    In the end I returned my Vive Pro 2 as well. Like you said, glare is bad (similar to Index). Secondly I did feel the same about clarity when directly comparing G2 to VP2 - G2 definitely feels clearer and sharper. I think it's because of VP2 lenses and maybe pixel density might be slightly worse as well? VP2 image feels "soft".
    I was disappointed by Pimax 8KX and now VP2. Despite G2's limited FOV (98 hFOV and 90 vFOV for me) I still like it the best. Obviously the largest FOV (Pimax) means nothing, if everything else sucks and the highest resolution (VP2) again means little, if the lenses are cannot properly deliver that high res image to your eyes.
    I only wish I could get my hands on Varjo VR-3, that'd be awesome.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Год назад

      @@SquiggyWigginzHi Squiggly, as I mentioned on the other comment I don't think any specific VR headset is going to help with your motion sickness, now if you were getting a lot of lag, a faster video card could do the trick. Generally motion less than 80fps (I say 90 personally) will induce motion sickness so you would have to determine if that was the case or not. If not, look at some of the RUclips videos on VR Motion Sickness because you will likely have to train yourself not to be motion sick as I said before. Good Luck, I hope you can work it out.

    this is concise and well said. i have owned a million headsets and i am sticking with g2 i have had it years. for you i recommend vr-wave prescription lenses. They rule. somtimes i loose tracking for a bit in game then it snaps back. g2 is hard to beat, i wish it had bigger sweet spot and fov though. For controllers in normal games i use index controlers connected with Spacecalibrator

      Thanks for the comment brainbb177. My new glasses fit fine in the G2, so no problems there now, but I did just buy some VR Optician lenses for the Aero, so we will see how those work. Do the vr-wave have the magnetics? If so are they still really thick? I was worried about that and why I went with just the snap in lenses. BTW, I still think the G2 is the best value in PCVR, so I totally understand your position. I'll own either a Pimax Crystal or Pimax 12k QLED next, I need to replace my Vive Pro for Roomscale and I won't go back to tethered so the wireless option on the Pimax has me intrigued. • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 года назад +1

      From what I understand the Pimax will give you that great Field of View, but the resolution pixel density isn't there. SO it is kind of a trade off between wanting to see wider or do you want to be able to see things more clearly. As a flight sim enthusiast I want to be able to read my gauges and I'll turn my head to see left and right. Also my understanding is the Pimax doesn't look clear out to the edges so you won't really get to use the full FOV, the outside gives you more of an effect of wideness vs. actually being usable to see clearly. Full disclosure, I have never tried the Pimax but I did do a lot of research and that was what I found out. Hope that helps.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Год назад

      Hi Squiggy, sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately some people are just prone to motion sickness in VR so I don't think any specific headset will make that go away. If you still want to work through it, there are several RUclips videos with suggestions that you can look up, but I'll recap the basics here. The big thing is you have to train yourself not to become motion sick in VR and it takes time. Basically you play until you just start to feel sick AND THEN YOU STOP. You repeat this over time and you should find yourself able to play for longer and longer periods. NEVER "push through" and keep playing once sickness starts... This can lead to a psychosomatic response to VR that causes the sickness and is MUCH more difficult to overcome once it develops. Some people also find the use of Ginger or even over the counter medication like Dramamine to help. I've also heard that using a Motion Platform also helps (but that is a really expensive albeit fun solution). I hope that answers you question and good luck if you choose to tackle this issue!

If you are running an AMD system make sure you update your BIOS if you haven't in the past 4 months or so. They fixed a known issue with USB dropout that was happening. Also, I have found that the plug on the actual headset can come loose easily and that can cause it not register too. • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment! In general don't really have any one setting that I use, I adjust for each game I play... As for the Index, I never got bought one of those (because the godrays and glare were too much) so no specific suggestions for that headset. But here is my process for setting up my headset to game with my HP G2. I typically set the per eye resolution to as close to 2160x2160 as possible (native for G2 headset). I then turn my game graphic settings to either Ultra or High depending on how it is running and how much visual enhancement each setting gets me. I also ALWAYS keep motion smoothing (compensation) OFF... I hate what it does to the graphics (In Elite Dangerous it makes my dashboard look like it is melting whenever my warning lights flash on and off). Then if the game is running at 90fps, I slowly bump up the resolution in Steam for some oversampling. Just as a tip, typically shadows and "atmospherics" seem to hit the GPU the hardest (after oversampling) so those are the first things to turn down if you are having performance issues. I do everything in SteamVR and pretty much leave WMR at default. I hope that helps answer your question, and thanks for watching my video.

