Van Halen......wow...... incredibile performance.......this tour was incredibile.....i saw the band in Rome....(i'm Italian)....what a Great night....what a honor, listen king Eddie plays his Guitar......
I remember being a kid first learning to play guitar when I saw this performance. I immediately went out to the garage and got my dads power drill. His reaction was exactly the same as y'alls. It was the first time my dad was truly impressed with the sounds coming out of my room. Everyone else HATED it lol. The pickups in an electric guitar will amplify the sound of the drill, and if it's an already distorted signal it's even more gnarly. Brings back memories. Never found a use for it, though. The moment you try you're just reminding everyone that you're NOT Eddie Van Halen.
So glad you like this incarnation of the mighty Van Halen although they are in another stratosphere from Bon Jovi in my estimation. The whole "Right Here, Right Now" live concert of which this vid. is a part is amazing. One seldom requested song from this concert (there was actually footage from 2 concerts in this vid.) is called "in and Out." Long Live the King, EVH, in our hearts and minds!
From this video, Sammy Hagar (vocals) & Michael Anthony (bass) are working together in Sammy Hagar & the Circle. The band... Eddie (guitar) & Alex (drums) Van Halen were in top form in this 1992 concert for the 'For unlawful carnal knowledge' album (or 'f.u.c.k.' 😂🤘) Every song on that record is killer - 'Right now' ... 'Top of the world' ... 'Runaround'... 'Spanked' ... 'Judgement day'... 🤘🤘🔥 R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen 🎸
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is one of my favorite albums of all time, this was the first song. This had some of the best later VH songs IMO, and admitting I'm biased to Sammy's era. But still love all VH
The drill came about by chance. Eddie was in his 5150 studio playing while a soundtech worker was there. Eddie saw the tech's drill on the floor and got curious: how would the power tool sound going through the guitar's pickups? So, he picked up the drill and tried it. And that's that. He incorporated it into the tune that became 'Poundcake'.
Great reaction guys. This is one of the best Sammy Hagar era songs. This song debuted on mtv the day I got back from Myrtle Beach SC after 13 days of partying after High School graduation. Great memories here. The drill in the beginning was representing Eddie's guitar transformation. Up until this point he primarily used a stray style guitar. "Frankenstrat" but not exactly. But this was when he debuted the music man guitar from Ernie ball. Does that make sense? Anyways love this song it was a great album RIP Edward!
Sammy cleaned these guys up and put them on the road to stardom. Roth was an cement block. Seen both singers. Sammy VanHalen was the solid version and Dave was unpredictable version.
Idk how he did it but i know how to play the whole song except that, i brought my drill in the house and scared the hell out of everyone when it sounded like thehouse was exploding lol.
What most people fail to appreciate about Eddie Van Halen’s legendary status is that with every album he improved over his previous one. The sheer talent required to do so decade after decade is staggering.
If you've checked out both the live and studio version of this song. And when Sammy belts out "and you take an average guy" he always references to Michael Anthony( the bass player). Just thought I would pass that along.
I went to see Van Halen in 2012. One of the greatest moments of my life. I remember that even after all these years, I had to walk 15 blocks just to get to the stadium. They shut down the entire highway around the stadium because of it. Amazing night.
For me, this was when VH was at their very peak (with Sammy) and I think it is safe to say that VH was probably the biggest band in the world at this time. They looked great, had toms of energy amd were just a tight band. My wife surprised me with tickets to see them around this time and it was still the best concert Ive ever seen.
The electric drill makes sound through the guitar pickups due to electromagnetic induction. Guitar pickups consist of coils of wire and magnets which is similar to how an electric motor works.
Van Halen was great live. They always had a party onstage and everyone in the audience was a part of party. You should check out a live video with David Lee Roth on vocals: So this is Love or Unchained. Classic VH from the 80s.
