      The whole cast really killed it. They were obviously the highlights, but everyone knocked it out of the park on this one. There was obviously magic onset for the whole shoot, and it shows in how hard everyone commits to each individual scene. Even smaller characters like the pirates, or the film crew in the opening scenes before the main cast is by themselves.

    He killed that roll so hard, people didn't recognize him to the end credits. Literally. I remember being in the theater opening weekend, and when his name popped up in the credits for Les Grossman, multiple people gasped and said out loud "wait, WHAT!?". Unironically one of his best roles and a great highlight of an already legendary career.
    Edit: bro we get it “Me supah smart, me know dat wuz Tom Cruise.” Congratulations in 2024, after over a decade of prosthetic transformations in movies like this, it’s easy for you to recognize. It’s obviously him if you’re looking for it, duh. But at the time this was so polar opposite to the type of role Tom was known for, or what he looked like. Plus him being in the movie was kept under wraps and in none of the promotional material or trailers.
    At the time, even if you thought it might be him, on opening weekend it was enough to make you doubt yourself until the end credits. To retro actively look back at it and say “well duh”, is missing the point entirely. The role was so different and played so well, people could barely believe it was him.

    Personally I don’t care for Tom but I must admit the man is one of the greatest actors ever. For me his performance in interview with the vampire is the perfect example of this. The vampire chronicles are one of my favorite series and Tom NAILED Lestat. Everything was perfect, the voice, the mannerisms he was exactly how I imagined Lestat in the books. He must have read them. Usually I don’t like watching movies based on books because they ruin my vision of the characters but Tom completely embodied Lestat. It in fact made me love the books more. He may be a crazy Scientologist but he’s a master of the acting craft. He knows how to become a character not just play one

    His performance was the best of any in the history of acting when you weight the other roles he's played and how unlike him is this character. That's acting and I've loved this movie since I've seen it in theaters. It brought the best out of every actor in the film and its really cinematic gold. Truly thank you Tom Cruise for giving me something that makes me smile EVERY TIME and can take me out of any negative mood. Brilliant.

    One of the weirdest things for me about Tom Cruise in this role is how self aware he seems, and yet he's also a Scientologist. Like, the two seem completely at odds with each other.

    • @mat7083
      @mat7083 Месяц назад +1

      Yet, it weirdly works cause it’s TOM fucking CRUISE! Those two names alone are an insufferable synthesis to the maddening contradiction which would tear any sane, healthy, and overall normal human being apart.

      Personally I like to believe that Scientology is nothing more than a gigantic (although dwarfed in comparison to even bigger schemes) money laundering operation, so I don't think Tom is weird like that at all. It's all just money to him. That's my tinfoil hat speaking though. No fact or evidence I can give you.
