Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?

dude, honestly this is some of Tom Cruise’s best acting
When Ben Stiller called him and pitched the role, he came out on the spot and said "Okay but I want him to be over the top, ugly, hairy, bald, with big hands and gold jewelry!!!!" HAHAHAHAHA
Then one of the greatest comedies of all time was written!!!
@@BrassBashers hahahaha yeah! I saw that interview too. Man I miss when Hollywood was still making fun movies
@@Street.Hermit this whole film was to mock how wild Hollywood is!! He wanted to be the parody of Hollywood directors!!!
I was watching this with my dad one day and when I told him this was Tom Cruise he couldn't believe it. Shout out Tom and the costume and makeup department
Never looked at tom the same after this...amazing when you find out the big hands was his idea
Matthew McConaughey wasn't acting here, he was genuinely stunned by Tom's acting.
He lost a few inches.
As we all are, too.
Lmao
No one told Matthew what tom was gonna do, because nobody knew what tom was gonna do.
Stunted?
Between RDJ and Tom…this movie is pure 24k comedy gold.
The whole cast really killed it. They were obviously the highlights, but everyone knocked it out of the park on this one. There was obviously magic onset for the whole shoot, and it shows in how hard everyone commits to each individual scene. Even smaller characters like the pirates, or the film crew in the opening scenes before the main cast is by themselves.
I love the fact that RDJ plays such a brilliant parody of method actors that it’s actually about as spot on as you could get. He would’ve won Best Supporting if he wasn’t going up against Heath Ledger for Dark Knight
The opening of the movie with Robert Downey Jr.'s performance was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a movie.
The whole cast bro u cant tell me Jack Black didnt get down even Bill Hader is back there giving us his best performance ever
24k and pure are the same thing in regards to gold-content
When Tom Cruise starts acting and stops with the stunts...it's pure on-screen magic. Just like Maverick, Vanilla Sky & Jerry Maguire, he's nothing short of a living legend.
And Collateral!
@@diamondthree And Born on The Fourth of July
FLAMING DRAGON CASTING IS PERFECT!! THAT LOOK ON HIS FACE IS HILARIOUS & TC IS JUST ANOTHER LEVEL LOL
Fact: the character was fully design by tom cruise. Originally, ben stiller only wants tom to put on glasses and beard. But tom said he wanna fat suit, baldy and hairy hands. Tom also insist on making les grossman's dance scene. He said 'this guy needs to dance. I had to do it'
So you watched the other video too? Lmao
At that time Tom was taking hip hop dance lessons and he wanted to incorporate that into the character based on an interview
“Fat hands” actually
It was inspired in Harvey Weinstein and Les Moonves
Top 10 funniest movies of all time!
I wish Tom had done more Comedies. He was ridiculously good
He's still alive and making movies, bruh.
But it's highly unlikely that he'll make a movie like this anymore@@MrCREWCRUSHIN95
@@MrCREWCRUSHIN95After reading that comment, I said he's still alive!
@@MrCREWCRUSHIN95 the point of the comment was he doesn't do more comedies, reading the whole sentence goes a long way
He's one of those guys that is funny without trying.
It's like someone told Tom he can't do comedy and he went "watch me" and just entered the scene made one of the most hilarious and unique comedic characters and just left to show people he can he just does not want to.
Not unique at all. He just copied your average jewish executive. no conscience, all about the money.
I really wish he did more comedy bc he is so funny in a unique way.
@@overflow6004 it's not unique, he's acting as a stereotypical jewish executive.
Before he said that he said, "Here hold my beer .."
Weinstein parody
this is the modern version of Blazing Saddles. We won't get another movie with this kind of edge in another 30-40 years.

