Since your able to do the fabrication yourselves, you should do a swing gate at the top of those stairs (assuming you haven't already planned to). That way you don't have to worry about baby attempting the stairs on their own, and you can let the dogs out there without worrying about them going downstairs unless you want them to.

My wife and I have lived in a rural area for almost 40 years now. It's been a lot of work over the years and my wife has always been there and willing to help shovel gravel, dig water lines and LP lines, drag & burn brush, pour concrete, pack grease into wheel bearings by hand, set fence posts & stretch fences, hand me tools and anything else I've needed help with. A wife who's not only willing but wants to help with chores around the homestead makes the sometimes difficult life so much easier and as the saying goes, "Teamwork makes the dream work".

You guys are definitely next level project managers! I never cease to be amazed at your projects and how well they turn out. Riley, that welding and welding jig are genius. What a time saver that was, including the jig for the chop saw to cut the verticals so efficently. And Courtney, you drive that skid stear like you were born in it. I wish you would give me lessons on how to use one so easily. And I have to say thank you from Boone. Those pads on the staircase to protect his feet are greatly appreciated. And he knows they are there and to use them. That was so cool to watch. Thank you again for another great video and project completed. We never get tired of watching you guys.

There is a paint called POR 15 that is amazing stuff. It's made for metal and will never rust. The finish will fade eventually but will not rust. The color black will melt into the background and the railing view will be very transparent. You will not be a slave to yearly painting of that beautiful deck. As always, you guys rock. Good luck with the new baby, your in for a real treat and tremendous joy.

We are unconscious when we are asleep or fainted.
When we are unconscious, we have no thoughts, no emotions, and cannot see the world.
When we are conscious, we know everything. Consciousness is thoughts, emotions, and everything in the world.
      This consciousness is one.
Will consciousness be split in two? Consciousness is not divisible.
Do you feel two consciousnesses when talking to a friend? Consciousness is felt only as one.
Consciousness is one. I am Conscious and I am the World.
      Gospel of Thomas
"For many of the first will be last, and will become a single one."
Jesus said, "Two will recline on a couch; one will die, one will live."
"For this reason I say, if one is whole, one will be filled with light, but if one is divided, one will be filled with darkness."
Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup?
Don't you understand that the one who made the inside is also the one who made the outside?"
Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained.
Split a piece of wood; I am there.
Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."
A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me."
He said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?"
He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?"

Impressive addition! I've not followed you from the start but have come on fairly recently so I may have missed your plans for future additions. I may have a bit of experience that can be of benefit. I bought a house a bit over 30 years ago from an older couple and got a great deal on the purchase for one reason. It was a tri-level house and they had reached an age where stairs were not their friend. Didn't matter to me and my wife because we were young and not concerned about it. At my present age of 78 I can tell you stairs are a real concern. Not only for pregnant mommies but for kids and elderly home owners. If you haven't already planned for it you might want to include a lift of some kind to your deck plan. Trust me if you stay there long enough you will benefit from having it.

I'm a general contractor and I've been to a lot of homes with BBQs on plastic decks and composite decks, the grease from cooking plays hell on the plastic decking and it almost ruins the composite decking. All I recommend is placing a mat down under the BBQ that extends away from it a few feet to collect any grease splatter. Your BBQ rolls so you wouldn't need to even keep it out there long term if you don't want to.

House and deck look great. From experience, i had to ultimately paint my steel baulsters(in your case rebar) and cap my steel railing. The railing got very hot in the sun (even in a shady spot). My kids were burning their hands, and when you put say a damp towel over it to dry, it sometimes left rust marks. Also the kids would constantly hold the rusty baulsters (after all they are right at their height. ) They kept getting rusty hands and a few times say them trying to teeth on them.........they are just a dirty distraction for little ones. I wound up making a railing cap out of ipe' wood and screwing to the top of the steel. It was easy....then painted the baulsters...........could just clear coat them if you like the raw look. Place is looking great.

