Lover, You Should've Come Over is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard
Now I have to listen to it.

@@DarkAsylum21 yes I did.
@@choppacoppachocotaco8243 Nicccccccce
100%.
If I could bring one person back from the dead it would more than likely be Jeff Buckley.
You're lucky you never lost anyone
For sure, compared to the other legends in rock that was lost early, he to me is the one with the most unrealized artistic potential. Grace is one of the better art/alternative rock records of all time, and that was his debut. It's quite depressing.
Layne all day
@@tylersanders5622 Layne was a phenomenal singer, but not the biggest of songwriters though. The AiC catalogue from the 90's is pretty extensive too. But I feel you, he had the perfect voice for that heavy and melancholic style of rock/metal.
I would bring Freddy Mercury but it's a tough matchup ^^
25 year anniversary of Grace today
Aww! 💕 RIP Jeff, you will always be missed 💔
Yessss
Such a strange death.
: (
“Hi, my name is Sam Johnson and today is going to be a great day.”
I wouldn’t hit snooze to that.
Oh wow I'm so stoked you're doing Jeff Buckley...he's one of my all time favs
Same :D
Ditto! 😊🤩
Same, i hope he does more reactions of him
Same here. Jeff Buckley is just WOW.
Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye, is one of the best songs ever made.
Omg yes!!
I agree, - and also think the same of Lover, You Should've Come Over ❤
It destroys me every time. So does his cover of lilac wine.
Civil Villain my all-time fave 🙌
This proves what a great song writer he was. All these favorites!!!
One of the greatest rock vocalists, spot on. I think a lot of vocalists who came after owe a lot to Jeff, especially guys like Matt Bellamy and Thom Yorke. Jeff really specialised in a fragile-sounding, emotionally loaded style. Beautiful to witness.
3 awesome singers...
Um Radiohead recorded their first album before Jeff
Both thom and Matt were inspired by Buckley. Pretty sure thom recorded fake plastic trees in one take after watching Buckley live.
@@iamsheep And Thom's style definitely evolved from Pablo Honey onwards.
Um no.. Freddie Mercury and several others are much much much more talented vocalist. Jeff sounds rough here IMO. Like a even worse Eddie Vedder (who is overrated.. terrible live)
Jeff Buckley’s Grace is my favorite album of all time. Every song is great. Lover, You Should’ve Come Over is my favorite song. What a shame, we lost such a great talent so young
Always hard to choose a favourite but "Lover, You Should've Come Over" is probably also my favourite from the Grace album. That, and Hallelujah.
I cry every time i listen to Lover, You Should’ve Come Over ❤️
I LOVE that song. The build is one of the best ever.
So real is the song that hooked me when i first listened to grace/ jeff Buckley. When I thought he said "blow that whistle, please. 😭
Same. No album will ever compare.
I LOVE Jeff Buckley! I love how he uses his voice as an instrument. I wish he was still with us.
He's with us as long as we remember his work.
He was genius, his voice had so much fluidity and it was a sad day when he left the world.
Where did he go? I wanna leave the planet too.
@@bluelambo5 he drowned in 1997 at 30 years old. He and his band were supposed to start recording new material.
@@swanqueen They had already started. "My sweetheart the Drunk".
Rod Hubbard actually Jeff said they were going “ burn those fucking tapes”
Derek are u good?
This was so lovely to watch, though I teared up because Jeff still breaks my heart after all this time. He almost seemed a bit out of synch in the world, like he didn't quite belong here. Seeing you scramble for words to describe him was an utter delight and I even laughed a bit! Some people are failed by words, thankfully Jeff's art speaks for him.
I like when he said " oh my gosh he is really good " . Welcome to Jeff Buckley's fandom my friend
My teen crush 😍 what a voice. Just reminded me of a fight my sister and I had, she drew a moustache on my Jeff Buckley and Shannon Hoon/Blind Melon posters so I retaliated by drawing male anatomy on the foreheads of all her Stephen Dorff posters. Much hair was pulled that day. I think mum threw a bucket of water over us to break it up 😂 aaah the good ole days
Kellie O'Connell, That sounds like my sisters and I in our younger years lol. For that reason, and understandably, our Parents said we had to buy our own posters to waste. 😂 We fought constantly! Alot of good memories like you said.
that's peak 90s
@@leiannesw4926 lol I had a Jeff Buckley poster next to my Faith No More and Alice in Chains posters hehe. Layne Staley another great voice lost.
