16 playeer co-op sounds like a really welcome change of pace. I think they could have a winner here.
Yeah I always wanted to see big team co op since wow and the, real, Battlefront games, 16 is great but I'm kinda hoping that they kick it up a notch with a 32 player mode, it'll be chaos and I would love it!

it would cause problems and content would be fractured and take even longer, and dont get me started on balancing issues between PvP and PvE
not every game needs PvP, in fact, most aren't popular (outside of left4dead) and are left for the more popular, played and main mode which has the most care and attention on it
also what does the RTS genre have to do with it??!?!?!?! this is a horde FPS not an RTS game, have you even played it?!

1997 was a good year for me. I was 7 years old and I used to watch Jurassic Park, The Neverending Story, The Labyrinth, and play Sega Genesis 2 all the time. People say it's rose tinted glasses but I disagree. The '90s just hit differently.

@@workingZen of course back in those days we had mainly very outdated technology which was a good thing in my opinion since we weren't constantly using it despite having access to it.
For instance we used to have that handheld game console which required like 20+ AA batteries and would only last for like 3 hours. Our parents wouldn't spend 20 bucks just to be able to let us play a game for 3 hours so we stretched out or usage of the game over a week for those batteries.
Also let's not forget about the land before time (traumatic edition). lmao

@@PatriotJedi The loop is enjoyable enough, especially as you level your trooper classes and try different weapon, equipment and perk combos. Comms make the games, though.
I like the player interactions with the mix of the people acting like being in starship troopers and some just being strategic. I was a heavyboi and we were behind the team and one of us complained about the flybois having it ez while the rest of us are like true mobile infantry. We almost didnt make it to the ship with 3 seconds left but a heavyboi stood back and covered for us while we ran. Godspeed ಥ_ಥゞ

The developers are using a clip my buddy captured of me and another of our friends rescuing him from a horde during the extraction part. It was glorious and we did our part
This game is very obviously an early access title and has a ton of issues, but damn... deep inside it is a great experience and I really hope they are able to turn this into the game we hope it can become. We definitely want to know more!
The games EA is off to a great start in my opinion. Most early access games tend to be barely playable and sparse with options or replayability. I thought the graphics were close to on point. The map while being one I'd huge and with the rogue like elements makes it feel like it's never the same exact playthrough, but I hope a new map comes along in a month or two to spice it up.
Agreed, I love the setting, the mechanics, it just needs some polish to be absolutely fantastic.

There are little.bugs here and there but none that ruined the fun of playing the game for me personally
For $25 it was well worth the cost. I already got 50 hours out of it and enjoyed it all.
I hope in full release they will include every types of Bugs and planets from the Franchise.
Also I wish they will include Cameraman as Jobclass. 😂

Imagine cameraman doing something like the imperial support in SCII Mengsk coop commander - you film how kickass you and your team are and it unlocks additional powers - like bombardment or something. That'd be cool.

Starship Troopers is such an iconic sci fi movie from back in the day. It's nice that it seems to see a lot of love from modern film people

I 1st seen it way back in the day on laser disc,and even then it was hell awesome,but i agree,hopefully comes to next gen in 2024.

Klendathu Drop while The Roughnecks are falling back through the Outpost, and RoboCop's theme playing while hes blasting through the Drug Den Warehouse are some of my favorite scenes in cinema History.
I cant wait to get my hands on this game regardless if its in pre alpha or not, its that fantasy weve all been dreaming about for years.

The movie rocks. I bought the imported uncut US LaserDisc shortly after the theatrical release (living in Switzerland) and played it on the big screen at a techno party with about 300-350 people 'openair' - you can't imagine how many people came by asking how that movie was called and how amazing it was, lol.
After Terran Command I wanted MORE, and my prayers were answered 🙏 and in going to do my part and give this game my full support. And I'm finally glad the company is branching out to new genres
Nukes are in the game. They are currently the level 20 unlock for Attacker.
He did mention nuke rockets, which are indeed missing for now. We only have nuclear det packs :p
Id imagine nuke rockets will become a necessity though if we ever get tanker bugs...

