To all the people asking about my RC radio software, it's a Flysky FS-I6X model running OpenI6X firmware. OpenI6X is a special version of OpenTX that can be flashed to this particular radio. I have been using it for about 2 years now and it really brought a new life to this old champ. It's been working flawlessly, but the gimbals on this unit aren't very precise so I will probably swap it for a Radiomaster soon. I won't be making any tutorials about this software, because there are already tons of them on RUclips, just go search for it. Also visit OpenI6X Github page to learn more.

I was just going to leave an angry comment how ardupilot firmware won't fit on any damn speedybee flight controller like the one you had shown, there are a few H743 flight controllers like mateksys h743 mini or the hollybro's kaukute or whatever they call it but yea, my elrs Rx is built into the jumper t pro V2 I'm using, I guess I would just cough up the $70 for a new flight controller with full ardupilot firmware support. The mateksys ditched the mpu6000 with a bit of an upgrade, the holybro is still rocking the mpu6000 but both got 2gb flash and full size onboard ardupilot, just saying would have made things a touch easier from the get go probably.....but yea interesting way of accomplishing it if you have an external Rx elrs and a flight controller that can't run ardupilot itself. Pretty awesome, All hail Mavlink!

An truely exceptionally & impressive project. Well done and thanks. I'm amazed at the absence of online documented projects or commercial frame kits and code for a sub 250g drone with GPS stabilised flight, RTH, 2-3S, 20-30min flight time, elrs and low cost motors just like your platform. ..A rough DIY alternative to the DJI mini and 80% of the consumer drone market. ..without £60 batteries and a lack of spares causing yet more E waste. I would love to see more about your V2 plans with AIO FC etc. Frame and kit suppliers ..wake up, what a project!

Dont get me wrong, but I want to give several recommendations:
    1. Get yourself radiomaster pocket or boxer. I used to have flysky with heavy modifications, but nowadays radiomaster pocket - cost cheaper than some of your external tx...
    2. Try inav. Ardupilot is great, but for simple quads there is no reason to use such complicated and advanced software. You l get more spare time ;)
    3. Try converting to "pusher" configuration. I believe for this setup youl get additional up to 10% of flight time
Still geat project! Have luck ;)

    Some suggestions::
    - fly drone in evening and use camera with long exposure to capture light paths as drone(s) fly a mission path and change LED colours, relative to position
    - use two drones to carry a small banner/flag, with string between
    - have camera drone follow a second drone. think would require sharing gps telemetry.

This project is truly outstanding. Great work! I too have built a drone project using ArduPilot and a SpeedyBee F405 V3 flight controller. But, I had to revert back to using iNav, because the drone would oscillate immediately after takeoff. The drone would indeed fly while it was oscillating, but when I landed it, the motors were quite hot. So, I was curious if you might be able to export and share your ArduPilot config file? Or if you have encountered any oscillation problems with the SpeedyBee F405 running ArduPilot?

      Hi!
You know what, mavlink-rc is exactly what I want to test next, but I couldn't find any good documentation. Can you share some details on how you got it working and on which hardware?

@@BasementCreationsChannel the documentation is still being created as this has not been merged into current ELRS version but i would be happy to help you set it up.

how hot are your motors? I have the same one lifting 150g auw and they get quite warm. I used 3x18350 instead of 18650s

What an incredibly informative and well thought out video! Figuring out a way to do all of this with a single radio link would seem to be the next step

ELRS offers "MAVLink" mode which enables RC control and bidirectional MAVLink over a single link. You lose Yaapu though currently.

Thanks for the awesome video. I would love it if you would overlay some text descriptions when you're calling out part names or some technical words for us that are just coming up in the drone space. Thanks very much again for all the info and the links in the description.

go with plywood, if you glue 2 or 3 layers together, even in a very skiny design, it will get very stiff, also you can glue fabric in between, so it will never break again.

I've built several Ardupilot drones in the distant past, but never anything this small. You've inspired me to jump back into the hobby and try to create one of these.
What's your estimate for total cost of the build? Also, could a Radiomaster Bandit module (915mhz) be used in place of the one you used in your build?

Yes please do a swarm video with following tracers lights so it looks like an in motion freeze frame to motion and then make it look like it takes off like a lightning bolt "special effect ".
