I have also done A LOT of GPS testing and found that an ELRS RX will cause GPS interference if it is not connected to a TX. So when warming up the GPS I recommend turning on your transmitter. You also need about 10 minutes (or more) for the GPS to download the almanac. Excellent video! BF 4.5.1 will support MSP GPS data if you are using a PhoenixUAS mRID remote ID module.
Absolutely great explanation! For the first time someone said that VTX make noise to GPS and now I finally know why my Mobula 8 has no problem to fix GPS when it is connected to USB port but it has VERY big problems to get a fix when battery is connected. Even Happymodel was not able to answer it. From my experience I am doing exactly as you said: first I connect power to USB port and when there is a fix i connect battery. And thank you very much for telling us that we should connect GPS to 4v5 pin😂

26:58 Great video! Just fyi “ground speed” is the speed over the ground including wind. It’s different from “airspeed”. So you shouldn’t have to worry about wind since the drone will target that speed relative to the ground.
@@andrewmedia3568 So I've tested it at the field and I can confirm it works as expected, one thing I did notice, is that it's a bit shaky for me with the iFlight Nazgul eco DC5, maybe it's the Angle settings, It's almost as if the GPS rescue kicks the throttle inconsistently, you can hear that it kicks the throttle then stop then kick the throttle again, until it eventually get back home, and so I wonder if it's a normal behaviour.

Finally someone that explained everything. Thanks so much. You answered so many questions for me. I had it working just fine before watching your video but didn't understand everything. Now I do, thanks to you. But I have a question for you about GPS. Yes I was doing exactly the same as you in regards to power the GPS without the vtx. But it still takes some time to get over 6 satellites. Yes I use M10 also. But my DJI model 3 pro gets about 15 satellites in a very short period, and with the vtx ON. What can I do to get that on my 5 inch drone? If they do it we should be able to achieve the same thing!
I do this on analog quads. For digital, I use Vifly GPS Mate. They're fantastic! But I suppose there's no reason you couldn't use a pit switch on a digital vtx...
great vid. Ive tested GPS return to home flying LOS, without the goggles. Its pretty cool to see in person, make sure to set Minimum distance to home 15 meters. ABout 50Feet ive found its far enough for the GPS to gain a proper heading.
The angled mode trick is a really good idea esp. for the low and high-speed flights I do. Lifesaver! Thank you for a great and thorough tutorial for the latest Betaflight/FW (at the time of this recording) as other guides I've used don't really work that well.

Thanks for subbing! I just use the supafly 5" freestyle preset PID for all my quads. I will probably do a betaflight setup video pretty soon since I've had a few people ask about it.
Sanity Checks needs to be OFF entirely. If you're a long range flier and you lost the control link out in say the mountains, failing sanity checks means it will drop your quad far out there if one of the many conditions are not met. If you've seen a "flyaway", it is the quad basically flying off in the wrong direction VERY SLOWLY on it's own in gps rescue mode, it doesn't just shoot off wildly. you have more than ample time to adjust your radio positioning to manually fly the quad back.
GPS ground speed doesn’t care about wind, FYI. It’s actual speed over the ground AFTER wind has affected the quad. The quad has no way to know how much wind it’s flying in. If you set it to 47mph and there’s a 30mph headwind, you are asking the quad to try to fly back at 77mph through the air. That may cause some problems depending on the build.
awesome guide, can i use this for my 3.5" drone? much more easily to comprehend than other videos , straight to the point . thanks! btw the function "allow arming without fix" means if you arm it before locking in gps , then throughout the flight it will not accept if it detected satellites am i right? so in order to make sure this is fine , you will have to wait for the satellites manually before you arm to fly ?
@@andrewmedia3568 Do you have any more information on the device you used to power the FC pre-flight for GPS connection? I think you powered it with a 2S LiPo?
helpful video mate! i have a question. i've set everything like you showed but when i switch gps rescue, the quad on the way home, can't stay at set altitude. it keeps floating up and down. do you know why?
Great video. Worked fairly well with my 10-inch quad. The descents are a little violent once it gets over the home location. But at least it consistently returns itself over the home location. Ideally, by then I'd have control again. Not sure why the descents are not as smooth as those in the video.
try changing your decent rate. mine is 1.5 meters per second for a 5" quad. Try making it slower or faster and see what works better. Also larger quads have more prop wash when descending down into their own dirty air.
Fixed Altitude Mode can be an option when laws (120 m max altitude) is more important than losing the drone? If my drone was at 100 m altitude and then it climbs 50 more, it will be above the limit so maybe setting 100 m return altitude is better in "my" scenario?
So do we share the bepper pad with the GPG, I think those are the same pads, I am a newbie I have build 2 drone and those were following a youtube page, learnt a lot, but still learning.
In BF4.5 the compass is used for GPS rescue. Make sure your compass is working properly or disable it. Flying with a compass that doesn't work properly can cause major problems in flight.
If you have a moment to answer a question real quick, I followed your tutorial with all the settings you had, I tested my 7” and it auto leveled on failsafe, climbed to my selected hight, and started coming home. Only it descended rapidly after it turned towards me. I sadly broke my GoPro mount, ejected my battery and GoPro(I found them) after some thought, I realized I had my throttle limited to 60% because I wanted to slow down the quad and smooth out my maneuvering. Could this have caused the rapid decent?
Great video. Thanks 🙏🏼 Can you please tell me more about the quad build ? Are there any 3.5” to 5” freestyle BNF quads with GPS worth buying that are configured ready to fly ? Any suggestions ? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 💪🏽👍🏽

