    I have a P3 that I upgraded to SFU. I think the motion for flying is just fine. The extra cost is a little high. I felt like they should have been more transparent about the motor drop on SFU when cutting or losing power. They made no mention of that when they first pushed the upgrades. Now when asking about a fix, the answer is buy a new unit for 5 Gs with shipping. I am keeping my P3 as a dedicated flight simulator and will work out a solution for the motor drop. I built an SFX 150 7 axis actuator rig for racing for less than the cost of a new H6 and honestly I would never go back. The Thanos controlled SFX actuators are hands down far better than anything DOF Reality is putting out. I really liked my P3 and love my SFU upgrade, I just wish they would have addressed the dropping issue. I think they rushed that SFU to market resulting in a safety hazard failure when freezing or power loss. Emergency Stop should freeze the rig, not have it drop or droop creating pinch hazards. Igor and his company have always been very responsive for support. The price point on the new rigs is leaving Affordability in the dust. Great channel and I am glad you still enjoy your H6 SFU. Now for the love of God buy a Simagic Alpha mini direct drive wheel and ditch that G29😅.

      LOL, NOT the DD wheel discussion again!!! I would love to do that... did I mention I have a Patreon ( www.patreon.com/GYGO ) or you can hit the Super Thanks button above :) SO my understanding is with this upgrade you would get the ebrake solution that they implemented that would fix the drooping problem. The cost from the P3 would be $300 for both motors if you send your P-motors back. You might also need the $20 upgrade kit for the control box so realistically $320 and you have the latest greatest... seems pretty reasonable to me. Now I get that you are now doing the actuator rig so you probably won't mess with the P3 at this point but can I ask you what your maximum motion range (in degrees) is on it? I've looked at actuator systems but they seem to have less movement than the H6. Thanks for the comment and I look forward to hearing more about your SFX 150 (I assume 6 DOF?). Thanks for watching.

    The fact that they didn't make the differences and the reason for the price difference OBVIOUS on their site actually staggers me.
    It would be so easy for them to market the difference with clear explanations on the product pages - even including images of the different motors to go with the explanations.
    This is the second time that I am aware of this massive lack of information about critical changes. The last one was the inclusion of the SFU upgrades as standard - a massive improvement that contributed to increased prices - with basically no clear explanation on the website when this change occurred. It's nuts to me.
    I just do not understand the way this company keeps known and understood (to them) details limited to RUclips interviews and videos like this one.

      I agree, I don't really understand why they did it this way either. That is the big reason I wanted to get this video out ASAP. @@GYGOtv Thanks for the reply!
      Of course I don't think this lack of detail/information is due to ill will or deception either, because it would only help sell their products as well as provide clarity for their existing customers and potential customers alike.
      If it is simply a cultural issue, then they would REALLY be wise to pay someone to provide vital feedback and input such as this point to improve their website. They have your help for the online outreach and communication, but their site also needs some help with missing information/clarification.
      Of course this may not stop with their website, since there was also the fact that the upgrade was demoed at FSExpo this year without clear communication to participants that their units would not include it if they ordered immediately or even weeks later!

      Great question! I don't think so... Igor says the performance is not impacted by the gearboxes and I can tell you we had the H3 jumping off the floor at the Flight Sim Expo before I got it tuned properly, so it certainly moves. I think Igor just doesn't think the reducer gearboxes are needed for racing so why not keep the cost down for those people. I have no idea why they aren't on the "universal" model because I would think universal also includes flight... but I don't work for them so what do I know? :)

  • @WilliamDeanPlumbing
    @WilliamDeanPlumbing 21 день назад

    I've definitely been enjoying my P6 and I do feel the little Cog movements that you're referring to, that doesn't bother me nearly as much as when I'm flying a helicopter in DCS regardless of which helicopter, there's absolutely zero heave up and down that occurs for when you pull up on your Collective or lower it down. Even with the heave setting completely maxed out. But I literally get every other motion tilt roll Sway and all that and it's fantastic and took me almost a year to tune it perfectly right, but sure would love to have the heave movement as well.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  21 день назад

      @@WilliamDeanPlumbing Hi William, thanks for watching! So the heave movement doesn't usually have anything to do with the platform itself, it is the responsibility of the game to sent the proper telemetry to the platform to tell it to move. So have you tried MSFS or have you tried other programs? I can tell you in Elite Dangerous I get plenty of heave when strafing up and down, so maybe try that if you haven't. I've only flown helicopters a little in MSFS but I did notice the heave on landing... Do you feel that? Also you mentioned you have heave turned all the way up... But have you adjusted the "Max Telemetry" setting for heave? Let me know and we will see if we can sort this all out for you.

