    If someone from the 1940's watched this they would think it was some kind sci fi fantasy thing, watching hd color film on a small handheld electronic device of someone ordering a turbo prop engine and having it delivered to thier house, I want to be alive in 80 years to see the advancement in tech.

Love your tests and how scientific they are; I am trying to find a small to mid size turbine to add to an Electric Vehicle to be used as a 'range extender' and assist in charging batteries - especially as it is a KITT from Knight Rider and he used a "turbine" as well! ;) Maybe one day I will get it working.

    • @thelightersideofrc

      Great option for the pc6! You would want to get the other model for slower prop speed! It’s a powerhouse!

  • @TheElectronicDilettante
    @TheElectronicDilettante Месяц назад +2

    Is the gear box rated only in a “pull” configuration or can the Prop be reversed to have a “push” configuration on your test bench. Then change the way the scale is connected. Then it’s pulling all the exhaust gas and everything else being whipped up , away from the test bench , electronics and operator. Or instead of a prop, setup a mini dynamometer using a generator or alternator as the variable load.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  Месяц назад +1

      That's a great question! My assumption would be only a pull configuration as the bearings will be designed for this type of load.

  • @12345fowler

    I am considering a CARF SF240 TP Marchetti project. Prop advised to be a Biela 24x13 3 blades. Do you think the Xicoy would be a good fit ? The kit is said to be designed for a SPT5 but I very much like the framework on the Xicoy.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 года назад +1

      Best thing to do is take a look at the power figures between the various engines. If the X45TP is within the range then it would be a solid choice! I think this specific engine is up to the 11 ish hour range and still working beautifully in Steves PC-21

      Good question. i'm not familiar with the boat side but i'm sure it could be rigged up with something. Cooling is key. depending on the model shaft rpm would be 6000 to 8000 range.

      Yea the camera and mic’s don’t like turbines once they spool up. Never an accurate representation of the actual sound.

    Hi Jonathan,
    I saw 30.0 lbs thrust at the 20:15 mark, but don't know the rpm. You and Katie stay safe.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 года назад +2

      Yea and that wasn't even close to max RPM. I bumped it up to 225K but for the first hour your supposed to keep it under 200k. It was just slightly over. I think with the right prop and once the Turbine RPM is upped we should easily get upper 30's maybe even hit the 40 mark!

    One, Tether the bench to something, like a car. Two, have a test bench with a wider stance. You could torque that bench over. That’s a 7.5 hp motor! That’s like having a 50cc engine on there.

  • @CarterEide
    @CarterEide Год назад +1

    At those RPM's I will be shocked if the gearbox holds up without some sort of cooling. I am hearing things in the audio that sound like gearbox noise as well, and if that's the case I wouldn't expect many flights out of that part. The rest of the motor seems well built, it starts quickly (you might be going to full temps a little quickly for my taste honestly), and the throttle response is incredible. Overall this seems like a great product that might need a better gearbox.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  Год назад +2

      Keep in mind with these turbo props that the gear box is cooled and lubricated with fuel. On the larger models, the fuel runs through the gear box prior to going in the engine reducing heat. This new generation of Turbo Props have been amazing. This video was from a couple years ago and this exact turbo prop now has over 15 ish hours on it and still working great!

    I'm looking for a kit to build for use with this turbine. Did you happen to make any runs with the turbine around the lowest 2kW power setting? I'm curious if I can use it with a 16-10 three blade prop in a Top Flite T34 which has a 80in wingspan (and flies quite well with a 20-25cc engine putting out about 2.0kW). @thelightersideofrc  10 дней назад

      No. only diesel, kerosene or jet A. Run's like a 2 stroke so fuel is used for lubrication.

    Hey Sir. I was in the U.S Marine Corps. Got a question. Can you put this engine in a helicopter? I don't know to much about RC engines. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Great video. This is the first time watching your channel.

      Hey James. Not a dumb question at all. Xicoy makes this same configuration for a Heli setup. Instead of the shaft coming straight out it makes a 90 degree bent up. If you look at the box during the first part of the video the Heli engine is pictured there. Thanks for watching 😎

      @@jamesmaroon6161 hi! For future reference, turboprop is for airplanes, _turboshaft_ is for helos! Same type of engine, just different type of power take off. Hope this was useful!

    arent turbo prop supposed to have variable pitch blade?

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 года назад +1

      Full scale yes. In models probably possible but not easily. We will be using a variable pitch prop on the install on the. PC21 but it will be fixed variable not in flight variable.

    Please test this engine with a 5 blade prop as the PC-21 comes with a five blade propeller. I would like to know the actual thrust with a 5 blade prop not for RC planes but for another type of air vehicle. Thanks

      Engine is currently mounted in the PC21 with a vario 5 blade prop and it's got gobs of power!

      @@thelightersideofrc Diesel would work too. Thanks. Wondering how much power you could get out of it as a generator since they are about twice as efficient as any internal combustion engine.
