I used to walk in Tom Lee Park in Memphis after I got off from work. I would take my Martin acoustic guitar with me and walk up and down the edge of the river @4 times a week. I met a guy a few times who would be grinning ear to ear and would just start vocalizing along with me. Just out instruments being offered to heaven. I remember his voice sounding like the highest quality ingredients cooked just right, then brought back to life and released to Heaven and Earth. He was enthralled by what I was playing on my guitar. Then one day the police wouldn't let anyone near that spot for a few days. The angel I met became an actual angel that day. It was Jeff Buckley, and I was never Jason Cremeans the same way ever again. He was a true artist. He only cares about expressing himself. I'm sure he is teaching angels how to sing today. I hope some day I will find my mom in heaven and take her to meet Jeff and she can hear us play music together if even for a few minutes.

Being a singer that uses "vocal gymnastics" is walking a fine line between sounding talented or pretentious. Jeff 's live performance of his song "Mojo Pin" at the Glastonbury Festival proves he's just plain talented. Look it up here on youtube.
Ummm... He had a hell of the voice. As a songwriter he was way below his father. Too many covers (Lilac Wine, Hallelujah, Corpus Christi Carol), lyrics are more faux-depressive than emotional and lotsa filler. I wore out "Grace" when acquired it but quickly grew bored with it. Grace, Lover, You Should've Come Over and Last Goodbye are standouts, his forays to alternative rock ended up as duds (So Real, Eternal Life) and the rest could be passable. Stuck with his sophomore album with only three meaningful songs (The Sky Is a Landfill, Everybody Here Wants You, Vancouver) and the rest of a throwaway quality, having a hard time coming up with new songs before the tragedy struck. "Grace" remains his career high moment although late vocal acrobatics should've been channelled into something more meaningful.

This song expresses yearning for love that transcends the physical into the spiritual. Advice to lyricists, especially men, to acknowledge this level of vulnerability with specific sacrifices offered directed to the object of past love experienced but not present with hope that it can be, will be satisfied. This makes me cry EVERY time. Well done, Jeff. Thanks for leaving this with us.
Thank you so much for listening to Jeff! I'm glad that you loved him as much as his fans. There will never be anyone with his unique sound ever again. I'm as in love with his music as I was when I first heard it 30 years ago. Seeing your reaction gave me joy.
Having seen Jeff on MTV's 120 minutes when he first came out in the early 90's and living through his death. I can honestly say he's the only musician that I felt a real feeling of grief in regards to "what could have been". Iconic musician. I still haven't heard anyone like him in terms of vocals and musical ability.
Greetings again from Scotland. Thanks for breaking my heart again. And thanks for reacting to this. I'm in a pub drinking beautiful Belgium sour beers and crying my eyes out. Such a sad loss.
The face you make at 16:29 is exactly the face everyone makes at some point during their first listen to JB. I have been dying for you to listen to him, as he's considered one of the greatest vocalists of all time by his peers. In a poll conducted by Mojo magazine (back in the early 2000's) of the greatest vocalists of all time as voted on by famous vocalists, he placed number 34 after only one proper studio album released during his life. He's still considered a huge artist although he wasn't nearly that big during his life, unfortunately, at least here in the states. This performance is from his Chicago show which is available on DVD and highly recommended. You're going to get a ton of people telling you various live performances to check out and you should. His cover of "The Way Young Lovers Do" from his first EP is stunning, but stick to his originals when you can because he was an incredible writer/guitarist along with vocalist. Also of note, on that list of greatest vocalists, Jeff's dad, Tim Buckley ranked #41 - famous for his 5 1/2 octave range, he would be an entirely different rabbit hole to explore after you've exhausted this one. I'm just so excited you finally got around to listening to JB - I have his autograph on a magazine in a frame and it's one of my prized possessions. Jeff is one of one - you're right, you'd have remembered hearing him before. Thank you for the content and please keep exploring these older artists from the 90's - I love hearing your thoughts and seeing you react to them.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Top of my list, for sure. The backing vocals on the studio version are particularly haunting and unique. I once heard Jeff's music described as a fever dream - something both beautiful and unsettling at the same time. Wonderful analysis!
I really appreciate how you let the various passages play through before you offer your reaction. the flow of the performance can be as moving as the performance itself. well done!

