch. It really visualized the progression of the murders.
    Personally, I think this was what we know as secret squatter-related crimes, where a homeless stranger is living in an occupied home without the owners knowing they’re there, living off of stolen food taken in small amounts that (hopefully) won’t be noticed.
    I think the squatter was down in the barn, thinking the family was in for the night and that nobody would come into the barn for anything. But then someone did, and the squatter panicked and killed her. Then he realized that he and the body would be discovered unless he killed everyone else as well. I think the only reason he killed the baby was because he had no intentions of caring for him, and figured it would be better than leaving him to starve. The killer must have had some very compelling reason for wanting to stay there for additional time rather than simply fleeing after getting caught. Even back then, people would notice the absence of an entire family pretty quick.
    And he must have been there unseen for a long time, since the former maid heard him moving around in the attic so frequently that she thought the house was haunted and she quit, hence the new maid.

Also take a look at the buzz feed unsolved crimes and see their thumbnails, having a logo with a contrast on your thumbnail also helps you stand out and immediately helps people recognise that its a video from you.

    You Tube have become arse holes, what problems they may have with your videos they should be more specific for you!
    How are you supposed to pass the censors, if they don’t inform you of what their problems are, it’s as if they are deliberately wanting your channel to fail.
    In the past I have considered uploading videos on to You Tube, but not anymore, as I have seen more and more channels having the same complaint as you, so it has become a none starter.
    As for your videos, excellent work, non offensive, thought provoking and very, very interesting, so please do not stop, you would be missed massively!

    You mention DNA in this video, but I doubt that would have been a concern if this took place in 1922. At that time, they didn't even know DNA existed, let alone be able to use it for forensics.

    Suspect two seems like the most likely, its the Money for me.
    Though staying in the house and eating the bread is suspect as fuck and would be a bad idea you are more likely to get caught with bodies.. its possible he took the bread and cut of meat home afterwards - in the middle of the night.
    Knowing that if he took the money then people found him with it.. it'd shout that he did it..
    But then again why not take it- and hide it.
    Like wise the dead husband theory is also invalid, why leave money if your starting a new life more money more better.
    the serial killer angle works best with the money but its not very solid beyond that.

    Finding his DNA at the scene? Is he aware that forensic DNA results were only a thing at about 70 to 80 years later? And it was southern Germany, not the north. This documentary is poorly made

      I do mention the issue about DNA in the very same section where you heard this. I mention that while DNA was not a thing at that time collection of footprints, accurate mapping and logging of events etc were a thing but still weren't done.
      You're right on the north south aspect, that was a mistake on my part

    Hello World there is a good, indeed very good video from Rotten Raven Studios here on YT on this case. The video presents a convincing theory on this case. So if you really want to know what was look for this video. All the best
