He loved not being given full Hollywood mobile homes and a staff of servants, felt 'normal' in a way he rarely if ever can feel and he was greatly amused by how he'd be given a cup of tea during breaks rather than being asked what 5 star food he'd like delivered by personal courier.

And there is nothing wrong with it. All depends how much the contract is paying, and most of his roles are "easy" in this case. Just go through the motion, take a check, job done. At the end, no matter how anybody is going so spin it - all of entertainment is about money.
If you want something different, go back to the roots. Do a theatre as an actor. Go for it. it is also amazing, but it is different experience than movies as such. I bet Statham is going for money. And I agree with him 100% (considering his background). Life is short.

I discovered this movie completely by accident. I didn’t quite get it the first time through. By the third viewing I was hooked, and have been ever since. Occasionally I’ll drop a quote from this movie and someone will pick up on it, but the movie seems to be fairly obscure to the majority of people I come across. It’s almost like being in a secret club to have a response to my challenge. Suddenly I and the other person will start trading lines and discussing our favorite scenes, and probably don’t even know each other’s names….