The drill was never used against the guitar as it could have ruined the strings, let alone the guitar’s finish. The electromagnet guitar pickups were able to grab the sound of the drill’s motor as the drill is held in close proximity. Makes a cool sound that anyone could do with a corded drill (cordless drills work too, but they start and stop too quickly compared to corded).
Also, check out Daddy, brother, lover, little boy from Mr. Big. It's Paul Gilbert getting Billy Sheehan to join in on bass with the cordless drill too.
@@jomojojo6603 actually Racer X and Mr Big actually put a pick on the drill and used it for speed picking, whereas Eddie discovered the pickup getting interference/hum when the power drill was near the pickup, so it's just the drill noise being amplified, not actually touching the string like in the other case.
Hey Brad, one of my favs too. Checkout the studio recording with those headphones on about 9. The volume and energy Eddie achieved on it may be one of his finest.

I saw five or six shows on this tour and the one after, every show was this good. What an era for this band.
This dang band is incredible live! Listening to them makes me feel good!
Great reaction and do you hear that bass thumping geez Michael you are the heartbeat of van halen.
So underrated! He could sing and play
Love it. You two definitely have beautiful souls.
I love you guys so much! It's always fun kicking it with you two! 👏❤
Totally with Brad on that one. Well done
I went to see Van Halen in 2012. One of the greatest moments of my life. I remember that even after all these years, I had to walk 15 blocks just to get to the stadium. They shut down the entire highway around the stadium because of it. Amazing night.
Lex is a rocker at heart an would have fit in great during its heyday in the 80's .Keep on rocking it 🤘🇨🇦🤘
Such a great song, Mr. Hagar just great and Eddie man...speechless!! I love this song, one of my favourites!!
Van Halen shows were always a blast. Great song choice.
You guys are so special, THANKS FOR BEING YOU!
They were on top of the world for sure.
Yay, Poundcake is one of my fav Van Halen songs
Great song. Good times
The electric drill makes sound through the guitar pickups due to electromagnetic induction. Guitar pickups consist of coils of wire and magnets which is similar to how an electric motor works.
I was super lucky to get tickets to see "Van Hager" twice in the early to mid-90's. Some of the best shows for me of the era.....
For a better representation of the drill sound do the studio version. Only Ed would think of something like that…Genius!!!
Don't you think he maybe got the idea for the drill from Paul Gilbert (Racer X) ?
Also, check out Daddy, brother, lover, little boy from Mr. Big. It's Paul Gilbert getting Billy Sheehan to join in on bass with the cordless drill too.
@@jomojojo6603 actually Racer X and Mr Big actually put a pick on the drill and used it for speed picking, whereas Eddie discovered the pickup getting interference/hum when the power drill was near the pickup, so it's just the drill noise being amplified, not actually touching the string like in the other case.
Yes, I know. that's why I said "got the idea" and I didn't say "ripped off"
@@joelhammond4162 here we go,,, wonder who thunk up a electric .?pickup
Such a great reaction and analysis. You both are awesome. Keep up the good work:)
Lol....its great to see Lex rockin out. She knows what that Poundcakes all bout. Yall do the best reviews out there. Peace
Nothing like a VH concent, its the best!!!! I really miss them and Eddie, they got me through my teens.
Hey Brad, one of my favs too. Checkout the studio recording with those headphones on about 9. The volume and energy Eddie achieved on it may be one of his finest.
I saw Van Halen twice in concert.... so good!
Got to see them in concert, incredible show and Sammie and Michael just love to perform. They are just incredible, RIP Eddie.
Love your reaction Lex. Mad respect for you as a 21st century girl who loves old school rock. They don't make songs like this anymore.
“Home grown and down home…. yea that’s my woman.” I always loved that.
I love Sammy, such a fun guy, and such a roar coming out of him on stage!
Van Halen, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. Saw all 3 live in the 80s!! Great times.
Van Halen is all about having fun !! Their music just puts me in a great mood whenever I hear it !!! keep those Van Halen reactions coming…try. “Beautiful Girls”, “Little Guitars with intro”, “The Dream is over” to name a few….
