Revisiting this song after I’ve been thinking about it for days and forgetting to watch. I can’t believe this isn’t more popular. This is my absolute favorite thing Brent has made, and most of the time I absolutely love anything Brent does with Dave. This was beautifully written and composed and I can see all of the work that went into this. All of the editing, training, writing, blocking, everything is so beautifully done. It breaks my heart that he hasn’t posted something (or given an update if he is) like this since this song. I wish there were more people like Brent here online.

Me and my best friend in school would always sing this song on trips. I remember he’d be Brent, I’d be Dave and we had to censor the swears or at least whisper them and at points, I’d do the acapella bits. Our walking back from McDonald’s on Friday became a whole frickin musical.

I haven't listened to this since it came out in 2014 and I still sometimes burst out singing with near perfect memory of the whole thing. Truly a cultural touchstone of the mid-2010s internet if there ever was one.

It's a damn good Zelda game, but it's not like it's as orgasmicly great as so many people make it seem. People just have their 3 pairs of nostalgia goggles strapped on too tightly.
Exactly. As someone who came back to Ocarina about ten years after it's release, I will say that it is a thoroughly enjoyable game without nostalgia, just not best game ever material.

Honestly this video is one of the best videos on RUclips. Conveying two different sides of the argument and the issues with each. Brent and Dave both have good points, but they're burried by blander issues that don't take a presence. Dave doesn't listen as he's wearing his rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, yet Brent is trying to compare two games in two completely different genres, Super Mario 64 and OOT, which eventually delves into a standard RUclips comment arguement, as Dave has a hard time explaining why he likes the game so much, saying the experience of it, and Brent hates the change, of his own nostalgia.

If you hack the camera in Oot you'll see that the 3d space is just a giant green room with the characters running around. The graphics you see in game are imposed onto the room.

The part where they sing different verses at the same time and harmonize at "THIS ENDS NOW!" always gives me chills.

I just found this a couple of weeks ago, and I gotta admit, I don't think I've gone a day without watching it since. Just so well done -- the lyrical banter between you and Dave is top notch, I've never seen an argument set so well to music, especially provided that the background a capella is so crisp and clean, and makes your voices pop out gorgeously! The blue notes are tactically positioned and the transitions between songs are seamless.
Probably my favorite work on your channel Brent, cheers to you and Dave both. This and Mario Land are my favorites, I hope to keep on hearing such awesome duets from you two in the future.

That's dumb though. The boomerang is a favorite item for many players, and the slingshot was a decent ranged attack until you got the bow. There's no reason to take items away like that.

The Boomerang was super underutilized in OoT. It was a super useful item in the previous entries (ESPECIALLY Link's Awakening), but in Ocarina, they give it to you for one dungeon and then immediately make it useless. Easily the worst example of a "One Dungeon Item" in the series. At least the GameCube and DS Zeldas treated it better.

Wow. I was 10 years old when I first listened to this song as it came out, little did I know back then that this video along with your other musical videos would shape my future.
There are some things about this video that I didn't really notice when I first heard it. First off: The acapella is really good and very nice to listen to, I much prefer it over if there were actual instruments. Second of the writing of the lyrics is just genius! Especially with tying together the " Stop before you say something you might regret " near the end of the song. Yeah i'm aware that i'm writing this comment almost 7 years after the video came out but I feel like I just had to say that.

It's not a direct reference, but the melody of that part is almost (if not exactly) the same as part of the song "Confrontation", and the line where Dave sings "This is just nostalgia now/You just weren't the proper age/Nintendo Power scored it high/its pace was taut, yet fun!" very closely mirrors Valjean's lines "I am warning you, Javert/I'm a stronger man by far/There is power in me yet/My race is not yet run!"

Honestly this video is unironically genius. The actual morals, the mirroring of Dave’s drawing and Brent’s against when they played the game (Brent as an adult, Dave as a kid). The acapella is gorgeous! Man it’s been so long but this is still a favourite of mines :’)

I always come back to this video when I'm feeling down. It's a great symbol of how a different perspective can influence your view on something. I used to enjoy games like Dave. All the wacky and colorful elements in a game sort of sucked me in and made me feel like I was in the game.
When I got older and the world started to ask more of me, I started to suppress that magical feeling and look at thing much more objectively. Games I once enjoyed started to feel dated and clunky, and I started to notice the flaws and imperfections in both modern and classic games, making it much harder to enjoy my time with them. Which is weird, because these games were designed with fun and accessibility in mind.
How I was once like Dave, I started to become more like the character Brent plays in this video.
The world becomes a dark place when you can't enjoy living it. It's really important to remind yourself it doesn't have to be like that. Take it easy, relax, and enjoy the things you like to do during your down time.
I will never stop playing this video over and over again. It is a reminder that a foul mood is all just in your head, and that the world doesn't end just because you have a bad day/week/month/whatever…

I still love the line 'Fandom starts with love'! So incredibly wholesome and explains why some people can be hurt when someone insults something they enjoy! No excuse to flame and troll, but there really is genuine affection toward these games!
The segment with Brent and Dave singing their own very different verses simultaneously over the same track is my single favorite piece of Brentalfloss musical wizardry. I can't get enough of it.
I know something similar was done in the Ballad of the Mages, and I wish he'd do more like these now that he's back in action. :D