      That is certainly understandable! I couldn't have done mine without Darrell "The Master Fabricator" helping me. Honestly, I think that is why DOF is doing this upgrade different. Obviously the natural assumption is you just send the gearboxes to the customer for them to add to the units. Instead it seems like DOF is replacing the entire motor assembly units with complete new motor assemblies and thus it shouldn't be any more difficult than originally putting the motors on the base to start with. At least that is my understanding from what I've seen and heard online. I'm hoping to get Igor back on the channel to clear some of this up so stay tuned and maybe we can alleviate some of your assembly fears that I'm sure many other people have as well. Heya! Your videos have been super helpful and I'm nearly ready to pull the trigger, but I've got a couple questions. About 2 months ago I saw the following comment from you, "Personally, I'd wait for the integrated motors that will have everything in one housing. We are only a few months away for that...". Is this the update you were referring to? I'm assuming so, but want to be totally certain.
    Also, I'm totally new to the hobby...like every part of it: VR, flight sim, and motion rigs, but I'm not a stranger to flying small aircraft and paragliding IRL. I'm looking for immersion, but I'm also trying to me mindful about dumping money into an unfamiliar hobby. I'm trying to decide between the H2 and H3, and find that point of diminishing returns for myself. At ~45% more $, does the added yaw make the H3 ~45% more immersive/realistic than the H2?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  5 дней назад

      Hey Kevin, thanks for the question. So yes, these new models are what I was referring to previously. The trick is you MUST order it under the Flight or Heli tab on the website to get these, otherwise you are just getting the old version as I mention in the video. As for the H2 vs. H3, the YAW is really a big deal for racing and traction loss in the backend. For flight, yes it adds immersion but I'd say negligible unless you are doing helicopters or maybe dogfighting. Where you really notice it other than that is when you taxi around the airport so it does add to that as well. I guess in the end IF your budget is the most important thing then you can probably skip... IF immersion is most important then I'd recommend getting it... but you will have a great experience either way. I honestly couldn't give up my H6 because I love all the subtle movement from sway, surge and heave but that is probably because I've felt them and would know what I'm missing. Since you've never done this before you will likely love it no matter what you get. What I can tell you is I was in exactly the same boat that you are in when I first bought mine and was really hesitant to spend the money on the H6... BUT I've said this 1000 times now, it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. Hope that helps, and I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you we have a 5% off code that will also help the channel if you don't mind using it. You can find it in the video at the end. Hi. Thanks for the review. I am a long time DOF H3 user and have always thought they were an amazing value. I am a bit overwhelmed by the upgrades and not tech savvy enough to work through some of the issues I am having now. I recently upgraded my Gen 1 motors with new SFU gearboxes. This created a couple of problems. First, I can not calibrate them and DOF has suggested I replace the Arduino in the control box. Second, this makes the platform unstable when I am not using motion. First question - will replacing two of my motor with the newest ones (that have brakes) solve the problem of using the platform without motion turned on? Second (and thanks for your patience), will these motors also need calibration when installed? I apologize if these are dumb questions. Cheers

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  11 дней назад

      No dumb questions here... Thanks for asking... I'm still learning about this too but here is my understanding so far. The new motors should freeze it in place... the only thing I'm not sure of is if it will still have a little side play because of the back motor (yaw) but I'd guess it would be minimal if any at all. Much better than it is now. This might be a good question to ask DOF Reality directly, just email or call support. As for calibration, the new motors automatically calibrate themselves when you start the rig so you won't have to mess with it anymore. You will need to upgrade that board in your control boxes for that but sounds like the upgrade will take care of your problems. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

    Hey my brother good to hear from you and see you. I’m so excited. They only thing is by time you add the tax and shipping for an H6 you’re looking at $9000 if I’m correct what I wanted to ask you is that I have the H3 with the SFU motors, but I don’t have the braking system. Not sure what does that do does it keep the sim from slamming down when you power it off?So I’m going to need the control box kit .So is it possible to do an upgrade kit the old way to make it a H6 compatible with the new motors if this makes any sense like I said price is going to be like $9000 with shipping and tax. Just wanted to know if I can do it that way, adding the new motors and sending the extra parts to make it a H6 upgrade and wonder what would be the price difference and the last question is it looks like if you order a brand new H6 it doesn’t come with the new motor covers that really looked nice. Is that right? Probably would’ve been better to email you lol ,if you would like to email me back with info that would be great. Also OK thanks my brother.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  21 день назад +1

      They Richard, as far as pricing I have no idea what that would cost but it certainly should be possible, you would just need that $20 board that updates your control box. DOF is usually really good about getting you what you want as far as upgrades so please reach out to them with your specifics and see what they say. As for the new H6's I can't imagine they wouldn't have the covers? Where did you see that at? The Ebrake system freezes the motors when power is cut so yes it keeps it from settling, but more importantly it stops the rig immediately if you hit the emergency stop button. Hope that answers your questions and we can talk more about it later if not. Thanks for watching.