😂
Jeff had great technique and a beautiful voice. He left a huge hole in the music world when he died.
I love Jeff Buckley because he can shift his vocal technique to fit a wide variety of genres and it sounds honest and real. He does rock grunge (Grace), Soulful (Lilac Wine), angelic operatic (Corpus Christie), alternative (Last Goodbye), and everything else in between (The Man That Got Away). Most artists mainly stick with one or maybe two different types of genres. Jeff Buckley did it all and did it well.
"i think thats one of the best vocal performances i've ever seen" - enough said. doesn't need to change a thing. imperfections create perfection.
I love Jeff Buckley ❤️💞
Thank you so much reacting to Jeff on the 25th anniversary of Grace. He was so amazing and it’s so nice to see that he’s still remembered and admired by a lot of people ❤️
Finally. Someone picks the right live Grace clip. This performance was great and arguably the best footage of Jeff live. Kudos to whoever produced this TV show and Sam for putting up with the less vocally mix. (Which I LOVE)
The BBC version is a better recording though
I loved this so much. All the smiles on your face watching Jeff sing was the best. Falling for his music in my late teens, he became a huge influence on my own vocal abilities as well. There will be no one like him.
Just seeing his name gave me goosebumps! He holds a special place
in my heart, so I'm really happy to hear your thoughts about his technique.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
MORE JEFF PLEASE
Your eyes are just so lovely and cheery. I saw this Buckley title and I’m stoked, I have a soft spot for his voice.
And he also played amazing lead guitar with his phenomenal vocals.
Dude this channel rules, Jeff Buckley is magical even live...great job
Even live? Especially live lol
I love your channel Brendan great stuff
Jeff Buckley was taken from us far too soon...I miss him :( amazing music always, helps me relax.
Grace was so important to me when I was in college...this is around 2000-2004 I listened to it nonstop on repeat as I went through all kinds of growth and changes and heartbreaks and emotions and upheavals...it is still incredible start to finish, I don't skip any songs and know every word and every note of each. Thank you for this
Jeff voice was just a guitar, and he knew that and become a ''guitarist'' virtuoso, he mastered his instrument how he wanted, that's why it's very unique and ''weird'' lol
Chris Cornell did the same to some extent too, miss them both... ❤😭
That reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald, who also saw her voice as just another instrument, and that’s why she did such unusual things with it. You can hear her moving her voice in ways most people don’t, because of the way she thought of her voice.
I miss them both too. Chris Cornell is still my most favourite rock voice
Could you please react to Florence Welch's best live vocals? It would be awesome to hear your perspective on her techniques.
oh, I would love to see this happen, too!!
Yes! That would be amazing!
but please pick some newer videoes, too, as she has improved a lot - for example 100 Years on Later...with Jools.
Florence is the QUEEN!
An immortal performer.
Have you ever analysed one of Regina Spektor's performances? "Open" at the Live Room or "Après moi" in London really showcase her beautiful tone and the versatile voice quirks she adds to emphasize emotion.
YESSSS I LOVE REGINA SPEKTOR
I THINK WE HAVE THE SAME FREAKING MUSIC TASTE
One of the greatest artists ever to walk the earth - RIP
I love that you waited for him to finish “goes so slow” before pausing. Thank you, that moment should never be paused. Lol.
This man blows my mind. I hear his music and feel intense love and gratitude, followed by intense sadness.. I wish we could have been graced with more of his beautiful music
His "vibrato" is more like an impact drill.
Thank you, this was the one I was waiting for. Maybe Mike Patton next?
Seconding this, Mike Patton is exceptional 🤯
Please react to Jeff Buckley - Lover you should have come over (Live). The version on Jeff Buckley Music (RUclips Channel)
obvious request here but just jeff buckley hallelujah, it is truly magical and the best cover of that song ever made (as im sure you know already with how popular it is)
I've always wanted to hear a thorough analysis of Jeff's voice. Thank you for making this video!
Whenever I see someone smile or react positively to Jeff I always grin like a proud parent or something
Ahhhh squealing!!! FINALLY. I love Jeff so much. His bbc performance of grace is my favorite. & all of live in Chicago.
Jeff is one of my faves. I love singing and playing Grace.
