Thank you. I appreciate you geeking out here. My 19yo daughter has just come home from uni (her first year) and announced with a giggle that she’s got all her friends there into Jeff Buckley.
Jeff was a fan of artist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a Sufi singer, who possibly inspired him in his falsetto style. Jeff had a diverse vocal range, from the harshness of havy metal to opera.
Love seeing people who really know music react to jeff for the first time that man was a once in a lifetime artist. Would love to see you react to his version of dido lament that was my holy grail jeff song when i first heard it. Not many people would try to sing it live
Yes, the way young lovers do at sin e showcases both his singing and guitar work. he scats and really shows what he's vocally capable of. His voice is so good that many don't notice how proficient he is at guitar. That's a testament to how good his voice is but this song displays his great guitar work too.
A once in a lifetime artist. He sang each song differently every time. His version of this from Chicago is just as extraordinary and versatile. Hope to see you do more Jeff songs.
You should have a look at a duet he did, All The Flowers Bend Towards The Sun, which also features, Elizabeth Fraser. Vocalist with The Cocteau Twins, sometimes she is referred to as, "The Voice Of God". Often she sings in a sort of personal language, She'll blow you away.

The voice, the guitar, the lyrics and creativity. Jeff had it all. Heaven couldn't wait any longer to have him. RIP There was definitely something other worldly about him.
Lucky enough to see him perform a couple of times and he really was that good. Not only had that voice, his guitar playing was wonderful, and was even lighthearted and amusing too. So sorry he passed at such an early stage of his career.
I've see THIS performance on youtube dozens of times. It leaves such a bitter taste. He passed at 30, his father died at 28. Both with such unrealised potential.
Great to see you reacting to the late great, Jeff Buckley, Aaliyah!😊 I think I was first introduced to him when I was in college, which would have been a few years after his passing. A superb talent gone too soon, truly 🥰 I remember when I first bought his album 'Grace'; I just sat on my dorm room floor with headphones on, and listened to the album the whole way through about 6-7 times that day! 😄😊 I guess you could say that I was truly mesmerised by what I heard 😁🥰
He has an interesting voice. Didn't know if i was gonna like it, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Difinantly has a diverse range. Great song and as always, great reaction.😀 P.S. your reaction at 10:22 was priceless. 😂
Great video, have subscribed and look forward to seeing more reactions! You made some really cool insights and links to classical which an untrained eye does not see, don't feel like you have to justify sharing! It's very interesting to us buckley fans!!!
I don't think of myself as a huge Jeff Buckley fan or anything, but his performance of Grace, live on the BBC, is phenomenal. It really showcases him at his vocal best. If you're interested in reacting to another one of his songs, that'd be a great choice. Also, perhaps check out the live version of "Mojo Pin" from Chicago when you get a chance. His vocal flourishes are different and more impressive, I think, than the Glastonbury performance. I always enjoy your content. Keep doing what you do.
His performance of Grace live on NPA is even better, respectfully. He's emotionally stressed on the BBC one because the host compares Jeff to his absent father and you can tell by his mood (and Jeff flipping his middle fingers in the introduction). The NPA version is more creative, has a better live sound, an actual live audience which the whole band feels + reacts to and Jeff is free... doing his vocal improv at his peak. And that's what made him even more special. So just my opinion, BBC is fine because it's Jeff Buckley but Grace Live on NPA is as they say - "Chef's Kiss." 👌 Thank you Aaliyah. This was both fun and I learned something about baroque music at the same time. 👍 Love from Ukraine. ♥
@@MindAlteringHugs I respectfully disagree about the NPA performance. I had a similar interaction with another person in the YT comments who had the same opinion, so I listened to them back to back. I think "emotionally distressed" is a bit, at least, of an exaggeration. He was probably mildly annoyed at most. I also don't think he flipped the middle fingers in the intro. It looks more to me like he throws his hands in the air as if to say, sarcastically, "hooray! I love being compared to my father!". The ending of the NPA performance seems really disjointed to me. The same little vocal riff he ends the BBC performance with seems placed in an awkward spot near the end (but not at the very end) of the NPA performance. Like he thought, "oh yeah, I need to include that before I finish". If you find the NPA performance video with the intro in French, go to the 5 minute mark of that video and watch till the end. Then watch the BBC performance from that verse on. The vocal transitions in the BBC performance seem way more clean to me. Anyway, the NPA performance is good, but, to me, the BBC performance is the one that is practically flawless.