One of my favorite parts of this game is that people are actually active in voice chat. Its a genuinely good team game
The tanker bug has models for dead ones on parts of the maps so I feel they will be coming eventually. Also with the tactical map so commander class that can call in air strikes seems like a good possibility.
That run to the drop ship is no joke though
They've confirmed Tankers and Hoppers, maybe even some SST3 bugs like Scorpions, since the Grenadiers are from the animates films

Sang the EDF chant with a bunch of randoms while we obliterated those stupid bugs and built a cool little house. 10/10 would recommend.
Read the book, see the first movie, watch the CGI cartoon, play the games, enjoy the feeling of killing bugs
Flamethrower bug was called the Tanker. Also there are nukes in the game, not sure if all 3 classes get it but I have it on my Hunter.

I saw this movie in the theater as a teen. I LOVED IT. Still a favorite. Brilliant film. As I get older it gets better.

I picked this up 2 days ago, and it's so so so so so much fun, it's wild!!! My favorite shooter now. It's not hard, but just the right amount of challenge to keep it fun. Wish they were a little longer. I always feel like I want more every time the game ends!
Klendathu Drop gives me the chills every single time I hear it ! Basil Poledouris is a genius of epic movie themes (Robocop, Conan, Red October).
Can't wait to play this game.

Lots to be added and fixed but a great game. My first ever game I spawned in mid-Match and a guy ran past my screen on fire shouting in close Comms "I'm doing my part, sir" as he was getting chased by an arachnid. And that was it for me. I knew then I too have waited 25 yr for this game. A tear ran down my cheek as I replied " come on you apes, you wanna live forever!!?" Cannot wait to see what the Devs do. Brain bug hunts. Nuke some tunnels. More maps. Mechs. More gear. More structures. Just More!! I want to know and have more xD 😅😅
You can already see on the map, and go in them, but there are some tunnels amd portions that go partially underground rn. I bet rooting out a small hive is coming in time.
Even as little ST:E gives for EA release in terms of content its been soooo much fun! And everyone in the matches ive played were fully engaged, actively communicated, and helped one another to get to the boats. Gameplay, base building and overall atmosphere is excellent. I can not wait when more content drops along the road.
Funny how the only REAL games we're getting are from indie studios. AAA pubs have produced absolutely nothing noteworthy or unique the past decade, except for maybe Elden Ring.

@@lamebubblesflysohigh I suppose I should have said WITHIN the past decade, since GTA 5 is just at the decade mark, along with BF4. I can give you Witcher 3 as noteworthy, but it didn't push any boundaries anywhere, it just looked really good and was really well made. Mount & Blade 2 is from an indie studio, though, so expectations are different; and was there anything unique in the Total War Warhammer series besides graphics that wasn't already done to perfection in Starcraft 2?
I hope the game eventually has the dropship moment in the begining while it loads, with a mission brief to get you excited, and not just be already on landed on planet. Glad to hear they plan to port it to Unreal 5. Be nice to have nicer lighting and visuals. I hope the devs are going to be super active on this title as they have a good thing here.
Sounds good... but boring when you think about it. Even with the federation news network loadscreen people just want to skip it and get to killing bugs. If they did that it would be worse for many players. As a developer they have to take a healthy position for the game regardless of what many think would be great only to be boring or frustrating with constant repetition.
I'm so glad it wasn't made ages ago because now we have much better tech to make games like these be much closer to its original vision of a true accurate experience
Man I do hope that they'll add classic grunt outfit down the line. I get that these are supposed to be "commandos", not regular marines but still.
Yeah I hope so too. I hoped for some generic faces you could choose too, generic white, black, asian, hispanic both male or female. Instead of soules helmets. But maybe down the road they will?
So much potential, I hope they add more pitched battles with vehicles etc, maybe even take a leaf out of the book and have Ape Armour where you drop in from Orbit and have to torch an entire area. Different planets with different climates, air strikes, tunnel battles, more bugs, gunna be slick.