I love listening to Grace cause I'm not a good enough singer or guitarist to perform it
Thank you for doing Jeff Buckley. You have such a friendly and calm presence. Love your channel.
His music hits me in the feels, sooooo talented. Omg I’ve been waiting for you to do this. Incredible vocal range and vibrato. He was so talented and amazing, thanks Sam!!
Thank you for reacting to Jeff! 😁I've been really waiting for this
Jeff Buckley was an American singer and songwriter who died at the age of 30 in 1997. Sadly he only released one studio album before dying: Grace. If you haven't heard it I definitely recommend it. Listening to Jeff's voice and the emotions he can convey through it it's a whole new experience.
"Cocteau Twins", please. And "Geneva".
THANK YOU I've been waiting forever for your take on Jeff Buckley's live performances. PLEASE do more, this was is such an insightful experience
God, that first strum in Grace was so goddamn emotional for me, I nearly cried. One note and it’s like I’m suddenly back in my teenage room, 15 all over again. Jeff Buckley meant so much to that teenage girl. He still does to the woman she grew up to be, but he was there for that angsty teenage nerve-wreck in ways no one else really was. Thanks, Jeff!
I’ve been hoping for this for so long! I love Jeff Buckley. Thank you! ❤️😃
Same!
he had an amazing voice. i got into him in 97, didnt realise he had just died . cant think of anyone similar to him. he would of been so huge by now. so im glad even 20 years later, he isnt forgotten, but lauded for his talent.
Thank you so much for analysing Grace. I think I asked for this when your channel first started (along with so many other people). He was such a huge talent, and it is a huge shame that we will never get to see what else he would have gifted us with. Thanks again, Sam.
I love him too
I llistened to every version of Leonard Cohen"s Hallelujah. Jeff Buckleys is by far my favorite.
Marjorie Goforth Check out KD Lang’s version from the Olympics. It’s amazing! ❤️
@@melaniehorner6540 I loved her version at the Olympics that was beautiful. I was recently listening to her sing this song. I thought you may like it too. I think it's amazing
Oops forgot to paste it. ruclips.net/video/tv7S8v3rM-U/видео.html
Marjorie Goforth Thank you, I’d not heard her sing this before. Beautiful! Also, I only found out very recently she was on MTVs unplugged. Don’t know how I never knew that 🤷🏻♀️
@@melaniehorner6540 My favourite.
I was wondering when you'd get around to Jeff! Super excited you did, and I love your reaction! 💜 After all these years, he's still one of my favorite vocalists of all time.
Love JB. So great folks who don't know him will hear him through this ❤️ Think he got his heavy bridging sound from imitating Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Magpie I was going to mention this too since Jeff was such an admirer and follower of NFAK
@@ljpjcg yes Jeff was such a big admirer; that's what lead to me becoming a fan of NFAK myself!
React to Jeff Buckley mojo pin live in Chicago
Yas please
Also...much better audio recording with that one.
I’d say the Glastonbury version is better, but the Chicago recording is great too!
same with dream brother its definitely a underrated song
Yes, one of my favorite performances of all time.
Jeff was with out a doubt one of the rangiest talented singers that's ever lived. His keening lilt, haunting grace notes and protracted sustained phrasing didnt exist before and hasnt come again since his passing. Lover you should have come over is one of the most brilliant love songs ever.
Would be great to hear an analysis of Jeff's dad - Tim Buckley - voice.
Rosie Wildman Song to The Siren ❤️
@@Sal-tm3tp Why not something more vocally impressive like phantasmagoria in two or pleasant street? :P
Caveguy22 but Song to the Siren just makes me emotional! Not a fave of yours?
BUT
Pleasant street > phantasmagoria
Get on top is my fave of his
Thankyou for that. So much Jeff fangirling going on here. I will always rate Tim's voice and range as greater.
I've literally been waiting for this video for months im so happy
I have been wanting to see you react to Buckley since I first came across your channel. Made my day!
Man.. i clicked on this so fast.. say, could you please react to some nick cave? That'd be sweet :)
Oh my god yes. Are You the One That I've Been Waiting For would be a great choice.
I’ve touched his hand! 😍
OOooooOOooooh yes please!
Very good idea !
I had to like this video before I even watched it, so glad you picked this one. Grace is one of my all time favorite songs, albums, and Jeff left this world far too soon. It was fun to watch you analyze this, thanks Sam!
