He’s not singing that song. He’s living it.😢
Damn 💯 😢
And taking us along for the journey thru his soul🖤
Perfect 👏👏👏
He is showing us AV of this life using sound only.
Yes, dude!
"I might have to play this a million times over" said everyone who ever heard this song 😊
surely thats what we all do over and over yea..
Yuuuuuuup. This is my favourite song of all time hands down. Nothing can touch it. It shocks me that people don’t know this song.
She can't understand this song she really needs to hear Even Flow or Yellow Ledbetter she'd probably have to listen to them over and over a billion times😅
This is a very painful beautiful song. You could clearly see his pain as he is hitting the high notes. I LOVE this song, I could relate to this song. 🙏🏼
“My bitter hand cradled broken glass of what was everything” Gets me. Every. Time. 🥺
And just like that, another person falls instantly in love with Eddie Vedder.

I was so deeply entrenched in the 90s. It is still completely unbelievable to me, that there are adults walking among us who have never heard of Pearl Jam.
Kinda makes you feel sorry for people
Huh? Lol
@@jay606 Yes. Totally. It also makes me wonder what all I missed from the 70s even though I feel pretty well-versed in it.
Hard to believe 🤘🏻😁
I felt the same way about people not knowing Pink Floyd.
@@NunyaDammeBiznis I feel your pain now. 😂 For anyone reading this who has not listened to Animals or Ten, go do that immediately.
Now imagine being 14 years old and hearing it for the first time, then seeing him sing it live at 16. The impact this song and Eddie Vedder have had on my life is immeasurable
We're probably about the same age. Probably feeling the same emotions and memories. Haven't heard it in a very long time and I'm totally shook rn.
Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, and Eddie Vedder. The 5 horsemen of the 90's. They all sang with feeling and emotion. You can feel the songs they sing while listening.
6 if you count Daniel Johns
And only one of them still alive, no pun intended.

Truth!
MTV Unplugged created some of the greatest listening ever. So many of the unplugged albums were better than the originals.
I always say this
I couldn't agree more.
You can thank Bon Jovi. Their surprise acoustic version of Livin on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive at MTV Video Music Awards inspired MTV to create MTV Unplugged.
The queensryche one is fantastic too
So true. I credit Unplugged for awakening a very strong desire for live music in our generation. I still can’t believe there are adults walking among us who have never heard Pearl Jam. We can’t be THAT old.
Did we just watch her fall in love with Eddie and his voice?❤😂
yeh.. think so.. 💯
Sure did. She fell in love.
its easy to do... We've all done it.
She is gushing for Eddie 😂
I'm falling in love with her falling in love with Eddie and his voice.
Eddie reaches inside you and drags emotions out kicking and screaming. A treasure of a vocalist.
FACTS. This song is that song! Has brought me to tears for years.
So proud he is still among us and doing great things, the last of an era…the last of a particular spices of singers ✊🏻
What a beautiful and accurate way to describe the sheer emotional power his voice has over us.

I wait for this lyric every time. It is my favorite part of an amazing song. I will not exit a vehicle with this song playing, until this line is sung.
Best lyrics in a song ever and they speak to every single one of us... we've all been there.
He performed it in honor of Chris Cornell and it was heartbreaking
Fun fact you should consider is Eddie didn’t actually want to release this song. It was so emotional for him when he wrote this he didn’t want it out there. So when you listen to it keep in mind the emotional aspects of things and how he uses his voice to project those emotions
I have never been able to sit through this song without bursting into tears at 'that line':

Probably one of my favorite lines in a song, ever!
I miss MTV playing MUSIC. The first letter. The "unpluggeds". Nirvana. PJ. Alice in Chains. 10000 Maniacs, literal last concert with Merchant.
That line *never* hurts any less
The most beautiful words
Every time... without fail.
This song is a great example of what made Grunge so special. The best bands were expressing raw emotion, which had been missing from much of the corporate crap of the late 80s that immediately preceded Grunge.
Grunge unplugged is like rock meets country and cranks it up to 11 as if it's a concert on the last day before the asteroid takes us all out. It's the best of all worlds. You don't get to hear rock get that vulnerable or country get that raw but in grunge unplugged they do. Guys like Tyler Childers sounds like that. I felt like that's where Kurt would have been heading.
Yes! Well observed!
I'm so relieved Eddy Vedder never went to a vocal coach... Imagine the loss.

