He was and I was lucky enough to see him live once. It was at Maxwell's in Jersey City. Nothing but a pos box of a club. But I was standing 17 inches from his guitar as he played. I was in freaking awe! Maxwell's didn't have a backstage so all bands filed off the stage from the front. As we were making our way out the only doors to the stage space, Jeff slowly put his arm around me as if for support. He was in a completely different head space. We walked out together with our arms around each other's shoulders. I shook his hand and told him that was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. He thanked me modestly and we parted ways. He lived a block away from me in NYC so I'd run into him from time to time, which was really cool. My favorite line in the whole song is "Lonely is the room the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in. Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him." Just so much room to assign your own meanings. I look at it like this, he let go of someone cause of the weight he realized relationships can bare on a man, he was young and like all young men had to let go of someone they may have truly loved. He says burning in the corner is him pretty much, the window was his exit or way out, and he had to take it, because the rain outside or exit from the love was his only solution to burning alive.

I came to back to this video because I was thinking about how cool it would be to hear a collaboration/jam session between Jeff and Prince. I think it would be amazing...I hope it's happening somewhere.
The best die young. He carried the genius and angst of his Father...had Tim lived, so too would have the divine Jeff. Why cannot we keep our divine geniuses alive?
I literally say this to myself every day. Coming of age at that time was magical. I see these kids today kicking around in Doc Martins and faux perfecto jackets and I've just got to smile and laugh at it all.
This comment made me cry. I miss it so much that I don't think I will ever get past it. I didn't lose anyone ... I just lost that time of my life. Unbearable.
The thing that is so magical ( and out of this world) about this song is how every word that he sang and the chords are perfectly arranged, as if it was a personal hymn of our own insecurities. I don't have words, the beauty of it is almost undescribable I don't care it still makes my chest hurt I'm gonna break...
Inner Hierarchy I think you are totally right. His work is amazing, mesmerizing, I fell in love with music/life when I listen to his songs. I think we can barely imagine the emotions occurring at the same time while he was creating his art.
“A personal hyme of our own insecurities” is exactly the description I was looking for. Listening to this feels as if I’ve opened my heart raw for everyone to see.
Eventually all things merge into one and a river runs through it. The river was cut from the world's great flood. It runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words and some of the words are theirs I am haunted by waters
@@JMDOOM Agree totally. His lyric in this song is prophetic. "As their shoes fill up with water" He was reportedly wearing boots when he got in the water, and they filled up with water and kept him under. Tragic and massive loss. I'll bet he's in heaven thinking "yeah. not my best decision"
This is music. A supremely talented musician playing to a crowd silently admiring him and being the mid 90's, no damn phones up in the air. Everyone there is living in the moment. RIP Jeff. Only the good die young.
I've got the entire gig on DVD and something I've noticed over time, as a developing musician, is how no mistakes are made. It's a flawless performance. On technical terms it's as good as it gets folks x
You can see at minute 7:54 when he finished the song how emotional he is involved with it. He was purely immersed during it that when it's over he's like getting himself back together... wish you were here, Jeff...
I had never even heard of this guy until today! I came across his recording of Hallelujah by accident and now I can’t stop! I feel his voice right in my heart! The range, the soul... I feel like I don’t deserve music for not knowing of this legend before today.
I wish I could’ve experienced his voice and presence live. There’s a little hole in my heart knowing the world didn’t get to see and hear how beautiful and talented this man was.
Jeff Buckley is one of those never appreciated enough in his time. A truly amazing artist. I say that because his music is like seeing a beautiful painting being created in real time. It’s a journey you will never forget. RIP Jeff
Oh.....the quivering as he sings, this is coming from a very real place. It's almost like we shouldn't be watching. And the the slight head tilt while the audience applauds, a moment of personal reflection? He allowed us to see into his heart. I've heard this song many times but watching it now, I'm going to need some time to let it all settle.....
The pain this song makes me feel is agonizingly amazing. Never ever have I found a song that I can barely stand through, yet never leave. Thank you Jeff. Thank you for every little thing. You will always be in existence. In every single heart, and ear you have touched. I wish I could thank you. And your beautiful soul.
Not me crying on a Saturday night, drinking tequila and reminiscing about discovering Jeff when i was 14. Just the emotion this man poured into his music floors me. Every. Single. Time

Hi!I agree... the intro is perfect!!
I would love to learn it...any idea about the chords?
the weight of not only understanding these lyrics but to relate to them is nothing short of life changing
What a beautiful human being. Jeff, why you left us so soon? So terribly sad.
"So quick bright things come to confusion."
I came to back to this video because I was thinking about how cool it would be to hear a collaboration/jam session between Jeff and Prince.
I think it would be amazing...I hope it's happening somewhere.
The water called his name, you'll see him again one day, don't fret...
The best die young. He carried the genius and angst of his Father...had Tim lived, so too would have the divine Jeff. Why cannot we keep our divine geniuses alive?
amelia nolde You've used the right word, it's not enough to say Jeff was a beautiful singer, he was a very special human, a person with a rare soul
I miss the 90's so much
I literally say this to myself every day. Coming of age at that time was magical. I see these kids today kicking around in Doc Martins and faux perfecto jackets and I've just got to smile and laugh at it all.
ditto so grateful for the memories tho...
Me too. :-)
Sare Bear me too, I'd love to go back
This comment made me cry. I miss it so much that I don't think I will ever get past it. I didn't lose anyone ... I just lost that time of my life. Unbearable.
I can’t believe he was ever real there’s no one like him
Overrated. The most basic rhythm guitar and annoying vocals with constant vibrato, singing about being horny. Hipster junk tbh.
his voice is like honey
The thing that is so magical ( and out of this world) about this song is how every word that he sang and the chords are perfectly arranged, as if it was a personal hymn of our own insecurities. I don't have words, the beauty of it is almost undescribable I don't care it still makes my chest hurt I'm gonna break...
