    I love a good Omnigamer-top 50, have to say this is by far the most eclectic list I've come across in over a decade. I'm impressed! Thematic games, Heavy Euros, luck-heavy games, war games, dexterity, co-ops, abstracts, duelers, Pax, you've got it all.
    Also kudos on the succinct overviews with game pictures, well done all around.

    • @TotallyTabled

      Thanks so much, Tyler! That is very nice of you to say. It is refreshing to encounter someone who understands board games and realizes not every game on this list is a Euro. 😀I'm definitely an omnigamer, as I play with so many different types of gamers, from kids to friends to heavy gamers, and I appreciate a good design regardless of style. That said, my wheelhouse is medium to heavy strategy games, which is reflected in the list. Once I go to Top 100, I think the variety will really start to show. What are some of your favorite games? Any that didn't make my list? Thanks so much for checking out the video!

    Came from BGG because I hardly ever see This War of Mine as high on these lists! It's definitely heavy if you're not in the mind space for it, but my partner and I have had such great philosophical experiences and conversations around the game. It's not for the nights we want to relax, but I think it's such a unique game that I've been in love with it since we got it only a few months into the hobby.

      @@mikemudrow That's very nice of you to say. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I try to do double duty when I make playthroughs to capture B-Roll, so I'm slowly building up a collection of B-roll to draw from. But for every list I rerecord the voice over and reedit the B-Roll to personalize each list, so it takes a ton of time especially for these top 50 lists. In a few months I'll be releasing my Top 100 Games of All Time and I'm having to record a bunch of B-Roll for that one. I hope I can get it done in time. Anyway, thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos on my channel! Have a great day!

    You have some great recommendations there. Troyes, GWT and Macao are some of my very favorites. La Granja is a game I enjoy, but it barely ever gets played, and we keep having to relearn the rules. I will definitely have to check out Obsession - I hadn't ever heard of this one till today.

      Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, I would definitely check out Obsession. It is a similar weight to GWT, has a unique theme, and plays great solo or multiplayer (well, at least two player). I have a solo playthrough on the channel you can check out. Thanks for watching!

    Fantastic video and a great list. One think I like is the variety. At first I thought it would be mainly Euros with so many Feld and Lacerda games. Which is fine, but is just one genre. But while it is heavily weighted that way, you do have thematic games like Robinson Crusoe and Nemesis and fun real time stuff like Galaxy Trucker. Robinson Crusoe is in my view also a crazy, mad, masterpiece. Great game.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  Год назад

      Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Thanks for the kind words. I totally agree with what you say. Robinson Crusoe is often misunderstood, but I think you nailed it in your description. I'm definitely Euro dominant, or at least "strategy focused", but I have those few games in each different genre that speaks to me. Galaxy Trucker is one of those. So much fun! Thanks for checking out the video!

    I think you may love Vlaada Chvatil even more than I do 😆. I've never seen anyone talk about Dungeon Petz and Tash Kalar outside of myself. You've inspired me to check out multiple games I was a bit reluctant about including Great Western Trail, Macao, and Through the Ages.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  8 месяцев назад

      Nice! I'm happy to meet another fan of Vlaada Chvatil's work. He is my favorite designer by far. Since making this video I've become hooked on Mage Knight as well, so the hits keep coming. I just wish more of his games worked for solo as well as multiplayer. And hopefully he will come out with something new soon. Did Codenames kill his desire to make games? I need to do more research. Anyway, you should absolutely give those games a try. Check out my full playthroughs of GWT and the new Macao called Amsterdam. Those are solo playthroughs, but they will give you an idea about the multiplayer as well. Thanks so much for checking out the list, DoktorPepper!

      GWT is rough at first, but once it clicks it really flows. Your choices each turn are really limited, so it is easier to pick actions. "Space Aces: TNG (The New Guidebook)" is a solo RPG. To me it was designed in such a clever way that you basically can play a wide variety of adventures. It seemed to have compiled a collection of settings, adventures, and elements of all science fiction to allow very creative construction of adventures. Its design is simple, short and very clever. To me, it is the work of a genius.

      @TotallyTabled  Год назад +4

      Thanks for checking out the channel, Adam. To be honest, Euro is a fairly ambiguous and meaningless term. I should stop using it. It vaguely refers to a style of strategy game where players more indirectly compete over a management puzzle, rather than directly fight with each other. Euros often use victory points, resource management, and various action point systems to create efficiency puzzles. "Weight" is an abstract measure of the mental load required to play a game well - so complexity of rules, strategic depth, range of options on turn, game length, etc. Medium and heavy weight games require some prior gaming experience to enjoy, as well as the desire to invest the mental load to play. But, again, these are not concrete terms. Thanks for watching!