    G'day Mark, would you be able to purchase just the DOF frame from Igor so you could use the old motors to set up a new rig after purchasing the new motors instead of returning them?

    • @GYGOtv

      I bet you could... I have no idea how much that would cost but I'd recommend you contact DOF support and ask. I know I got some additional pieces that I ordered when I originally bought mine. If you find out anything, I'd appreciate it if you let us know what they tell you. I think this is a fantastic idea!

      So you would like to buy the upgrade motors, not send the old ones back and get a new frame on top for the old motors.
      In other words you would like to get a complete new rig with the new motors.
      I bet this would be exactly the same cost in the end for sure.

    I have the first gen H6 and SFU upgrade like yours, that being said it would cost me $300 per motor (less $100 per motor if I ship my old motors back) plus $40 per control box for the brake is this correct (is shipping free on the new motors)? Without more information I'm assuming we just remove our old motor and attaching to our existing hardware with perhaps slight modifications in bolts. I'm surprised that since they are on the market now they have not released some videos on it working and installation. I know you will have a video ASP on the upgrade to your H6.

    • @GYGOtv

      I assume that is correct on the pricing, My math comes to $1840 for mine. As for the details, DOF Reality wants EVERYONE who upgrades to contact them directly so I'm sure you will get the details once you do that. I obviously don't know what they have planned for installation instruction videos but I'll do my best to help out if I can, and of course I'll keep everyone up to date on the progress I make here. Thanks for watching.

    thinking of getting one of these for MSFS. I have several button boxes I like using so I don't think VR is for me. Is it still worthwhile if I mounted a 34 ultrawide on the monitor mount they also offer so the monitor moves with the platform? Thanks

      @@rickybobby28 Hi, so first off No Flat Screen experience can match the immersion of VR so do yourself a favor and at least find a way to try it. But yes, adding motion still makes simming better even on a flat screen. Every little piece, like motion, haptics, HOTAS all adds to the experience. Also, please don't forget I have a discount code if you do decide to get one. I think you will love it. Something you can also look into is Mixed Reality, it combines VR with the ability to see your real controls, but it is a little expensive right now. Thanks for the question I hope this helps.

    I posted my thoughts on the poor value of this upgrade as it is currently offered over on Mark @ Simhanger's youtube video of this upgrade here ruclips.net/video/zchGMANYm0I/видео.html
    In short, return shipping costs to many areas of the world pretty much negates the savings of returning the motors. Also we are paying for motors we don't need, which is a large driver of the high shipping cost. I have asked DOF Reality if it would be possible to pay the $100 they are charging to add these new gearboxes to a new order and just get the gearboxes only sent to me and I will fit them myself, noting one needs to have some mechanical skills to be able to do so themselves. This would reduce the upgrade cost by nearly 1/3 by my rough calculations and is therefore much better value.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  21 день назад +1

      I certainly can understand your thoughts and I know that was what Igor had intended initially... but I think there is some difference with these motors from our old ones because I know Igor had to source them separately. I'm guessing there is something that keeps it from being as simple as just bolting on the reducer gearbox... maybe we can ask Igor on a Livestream someday. Again for most people, the cogging isn't even noticed let a lone a deal breaker so for them they don't need to do anything. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

      @@andyakarudolfhessiansack7936 So you get $100 rebate if YOU ship your old motors back, and I think that means gearbox and wiring too. If you can ship them cheaply then go for it, that just means you get more from your rebate. I shipped some small motors used in Robert's Mod earlier this year and it was over $100 just for 2 small ones to the UK (without gearboxes and wireing). Also, for the H3 you only do 2 motors, you don't need to do the back yaw one. I talk about that in the video. Thanks for the question, hope that clears it up a little.

    Hi could you maybe assist me with some questions? I mainly fly DCS in an A-10 and am about to order a DOF system, if only I could figure out which one to get. I hear the 3DOF is good and can be upgraded, but maybe I can better directly get a 6DOF. I am willing to drop a few grand more in the beginning if it saves me the hassle later and if I will want to upgrade to 6DOF anyways once I experience the system. You have an H6, why not the P6? Should I just get the P6, would it warrant the extra money you think? I see difference in G's between the 3DOF and 6DOF, would I notice/need that extra bit? I see a speed difference between H6 and P6, would I notice this extra bit? I am not really going to do boat takeoffs and landings, maybe a few times in the beginning and to show off to friends when they come over. I probably will stay in the A-10. On the DOF site I see the footprint measures for the systems, but what area do you really need to also account for the movements and the stuf that is mounted on top? For me it is a question to either put the system in my office space, behind my current DCS pc, or if it does not fit I have to set it up in the basement and get an extra PC to run DCS. Much appreciateda as always

