I have used it since it came out. Of course, first GPS Rescue versions were shitty, but still, they took over and flew in the home directions and saved me countless hours searching in fields, mountains and forests lol. Always worked in real rxloss or videoloss situations and always worked better than a failsafe crash someplace.
@@tstrrtstrr745 like you I have had GPS rescue save me a lot of time searching! One time with an older version I lost rx and my drone came back and hovered about 100’ above my head until my battery died, at least I got it back though lol. This new version seems to be great so far and I am sure they will continue to make improvements. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏽
This is awesome! Great demo video! Now I hope that the Walksnail video system is truly fixed to work now with GPS because I was waiting for Betaflight to make this happen. I lost my first 7" drone with the Walksnail vtx trying the GPS Rescue on 4.4 sometime back. Thank goodness i had a beeper or else it would have been a permanent loss. Something happens where the original Walksnail vtx would block some or all of the GPS signal during flight and not really let you know. And i had gps rescue on a toggle and tried it about 200 ft up. It started to work , but decided to just take off before getting to me. Sucked, but the coordinates of where i lost video ended up saving the drone. Looked the coords on google maps and got to where i heard the beeper. GPS ended up working in a different capacity. Gotta love technology!
Thank you for watching and the great comments. I hadn’t heard about the issue with Walksnail and GPS, that is pretty wild that it caused so much trouble with what sounds like some sort of interference from the vtx. Especially since it was happening after things were working. Good to hear you recovered your drone! Having lost a few due to faulty gps rescue in the past, before figuring out I could have latitude and longitude on my OSD, I’m always so nervous about long range flying and hoping everything will work perfectly. Beeper is definitely a must when doing this stuff, they are so loud they really help. Yes indeed, love the tech, it’s a blast! Take care.
Mt old DJI naza v2 with GPS & FC system would do this when turning it off . I would freak my friends out. This was 11 years ago . Cool that its now working on Betaflight nvr trusted it before watching this.
Yeah it’s amazing how good DJI is at this stuff, even my relatively cheap spark could return to home reliably. Betaflight is really coming along great. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you 🙏🏽 It’s so good, honestly my Mini 3 Pro doesn’t get much closer if at all! So far I’ve set it up on two drones and done about 6 different tests and it’s worked every time, I feeling pretty good about it! Good luck if you do it.

I gotta say, I may not have shown it but, I was sweating buckets 😅 I felt pretty sure it was going to work but you never really know! Sorry for late reply, I thought I had a video but I can’t find it. This is a really good guide to follow. oscarliang.com/setup-gps-rescue-mode-betaflight/
The nice landing is great and all but I think it needs sanity checks to be on to work which I am not a fan off as the sanity checks in betaflight gps rescue are in my opinion too trigger happy to disarm the drone if any of the conditions are met.
Thanks, yeah it seems to be pretty good. For what it's worth I checked and I do not have sanity checks set to on, I have it set to Failsafe Only vs On or Off. Not sure if it makes a huge difference but so far it's been working well in my tests.
Thank you sir, how to setup that in betaflight? I just done putting gps on my drone, can you help me how to setup my 5inch drone? Btw I'm done subscribing 🙏
Hello. I have this video that shows the very basic setup that I hope can help you. Let me know if you need more help after watching and I will do my best. Thank you for watching and subscribing 🙏🏽 I greatly appreciate it your support.
Weird how it kinda drops and catches itself over and over as its coming down, lol, wonder why they have it do that do that? I thought it was falling for a second there... But it is pretty cool that they seem to have got it working pretty good, i definitely wouldn't rely on it or would even disable it if you have a BMI gyro though with its calibration issue, the betaflight devs recommend not to use that gyro now especially with self leveling modes like rth, i tried rth a year or 2 ago but it was terrible and rarely worked but i do like having the mph and gome arrow, so i put gps on all my non micro stuff just for that, but i have never had a gps work for very long seems like they just die eventually after 3-6 months for some reason, also im pretty sure betaflight usually is set to beep your beeper then you loose your radio controller connection anyhow...
I thought the same thing not sure if there is a setting that can make it smoother. I have had this same behavior with two different drones. I definitely don’t think it’s foolproof but it sure is better than the old return to home that worked when it felt like it with random behavior. I once had a drone return to me after a failsafe and it just hovered in the hair about 50’ up spinning randomly in both directions for a few minutes, then it landed, this is before landing was even an option 🤷♂️ Thanks for pointing out the BMI gyro thing, I just saw something about that but hadn’t had the time to watch the video to see what it was all about, got one queued up for a little later. I’m with you, been putting GPS modules on anything that isn’t too small to have one on it. That’s weird about your GPS longevity, I’ve got a couple HGLRC ones from 2020 that are still working well, my first test with this new feature was on a DarwinFPV 129 with a GPS I pulled from my first long range build I did Summer of 2020. Hmm, that’s interesting, I don’t think I had beeping until I added it, I’ll have to check.
@@DigitalCruzer I think I have a bad habit of turning that off cause it annoys me when I am working on a drone in betaflight and I don't have my radio on and I forget to turn that feature back on 🤦🏽♂

I thought about the trees after I took off but took a chance. You know I should test if turning the radio back on will connect up quick enough to take over if I needed to do that. Not even sure why I would need that but maybe if my batteries died and I had to swap them? Thanks for sharing your experience, good to know I am not the only one that has moments like that!
@smithe68 it takes few seconds for radio to turn on and few seconds to connect. It's not terribly long but in an emergency it feels like forever.. I want to test 4.5. I put it in a quad. But when I went to test found quad had major issues now. So I finally fixed it. Take it out yesterday and the tune is wacky. So I have to retune
Interesting, that is fast compared to Betaflight! The sick tune gave me issues on 2 drones but not my Rekon 5. On the other 2 it was due to rpm filtering being turned on, as soon as I disabled that everything was much better. Good luck and sorry for late reply.
Not sure if my comment made it to you. In the RUclips app it shows up but in the studio app it says I haven’t replied. Basically if you want, or “need” this feature, I think it’s well worth it.
No, the distance of the remote does not impact the accuracy. If he got more satellites locked, the GPS would be a little more accurate. This is already a massive improvement over the old "return to crash" we had a few years back 😂
@@flat-earther In optimal conditions with very little moisture. In reality, most contrails last hours! They are essentially linear clouds caused by compression of humid atmospheric conditions. Conspiracy theorist.