He inspired so many famous musicians - a lot of people who arent familiar with him usually have no idea. Even singers like Robert Plant will say they saw mild altering live performances from him. Such a great loss. I used to be obsessed with him when i was singing in a choir. Discovering him was like an "oh wowwww" moment. His biological father Tim Buckley was an amazing singer too.
he was amazing, he was not afraid to go there vocally where others could find it embarrassing or weird...one of a kind...my heart breaks every time again and again when I listen to him , such a loss thank you for this video
Chris Cornell said he would watch Jeff from the wings in awe, watching tough guys in flannel who showed up to rock out wiping tears away. He wrote this song about an older woman he fell in love with that broke his heart, she was at a different point in life and she cut it off. But we got this song, so thank you to that woman.
He is the best. Unique vocal ability. The songs from his only album marked my adolescence. It's been 30 years ☺️. Due to a tragedy he had a very short career. Thank you for your comments.
This intro of LYSHCO is inconic for me and I can play it in my sleep, dark room, eyes closed. It is the best live adlib over an incredibly produced studio song ever. This is true craftsmanship on display and his voice is another class.
We’re watching her fall in love on camera! Also, don’t forget to give Jeff some credit for singing that well while playing; no idea how humans do that.
He's my favorite singer of all time. There are technically superior singers - although Jeff Buckley's technical singing is phenomenal - but he also packs so much emotion into that gorgeous voice. I tear up every time I hear him.
I just want to say I love your videos, and when this popped up I played it straight away because this is by far my favorite song ever. Anyhow, watching you get excited about dissecting each and every sound is just a beautiful thing. Jeff Buckley gives me goosebumps. Every time. Keep putting out great content!
He's the GOAT! I've been waiting for you to discover Jeff and I know I was one of the ones to tell you to check out this performance. Check out this whole concert! You just heard a little bit of his range in this song. This song makes me tear up every time. Thank you thank you thank you for breaking this one down and I can't wait for the next one. ❤
What an incredible vocal/emotional range, from tender longing to fiery passion - even the tonal imperfections lent themselves to a sense that this was an intimate conversation imagined through the pain.
Great observation about the improvising. He did a lot of improvising with his voice and guitar in live performances, and used alternative tunings for his guitar. It’s been 30 years since this album came out and nothing sounds like it. This guy fell out of some exotic universe and made some really unique music.
A deep dive into JB doesn't take much, as sadly, there isn't much.(unless you get into live bootlegs and such) But from what little there is, if you let yourself go and immerse yourself in it, you'll get 30 albums worth of reward from it. What a talent he was.
Jeff is litterally a gold mine of music, once I discovered his music, you just want more, you just want to hear all. The crazy thing is that all live songs were expressed so differently, on purpose, so much of the same songs made differently. The strong dark "So Real", could sound etheral in his live at Frankfurt. The Halellujah well known song could sound like an haunting song in is live in Paris. And doing his own versions of well known songs, and making it completely differently, making it his songs. The "Calling You" from Badgad Café from Jeff, is beautiful The "Je n'en connais pas la fin" of Piaf, is made like a romantic "ritournelle" Grace is musical work of its own. I litterally got addicted to his music, his universe. It is so sad we lost him so soon.. the sketch of his second album is just the proof that he could just be in every genre of the music spectrum. But what he left, oh man, is so worth listening.
Jeff is beyond. He touches feelings i didn't know i had. He takes me really deep into myself. He touches your soul with everything he has, voice, poetry, soul, body. He just dives in you, because he dives into himself. Gracely amazing.
I had the privilege of seeing him live in Asbury Park, NJ back in the early 90's. His bandmates got lost and he did a show all by himself and it was magical. Just him and a guitar. There was only about 20 of us there and I'll never forget it, I was a fan from that moment on.
Jeff was a master musician and vocalist, the amount of nuance and variety he adds in each vocal performance is astounding! You really get a good grasp of how flawlessly he moves through different sounds and styles when you try and sing his music for yourself. Every live performance is a completely different take even when he plays the same songs, a true artist. Great reaction 💯

Wow. You never asked him his name when you were singing together?
@tommymas1 he probably did. He didn't tell us it was jeff until he got to the point he found out the man had died.
It would have ruined the story if we knew it was jeff.
