I bought one not long after they became available and it has proved a reliable starter and runner. I initially had it in a Sebart Mini Avanti where it replaced a Jetcat P20SE which lacked the thrust for good grass take offs. I have tuned the thrust down to 35N instead of 45N as Sebart warns that 45N is a bit too much for the airframe. Engine now fitted to a Sebart L39 Albatross waiting to be flown.
The part you are calling the ECU is just a connector, the ECU is actually inside the front of the turbine with the 2 solenoid valves for fuel. I have never used a bubble trap with my engine, a felt clunk in the main tank will keep air out of the fuel pipe. (I do use one on larger models where there is more room in the fuselage.) I have 4 running turbines at the moment and only one has a stop valve in the fuel supply, this is because only one engine came with the valve. The stop valve only comes in if the solenoid valves fail when refueling, quite a low probability. Excess fuel inside the engine normally happens after a failed start when the main fuel flow has started but not ignited. If you think there is fuel in the engine tilt it forward so it comes out of the intake, the internal design stops it coming out of the exhaust.
I would recommend that you put the engine stop on a switch if you can to stop the need to scroll through the trim from one end to the other. Also set up your throttle failsafe setting to go below the normal endpoint otherwise the engine failsafe doesn't cut in properly. You may neded to set the throttle endpoints slightly higher than normal to allow this (relearn the setting in the ECU afterwards). I think the ECU failsafe is set to a 2 second delay to allow for a short loss of signal, if your radio is set to engine stop position for failsafe it will stop immediately, the ground display will then show it as engine stopped not failsafe.
Good luck with your model and good flying just be prepared for a short delay in throttling up and down compared to i.c. or electric (much less delay now compared to earlier jets) and always keep power on on landing approach to allow for giving it power on an overshoot. Only cut to idle when the approach is just right as the delay in spooling up from idle can be too long if you need to go around, good flaps help here.

I've been complaining that they don't separate the turbine from the impeller for a long time now.
      Electric compressor to gas generator.
I know that's at least one company doing it at full scale. Should be a lot easier to do it in small scale.
Then even with a flameout you will have some thrust, and lag would be negligible.

    • @JimGDMAC
      @JimGDMAC 27 дней назад +1

@jtjames79 I can only see disadvantages for this setup, with a gas turbine the only power needs are to spin it up to speed while starting then powering the fuel pump while running. A 2200 mAh battery will last for several runs on one charge. Your idea will need a larger battery to constantly run the compressor and it would need recharged every run. Also why have a turbine? it is doing nothing if not driving the compressor. Basically you have an electric ducted fan with a burner behind it. This system was tried in the earlier days of full sized aircraft but went nowhere, especially when the first proper turbines were developed.

Was epic , and then T-mobile used that same boat (full size ) in a swimming pool as I became a boat racer at 52 .

Would be interesting to set up a jig and using some thing like a luggage scale where the jig can be free floating on rails or hanging and the luggage scale attached to the jig and stationary surface...firing up the engine would act against the scale which in turn would give us how many pounds of force being generated place that fuel tank near the scale and we could visually measure consumption along side the force...
You all know what luggage scales i am talking about right? The ones with attachments, usually carabiners, that you attach 1 side to the luggage and the opposite. If light enough you hold it or attach the other end so that it hangs. The scale is in between measuring the weight...now re purpose it laying it horizontally. One end to a solid stationary structure. The other end to whatever the engine will be mounted to- this has to have the ability, with ease to move- minimally, but, enough for the scale to be able to make its measurements... The luggage now being the engine...before the force measured was gravity. + contents within luggage. Now the output of the engine-
would love to see this done- maybe as a series involving a number of engines- were the videos show us the fuel consumption/ efficiency and how powerful each is- do they produce the advertised figures? Incorporate a thermal camera- how hot do they get? Consumption...how much does it cost to run the different ones and compare against the others.

If you plumb the output of it through an an automotive exhaust diverter valve with a turbo-charger turbine in place of a muffler, start the jet diverted and then valve it over to the turbo turbine once it's up to speed, will the turbo compressor then make usable boost being driven by it? That's what I want to know. A T-4 turbo is only about $150 on Ebay and exhaust diverter valves can be found for less than $50 each. The only other things that would be needed is a boost guage and a valve coupled to the output of the compressor to restrict the flow so it could build some boost. I suggested this to "Cletus Mc Farland and his crew months ago but it was either too much for their comprehension or egos because they never tried it with their same jet to my knowledge. I think it will work, but the price of that jet is more than I care to risk on such an experiment. it would have cost them nothing.

nice in 1979 I supported Wren turbines with the development of a free turbine powered helicopter I demonstrated it at Elvington . Mike murphy went on to develop the Wren 44 which was almost identical to this 45 . First flights indicated that the 54 mm turbine spinning at 111,000 rpm had far too much power from the 72mm free turbine. I had bought a full size ex falklands Westland Scout helicopter which had been swimming in a flooded quarry near to Nuneaton Warwickshire.. ..using stainless steel tubing supplied from Harald Zimmerman in Hille Germany I silver soldered an Alouette prototype test bed .2m rotor span .helicopter .My combustion chamber design was super efficient utilizing a torroidal combustion zone Burn .I still have my combustion chamber test rig which allowed me to fine tune the combustion .process. My Westland Scout helicopter gearbox revealed the gearbox lubrication special needs .effectively a dry sump incorporating spray lubrication using two stroke oil / air mist .. the same 2 stroke oil I used at 3% to lubricate the turbine ceramic 688 bearings .Too much oil resulted in the ceramic bearings skidding and self destructing . Memories mostly good some bad . Hopefully my Turbine Alouette went to a good home in the UK. an ey injury and a faulty 35mhz r/c transmitter ended my love affair with helicopter and R/C flight ..

Newton meters is a measurement of torque, which is the rotational analogue of linear force, thrust is linear force, measured in newtons.
For those that still use units predating the age of enlightenment, it can be even more confusing, as thrust is often measured in pounds of force, and torque is often measured in pound-foot, and when that affinity for obsolete base units is combined with the habit of abbreviating without completely understanding the concepts, and a multitude of conventions for how to abbreviate, plus the usual issue with different base units having the same name in that so called "system", and different definitions of the same units, confusion is kind of unavoidable.