"What more could you ask for?" I could ask for him to be alive. 😥
Sam, thanks for your analysis, as always. I have learned SO MUCH from watching your videos.
Thank you so much for this. I have wanted you to do this ever since I first discovered your channel probably almost a year ago. I remember I requested the video a couple times, but you were blowing up at the time and it just kinda got lost. So excited to watch.
I love seeing the joy on your face as you take in what Jeff is doing here. There were so many moments when you just grinned and nodded your head. Jeff does that to me, too. What a fucking loss.
A great Jeff Bucley live performance where his voice overpowers the instrumental and is so clear is “So Real acoustic 1995”
This video brightened my day Sam!
Thank you for discussing Jeff Buckley...I love him! Been waiting for this for a long time.
Love love love Buckley! I subscribed as soon as I seen this. I hope there is more to come.... Thank you 💗
Yes MORE Jeff Buckley! There are live performances of certain songs that lyrically are very emotional- for him too I think bc his performance is so different than it is here and I’d love to see you watch those
Jeff performing What Would You Say live at Glastonbury is absolutely beautiful and explosive.
2:22 the captions goin wild
I love Jeff so much, one of a kind musician, very gentle, melancholic, yet powerful. He was brilliant.
Yessss! So glad you did this one ♥
There aren't many songs that can touch me so deeply that I tear up but Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" did just that when I first heard it. Guy had a gift, too bad we lost him so early.
I actually find it more interesting when performing the vocals looks more expressionless/effortless than difficult. Maybe because I always have so much expression going on that I appreciate that so much. Jeff was one of the greatest ever and makes it look like he is barely making noise. Actually, something that is truly "awesome."
Also, I do love the "shaking" - adds character IMO haha
@@DarrenDavis2 It's a big yes!! It definitely adds something and some tension!!
Layne Staley's birthday was yesterday! Have you covered him at all? Maybe Love Hate Love or something like that?
I am waiting for love hate love or would.....I miss Layne Staley every single day and if I get the chance to timetravel I would go back to 90 or was it 91 to The Moore Theater and stand in the front row and watch him sing love, hate, love
Love Jeff Buckley!!! ❤️ Such an angelic voice he had. I also love how you made and posted this on the 25th anniversary of Grace!
Finally-Grace!!!!! All time favourite!
Yes! I've been hoping you'd do this one for a long time!
Yay, more Jeff Buckley! And yesterday was the 25th birthday of his debut studio masterpiece album "Grace" 🤘🏻💜
I've been waiting for this!!!
long overdue! this is wonderful. the best video ever, next to the Maynard James Keenan videos. I absolutely adore it
Always loved Jeff Buckley for his unique voice! Even from a young age, listening always gave me the craziest chills. Thanks for this 😊
I've been waiting for this day! I hope you check out his other live versions that are a little better in sound quality and hear how he never performs it the same way twice. Delicate, controlled, gentle, intense and angelic- that is Jeff Buckley. Give me more. 💙
I’ve heard him a lot of times, still gives me goosebumps
Hey Sam, Loved your analysis, some really good tips, thanks. I was lucky enough to see Jeff in 1994 in a small intimate gig only 2/300. Changed my life
OMG FINALLY !!! I am still heartbroken at his loss. You are the best !!
Finally it's about time thank you
the way you speak in present tense made me realy feel like music is eternal
Thank you for honoring my beautiful friend. He is deeply missed. ❤️❤️❤️
Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin (Live at Glastonbury) next please!
Angelic...a perfect descriptor for Jeff and his voice. I bought this album in 1995 and it was the best thing to happen to me all year. So many memories.
Hell yeah, i've been waiting for this !!!
FINALLY. I emailed you about this months ago.
I wouldn't describe his head shaking as "weird," as it just seems to come out of the emotion of the piece. Perhaps his expressive way of finding or feeling the emotion while melding together superior singing and guitar playing. A stunning piece indeed.
Yo Sam, if you’re down to do another Jeff Buckley you have to do the acoustic lover you should’ve come over.
YES!!!!
Grace is one of my favourite albums ever, thankyou for doing this!
Made me happy to see you enjoying Jeff Buckley's performance. I wonder if you'd agree that his Abbey Road Studio performance of Grace has better sound quality. Anyway, thank you for your work. I miss Jeff Buckley.