      @@ecevansevans2566 Yes everything is SteamVR not OpenXr but I'd assume you could do either and achieve the same result. No motion smoothing in Steam VR. • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 года назад +5

      Thanks for the question. It is under the Steam VR settings, there is a slider that sets the "Resolution Per Eye". It ended up being 64% for the HP G2. The 100% setting typically includes oversampling, but for me I'd rather get the performance so I typically set the slider to the actual resolution of the headset itself. In this case, I bumped it up to actually more that the VIVE PRO 2 so that the video card was pushing roughly the same pixels for both headsets. That was one thing that really surprised me, even with a slightly higher resolution setting, the HP G2 still outperformed the VIVE Pro 2 by almost 10 fps.

    Do you need the full package or just the headset to use the vive pro2? Does it support a hand motion?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  3 года назад +1

      You will need base stations for tracking to get the headset to work. It can use the old Valve lighthouses v.1 or v.2. Also no hand tracking... you will need controllers. Honestly if you are not upgrading from a previous valve VR system, it isn't worth the money for this as you will likely spend well over $1000 just to get it all working. There are MUCH better headset options for that kind of money. Right now the HP Reverb G2 is under $500 and comes with everything you need minus the computer. The only way to even consider the Vive Pro 2 would be an upgrade from one of the old systems so you don't have to buy anything else.

    Great video, the Vive Pro 2 doesn't surprise me, I had the OG Vive and after that experience and seeing how HTC always seem to mess up something in their headsets (mostly the optics), I swore to myself I'd never buy another HTC headset ever again. The G2 sounds good but it being a WMR headset, it's probably great for Sims but not much else with the crappy controllers and tracking (I have a Odyssey Plus sitting in it's box probably to never see the light of day again). At this time, I am using a Valve Index and love it, I also have a Oculus Quest-2 on a different computer which I also like for PCVR over link cable.
    Keep up the great work! :)

      Thanks for the comments, much appreciated since we are a new channel! We can only hope Valve has an Index 2 on the horizon, I think they are our best hope at getting it right. Also hoping Varjo comes out with a consumer model of their VR-3 headset... Time will tell.

      @@GYGOtv Agreed, it would be great if Valve could come out with a updated Index, better panels with better resolution and maybe even much better optics to get rid of the glare and god rays would be amazing, as for eye tracking and so on, personally I have no use for it. I just wish HMD manufacturers would find a alternative to Fresnel lenses, they are currently VR's biggest problem (Glare, god rays, fairly small to itty bitty sweet spot, etc). Oculus patented their Hybrid Fresnel lenses, and to this day, starting with the Rift-S, I think they have the best VR optics on the market. As for Varjo, a affordable model is something I'll believe when I see LOL.

      @@jackr.749 And as long as we are dreaming here... wouldn't it be great if Valve partnered with Varjo to use some of their tech (lenses and panels) to make a consumer version? Just getting away from the fresnel lenses would solve the majority of my issues with current HMD's. Or how about bringing back OLED screens with a higher resolution... I really miss OLED, I still can't get used to the "grey" in dark scenes (Hello Elite Dangerous) when it should be black.

      @@GYGOtv Dang, I really like your dreams!!!! LOL
      As for LCD vs OLED, at this time it seems to be a compromise, Pure blacks with SDE or dark grey with little SDE, personally I chose less SDE and sacrifice the pure blacks. My Index is gone right now for RMA (a couple dead pixels appeared in the left panel) so I fired up my old Rift CV1 (OLED) and I did notice the intense level of black. But that SDE especially with the much lower res is hard to swallow! LOL
      Oh how I miss my Index! :(

    From 2:25 you can see in the image on the right that the resolution of the hp reverb g2 is 2524x2472.
    it must have been difficult to get one, because it has a resolution of 2160 anyway

      Thanks for the comment Doe John. The point of the comparison was to check computer performance, so to make it as fair as possible I upsampled the image going to the HP G2 so the computer would have to work just as hard as it did driving the Vive Pro 2. That way it was a more fair comparison and if you watched, you would see that the G2 STILL performed better. So at the G2's native resolution it would have beat the Pro 2 even worse. Obviously the resolution of the G2 did not magically increase when I did that. Sorry it confused you.

      Now that is a tricky question... I still own and use my Pro for roomscale, and I sent back the Pro2, so I guess that means yes. However, in this day and age I actually wouldn't recommend either. I'd take the G2. See my video for beginners here ruclips.net/video/l61-oqyZZL8/видео.html