Absolutely love this game, you were spot on with all the critiques as well as all the features that still need to be added. The base game and the gameplay loop is very solid, now it just needs more maps, more environments, more objectives - Basically lots of content to make it fresh.
Been playing loads with some friends, absolutely thrilled to finally have a large co-op horde shooter, and that being Starship Troopers is just awesome. The only thing, I hope they can add enough content and updates before people start getting burned out.
Man, I grew up with Starship Troopers as my favorite movie as a kid. When I heard about the game, I jumped right out of my chair. It's SO awesome to relive my childhood and take part in exterminating the bug menace!

Finally happened.
Tower defense cooperative game. It's a game about coordination, hordes, strategy and timestamp organization. This is a refresh of the FPS genre that is needed.
THIS GAME DESERVES a fat budget because this is a point of departure of a new genre. Tower defense games needs a comeback with the usual single player campaign.
It's exceedingly rare that an early access title is this well constructed.
Deep Rock Galactic gives you that "bug hunt" rush every round! Will be getting this game too!
I'm loving this game. The actual gameplay is getting a bit repetitive but the voice chat roleplaying makes up for it.
I worked on a Quake mod 20 years ago with the exact same idea. It was very fun.
The first thing I thought of was, "capture the brain", as in capture the brain bug and then immediately after thinking this I thought about OverWatch and their two teams competing for control over the vehicle which is going towards either team's base.
Imagine if it was bugs versus humans and there was online players as both teams who are trying to push the brain bug towards their own base.

I find myself staring at my desktop not wanting to play any of the games I have loaded. After long enough I double click SST:E, and every single time, I have a blast and enjoy myself for a good long while. It feels good and is a breath of fresh air. This game should have been made long ago and I’m really happy it is being reviewed so well. It’s worth the 25 dollars if you’re a fan. Support good devs.
Why has no starship trooper used the power armor from the novel/ova? Its already designed and its one of the coolest desings ever
Lack of cultural relevance in comparison to the movie unfortunately, the parody expendable infantry is what everyone knows and associates with starship troopers so thats where the money is. Not to mention how much harder it is to make a good game around the concept. Hopefully what ever rumored starship troopers reboot thatnhas been floating around follows the book, assuming it ever comes out, then we'd get some of that cultural relevance.

Some parts of the game and design are taken from the movie, book, and the animation. I.e. just like the canister holder from the operator comes from the Starship trooper animation

@@glockenspiel604 That is a shame. The power armor is what made the Mobile Infantry 'mobile'. It was a central character crucial to the story. Without the power armor and drop pod deployment it's just another shooter.

Yea, having custom death animations for players would be awesome. They go into third person and everyone sees it. Their screams are louder and more distinct than other noises so players everywhere can hear it.
The animations can be interrupted but the player slowly bleeds out. And another player can come over to give them a mercy killing just like in the movie.

Game has a super solid foundation. Just needs to add more weapons maybe some attachments. I’ve been using the same gun for hours now and the ironsite is useless.
God, please. I don't even aim down sights 90% of the time. Useless for tracking the fast little ones laterally or staying on target if you don't manually burstfire.
This has the same simplicity and fun that Left4Dead had. And a decade later we are still playing it.

Honestly its one best early acess games iv played.
There is a nuke utility item that I believe the heavy gets access to. it's like a briefcase nuke, set it down and run away. I also love Starship Troopers and can't imagine a better way to bring it to a video game than this. Imagine playing it in VR and seeing a giant bug rushing at you trying to eat your face.

Something about Aliens coming at you in overwhelming numbers makes for good movies.
The funny thing is if they can get this to where it’s just a game with a story mode and a wave mode completely fleshed out this game will smash
This game is legit awesome! Clearly an Early Access game with a lot of polish and features added, but the basic gameplay that is there is so pure and fun. It captures the feeling of the battles from the first movie so perfectly. I love it!
This game could also learn from modes like frenzy in sandstorm. With the commander feature with air strikes and other cool features I feel this tactical community could embrace. I also really liked the cell phone suicide bombers that could create an instant down and lead to that sense of feeling “overwhelmed” that this game does so well. Obviously there’s almost infinite stuff to do with the building aspect. Overall so cool and feels like it has great bones
Guns need to feel more substantial and powerful imo as the biggest feature. Again insurgency sandstorm does this so well.
YES! Im glad you’re playing this. Saw gameplay last week and I gotta say the nostalgia hit me hard. As cheesy as the movie is its in my top three. This is the perfect movie for an FPS. Haven’t played it yet but looks like a blast.
Me too, watching gameplay made me go re-watch the movie last night. It still holds up. Cheesy but love that you see the grunts as well as the starship crew. Just needed to see from the fighter jet fly boys perspective. Top gun in space hehe
Tbh, RUclipsrs like LeveCap have sooo much experience in testing games that GameStudios should thank them for reviewing their work. And in my opinion MrCap, I think ur words matters enough to actually let the devs know what changes should they make to the game. Don't be shy pointing out whats wrong even if there is a lot of it, we all can thank you for your opinion