"Wow" is the only word needed to react to this performance.
Intensity is the name of this performance. Not just Eddie Vedder but the drums, so many crash hits, it's so powerful with the singing.
Everything exists with its opposite, we must remember death so that we can understand the value of life, seek to live life correctly and beautifully and prepare for death in the best way. Sometimes we must remember.
Transitory life..

I was in high school in the early 90s and I clearly remember and feel the dawn of grunge and coming into the scene via MTV. I grew up in a small Texas town and I was blown away by grunge, immediately fell in love. Singers like Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley/Jerry Cantrell, Chris Cornell, and other greats changed my life. Grunge takes me to another place, another time and I don’t want to come back to the now. Those of us who are a part of GenX and loved this genre will always, ALWAYS turn to this music. It allowed us to feel sad and angry and romantic all at the same time. I absolutely love this genre and Pearl Jam is one of the best.
Well said!! 😊🩷🤟✌️
Back then MTV used to play music. Until it turned into Empty TV.
I could not have said it any better
I love how universal this is - I felt exactly the same, in high school in the early 90s, but in Hungary!😊

Eddie remains my favourite male vocalist of all time. He goes from perfectly smooth notes with stunning tone, to massively gritty growls. The control, artistry and emotion. And the hair I mean… ❤
Vulnerable, that's exactly it. Eddie lays it all out there, and you can see his bandmates look at him with care and sometimes even concern, because he was so raw and exposed, and they knew it was emotionally exhausting to go that deep and to lay there stripped bare for all to see his pain... We all felt it.
_And twisted thoughts that spin_
_'Round my head_
_I'm spinning_
_Oh, I'm spinning_
Hey kids. Gen-X metalhead here. You might know some Gen-Xers that get weird in certain places and certain situations. I can't speak for all of us, but this song speaks for _so many_ of us. We got spun in the early nineties. And some of us never really stopped. The sun dropped away so quickly for us, and we never really processed that.
And that tension you feel hearing Eddie or Chris or Kurt singing through barely parted lips? That tension that tears at your heart so much? What you're feeling and hearing is the dilemma of the child of a baby boomer desperately trying to force into their voice the stoicism that the baby boomers praised and valued so much in the silent generation that raised them, while they are _just as compelled_ to express the love and hate and rage and sadness that the baby boomers had absolutely no time or inclination or talent or will to guide us through.
Singing that pain through closed lips is an attempt to stop the spinning.
Fuck, does this song break me.
This was such a cool video, not for just because I love Pearl Jam but because your reaction was so pure, genuine and down right cool! I could watch you watch Eddie and react for ages. Thank you for sharing such a cool video. I think I will appreciate the band even more now 😁
The grunge movement is based on feelings, not professional vocals. One of the best voices known for the era. You nailed it when you said grit.

Eddie wrote this song after his wife left him. He didn't want to include it on their albums, but his bandmates convinced him to do it. You aren't seeing Eddie perform a song. You're seeing him relive that experience.
Actually, when Eddie wrote this he wasn’t married yet. He didn’t marry Beth until 1994. This song was about a difficult break-up with another girlfriend.
@@maggieshevelew7579 Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
His wife never left him. He left his wife........for Jill.
@@travzimmerman1340 Yours is the 4th version of this song that I've heard. I give up, lol.
@@travzimmerman1340 Wrong. Eddie didn’t meet Jill until after he and Beth split up. In fact, he was supposedly devastated by the divorce. It’s nice to see he finally found happiness with Jill, who he finally married in 2010, and his two daughters.
