Lord of the Rings LCG, because it's great solo
I like that one too. It actually has some similarities to Marvel Champions. Same designer. Compare Nick Fury to Gandalf...
This is the correct answer. However, if there was a second place, it would be Journeys in middle earth.
We need an hour long DT special of Roy going through what it took for him to design and get his game into production.
Look us “design space” here on the Chanel! I did! 🚀🚀😁
The Reiner Knizia one was a gift from my mom when I was a kid and was the first game I ever owned so it has a very special place in my heart. Still play it this days.
What about “Lord of the Rings - Adventure to Mount Doom”? Great game.
The Knizia LotR game was my first hobby game, back when WotC published it. Absolutely incredible game. And really easy to play solo as multiple Hobbits.
The confrontation is my favorite
It's a really nice little game. It may just be Stratego 2.0 but it's a good Stratego 2.0
My wife won Christmas two years ago by giving me an unpunched(!) copy of SPI's War of the Ring from 1977.
What about Middle Earth Quest?
Adore that game
The first lord of the rings game you showed i have to check out. Love the look and vibe of it.
Lord of the Rings Risk was fun. I had both the Two Towers and Return of the King versions and liked the last one best. It is a tad simplistic.
Overall though I think the first one you showed with up to 5 cooperative hobbits is the Best! I love its art style that came out before the recent films and thus avoids being influenced by them. Also a fun game and you can squeak in a 6th player as a “Sauron” DM to run the game against a team of new players too.
Perfect video! I love all these games and LOTR so much
LOTR Knizia is my favorite but admittedly I haven’t played all of there is to offer for this theme. I love how it plays with the expansions, especially Friends and Foes one. This is easily one of my favorite in my small collection and great to play co-op and even solo.
You're right there is indeed a higher amount of good LotR game than in other IPs.
It's hard to choose. I would put War of the Ring: The Card Game, Hunt for the Ring and Quest in Middleearth could be honourable mentions.
In terms of being a hobby gamer, the LotR LCG is what I am. Everything else is something I do while waiting to get back to it.
My vote is for Journeys, we have had so much fun with that.
LOTR LCG is my favorite. My favorite board game is Middle Earth Quest. The Knizia version was one of the first board games that got me into the hobby, so it is very nostalgic for me. It is really good.I have also died in Bree...multiple times.
The Reiner Knizia co-op was my first intro into the Euro-games, however War of the Ring is my favorite LotR board game by a large margin. Just wish I had more time and opponents to play it with.
War of the Ring and Middle Earth Quest are awesome
Yep. Agreed 😏👍
I’ve only played Journeys to Middle Earth. Absolutely amazing!
My favorite Lord of the Rings game surprised me because I didn't think I would like it, but got it anyways because Lord of the Rings, but my group and family have been loving it and so have I ... it's the Lord of the Rings: Adventure to Mount Doom. I also really love the Similo Lord of the Rings version
Adventure book LOTR is my fav
For me it goes like this:
Lord of the Rings LCG, games played: 1148, rating: 10/10
War of the Ring 2nd Edition, games played: 24, rating: 10/10
War of the Ring: The Card Game, games played: 4, rating: 10/10 (recently bumped from 9)
Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation, games played: 18, rating: 9/10
Lord of the Rings: Journes in Middle-Earth, games played: 2, rating: 3/10 (this game is awful, with constant skillchecks and not enough interesting decisions)
Hey, what about Hunt for the Ring?
The only correct answer is war of the ring.
You missed the Lord of the Rings Deckbuilder game by Cryptozoic.
War of The Ring for player vs player and LoTR LCG for solo / coop!
Have not played War of the Ring. You said "Moria" a couple of times when I expected you to say "Mordor" - is it set around getting the fellowship to and through Moria (or a big piece of the game is around Moria)?
No, it was clearly a typo. Moria is in the game, as expected
War of the Ring is basically a giant map of Middle Earth, with one player controlling all shadow armies, the other all free people armies. Think a souped up version of risk. At the same time there is secret movement of the Fellowship to Mount Doom. It is very strategic and very very good.
I love LoTR Adventure to Mount Doom although it does not follow the source material closely but is still a very fun cooperate experience.
Middle earth quest también es un gran juego
My favorite IP as well and I've played lots of the games, but i think my personal taste leans more toward the card games. The LCG probably ends up being my favorite, largely due to it being co-op and working great solo (as opposed to the decades of my life where I was begging others to please play the middle earth ccg and/or lotr decipher ccg with me).
Always a great IP for games.
Who creates all this themed DiceTower intro music? 🤯
War of the Ring, hands down. There is no contest for me. When I play it I feel like i've played Lord of the Rings rather than something Lord of the Rings adjacent.
Lord of the Rings Risk or Stratego are probably the best versions.
I love LOTR but jate war games. I have the LCG but haven't played it yet.
...and the "Middle Earth Games" of Iron Crown Enterprises.
Was hoping to hear about War of the Rings Card Game!
What about battle for Moria?
I think not including LotR LCG is a huge misstep when recommending best LotR experience in a game.
Deck building games from cryptozoic, lotr and hobbit, they're all great.
Agreed!
Its not even close: War of the Ring.
War of the Ring. Easy.
chapter marks of the games would be great
War of the Ring is tops, but the next best you did not mention…
Middle Earth Quest from FFG.
Also, LotR LCG does not feel all that thematic to me. It is more like a puzzle. Had it been in Arkham’s mold rules-wise, I’d be content.
I'm not falling for this again... you've gotten me twice already.
But I'll give you a comment anyways, lol
Wait? Where is War of the Ring: The Card Game??
Yezz! Very very good game
MECCG is great
Yeah, that was a curious omission, especially as it was the *first* LoTR card game.
Many would argue also that the Middle Earth CCG by Iron Crown Enterprises (ICE) is the most faithful implementation of the works of JRRT in a game (myself included).
War of the ring the card game