@@g3synth205Stressed not "distressed". Important difference. And please I don't want to pretend like I knew what is going on in this guy's head or what or what he was thinking about what verse because that is pure crazy. Божевільний! I just said he was flipping off the BBC and their host with 2 middle fingers in one and had his wings in another. I also disagree about the vocal riff whatever you are talking about. In my 20 years of watching that, it wasn't even a vocal riff it was Jeff Buckley. That's how flawlessly it works. You listen to 1000 versions and that's the beauty. He did not think. He flew.
You should look for his version of the Purcell Opera Aria - Didos Lament! It’s a live recording and rare but a search on RUclips you’ll find it and I think you’ll be mesmerised
I only discovered him in the early 00's, grew to love his music in a couple of months, only to be heartbroken to learn of his earlier passing. Regardless, I'm glad to have discovered him when I did, and love covering some of his popular hits in karaoke.
Jeff Buckley - I know it’s over, Live at Sony studios, in New York. Give that a listen if you want to hear inside this man’s soul 😭 probably one of his best performances.
Your "geek" attitude toward voice, which is cleary your passion and blessing, was very refreshing. Thanks for sharing your reaction to one of my favorite singers of all time. Also great to see the new generation of musicians are free of boundaries and open-minded about different genres of music (classical, jazz, rock and so on). Music is one, after all
Wonderful reaction, welcome to Jeff. Grace, Lover you should have come over, Morning theft, Moodswing whiskey and so many more worth checking out, Such a talent and such a tragic loss
First your trill was good do more of that! And second glad you realized not just technical skills but the emotion he’s putting in 100% and listeners connect to that which is so important. His album Grace you can just get lost in it!
Jeff died 2 years after this concert whilst swimming in either the Mississippi or Tennessee river. Can’t remember which. His two most famous songs were Grace and Hallelujah. His father Geoff Buckley was also a great musician who also died way too young. RIP both of you.
He is the best. Unique vocal ability. The songs from his only album marked my adolescence. It's been 30 years ☺️. Due to a tragedy he had a very short career. Thank you for your comments.
😮..can't say i Heard of this Talented Gent...But I did Dig his little Concerto..in the Beginning...And I'm Almost Reminded of Chris Isaac When he Sings.l😊
Hi Aaliyah, seeing as you’re an amazing vocalist I’d be keen to hear your reaction to the opening of Dream Brother also from his Glastonbury performance. It’s a long song but his intro to it with his vocals is unbelievable
Jeff Buckley and his father Tim Buckley both released some of the most beautiful music and each possessed a haunting voice. Both died much too early, Tim at the age of 28 and Jeff at the age of 30. If you are not familiar with Tim Buckley, I suggest you check him out when you can. Might I suggest "Song to the Siren" as a great starting point.
I would suggest his What Will You Say, Live at the Südbahnhof. That's such an amazing song. And his only album, Grace, is the one album I would choose if I only could listen to just one album for the rest of my life.
Thank you for this video, I really appreciated seeing you actually feeling the music. And the "little things" you pointed out, his intonations and his conviction, how tonaly rich his voice sounds - I'm really happy that there is someone who shares my excitement about this, instead of making just superficial/basic or cliche statements Now, look, I know everyone and their dog has recommended you another Jeff's song, blah blah, and you probably won't read this. But if you do - hear me out real quick. These moments/riffs/techniques you mentioned that peaked your excitement - I know exactly what you mean. And listen, there is one other song from this concert, What Will You Say (Glastonbury). The "switch" as you called it he does in that performance and the notes he reaches and just the general beauty of the song - it's mind-altering. I adore all Jeff's songs, but the Glastonbury performance of What Will You Say is surely the most powerful. What I'm saying is, just check it out, just for yourself, without making a video or whatever. The run he does at 4:30 is the most beautiful vocal piece of music I've heard in my life, and I listen to A LOT of music. Literary brings me to tears still, and I'm a 36 year old man, living a hard life haha)
Jeffs dead far too early was one of the biggest loss in music history. The todays music scene would possibly have a completely different face if he is still with us. But we should not forget his great father, the ingenious singer/songwriter Tim Buckley, also gifted with an unusual great voice and composing skills. Greatings from germany, I still miss them both.
You should check out Mike Patton. He has so many projects, but mostly known for Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. He's been said to have the widest vocal range of any vocalist out there in the history of music. It's a rabbit hole worth going down! I'd start with Midlife Crisis from Faith No More, then maybe From Out Of Nowhere by the same. Then maybe try Quote Unquote from Mr. Bungle.😉
Hello Aaliyah, have you reacted to Home Free’s When A Man Loves A Woman? Being that you are an amazing singer, I would love your reaction and take on this request. Thank you!
he was a unique genius. influenced a generation of people , bands, musicians, who we all know now.