    I've been playing board games since I played the first edition of Dungeon back in the 70's. Never been a fan of Euro games and not a fan of worker placement games. Not a big competitive person either. Out of my 100 or so games Mage Knight is still number one. No game I've played has come close to the variety and replayability of it,and yes I don't only play it solo. Lol.
    Star Trek Frontiers would be next but that might be a bit of a cheat so I'd pick Star Trek Fleet Captains. I like that you can play the game without ever getting into combat. Interesting game. Return To Dark Tower would be next especially with the expansion. I played the original and this one is world's better while still being true to the original.
    Gloomhaven is there although I prefer the main game to the streamlined Jaws. Sword And Sorcery I really love. Love that you level up as you play and it's a really epic game with some expansions. Speaking of that I still love and play Descent 2nd edition. I have a lot of the expansions so that really makes it as big as Gloomhaven in some ways. Really love playing with 4 people.
    Lord Of The Rings Journeys in Middle Earth is great as well. Possibly the best app driven game ,I just like the card mechanic better than Mansions Of Madness. As a party game Star Trek Panic is a lot of fun. Gets really tough with more people and a 6 player game can get pretty crazy. And for a dexterity game I actually really like Ice Cool. My niece really enjoys it and knocking penguins around with 4 people is pretty challenging.
    I like Arkham Horror LCG but as with most Arkham games the fun dies out at times and gets replaced with frustration. Not nearly as bad as Arkham Horror 2nd edition though. Like Shut Up and Sit Down said,that game feels more like work while beating your head against a wall at the same time.

RC is the more streamlined and flexible system, able to tell a greater variety of stories in a quicker playtime without having to resort to paragraphs of text. This War of Mine is full story and experience, super dark and immersive and epic. It absolutely nails a very specific experience basically unlike any other game I've played. Frostpunk is in the middle with a focus on city building and morale management, resource management, etc. A great strategy game with a healthy and entertaining dose of story. Even worse, as magnets they tend to get stuck inside things like baseboard radiators making it IMPOSSIBLE to ever find them again. If you have pets around you also NEED to find them fast before they are eaten. Animals swallowing magnets are very dangerous as any other metal they ingest will cling to it.
    I am sorry but the frustration factor in playing Klask greatly outweighs the enjoyment for me.
    Now CROKINOLE I can see on this list and cannot fathom its absence.

      I have kids and we have so much more fun with Klask than Crokinole. It is easier to pick up and play just for the fun of it, yet you can also improve and get better at it. Klask is easily the most played game in my collection and creates laugher and excitement in a way that Crokinole cannot. Don't get me wrong, Crokinole is a great game of skill and I love my board. But talk about frustration -- having to wax and care for Crokinole is a pain. Also storage. Yikes. I do not share your frustrations with Klask. The biscuits shouldn't be flying off the board that often and even after years of playing I have yet to lose one. Your experience is just completely night and day different from mine. At least your dramatic last sentence made me chuckle. Never change, Internet. Thanks for watching!

      @@TotallyTabled Personal taste I guess. When I have watched competitive Klask those biscuits are regularly thrown off the board, it actually is a strategy at higher levels. I built a plexiglass walls to try and cut down on lost pieces.
      In my house crokinole is definitely the go to game and it also works well with three or four (I have a board with lines for a three player game on the outer perimeter). For storage I have one board from WoodenYouKnow with a custom watch movement image on it handing on the wall in my office. At home my Tracey board is hanging with a watch face from Mayday over the pegs.

    So many great games skipped! Where are Nations, Code Names, Gala Project, Pictomania, Le Havre, Thunderstone, Roll for the Galaxy, Terraforming Mars, Clank Legacy, High Frontier?

      Not in my top 50, but also not really in my wheelhouse. I don't care for war as a theme. I really connect with medium-heavy weight euros and thematic solo adventures. Luckily the hobby is big enough for all types of gamers. Thanks for watching!

    How do you play a board game solo ?

    • @TotallyTabled

      I've got 60 solo playthroughs that will answer that question. Many, if not most, new board games have both solo and multiplayer modes, due to the growing popularity of solo gaming. These are the games I tend to feature on the channel, but I have played through a few solo only games as well. Thanks for watching!