Fthem.
Thank you for reminding me about what a one of a kind this movie really is, nothing can ever match it again because people are too stuck up on their fefes.
Bill Hader helped lift Cruise's performance up several notches. His deadpan and delivery perfectly complimented Cruise.
Best mix of fear and controlled hype
A nutless monkey could have done his role
Hader was superb.
lol he helped lift his bigdick
Very similiar to Dwight Schrute
He killed that roll so hard, people didn't recognize him to the end credits. Literally. I remember being in the theater opening weekend, and when his name popped up in the credits for Les Grossman, multiple people gasped and said out loud "wait, WHAT!?". Unironically one of his best roles and a great highlight of an already legendary career.
Edit: bro we get it “Me supah smart, me know dat wuz Tom Cruise.” Congratulations in 2024, after over a decade of prosthetic transformations in movies like this, it’s easy for you to recognize. It’s obviously him if you’re looking for it, duh. But at the time this was so polar opposite to the type of role Tom was known for, or what he looked like. Plus him being in the movie was kept under wraps and in none of the promotional material or trailers.
At the time, even if you thought it might be him, on opening weekend it was enough to make you doubt yourself until the end credits. To retro actively look back at it and say “well duh”, is missing the point entirely. The role was so different and played so well, people could barely believe it was him.
Bro,,,, yep I hear you. Had no idea it was Tom till the end! Best role ever played!
SAME
Same dude, blew my mind.
Reminds me of eddie murphy from norbit, had no idea he played the old chinese guy lol.
End of the movie, I asked my wife, Tom Cruise?!
“Could you-uh find out who that was?” After such heartfelt vitriol is a criminally underrated line.
It’s a brilliant add-on
ok word salad.
@@col8353 just say you're illiterate and dumb, its ok
I was thinking the same thing. Really realistic portrayal of that feeling where you gotta try and walk it back to normal for a second.
talk MAD shit and then be like who was this? Reminds me of 2005 XBL chat
Absolutely hilarious and it was so unexpected from Tom Cruise - some of his best work! The ‘flaming dragon’ scene had me in stitches!!!
Nobody talks about the talented Mr. Tom Cruise. That man can act.
This is probably the best movie we've got in the last 30 years..
Criminally underrated.
Tropic thunder, Office space and Idiocracy.
Lol it's not underrated.
Def not 30 years lmao. But it’s the last great comedy before woke came along. They don’t make movies like this anymore.
Lmao they literally do though @TheGoonSquadd
@@BreeBunns name one. I will argue this all day. Tropic thunder was 08. Woke culture started in ‘10. Im talking like nonstop hard laughing comedies the whole way through. Ex Dumb and dumber.
This is one of my favorite Tom Cruises Roles!! He killed this!!
Ben Stiller’s best quality as a director/writer is he has no ego. He gave some of the best and funniest parts of Tropic Thunder to RDJ and Tom Cruise.
Still think Ben's best role was the antagonist in Dodgeball.
@@Stuart267 We're better than you, and we know it. Man that film is legendary
@@darkmist977 They have teased a sequel for years. But Ben Stiller & the love interest from the original got divorced.
I think Justin Threroux is the main writer.
The greatest comedian knows how to play that role of the movie in order to make others look funniest.
Cruise is really a good actor. I think he should do more comedies. I think he has a natural flair for comedy.
I wonder how much liberty they let him take with this character. Like is this his pure genius? or was he directed and really not responsible for the greatness of this character
"Playaaa"😂🤣😭..Tom Cruise one of my favorite actors, I love him❤️🤣
Don’t see how Matthew McConaughey wasn’t dying laughing filming those scenes with Cruise!
It’s called being a professional….
And probably needing to do multiple takes and eventually having to do the take with no one else on the set and having to digitally add in everyone else
We really need a les grossman film
Nah
Yeah... we do!😂🎉
They're working on it
I feel like a whole movie about him would ruin the magic of the little screen time we get in tropic
Been saying it for years!!!!
Adding Bill Hader to the mix is golden 😂😂😂
It really worked😎😎😎
“Welcome to the goody room.”
We are all bill haters to keep the lights on is divine why we pay them the bills that is.
I forgot how much I love Tom Cruise in this role. Time to watch the film again!
Definitely tom cruise’s best comedic role ever. May best role ever
Tom Deserve an Oscar award for this performance
I believe he was nominated for best supporting actor in golden globes . Not sure about the Oscar
Yeah how is it not possible this should be the best film of the Year Oscars everything
So did Robert Downey Jr.
Well I don’t know about best film of the YEAR. Comedies don’t tend to fare well in the Oscars anyway. But I believe the writing should have been recognized. And besides, the Golden Globe is more of an artistic coup anyway
Just my opinion of course
@@sherridoty4000 He also got a BET nomination.
This was the movie that made me respect Tom Cruise again. Any actor whose willing to go against type like this has my respect.
If I remember right, he was at a low point in his career before this where people did not like him after his whole fiasco at the Opera show, Scientology obsession etc. and even fell out with Paramount. It was couple of years later when he did this movie that people started to like him again and slowly regained his respect. There was Valkyrie and another light hearted comedy Knight & Day afterward that got his career back on track.
THIS IS FLAMING DRAGON! When he yells it the third time always gets me lol😂
framing dragon!
Framing Dwagon
"find out who that was"
Everyone talks about Tom but Bill absolutely elevates the scenes 😭🤣 “swing it past ya knees!!”
LMFAO loving Matthew's reaction 😂😂 literally having the same look on my face too
I love Bill Hader as his assistant/hype man.
1st time i've seen tom cruise played a comedy role👍🏻 and he is very serious in this role,.😎🤣
What do you mean? He was serious
@@honaku309 it’s a comedic role but you can tell Tom Cruise takes the acting more seriously than his action role. You can tell Tom Cruise has serious acting in his older movies with more soulful, conversation-based scripts like this one
@@tannyocean9984 it was a joke... more like i'm just acting that i did not know what he was playing which that is a part of my joke
He's Jeff
Check out his cameo in Austin Powers Goldmember.
Tropic Thunder had me rolling especially Tom Cruise as Les Grossman I wish Tom could do more funny movies because he’s actually hilarious
Check out Knight and Day. It’s like Mission Impossible but a comedy
@@stellastarbrightk7563 The Jeep in that movie is funny. They made it sound like it has a huge V8 in it.