Brother, I wanted to ask you the following questions: The inverted stabilization and 1.2 second acceleration of the angle mode, do I also have to make the same adjustments in horizon and acro, in each of the modes as well as in angle? and another question: Where can you get a powerbank like the one in your video? The USB c port on the computer has a 5v ee output, right? What’s your opinion about GEPRC M10-DQ? Thanks so much from Spain.
Man thank you for this I swear I think you felt my soul lol. I just ordered everything build my 7inch and I ended up getting the GEPRC GEP-M10 gps and was wondering how ima figure it out then boom your video pops up haha.
This is so helpful mate. Actually explaining each thing and what it does etc is needed! Can you? (or have you?) done a video explaining the RSSI & LQ numbers? I have them in my OSD but I haven't a clue what they actually mean. Cheers mate! ;)
RSSI DBM is the Receiver Signal Strength measured in DB. RSSI and RSSI DBM are a little different. RSSI DBM is a more real accurate representation of the receiver signal strength. for example lets say your radio output is 1000mw or 1W that is equal to 30Db. LQ is link quality. This show how many data packets are actually making it to the drone. So an LQ of 100 means 100% of data sent is getting through, an LQ of 70 means 70% of the data is making it to the drone. That data being your stick inputs from the radio. Hope this helps.
Not exactly sure of your question. when doing a radio shut down the only thing you have to do is turn it back on and once your radio reconnects you just move the sticks and your back in control.
@@andrewmedia3568 hi, don’t you have the throttle or switch position warning when you switch the radio back on ? I have it by default on my radios, I have opentx and freedomTX ( tango2 and mambo ) and it’s the default behavior , don’t know about latest edgeTX
@@Simofly Im on a Radiomaster boxer and I think its running edgeTX. I don’t have switch warnings just the phrases built in assigned to each switch like arm, gps, crash flip… but when doing the radio shut down you leave the arm switch on and just turn the radio off and then back on. I don’t think I get any throttle or switch warnings. Also my channels default to last known good position and or stick centered for roll, pitch and yaw. I do get throttle warning when turning on my radio if it’s not all the way down, but I guess I didn’t notice any issues when doing a radio shut down to test failsafe/gps rescue. I believe you can turn those warnings off in the radio menu if you want.
@@Simoflyso watching my OSD I don’t see any throttle warnings when I turn back on. It just re links and then I move the sticks and I get control back. Sometimes when I first turn the radio and quad on before takeoff I get an arm disable flag for throttle position and I have to disarm lower throttle and re arm. But I guess when flying and failsafe it’s different 🤷♂️
@@andrewmedia3568 yeah when the failsafe is true and you are still with radio powered On there is no issue, it’s when you are simulating the poweroff/on that this issue could arise. You can quickly resolve it just clicking exit on the radio . I cannot recommend disabling this for safety reasons, the arm warning it’s useful to avoid harm in case you power on the radio after you power up the drone . My2cents

Thanks so much from Spain.
This is great !! thank you sir
@@NEC_FPV no problem
Man thank you for this I swear I think you felt my soul lol. I just ordered everything build my 7inch and I ended up getting the GEPRC GEP-M10 gps and was wondering how ima figure it out then boom your video pops up haha.
Hey no problem, happy to help! 😁🤘
I slow the decent rate to 1.2. Also you can activate gps inverted I tested it.
That's extremely helpful. Thanks man!
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
About switch off and on the radio, beside moving stick to regain control, do you exit the switch position warnings after powering radio back on ?
My2cents
Very informative. Thanks for this video!
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