He has an awesome story. Can't imagine
Yeah, when someone says they think they’ve heard Jeff Buckley, they probably haven’t! Such a wild and beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautiful face. He’s one of the few celebrity deaths that will haunt me to the end of my days.
I so agree!!!
I vividly remember how I felt finding out he was missing after going into the water and I knew logically he was gone, but still foolishly hoped for a miracle. It devastated teenage me 💔

Being a singer that uses "vocal gymnastics" is walking a fine line between sounding talented or pretentious. Jeff 's live performance of his song "Mojo Pin" at the Glastonbury Festival proves he's just plain talented. Look it up here on youtube.
Well put.
One of the most under appreciated artists of the last 30 years
Absolutely
LOL! Contrarian postmodernist sophistry is so popular these days proving how stupid we as a society are becoming.
@@patrickghirardi83 well, I don't use 10 dollar words as much as you, but it seems stupid to even bother commenting your frustrations with society on a RUclips reaction video, I wonder what that says about you
@@wloonie Epic wanted it to be an album of covers but he managed to sneak in original compositions.
He's such an unacknowledged beast of talent. It's almost criminal.
Thanks for leaving this with us.
this video made me sob in shambles on my couch 😭 i’ve never seen this live performance
This from the “Live in Chicago” DVD. Well worth it if you can find a copy.
Thank you so much for listening to Jeff! I'm glad that you loved him as much as his fans. There will never be anyone with his unique sound ever again. I'm as in love with his music as I was when I first heard it 30 years ago. Seeing your reaction gave me joy.
Every Jeff Buckley fans:
"If you liked the beginning...wait to hear his voice at the end of the song" 🤭
🎯😎
At 04:36 you accidentally channelled Buckley: "Le-eeeets ..."
I love it.
Fully agree except on the accidentally part. She knows exactly how to get there 🙌
I've been listening to this song and album for 30 years. Hauntingly beautiful!!
Dream Brother from this same gig. He warms his voice up on stage. Grace live NPA Paris 95 or the BBC one is unbelievable
Definitely echo that "Grace" from the BBC Late Show is a must watch/react.
Greetings again from Scotland. Thanks for breaking my heart again. And thanks for reacting to this. I'm in a pub drinking beautiful Belgium sour beers and crying my eyes out. Such a sad loss.
Grace, Last Goodbye and Hallelujah. You'll never forget Jeff Buckley.
Thank you for the content and please keep exploring these older artists from the 90's - I love hearing your thoughts and seeing you react to them.
this is my favorite Buckley song
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever
Seems like he was a king of taking his voice to an uncontrollable place and quickly bringing it back into control.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Top of my list, for sure. The backing vocals on the studio version are particularly haunting and unique. I once heard Jeff's music described as a fever dream - something both beautiful and unsettling at the same time. Wonderful analysis!
I really appreciate how you let the various passages play through before you offer your reaction. the flow of the performance can be as moving as the performance itself. well done!
“Everybody Here Wants You” Was So, So Soulful. It Was R&B. It Was A Slow Dance. It Was One Of A Handful Of Songs I Heard & Instantly LOVED It. Still In My Top 10 All Time. Please Listen. Windows Down. At Sunset.
The way I was in tears listening to him again. I'm glad you enjoyed him. Loved seeing your reaction.
"Mind altering.. his voice; spectacular singing and so much conviction."( Robert Plant) 0:41 ruclips.net/video/n0kUK4IoWqQ/видео.html
Jeff Buckley would have been a superstar had he lived. Grace is an incredible piece of work. One of the best albums ever created. ❤
I agree 100%
She's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever!....RIP Jeff Buckley!.
It's about time. He's one of my all-time favorites!
he was amazing, he was not afraid to go there vocally where others could find it embarrassing or weird...one of a kind...my heart breaks every time again and again when I listen to him , such a loss thank you for this video
Jeff Buckley rewired my brain big time. I was crying constantly for a whole month when I discovered him.
Jeff’s the best, ever. His voice is so hauntingly beautiful, like a tortured angel.
Jeff simply sing directly to your soul
Chris Cornell said he would watch Jeff from the wings in awe, watching tough guys in flannel who showed up to rock out wiping tears away. He wrote this song about an older woman he fell in love with that broke his heart, she was at a different point in life and she cut it off. But we got this song, so thank you to that woman.
