That he's also an American makes the performance almost incomprehensibly good. I think Pitt himself said he loved the whole 'Britishness' of the set up. He loved not being given full Hollywood mobile homes and a staff of servants, felt 'normal' in a way he rarely if ever can feel and he was greatly amused by how he'd be given a cup of tea during breaks rather than being asked what 5 star food he'd like delivered by personal courier.

@Cock McBalls - The answer to that is simple. He will never be Partick Stewart or Kenneth Branagh. So what. He knows it too. And he is OK with it. Why? Becaue of... money. And there is nothing wrong with it. All depends how much the contract is paying, and most of his roles are "easy" in this case. Just go through the motion, take a check, job done. At the end, no matter how anybody is going so spin it - all of entertainment is about money.
If you want something different, go back to the roots. Do a theatre as an actor. Go for it. it is also amazing, but it is different experience than movies as such. I bet Statham is going for money. And I agree with him 100% (considering his background). Life is short.

I'm still in touch with a few of my old class group, including some of the Traveller lads.

10 out of 10 Brad Pitts. accent . I was in USA 1981 and told by someone in Utah, that in America "We have a lot of Accents" . I duly informed her. The Uk 900 miles long probably had more than the whole of the USA. Brads accent is so good it needs subtitles.