I was thinking about the much needed gate at the top of the stairs. The railings next to the house are only suspended by one post. I gate is only suspended by one post so it naturally doesn’t need the other post - except that is where the latch traditionally is.
But a latch on the hinge side of the gate could be fabricated to work. But it should be made to be hands free - from the stair side of the gate. If you’ve got two arms full of groceries, there is no place to set them down to open the gate. So you will need a foot or knee activated latch to open it. It will be dog/toddler proof because it will be outside the gate and they would have access to it.
    Just thinking about you guys.

I love everything you guys do. Courtney is so skilled, only rivaled by Rileys mind blowing engineering skills. Courtney you are at a point with your editing/filming skills that you could show us a bug crawling up a log and it would be fascinating to watch. Early in the video when you captured your hair it was a heart pang moment. Seeing the side steps covers for the dog to use, and he used them exclusively, knowing they were there for that purpose.
The thicker rebar on the rails was a great choice. The rails are incredibly secure. Now when you are looking out at such a beautiful view, the security of the iron rail fortress enables you to feel secure while viewing the enormity of nature. Keep up the great work. This is by far one of my "THE" most favorite channels on You Tube.

Make sure all your steel posts and rails have holes to drain condensation out. They will fill with water over time and the frost will split them like a banana. I know because this happened to me after a couple winters. Sorry I didn't think to mention it earlier.

Riley have you thought about making a jib attachment for the skid steer. Seems that you use it for doing a lot of lifting.😉😉😃

Another really great video! Thanks! I strongly suggest that you drill weep holes on the underside of the rails. It's difficult to believe, but water will likely get into the rails. Come winter, it will freeze and bulge or even tear the steel in the rails. This happened to the first fence I built using square steel tubing. I don't have photos at hand, but I can get some if you need to see for yourself. For subsequent fences, I drilled 1/8" weep holes about every third spindle (ca. one foot or 30 cm on center). To make the job easier, center punch the upper rail. For the lower rail, I would consider using a C-clamp with a 'puck' that has a sharp point (e.g., cut a half inch 12 mm slice of your spindle material, drill a hole the same diameter as a piece of hard steel, about 3/16" / 4.8 mm, sharpen a point on the hard steel, tighten the C-clamp with the puck in place to create a dimple to start the drill). I like double ended, stubby drill bits sold by Malco as used by tin knockers (I did a tin knocker's apprenticeship during high school college, and grad school). A package of 12 is available from SupplyHouse com for $24.99. The lower rail will likely require a right angle drill or attachment. I hope this helps!

Talking to yourself is good, means you NOT nuts! That railing looks cool. Check out some vids on "dry concrete", looks like a great idea for little projects. Think a boom for the skid would be a great build for you and so useful as projects get higher and farther out.

We hadn't even had our coffee but we had to check to see if your video had dropped. What amazing progress this week. Your weekly inspiration never fails. We haven't been filming our progress but your videos have definitely helped motivate us in our projects too. Your railing looks amazing! I always enjoy reading the comments that others write to you. I'm going to agree with the many others about the gate. Love you guys! I can't wait to see what the next project is. See you next week!

I get keeping amazed at how much work you get done and how professionally cunning it's done every time. I'm wowed at this last project again. I could never live like you do, at least not at my age anymore. I guess that makes me even more impressed every time I see your videos. You've got so many talents and skills (and soooo much equipment ;-) ). Love you guys.

Wow, what a future view you guys just finished. That railing looks great and it didn't look all that difficult to do. Lots of work, sure, but relatively simple. Measure, square, cut and weld. Loved the tolerances you kept. A true sign of quality work. Courtney, you have to hate not being able to be more involved like you usually are. But I guess you are busy building something more precious!! You look like your glowing being an "almost" mom. I remember when Brenda was pregnant with our son. You look a little like her with your red/strawberry hair!! I miss her😭. What, if anything are you guys doing about a finish?? Going to let it rust like the door or paint later?? It truly looks super cool and you did a great job. Kudos to Riley's jig building talents. Until your next video take care of yourselves and the puppies. Ron