Elizabeth frazier?
@@DelilaSloan That sounds right.
This is genuinely the first 'reaction' video I've watched. You do it credit. Thanks.
I continue to regard this as one of the most romantic love songs out there - damn pity to have lost him so young - he was one of the greats 🥹
Grace 🙏
I can't get to hear Buckley again for the 1st time, so I really treasure these reactions!
There are many that do, but this song by Jeff just turns on my eye sprinklers. It’s a transcendent piece of music and his voice is otherworldly. 😢
Absolutely it is transcendent.
Buckley was a big influence on a number of vocalists, both of that time period and also more recent artists like Ren.
The first time I heard Yellow by Coldplay, I about died and thought it was a lost JB song. Chris Martin says Jeff is a huge influence.
We’re watching her fall in love on camera! Also, don’t forget to give Jeff some credit for singing that well while playing; no idea how humans do that.
One of the most amazing concerts ever... his voice was from another universe...
"ive heard this a million times, im not gonna cry at an ANALYSIS of it, jeez, get real"
also me at the "it's never over" lines:
never heard him before ,but his music was pleasant enough too drink my coffee with, thanks for sharing the vid.
You're DEFINITELY missing out...
This is an outstanding performance and recording. Sorry to be all geeky, but it makes this live recordist’s heart smile.
He's my favorite singer of all time. There are technically superior singers - although Jeff Buckley's technical singing is phenomenal - but he also packs so much emotion into that gorgeous voice. I tear up every time I hear him.
Yes. All of this. 💯❤
I just want to say I love your videos, and when this popped up I played it straight away because this is by far my favorite song ever. Anyhow, watching you get excited about dissecting each and every sound is just a beautiful thing. Jeff Buckley gives me goosebumps. Every time. Keep putting out great content!
The lyrics are extraordinary as well...
"Shes the tear that hangs inside my soul forever"......👌
My all time favorite. He has such raw power and trnderness, at the same time, it' mindblowing.
Nice to see someone genuinely interested in the music , unlike other reactions.
A deep dive into JB doesn't take much, as sadly, there isn't much.(unless you get into live bootlegs and such) But from what little there is, if you let yourself go and immerse yourself in it, you'll get 30 albums worth of reward from it. What a talent he was.
Jeff was the most tragic loss in music history....he had so much more to give.
The "Calling You" from Badgad Café from Jeff, is beautiful
The "Je n'en connais pas la fin" of Piaf, is made like a romantic "ritournelle"
Grace is musical work of its own.
I litterally got addicted to his music, his universe.
It is so sad we lost him so soon.. the sketch of his second album is just the proof that he could just be in every genre of the music spectrum.
But what he left, oh man, is so worth listening.
Everything you said, seconded. 🎯
What an absolute musical genius..... it's so sweet to see you falling in love with it ❤ it touches your soul so deeply....he will be forever missed
Every live show he changed. He was so talented and creative
4:38 Buckley’s contagious 😊
Loved watching. The listener in me is happy you let some verses play before jumping into it.
Jeff is beyond. He touches feelings i didn't know i had. He takes me really deep into myself. He touches your soul with everything he has, voice, poetry, soul, body. He just dives in you, because he dives into himself. Gracely amazing.
The BEST singer of all time without question. She is speachless.
Her reaction really seems genuine. She is transfixed ❤
Nothing like listening to someone share knowledge about something they truly know so much about. Like watching NFL players break down the intricacies of the game that we don't notice. Humanity is full of talent and complexity and wisdom... might as well share it and appreciate it all :)
Yesss! More Jeff please! Such a beautiful voice and a true gift to the music world 🫶🏻
She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever. How many people can relate to this simple, but profound statement of lost love? Brilliant.
I had a friend who was totally obsessed with him, and she was the one who got me interested in Jeff...and his dad.
This is still one of my favourites, and I love your reaction to this one!
I’m so happy you did this video. I commented a while back hoping you would do a video of him. He’s my favorite of all time.
Also you may have heard of his father, folk singer Tim Buckley
“As the shoes fill up with water” is a terrible foreshadowing
Gosh why’d you have to say that.
Same with lyrics from “Dream Brother.”
