    For those curious about Shut Up and Sit Down, Quinns has suggested Blood on the Clocktower, maybe Tigris and Euphrates? Tom has suggested Oath. Not sure about Matt or Ava. Matt has said that he's played a ton of Quacks of Quedlinburg and Gloomhaven.

      I think what you end up putting on your #1 spot is heavily influenced by the people you play it with, especially on your first experience, and what themes you personally vibe with. And then of course the level of complexity and challenge that you're comfortable with.
      So to me it's not that surprising that people's favourites vary so greatly.

    Very cool vid, keep up the great job man! As a fellow D:I connoisseur, I find Immo quite on spot, giving alternate routes of earning VPs and partially shifting the focus from shipping (which still stays awesome and complemented/powered by the experimentation cards): decisions increase in relevance, when every agent-card you play in the early turns means giving up something else. Also the atomic mechanic feels needed, to balance the increased power of deck-building and refresh a stagnant row.

    I'll put the 100th comment:
    I've played at least 75% of the games mentioned here. From those, in my top ten are:
    -Through the Ages
    -Mage Knight
    -Brass (although I prefer Birmingham than Lancashire)
    -Marvel Champions
    -Dune Imperium (better with RoI)
    -Root
    Root was the most mentioned in #1 (3 votes) and I'll add another vote, as it is probably my favorite board game of all time!
    The rest of my top 10 would be:
    -Race for the Galaxy
    -Anachrony
    -Keyflower
    -Troyes
    Cheers from Ecuador, South America! 🎉

    I think this really highlights the importance of replayability when it comes to making someone's absolute favorite game. Sure, you might enjoy a game you've only played 3 times, but to be your favorite there needs to be something drawing you back. The deckbuilding and multiple characters of Dune: Imperium, the engine building and diversity of cards in Terraforming Mars, the asymmetric factions of Root. These are games that you can play over 100 times and not get sick of.

    Blood rage is so so good. I’ve played with light and heavy gamers alike an everyone loves it. It’s one of those games we always end up discussing, laughing about, yelling and remembering specific plays well after the game ends. That to me is the sign of a perfect game.

      The miniatures crowd the board and can be hard to tell apart. Runaway leader is a huge issue. Drafting has only 3-4 options and the player who goes defensive to stop someone from running away becomes kingmaker for someone else to win. We hate it.

    • @TpDgreat
      @TpDgreat 11 месяцев назад

      @@jtfike one of my friends hates it XD
      did u play it mostly with 3 players? i kinda agree ,if u play it with new player theres a high chance for a runaway leader, that happened to us thrice in every 5 game atleast at 3 players,
      the miniatures problem only happens to us when fighting in Yggdrasil and we dont have problems telling them apart, they have colors and regions have limited spots for units,
      the defensive issue,,i think of it as a mind game like do you want to get this card for depend or do u let it slide hoping the other players snatch it from the other players so they have to make a defensive draft.
      it has issues ofcourse its not perfect,but for us its perfect,me my 2nd group love it and it really shines at 4 players, the drafting mechanism is what we love the most
      u said 3 - 4 options only,,we love drafting games can u recommend me a game that has more options with drafting? :)

    • @bryceb8331
      @bryceb8331 11 месяцев назад

      @@jtfike sorry you don’t like it - but of course lots more games out there. As to your issues with it, one thing I did was paint the bases so I could easily tell apart. Particularly painting the value (2 for mystics) really helped.
      But the balance of the game is actually amazing. What works so well is you can switch for example from a Thor approach to a Loki ( Valhalla) approach mid game and completely throw off your opponents. Or bring in the troll and wipe out the other guys massive army gathering. Kingmaking is fine - because you can win with Valhalla.
      We honestly have a blast and always have stories to discuss after.

      Meh, I'm glad to hear that they're not included because they suck in my opinion. They've admitted to often only having played games once before reviewing them, bring up their Leftist politics in ways that attack anyone who disagrees with them, and more.
      Oh yeah, they're entertaining but how thoroughly are they really testing the game in just one playthrough? I used to watch and buy board games based on what they said but got annoyed because some were total duds. Then I learned about that and completely ignored their opinions from then on.
      The political thing really irks me because I hate when non board game talk is brought up in discussions about board games or while playing them. It's a pet peeve of mine as it's so annoying to discuss sex, politics, or religion in irrelevant conversations. I don't care about it at that time. I'm not there for that. I'm there to roll dice, play cards, etc. Also, it's ironic that the name of their channel is "Shut Up and Sit Down" since they don't shut up. So... Who is supposed to be shutting up? Those who disagree with them or just don't feel like hearing it?
      Honestly though, it doesn't matter if I agree with the person or not. I don't want any conversations about sex, politics, or religion at the gaming table. Discuss it another time.

    I don't think I would be able to pick the number one of all time, because in my case each game I loved I eventually burned out till I just did not feel like playing it anymore, even though I have great memories of each ...I feel that the best game of all time is always the one I just discovered, one that is currently fresh and I am currently playing ...

    Nobody picked my all-time favorite - Coffee Traders! It’s a perfect mix of mechanics that seamlessly segue from phase to phase of the round. No randomness, and 100% open information. Just enough player interaction, but no “take-that”. And, you are constantly engaged even in a 5-player game because you can piggy-back on other players’ actions. A perfectly-balanced game!

      There is so much pressure in this hobby for people to put on a smile and show a lot of energy regardless of how natural it feels. People can be interesting in so many other ways. It's fascinating to see people trying to organize their thoughts and communicate why a game is their favorite. In large part, when they pick this game, they are choosing what kind of gamer they want to be seen as.

    Mine is Dominion. The original deckbuilder and, to me, never surpassed. I've played thousands of games and I'm yet to grow tired of it. Easy to get to the table, games are fast, most people enjoy it. It just never fails. Replayability is pretty much infinite and I don't think I'll ever see a game that I'll play more. I do have other games that get me that more visceral reaction when I play them, but they usually come with restrictions like taking a lot more time to play or to setup, that have a narrower audience, etc. I do love these games to death, but due to these restrictions, they will never see as much play as Dominion.
    My close second is Magic:The Gathering, which I played even MORE then dominion. But the game hit a wall when the developpers started abusing their customers with broken stuff just to sell even more cards. The game has a huge cost to it, making it not as accessible then it should. So Dominion has to go over it.

    • @CroakerX
      @CroakerX 4 месяца назад

      @@g.joelmoore3283 MTG drafting is more fun than constructed and not too expensive a hobby. Each MTG set is its own deckbuilding game (with some shared rules, like Dominion) and some are better than others, but usually they're still very good.

    • @Lavoye
      @Lavoye 3 месяца назад

      @@joeybonitati9852 I don't know what Cube drafting is, but MTG is pretty much dead to me so... I don't think I'll ever play it again regularly. I'll hop in once in a long while for a small taste of the old times,but that's gonna be it.

    • @Lavoye
      @Lavoye 3 месяца назад

      @@CroakerX Not for me. I prefer constructed. I enjoyed a couple drafts in my days, but it was never a big thing for me. I like my decks to have a long life, being the only guy on the planet to play something like it, beating tournament decks with cards that no one ever plays... That was my jam. The power creep rendered that impossible so i'm gone. It's been maybe a decade and i'm still not interested in going back.
