Beautiful shirt guys and..people...the technic of this song is out of the World . Great bass line . Alex Van Halen who is a Beast stays very clear and relatively Easy in this track . But the precision of the timing is supernatural eheh as well the bass drum kicks
In an era where a lot of bands would pretend to play over the studio track, they remained true to their music. I just love the commitment to be a band and do live takes. The musicianship of the highest calibre.
Still can't believe Eddie's really gone. I miss him already, RIP...
Hit me harder than anybody from that era.
Michael Anthony just kills it on the bass in this song.,
Every song. And his amazing backing vocals.
The secret weapon. Henry Rollins summed him up best. A big, thundering bass line with Beach Boys esque vocal harmonies. Fits anytime, anywhere, any genre.
I absolutely Sammy Hagars voice…he’s an amazing performer! Hail to the Red Rocker!!
Agreed. Sammy was a huge talent for decades and had a far better vocal range than DLR. Good guitarist and song writer too. He was pure talent.
The Mighty Van Halen! Enough said.
Let's not forget about Alex Vanhalen back there killing the drums.
And killing the band unfortunately
That groove!!! They could play in the pocket all day long!!
Once again, that's why they were Mighty Van Halen! They just slay !!
Just one of my favs from Van Hager! Just Perfection. Their love songs were amazing as well.
How do I know if it’s love
I can’t stop loving you
That was their famous 1991 MTV Awards performance!!! The Metal and Grunge year!!!
I was a teen throughout the 80s decade and wish we had a way to bring any fan of the 80s from today's generation back in time to experience music of the 80s including MTV. It will blow your mind!🎸🤘
I bet it was super fun to see them guys live in the 80's
It was
It was insane.
I saw the last concert series with David Lee Roth and the first concert series when Sammy Hagar joined them. The ’80s were the greatest!! I was in high school.
I saw them open for Black Sabbath in 1978
@@loudog2326 that's awesome
Great request, I always liked this era, Sammy seemed like a cool dude.
Hey, Mikey’s bass was crazy in this song. He is the king of 16th-note bass rhythm. In Chickenfoot’s “Turnin Left” he does it even faster with with some killer fills.
Always loved Sammy at 6:56. 'Yeah, this is a real concert!' as if someone near the front thought it might be tracked and lip-synched. Prophetic. Not long after an interviewer asked Eddie what advice he would give to a young, aspiring musician. 'Learn to dance' was the sardonic reply.
Anyone who's listened to the studio tracks can tell instantly that these are really live. Eddie doesn't always play his fills the same way, and you can hear the minor mistakes. That they can play live almost as clean as a studio track is a testament to how good of musicians they were.
Of course, playing live can also bite you in the ass, as this is also the infamous show, where later on in the evening Poison performed, and CC Deville was drunk off his ass and was messing up all over the place.
Chris B. mentioned Vinnie and Dime Bags ritual before going on stage, Dime Bag was buried with Eddie's black and yellow guitar from, I think, the Van Halen Fair Warning album.
VH II
I remember watching that on TV live and thinking, "Damn! Sammy Hagar is way better than I thought!"
Yup. Lots of lights were there. What about the stacks of speaker? People outside the arena must have thought they were feeling an earthquake.
That is so cool, i remember that performance, i saw Van Halen only once in my life and it was on that tour for the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge with Alice In Chains opening for their first album. Was a great show. I was too young to see them with David Lee Roth back then so i saw them with Sammy, i love both era anyway. Keep up the good work guys and cheers from Montreal, Canada!!
This tune is so old… It's hard to believe these two haven't heard this one.
A pound of this and a pound that yes, awesome jam yeah, good show 🤘😆🤘🎸🎸🎤🥁
"Where have ALL the good times gone!!"
The sound of the drill is to simulate a mixer making a cake. A cordless drill worked perfectly.
Pound cake has been my fav. Sammy era Van Halen song and I have NEBER realized about how you said about the “drill” being a metaphor with “poundcake” I can NOT believe I didn’t put those 2 together like you did. And I’ve listened to this song since 1991. Wow
I saw them in concert in August 1991, and needless to say, it was an amazing show! Conveniently, Sammy Hagar happens to be my favorite solo artist of all time, and Van Halen is in my top two favorite bands of all time. ... The album that this song came off of is the third of four Van Halen albums that Sammy was on. In this MTV show, I'm glad to hear that Eddie kept exactly to the album. If you want a real treat, you should watch the official video for this song, there are even a couple famous faces in it other than Van Halen's. ... By the way, Van Halen holds the record for for the most ever number 1 singles, with 11 of them.
One of my favorites ❤
This was my senior year in high school! A drill ? WTF !
Seeing VH live? This is what it was like. They loved being there and so did we! They really connected with the audience.
Either iteration of Van Halen would not have been the same without Michael Anthony. His voice and bass thumping was the glue that held it all together.
Lol metaphor. 🤣 I had the chance to see them late 80’s in Memphis on the Monsters of Rock tour. So awesome. Kingdom Come, Dokken, Scorpions, Metallica and Van Halen.
Awesome band live👍👍👍👍. So sad Eddie has passed, miss him😭😭
As far as VH with Sammy goes, as I’m seeing commented on this thread, to me it is the ultimate example of the apples and oranges analogy….very different, but both of them delicious fruits!
And then you have the Garry Charone edition…which could be compared to a lemon, I suppose, haha!
before pantera would go on stage every night they would say "Lets do it like Van Halen"
The only problem is nobody can do it like Van Halen
Was Dimebags last words. :'(
@@jorritwaleveld55 but you can try
This is true!