Makes me cry 9 times out of 10. Mind blowing.
Inner Hierarchy I think you are totally right. His work is amazing, mesmerizing, I fell in love with music/life when I listen to his songs. I think we can barely imagine the emotions occurring at the same time while he was creating his art.
"a personal hymn of our own insecurities" - yessss
“A personal hyme of our own insecurities” is exactly the description I was looking for. Listening to this feels as if I’ve opened my heart raw for everyone to see.
I love how Jeff’s band mates look at him and you know they’re thinking “wow, we’re apart of something really special here.”
How DARE those waters that took him away
maybe angel belong to heaven
Eventually all things merge into one
and a river runs through it.
The river was cut from the world's great flood.
It runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops.
Under the rocks are the words
and some of the words are theirs
I am haunted by waters
@@benbattams1511 Probably didn't feel beautiful lol
With all due respect to Jeff, he was foolish to go swimming fully clothed. If he had stripped off he would probably be with us today.
@@JMDOOM Agree totally. His lyric in this song is prophetic. "As their shoes fill up with water"
He was reportedly wearing boots when he got in the water, and they filled up with water and kept him under.
Tragic and massive loss.
I'll bet he's in heaven thinking "yeah. not my best decision"
This mas was pure music
How do you mis spell man? Like where did that "S" come from its like 5 inches away from the "M" on the keyboard! HAHAHA :P
iinfynite from the n you mean..
Lol
iinfynite and the “N” is a whole button away from “m” I guess shit happens. Lol
@bob dunson :D
He’s still alive doing the same thing just not in this dimension.
How can he even sang this song without having tears streaming down his face, is a mystery.
He cries in his soul
The tears come out of his mouth instead.... 🕉
when i listen to his voice i feel like i am dreaming
+katie whittaker very accurate!
One of the best love songs ever
This is music. A supremely talented musician playing to a crowd silently admiring him and being the mid 90's, no damn phones up in the air. Everyone there is living in the moment. RIP Jeff. Only the good die young.
every word, every line in this song is amazing and perfect. touches the feels
I've got the entire gig on DVD and something I've noticed over time, as a developing musician, is how no mistakes are made. It's a flawless performance. On technical terms it's as good as it gets folks x
Duh...
Que esperas para compartilo xd?
His mother is CLASSICALLY TRAINED. FYI
I feel like I don’t deserve music for not knowing of this legend before today.
we miss him a lot. Those of us who listened to him.
Get his album Grace. AMAZING
He is a legend that took few breaths - he blew Chicago away that night.
A masterpiece. It’s actually terrifying just how good his voice is live.
I wish I could’ve experienced his voice and presence live. There’s a little hole in my heart knowing the world didn’t get to see and hear how beautiful and talented this man was.
There will never be another man that could absolutely hypnotize millions of women like this guy. You the man Jeff rest in paradise
Jeff Buckley is one of those never appreciated enough in his time. A truly amazing artist. I say that because his music is like seeing a beautiful painting being created in real time. It’s a journey you will never forget. RIP Jeff
@@ohno4772 "sweet love" creo
I would've come over.
Immediately. And never left.
in a heartbeat.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
this man is literally the love of my life
This is the song I will be listening to for the rest of my life I have been obsessed for a year straight now
Been listening to this guy for approaching 25 years, and I'm still blown away every fucking time I do it.
That guitar bit where it drops suddenly hits deep
This song is exceptional in every way, but the lyrics really top it off for me. Jeff was a phenomenal lyricist. Utter poetry.
The best version ever!
Melancholy, pain, softness, fury, rain, deep and eternal ...
His voice is both angelic and ferocious. Wherever you are Jeff, I hope you're still singing!!
Every time I hear this I cry and get emotional
You mean you get emotional and cry
-just kidding :)
Same
Not me crying on a Saturday night, drinking tequila and reminiscing about discovering Jeff when i was 14. Just the emotion this man poured into his music floors me. Every. Single. Time
He was a generational talent 💔
"She's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever....". s there a better lyric in ANY song? I doubt it. What a loss to human kind.
Paul Desborough
There is and for me its "a kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder" still the same song mind you lol
Mick Broon it's my favorite too!!
Paul Desborough "i sliced his fucking cockles with my long and shiny blade" tenacious D, kickapoo
Adam Liddle You're a true romantic.
Mick Broon I'll take em both !!
perfect lines and songs.. that is why Jeff feeds me
Apart from being an amazing song with incredible singing, it's his lack of pretentiousness....he's completely enveloped in the music. Wonderful to watch
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder... all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter...
So much emotions in so few words. RIP Jeff Buckley
It's never over Jeff... R.I.P.
Jeff music haunts your every core. He is deep. His music transcends and pierced. One of a kind artist and musicians of the century .
...and they say you can't strum an electric the way you strum an acoustic guitar..if the great Jeff Buckley did it, no one shall stop us.
#buckleylegend
she is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever...
2:54 "Listen" Worry not angel, my whole body is paralyzed as I profoundly grace my senses with your voice.
SAME
gives me the chills every time I hear it.
wear a coat then
whatever douchebag
no need to be rude, i was just giving some advice :(
your a fucking moron, Dan...you should just shut the fuck up
I’d go over
Jeff Buckley is one of the greatest musicians/lyricists of all time. Even with his popularity and praise, he is still criminally underrated.
He will never be what he should have been when h was alive. The era wasn’t sharp enough to appreciate this genius
i cried to this, fuck. too precious
literally listened to this song so many times and the drums coming into the guitar in the beggining always gives me CHILLS ugh!!!!
i miss him (i was born in 06)
