Any chance of doing an update video for this game?
😀
One of Tom's best reviews, and I'm not talking about the game. His speed and cleverness of thought and the way he cuts right into the review and clearly sums his opinion makes this review a standard.
3 questions:
Can it be played with all the expansions?
For someone who owns & loves Blood Rage, Splendor, and Catan should I try before buying?
Is it a somewhat "friendlier" Blood Rage (Looking for a Blood Rage like game that is a bit friendlier like Catan)?
Fairly high as who you play with changes. When and which slots the gods show up makes a huge difference. If someone is going to attack your island, but the posideon will take the turn before ares, you can take out their ship bridge, thus killing their turn. You can also focus on attacking, or sit back and amass priests so future bidding is easier for you.
Its also good to note there is an expansion which adds the god hades. I plan on getting this. Cyclades is in my top 3 of board games.
"What use are philosophers? Nothing!"
Wish someone had told me that before I entered University...
This was the very first dice tower video I watched! I recently picked up this game at Student Nationals Uk in Leicester and I felt it worth re-watching for nostalgia sake.
Seems to have a lot of really neat mechanics , thanks for the great review Tom!
Your reviews are great - how about doing them in higher resolution?
I def agree with your comment around 10:15... Looking at the components of this game, I felt concerned about it being over complicated, but it's actually a good sweet spot of strategic but straightforward... Thanks as always for the objective info!
what about replayability?
Looks like an interesting hybrid. I like to add some different mechanics to usual euro style. Nice touch with the not rounded coins, indeed. And in general this themes drives me. Antics, gods, Ares! :)) I see why it was so hot on BGG recently.
It is nice to see a Tom Vasel which hasn't discovered kemet yet being so happy about Cyclades XD
You will be impressed in the future, Tom! Mark my words
Is this like Kemet? Which one is better?
Such energy and enthusiasm!
so......I was between Cyclades and Warrior Knights. And I took cyclades, I hope that was the right choice.
I bought it last week and I've already played it like 10 times... I think the game is very balanced! I can't wait for an expansion... Or a sequel... Something like: "The Peloponissos" :D
Everything that has to do with Greek History and Mythology... I believe that it's very intresting for board games!!!
Thanks for reviewing this. I was looking for a game of this style.
I need your recommendation, should I buy cyclades or giants? I'm a beginner and i wanna buy my first board games.
Dude McGee well dude. Even I have forgotten to ever post this comment. Boardgames are in my past. I’m into another stuff now. Thanks for your concerns!!
oh gods, don't make me purchase yet another cool looking gam! This looks fabulous. Thanks for reviewing and the information.
I'm definitely getting this one in july.
Added to my to get list for Essen 2010
I want this now!!!! Thanks Tom!
Can this game be played by me and my two cats? Then we can have 3 player games everyday. Should be exciting when they control a ship.
What a great review!
Originally bought this game 8 years ago, largely thanks to the very positive review given here. We tried playing it once, and my then-girlfriend (now wife) was put off by the player screen that Tom rightly criticizes in this review, so it just sat on our shelf for YEARS.
Imagine my surprise when I came back to board games after a long hiatus, and found that this game is still going strong in 2019, with a number of new expansions available. We're taking it back off the shelf now, and giving it another go!
Sounds interesting but, I am a little leery about playing games that won't end. I guess endless risk games have scarred me.
so funny watching this in 2020 now.
@steesefactor no. that is wrong. philosopher helps minds. all experience comes from mind. it is not for money profit, but tor true profit. those who are wise find bliss through truth.. but not for fools who toil over merits, staus and material objects.
@steesefactor
Yeah, useless... but build just four of them (8 coins, 2 turns with Athena) and you have a metropolis, half victory
Yeah, this game looks great but seems also fun!
It's SIC-la-dees! (Or KIK-la-thes if you're Greek) Do you pronounce Hercules "her-QOOLS?"
Just ordered the game looks great thanks Tom.
@steesefactor you only have to find another 3 philosophers :) Oh, or better 7 and then you will win "the game" ;)
the guy looks like one of the creatures from this game. the prehistoric man perhaps:))
This is awesome, Tom :-) Even though I don't always agree with your reviews, I think you do a terrific job. Its awesome to see the way God has blessed you and your giftings. Your work is much appreciated!
hehehe no I knew it was meant as a joke.. that aws a long time ago who knows what I was thinking but reading my words today I like what I was saying back then :D
still in the God of War 3 vibe? :)
Instead of release the kraken i would shout: "shut the door" :)
lots of caffeine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No Aphrodite? Now *that* would change the game... :) Maybe an expansion.
And BTW:
It's "SIC-luh-deez" not "SIKE-layds"
Mispronounce B-grade fantasy names all you want, but don't mess with real geography. :)
you probably knew it.
Don't pick on the little weenie island!
I feel you missed the joke...
Sounds boring
He loves the game yet he doesn't pronounce the name correctly