He has a cameo in one of the Austin Powers movies that I thought was pretty funny.
Him getting offed again and again in Edge of Tomorrow was hilarious
I haven't laughed really hard in a long time. Thanks for posting these clips! My stomach hurts from laughing so hard!!!! 😂😂😂
0:48 I didn’t figure out that this was Tom cruise until the second time I watched it. I don’t think my mind could process it.

His best role ever!!!
The fact that the whole character's idea was his, including the dance moves is even more awesome
Not a role, he finally had the chance to be himself
Dude just want to dance
And huge hairy forearms😂
This is the role that made me love Tom Cruise
The fact that RDJ got nominated for this showed that how much better Hollywood was then

My whole theater was shocked when we all saw the end credits lmaooo
I'm willing to bet no one was more shocked than Ludacris seeing Tom Cruise dancing to his song at the end of this movie.
Sounds like a theater full of idiots
@@blairbrown4812 screw that guy he got diddyd
This movie is in my top ten of all time for a reason. Every single actor, no matter how small or how big of a role they are was PERFECTION! Cried laughing the first time I saw it and every time afterwards
this is one of the greatest movies ever made.. well written, well cast, well directed, well composed... well delivered.. highly entertaining
Жаль, такое сегодня больше не снимают) Стиллер прыгнул выше головы, сняв эту картину)))
It's a pity they don't make movies like this anymore) Stiller went above and beyond when he made this film)))
When my brothers and I first saw this movie, we said through the entire movie "This guy looks familiar but where have we seen him?" When his name showed in the credits my youngest brother said "That is some awesome acting!"
Tom Cruise phenomenally underrated as an actor because he’s good at action flicks
The author of Interview with a Vampire was so mad Tom got cast as the lead but he won her over with his performance. He was also excellent in Born on the Fourth of July.
@@stephanieharris9068 he was oscar worthy for Born on the Fourth of July
He’s playing himself - an Arrogant A-Hole!
He has massive popularity spanning decades. He is hardly underrated. He also has chosen to do more action movies than other genres. He could do more artsy, independent, or comic roles if he chose to, but that is his choice.
@ massively popular for sure but my point is he is underrated as a serious dramatic actor.
I haven't seen this in quite a while. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Proof that Tom Cruise is a great actor.
Tom Cruise completely owned this role, deserving much greater recognition for his hilarious contribution to this classic movie. Not many dramatic actors, who also playe action roles, can truly live up to comedy like this. What a fearless and incredibly original performance!
This movie is such a classic! It's one of the few movies that I can watch repeatedly without getting bored! The acting in this movie is so sublime!
And Les Grossman for President! 👊🏾
Hands down my favorite roll I've ever seen him play. He finally went out of his norm and showed incredible range for this particular one. He stole the show!
Tom Cruise was hilarious as hell in this movie!!! 🤣😂 That dance scene at the end had me fuckin dying!! 😂🤣😂
“Will you find out who that was?” That line just cements it 😂
Bill hader's awkwardness is probably the funniest th8ng about the situation 😂😂😂
His only direction was to always back up Les. Hes basically doing improv😂
YES! i often feel like that is overlooked, every quick, secret and terrifying glance toward his boss to see how will he react to his every suck
Yup, they complement each other for great comedic effekt 😂
How lucky is that guy behind Tom. He must have some stories to tell...
This was Tom Cruise's best role ever! When I first saw this it took me a while to realize who it was. That's great acting. Great movie
Without doubt, his greatest role.
Ive never seen a guy have so much fun.
Les Grossman is hilarious, didn't know Tom was excellent in comedic roles. LoveTropic Thunder so much I watched it 4 times already!
literally the greatest ever made they dont make them like this anymore never let this gem die
Tom Cruise is really an underrated actor. Think about ALL the movies he's been in.Its really impressive.
Underrated ?? Lol. 🤣
Yall cannot discount Bill Haders performance, he helped elevate Toms performance
You know movies are usually all the same. Sometimes maybe there will be those who are a bit different or slightly more original but at the core they are the same. Same plots, same scripts, same jumpscares and this lasts for decades. But sometimes, once every 12 years, out comes a movie that is not only good but also so weird and different that you're like "what the actual f was that?". This movie is it.
james franco's the interview comes pretty close to this too
i was just talking about this yesterday. this may never happen again in my lifetime. movies like this.
also - flaming dragon guy's reactions are on point
true man. Everything was
The process from angry to confusion and every step in the way is simply unique
All 3 of them were necessary to make this as hilarious as it is …. Brilliant!
McConaghy’s expressions are so classic.
“Welcome to the goody room” cracks me up every time
This movie was a masterpiece.👌🏼
His best role ever. The dance scene..pure brilliance.. 😂
00:18 Matthew McConaughey was bumping to the beat with everybody here 😂
i wonder how many times Mathew laugh in the scene where Tom dances... xD
Everything about this scene is classic!! Matts look, Tom, Hader the hype man… its perfection!
One of the most epic movies ever. Once in a lifetime perfection.
This is beyond funny. Can't make this film today, but thank goodness it was made. The cast was great.
Why? You can for sure make a film like this today. Its called freedom of speech.
“Simple Jack belong to us now…”
😂
I seriously wanted Ben Stiller to make the movie Simple Jack! I laughed so hard when he was doing that character!
"ASIA Jack is my f*cking character"
ASIA JACK 😂😂😂😂😂
"Ahh man he went full retard"
03:50 Tom went fully Jack Nicholson's Colonel Jessup in that moment.
I remember the entire movie I couldn't quite put my finger on who Les Grossman was. It was driving me crazy. And in the credits when I realized it was Tom Cruise my mind was blown so hard, it never fully recovered.
This is honestly Tom Cruises best performance. Why? Cause he isn't acting like Tom Cruise!
True
So was his role as the "ugly" vampire Lestat
There are many movies he doesn't act as Tom Cruise. You just haven't watched enough..
Honestly stupid comment. TC is one of the greatest actors to ever live. Almost everything hes done is oscar worthy. Its pure bias that causes people to think any differently.
One of my favorite characters he played. He deserved a stand alone Les film after this as a sequel.
Tom is a fucking legend...a pure master of acting..
I own this on DVD/Blueray. One day it will be erased from the interweb. One of the best comedy's ever made.