You're lucky she just seems so fun to be around
Eddie Van Halen was an absolute progidy on the guitar, no one can play like he did with the inventive style he had
The last great year for rock/metal aside from the Seattle Scene. The difference between musical guests on awards shows and talk shows was staggeringly different from 91 to 92
I think Sammy is one of the greatest singers ever. His songwriting is excellent. He still sounds the same.
I saw this MTV Awards. These people were so lucky to witness such greatness. We will never see another one like EVH never. The era of guitar gods is gone.
Van Halen did not reach their peak until Sammy joined them. A true songwriter and a singer with talent.
💯
VH peaked at Fair Warning
@@rich1965 Hardly. By 5150 Eddie was playing better and they finally got a real songwriter and vocalist.
@@lw3918 I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong. Nothing Sammy did in VH comes anywhere close to VH I and Fair Warning. Full Stop.
@@rich1965 I seen both incarnations live. I've seen Dave solo and Sammy silo. No comparison, Sammy is head and shoulders better. Let's just look at album sales and the billboards. Sorry you lose.
Love this song.
Everybody knows Entenman's, they have a section at the end of the aisle.😂😉
Your comment is under appreciated. 😁
Zany Seinfeld reference.
Sooooo happy for what was, so sad for what could have been ! If management hadn’t have poisoned the friendship ❤️🩹
The drill was first used by Paul Gilbert he actually put three guitar picks on the chuck and played with it
I often comment on these threads that I’ve seen Van Halen 3 times and it wasn't nearly enough!
Sammy Hagar is the coolest down to earth guy in rock n roll. He lives in Cabo Mexico, and has his own liquor drink business and restaurants, and clothing line. He looks chill, and he is chill like a margarita. But when the red rocker is rockin’, he hits you like tequila.
The Mighty Van Halen! You guys should check out songs like Mean Street, I'm the One, Seventh Seal, so many more.
daaaang Eddies Tone on the lead ..... Never heard a better tone ever, I mean for a neck pickup. best Ive ever heard.
Michael Anthony’s backing vocals…💪💪
I wish you did more " Official videos" the video for this one was hilarious
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge always gave me kind of a Women and Children First/Fair Warning kind of vibe. Those are my 2 favorite albums from the Diamond Dave era.
Great band so underrated IMO, you guys are so infectious to, great couple if not already
I love how y’all said that the song wasn’t referencing something (basically) naughty. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and the music was referencing just about everything (sex, drugs and rock and roll)!! Good times!!
The drill trick was done by Paul Gilbert of racer x who actually put 3 or 4 guitar picks on the drill end and played with it
Great review guys thank you
Me and my friend al delago seen them 2 times Dallas 1978 1984.
Sean knows whats up
Sammy is a f’ing legend and deserves way more attention.
Rip Eddy m'y favorite guitare héros i love van Halen
WOW! I actually got the first like and comment in. Good times! :-)
yes! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Imagine you’re in one of the most influential, innovative and talented bands…IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK…and you’re looking to replace a vocalist…. And you have a chance to do that with one of the most entertaining vocalists AND guitarist in the industry….do you thank God or luck?
IMO, Van Hagar was head and shoulders above their contemporaries.
Some fans think there’s an argument in there.
…..note to Wolf HunterZ…starting another argument…
Is Travis the luckiest guy on YT or is Susie the hottest co-host?
Every guy needs some pound cake
Eddie. Period
I don't think they are talking about real cake, but I guess it's up to interpretation. LOL! RIP EVH.
Damn Eddie is so good in this one! I know … he always is but damn !
THE KING !!!! EDDIE RIP
Hey guys
Love hearing you guys with the reactions of Van Halen.
Here’s a request, Van Halen, 1981 Unchained in Oakland CA
David Lee Roth is the vocalist of the band before he was replaced with Sammy Hagar
You’ll love this video
Thanks all
You should react to "Daddy, brother, lover, little boy" from Mr. Big live Back To Budokan ;)
No, Entemans (spelling?) is not local. Might not ne National but I’ve bought it in Vegas and Seattle.
MVP of this song is definitely the powerdrill :D
I love you guys, all of you Travis, Suzie, John and Dolleeee, 😉🤘
Please, please, please who you react to: The Bible Black by Heaven and Hell live from wacken 2009, as this was one on Ronnie last shows before his death, Still amazing to the end. As you guys are, much love for what you do. Martin from England
Susi you would be a pound cake in the best way!
Do you know the drummer in the back is Alex Van Halen
Back when bands played live.. Backing vox and all.
Van Halen - Humans Being (Twist movie soundtrack)
I'm in a band playing the lead triangle
VH 💙🎸
I want some poundcake Sammy
Entemanns is nationwide...at least the lower 48
Entemann's RULES!!!!
entemans is nation-wide
Just like ZZ Top, Entenmann’s is bad and nationwide.
Unlawful carnage and 5150 both kick ass albums
I really think I love Sammy more than Dave. Dave is great but Sammy is magical!! ♥️♥️♥️
That show was stacked: Van Halen. Metallica. Guns n Roses.
I think Eddie was just a frustrated carpenter, so he worked power tools into his monumental music career. 🤣
how many 1/16th notes can you cram into a bar? only Michael Anthony knows for sure.
Yeah the drill's great but I think Sammy's really singing about running his cylinder hone. 😝
Sammy and Michael Anthony were doing chickenfoot
Please react Mr. Big - Daddy Brother Lover Little Boy - Live Tokyo 1991
Sammy fuckim murders this track. Hail hagar!
I am infatuated with Susie
This was era Van Halen grow up
✌🎸🤘🙏
Lol fyi entemanns is a regional brand
This was a great version of this performance. I saw them maybe 4 months later.....not like this
No...Entimens is national!
Well Eddie is the greatest guitar player of all time.
😂
