    I really appreciate how you didn’t put people down for liking the mass market games, but rather invited them in to our hobby! Definitely something that I appreciated back when I was getting into gaming
    Also the second camera bit made me lol 😂

    My recommendations...
    - Yahtzee (dice rolling and locking, push your luck): King of Tokyo, Cubitos
    - Scrabble (word game): Paperback
    - Uno (card shedding): Scout, Tichu
    - Connect 4 (pattern building race): Santorini, Yinsh
    - Risk (area control/war): Small world, Risk: Star Wars edition
    - Sorry: (Take that games) Survive Escape from Atlantis, Tournament at Camelot
    - Battleship (deduction, secret deployment): Captain Sonar, Fugitive
    - Trivial Pursuit (trivia game): Timeline series, Wits and Wagers
    - Candy Land (racing game): Quest for El Dorado
    - Clue: Rear Window, Mysterium

      Is the star wars edition of risk particullarly different to OG risk?

    • @Atlasfilms08
      @Atlasfilms08 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@funnynameyeah it’s pretty different. It’s two player only and has you fighting on 3 different fronts (Endor, space, inside the Death Star). You either play as the Empire trying to wipe out all the rebel ships or as the rebels trying to destroy the Death Star. Once one of those goals is accomplished the game ends. The battlefront you’re fighting on is determined by what action you choose on the multiuse card you played that turn. There’s still a fair amount of risk style dice rolling.

      Totally agree. Two people I know who love to say that board games should be called ‘bored games,’ say that the only game they liked in the youth was Monopoly. Coincidence? 😉 BTW, I have tried several times to explain that modern games are not like the games we played as kids. No dice (heh, see what i did there?)

    The bad camera joke was excellent. I have really enjoyed First Empires as a Risk game, and I have also really enjoyed Risk Strike surprisingly. I guess that is like the Monopoly Deal of Risk. BIg Boss has been a really great Monopoly or Acquire replacement, Bohnanza has also been getting a lot of play recently in that regard. Oh! I almost forgot Franchise. Franchise is an amazing Monopoly replacement.

    I played Clue for the first time recently (after being in the hobby) and I immediately went out and bought Awkward Guests because it is Clue extreme!
    Rhino Hero Super Battle is so good and I've been keeping an eye out for a wooden version of Junk Art! Another fun one similar to Jenga is Riff Raff (a little pricey but so worth it).

    I told my grandkids that if they want to play Monopoly with grandma, then they’re going to have to play Cape May. It’s kind of like monopoly because you’re moving around the board and building up properties that will get you more money. I think it’s a lot of fun.

    Great idea for a video! I like First Rat as a sub for Candy Land. You still go along a path but you collect different resources at certain spots. You can steal upgrades at various points on the path if you want, but than you have to go back to the beginning of the path if you do. You can also spend resources to use tunnels to advance further up the path. It’s got a fun, silly theme but allows for much more agency in how you move along the path. It’s a super fun game!

    Catan is nothing to replace another game.
    Catan needs to be replaced!
    A game in which you roll dice for ressources is such a dusty mechanism.
    Why is Catan still hyped? I would only play that game with the cities and knights expansion because then at least it gets close to real modern board games.
    For experienced players or new players that have no issue with starting directly with heavier games: replace Catan with Terra Mystica / Age of Innovation or Clans of Caledonia.

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  5 месяцев назад +1

      That's fair but keep in mind that this is aimed at folks who are transitioning from mass market kid games to modern strategic board games. we ourselves have moved on from CATAN as well but some of those things like rolling dice and getting stuff are really familiar for people and so this game serves as a nice bridge into modern games. Some feelings of the old with some of the new. we gotta get people here and throwing age of innovation at them when they last played hi ho cheerio, might just melt their brain ya know? we gotta bring people in slow.

      Well, there are enough mid-weight modern games.
      I dont get what Catan has in common with Monopoly anyways.
      Other options might be:
      Machi Koro
      Concordia
      For Sale
      Ticket to Ride