'Forget Her' and 'Lover You Should've Come Over' were always my favourite Jeff Buckley songs. He was pretty fantastic. 👍
'Lover You Should Have Come Over' is god-like. Both in the writing and performance.

On the Live at Sin e recording of Mojo Pin ( no video just audio) at 4 minutes he hits the greatest note that's ever been hit.

Hmm....there's a note he hits on The Way Young Lovers Do from the same album, that is outrageous.
An angel came to the Glastonbury stage and sang.
I wish I was old enough to have been there at the time, this man dominates my playlists, unfortunately I wasn't aware of him until 2005.

Thanks so much for sharing💕
What a great reaction to a fantastic performance.
Thank you so much!💕
And now you need to hear Live From Sin E "The way young lovers do"
since you mentioned baroque ornamentation, check out his version of Dido's lament.
Died far too young. The potential he had. RIP Jeff
😢
Some of the best musicians came from that period. It was guitar and voice.
🥰
I would suggest his What Will You Say, Live at the Südbahnhof. That's such an amazing song. And his only album, Grace, is the one album I would choose if I only could listen to just one album for the rest of my life.
Quit calling yourself a nerd! You’re perfect!
thanks for your kind words
His mother is a classical pianist and he was exposed to classical music growing up. He was known for his wide ranging musical tastes and influences.
A performance I think that you would really like is Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark 2006. A great song.
Thanks for sharing
One of the greatest rock singers of all time. Died way too young.
😔😔😔
Thank you for this video, I really appreciated seeing you actually feeling the music. And the "little things" you pointed out, his intonations and his conviction, how tonaly rich his voice sounds - I'm really happy that there is someone who shares my excitement about this, instead of making just superficial/basic or cliche statements
Now, look, I know everyone and their dog has recommended you another Jeff's song, blah blah, and you probably won't read this.
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment, share and make recommendations. Much appreciated💕
Chills head to toe, even the fuckteenth time I've heard the song. Inspired. Brillant. Never pretentious. Incomparable.
😊
Nice to see another generation discover Jeff Buckley's voice...
You should check out his version of Dido's lament
lover you should come over
🌺🌺🌺
I love you! I got here from being a Buckley fan! Have you heard his version of Dido's Lament?
Thanks so much, i believe i have not heard it yet🌺
@@AaliyahCapili I'd love to know what you think when you do! The audio is so low quality, but I feel his voice still shines!
If you haven’t already done it, check out Queen’s Freddie Mercury duet with opera singer Monserrat Caballe… “Barcelona”

Have you considered reacting to Yma Sumac singing 'Chuncho'? Or 'When I am Laid in Earth' sung by Jessye Norman? Both thoroughly impressive.
Thanks for the recommendation
Ciao cara Aaliyah!🤗 Mi piace molto questo video, sei meravigliosa, unica e speciale!😍💞🌷
Thank you so much🥰
another live version of mojo pin

Please listen to GRACE from jeff when you can ✌🏼
indeed we want more of this amazing singer
Thanks for the recommendation
Please listen to his version of hallelujah! 😊

Thanks so much for sharing😔
@@AaliyahCapili Thank you, my dear! I really belive that we will have more great music than we have now if Jeff would be still with us!
I can't believe you don't know him... 🤣🤣😘🤣
Please react to: Jeff Buckley - Grace | BBC | The Late Show | London | 1/17/1995 | HD
You will love it.

Try nyo po yung " Lover's You shouldn't come over" by jeff buckley..
Bungle.😉