Impossible task, I agree 100%. Whom ever could pull off a Tropic Thunder esq movie in 2024, would not only be of legendary status, godly comes to mind.
No, that's how terrible movies are made.
Only Marvel Jesus could do it.
It was controversial even in the year it came out. There were a lot of people who called for boycotts, mostly for the usage of the word retard and Ben Stiller's Simple Jack character.

Everyone talks about how Tom Cruise played this role brilliantly, but I'd like to marvel at Ben Stiller's gift of persuasion in getting Tom to play this role.
It was funny, self deprecating, honestly I loved it. He is charming and funny. He reminded me of the late great James Lipton here.
Anyone else have to go back after watching the movie just to confirm and marvel at it being Tom Cruise since you didn’t realize during the ENTIRE MOVIE?? That’s fucking talent…
I watch this at least twice a week. One of the best movies ever filmed!
Bill Hader and Cruise were legend! Cruise was excellent…one of my favorite roles he ever had. “You shit the money bed, friend!”
Tom Cruise always brings to each role his unique acting. Seeing him in this was so funny. Especially the dancing I think he does in the end.
Tom Cruise’s best acting ever, period.
That was simply outstanding acting! I did not realized he was tom until the end…
This is why there should be an Oscar category for comedy.
Tom's best role ever. Prove me wrong haha.
let 2025 be the return of movies like Tropic Thunder!!!!!
over the top, right in your face, non-PC, REAL, hilarious acting!
Tom has been going places as an actor. He has never been back to being: Les Groosman !

“Can you find out who that was”. This is priceless - his best character. He should do more comedy
It just shows that getting a brilliant (yes, I said "brilliant") actor/performer like Tom Cruise, you get this amazing performance.
This is one of the funniest films of all time. I legit die every time I watch it.
Matthew's flabbergasted expression is real.