Ammo and health concerns could be something think addressed with what might have just been called a mic potentially 25yrs ago but makes sense maybe then.
its alot of fun been having a blast and a good change of pace from the constant pvp grinds
Does anyone here remember that old Starship Troopers FPS from back in the early 2000s. It sucked so bad. My brother bought it and it couldn't even be run on our computer because the game was so old.
Despite all the jank, this is one of the most fun games I’ve played in YEARS. Even if it wasn’t starship troopers, the gameplay is just fun as hell.
The 2000 squad based RTS PC game deserves a mention. Good gameplay and used sfx directly from the movie
I love this game. Its been so long before i could really turn off my brain and just have fun and goof around with like minded people all around me communcating back and forth.

Really hope they add more maps and game types fx. a map where you have to retake or defend a space station/ship or where we have to hunt down a brain bug.
I have only seen the film once and it was many years ago so I have a poor memory of the film, however playing the game after a few of my friends recommended it was a nice change for me and I know offworld are good for adding tons of content to early access titles so I am looking forward to seeing what they do next.
Spoke my heart as far as wanting this sort of experience since the movie came out and the idea of the game we dreamt up was just that 'a dream' especially with the tech at the time... the only thing looking at the footage that bothers me is the bug hordes, it's 2023 the movie hordes should be achievable... it looks 10 to 15 bugs tops... which kills my dream starship trooper game I imagined as a kid
Just because LevelCap only recorded three-five players on screen at a time doesn't mean that there were only three other players with him. Same with the bugs.
I love how Starship Troopers was so, SO satirical that it broke the hyper-jingoism in America and got critically panned. Actually hilarious when you think about it :D

Bug dead bodies pilling up would make an interesting feature too. Like the team should avoid killing too much at a place to avoid a pile getting too high an having to lure the bugs away.
They should have a minimum 38 players per match which would be the standard platoon size including the commander.
Making an NPC the commander will make your objectives clearer and be amazing. Imagine having Rico or Carmen barking orders at you while taking down bugs shoulder to shoulder. That would just complete the experience.
You could also have cameos from celebrities being the NPC of the month/week with different mission profiles.
To make up for the small player squad sizes they could give you automated troopers who have simple commands like cover and shoot or run and rally. The whole experience of Starship troopers is to be the lucky few to escape the meat grinder and lots of NPCs dying would complete that experience.

Hopper bugs are coming along with tanker bugs the game wouldn't feel right without em. They get some of the most iconic kills and takedowns in the 97 film!
Yes I hope hopper bugs come to the game. Hunters are safe most of the time becuase climb object were the bugs can't not reach most of the time. Gunner bugs are the only threat to them at the moment and the first to get to the drop ship leaving most of there squads behind in my experience. I think on steam someone said the dev are working on weak point for bugs
Shouting quotes from the movie and having people reply to them with other quotes from the movie gives me life
Player giblets and dismemberments will be the feature that makes this title shine. Absolutely. If they have a melted body animation...even better.
Has so much potential for a large scale FPS coop game. Natural selection but full coop. Full version could have everyone hope on a ship and go to new planets etc.

I really love Deep Rock Galactic and this game seems like a good serious/realistic alternative to it when it releases as a polished product. DRG has more class building and bugs coming from all directions in caves (along with an awesome community and devs) but has a refinery mission that involves building that's probably my favorite game type and Starship Troopers pretty much revolves around this.
it also has mods, which the devs of this game are against implementing