      @GYGOtv  8 дней назад

      Hi Ready... great to talk to a fellow DCS Pilot! So first off you do NOT need a P-Series unless you are running this in an arcade setting 8 hours a day/ 7 days a week. I talk about this here ruclips.net/video/-Di96UxJzuc/видео.html As for the H3 vs. H6, I highly recommend the H6... getting those little cues when you accelerate and also the heave when you land is amazing. If you can afford it, the H6 is a no brainer IMO. Now the H3 will give you a very good experience as well but H6 gives you just that little extra that makes it feel even more real. Jeff Weaver and I talk about this topic in this video if you are interested (it was from a game livestream so sorry about the zombies :) ruclips.net/video/lsPbbYEy95s/видео.html The BIGGEST thing if you are doing flight is MAKE SURE you order from the Flight or Heli Tab on the website (I talk about this a lot in the video for these comments). You absolutely want the new No Cog Reducers and the racing and universal models DO NOT have them. As for space, my H6 sits in about a 5x6 foot area (6x6 would be safe) and I think you can put the H3 in about a 4x5 if memory serves. Also just in case you didn't see it, we have a discount/affiliate code at the end of the video which will save you 5% and also helps us out as well. Would really appreciate it if you use that when you order as well. Pleases let me know if you have any other questions, and I can tell you there has NEVER been a better time to buy a DOF Reality Platform... this new model is the golden egg of motion platforms IMO. Thanks for the questions.

      @@GYGOtv Thank you I will go for the H6 then. The affiliate code will be used. How do you use motion compensation? I am in an Aero as well and no idea how to sort that out. Do you ever have tracking issues with the lighthouses? I am using a center stick so also looking for a good seat. Any recommendations there? Using a jetseat currently but will also get a buttkicker once they are back in stock over here in NL. Do you also use belt tensioners? I heard they also add an extra dimension? I think I also have a lot to figure out to move my controls to the motion rig. The new rig will declutter my desk, but will fill up my room! Thanks again

      @@Ready.A-10C You are welcome, and thank you in advance for supporting the channel with our discount code. SO I'm working on a Motion Compensation Video (have been for awhile now, it is a very complicated topic). In short you will want to use a lighthouse controller/tracker and mount that to your seat. Then you will use specific software (depending if you are doing OpenXR or OpenVR) to cancel out the motion. I LOVE Lighthouse tracking and still use it today for my setup so you should be good there. As for seat, that really is a personal preference so nothing to recommend other than I was looking at AndASeat as a brand, they seemed pretty good. I really like having armrests because I use them to pull myself around a lot when dogfighting. Belt Tensioners are on my Christmas List and will be looking to tackle that next year but yes I think they could be a really cool feature to add. Be sure to watch my videos on building the H6 if you haven't already... lots of tips and tricks in there to make things just a little better. AGAIN as a reminder, be sure you get your H6 from the Flight or Heli Tab... it is the one that costs $8000 but it comes with the no cog reducers. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and if you want to email me (email in the description) I can send you some photos of the mount I use for motion compensation.

    Hi I have the H3 originally with the gen 1 gearboxes i then upgraded to the sfu gearboxes, i like my setup but the only issue is when the unit isn't powered on the rig will move if i lean on the seat. my question is can i get the brake upgrade kit to work with the sfu gearboxes or do i have to buy the new motors.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  21 день назад

      The Ebrake will certainly fix that. You can contact DOF Reality directly and ask them if you can just do the ebrake as I have no idea if they sell just the ebrake part. I think the problem you will run into is the ebrake has to be solid mounted and that is why they added the cardan shafts and I don't think your model has that? Honestly, you should consider just doing the full upgrade for only $620 ($420 if you send your old motors back) then you'll have the latest and greatest but obviously that is up to you. Thanks for the question.

    If I have a p3 from 2020, any way of upgrading the motors without buying a while new setup?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  18 дней назад

      Hi CruelYeti, So DOF needs a few more months to find the right solution (likely the correct motor replacement) for the P-Series... What they are allowing you to do right now if you want, is trade your old P-Series motors in for the New H-Series with this Reducer Gearbox that makes everything smooth. You are looking at a cost of about $500 (or only $300 if you ship your old motors back to DOF). You will only need to change out the left and right motors as the rear (the one for yaw) doesn't need this change. I cover this at the end of the video. I hope that helps and thanks for watching.

      Great Question. No the P6 isn't really "better", the P6 is for commercial use (like a VR Arcade) where you are running the motors 8 hours a day and 7 days a week. The motors are more durable but the performance difference is negligible. I talk about it here in a Q&A session. ruclips.net/video/-Di96UxJzuc/видео.html
