    You really should have let it self-land in the field next to you.

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  5 месяцев назад

      I’ve let it self land in other videos. I would have had to move out away from the gazebo or taken off away from it. I really didn’t want to take off or land in all the gravel and potentially damage my motors, which I have done before. My intent was to show that it would activate at low altitude and closer than the setting in Betaflight which previously would have cause the quad to crash.

    I just loaded my 7 C7's with 4.5 RC2 as well . I'm bit sad they did not hash out the sat locking lag ( Still takes for ever to just get 6 Sats, I will get 8 max in field ( Same C7 loaded with INAV I 17 Sats in under two minutes . What is INAV doing different?

      What GPS module are you using? Even with an older M8 based GPS I don’t need that long and with newer M10 based ones I’m locking on in 15-20 seconds tops and with the M10s I’m seeing upwards of 20 satellites pretty quickly. I do know that shielding the GPS wire or GPS location in relation to the VTX/antenna, especially O3, is really important. Interesting that you get such a better result with INAV but Betaflight is doing something else. I recently started selecting Galileo in my Betaflight configuration and that has helped on lock for me as well.

      @@smithe68 I'm sorry I did not reply immediately because I thought before I opened my big mouth I would Install a new gen GPS (m10) I was used the old work horse BN-220 in my builds. cold starts , a few minutes using the previous configurator flash. Worked Ok 12 Sats average . But I just installed a GEP M10Q , owe wow! this module is lighting ! lt
      (cold started) under a roof, 22 -24 Sats in under 2 minutes . ! take away ! FB 4.5 hates M8 chip set ! I wired the MAG to FC i2c pads and got it working but I see error 6 and can't fix it so I disabled it for now till I explore more wiki. I appreciated you voice. Fly safe.

      @@BrainDeadEngineering no worries. The older gps definitely have nothing on the new M10s! I have a couple and they so fast and like you, I’ve had them lock quickly even under cover. Good luck with getting the MAG working, I’ll keep a look out for how it goes. Fly safe and have fun!

    Where are you flying at?

      @smithe68  5 месяцев назад

      Down along snake river, there’s way better spots but this is nice and free camping. Some of the stuff nearby is pretty epic. I’ll be putting up some videos over the next few days.

    What about stage 1 settings? No angle and hover?

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  4 месяца назад

      I have not had time to mess with any other settings. Just left it mostly in the default settings. Work and weather have kept me from getting to more testing. Hoping next week will offer better weather, we’ve had rain, 40mph gusting winds, etc.

    • @marionetto9682

      I read through the betaflite release notes and they recommend setting the stage one response to enter angle mode which will immediately level the quad then the throttle needs to be set to slightly above hover value to allow an initial climb before the stage 2 kicks in. I’ve set mine up as suggested and it works very well. These settings are for failsafe only. When using the gps rescue switch, the quad skips stage 1 and immediately initiates stage 2 rescue.

    • @smithe68
      @smithe68  4 месяца назад +1

      @@marionetto9682 wow, thank you for this information, like I said I haven’t had time to dig in but this is really helpful 🙏🏽 I feel like stage 1 would be useful if you lost radio for some reason although when I did a test of just turning off my radio, I quad still returned to home.

    • @marionetto9682
      @marionetto9682 4 месяца назад +1

      Yes it will still work unless the quad is in an unusual angle. Let’s say you are doing a flip or dive, if you lose rc signal in this situation the gps rescue will go to hover throttle and continue in the orientation it was last at. When the stage one settings are properly set up, the quad will auto level in angle mode no matter what orientation it is in and then begin a steady climb until the rescue portion kicks in. This is handy, if your flying close to the ground or in the middle of an acrobatic maneuver
