Idk if he mentions it but, the reason the game is hard is because no matter how far you get, if you run out of lives YOU GET SENT BACK TO LEVEL ONE.
duh, like in every other game of that time.
@@dushas9871 you'd be surprised how many zoomers don't realize that.
@Shep Proudfoot You millennials need to get a grip lol
Most def would destroy this game if that’s true
@Shep Proudfoot Who bullied you, guy
"You have to have a PhD to beat this game." "This game is what kept Blockbuster in business because you had to keep renting it." LOL I'm dead.
Yeah, that and Battletoads.
how about 21:09 he really made me laugh
Seriously i've reached lvl 3 graveyard about 3 times after playing the second 20 times to reach that.
Then you die right at the start against 2 hyenas and cause everybody knows the movie you know you're basically still at the beginning :')
At one point late in the stream (Pause within 1 second of 21:27), someone mentions that this is indeed what was planned by Disney themselves.
He's not wrong about the Blockbuster part - Disney told Virgin to make it harder to increase rental revenue, and they pretty much did this all in the second level. After that, the game resumes with its normal difficulty.
There was only 2 levels. Everything after that is a mystery. First level was doable, but I never learned the monkey throwing stuff, and gave up.
real xD
I was surprised finding out lots of people having trouble with this game, I thought I'm just suck
@@hafirenggayuda Naw man, you must never have talked about this game to others, as it's a universally recognized difficult game. There's no shame in being bad at it, that's the default experience. It's a badly designed game, so there's a good reason most of us never beat it.
@@corystarkiller well, I played it at mid 90s (old man here), no big internet coverage back then. I found out on late 2000's, when everyone talk about old games
The monkey stuff was so easy to figure out : different color... Game is not easy yet far from hard!
"Whether they've played it or not, most gamers know that The Lion King is hard, but what most people don't know is that the developers made the game extremely difficult on purpose. Disney actually told the developers to make the game so difficult that people wouldn't be able to beat it during a rental period"
I miss games like this.
Managed to beat it as a kid too. Took many "faliures," steps, to get there, and seeing this video makes it much more rewarding.
Me and my friend were convinced this game was broken. "The monkeys dont work"
As single digits i never got past the waterfall in hakuna matata. Took me until i came back at 14 to finish it
@@tenjenk i went back to it at 24 and broke my tv AND cellphone. i beat it eventually. 3 phones later.
Same never got past the monkeys
Atleast better than my big Brother, who knew how they worked, but never told me.
He played that level for me so many times, jesus fn god...
I think I got past the monkeys a few times but I had no idea what was going on and it was pure luck.
As a 90’s kid I can confirm that this was and still is the hardest game I’ve ever played, never made it to adult* Simba.
I came back to this game when I was 20 and couldnt beat it legitimately, have to save/load all the time
Bro, ALADDIN on Sega Genesis. Hoooly shit that game was hard AF. That and TMNT on NES.
@@danlorett2184 You guys are making me feel so goooood lol
...you never made it to Simba? The character you play as? Or did you mean Scar?
@@onomatopoeia7505 haha I meant *adult simba!
Yes. If you never played Lion King, you don’t realize how insane this video is.
Never felt it that hard...
@@psylohzoff4073 yes, its hard, but not that hard... I already finished this game as young
@@ReiherAllendi Compared to Tintin, Lion King is actually highly finishable for anyone who train for some time... I don't understand people considering it really hard when there was so much impossible games! Ninja Turtles...

I never passed the second level on Super Nintendo back in the 90s. This speed run is nuts.
Same
I feel like I got past it once and then died and then never got past it again
Btw did you ever play the NES Aladdin game? The first flying carpet mission I think where you have to escape the sand lions cave, sent me over the edge as a kid. It was so hard
@@aliquidgaming1068 I certainly did! Miss those games. Good memories. :)
Never passed the second lvl on sega Genesis 😂
The game has glitch in second level in SNES version because one hippo's tail don't swing so you have to do money throws 3 times to pass. On SEGA there was no glitch so it was much easier to pass 2 level😂
I played the genesis version and I couldn’t get passed level 1
this game was ridicolously hard and I managed to put it in the back of my mind for 25 years. thank you for triggering some good old ptsd i love this
I’m right there with you. I was so stubborn with these games and now I’m having flashbacks to lizards killing me. How hard it was to jump on the giraffe heads properly. Then deciding the game was broken because I had no idea you could go back through the water.
I've played and beaten almost every game for Genesis that isn't Japan exclusive back in the day. NOT THIS ONE, I've managed to pass the canyon stage 3 times IIRC.
LMAO me too 😂😅 never even completed it. Maybe one day… I definitely threw the controller in rage a few times. Wonder what AVGN is up to these days 🤔
Right there with you.
His the king of the lion king speed run master.
That giraffe level is the cause of my anxiety and trust issues lmao
:that last head:
lmao
i did figure out that part but i got stuck .... mostly at dodge the herd level. I did get to the exile lvl a few times but can never beat it. This is when I was playing that game on old 98 or 2k comps (can't remember which one) in the computer class as a kid - about 20 years ago. Good time
Oh my god I hate that level lol
The ostrich part without arrows gives me anxiety to this day
I like how the ending credits plays the Can You Feel the Love Tonight song, which implies that once Simba took over, he immediately went to work knocking boots.
The second level is the one where people can't get past because it's complicated and you got to know which monkeys to turn. My brother taught me you could do that and we eventually figured it out. The latest I can remember is those stumps on the waterfall. Anything past that I think we always died
For me, the hardest part on the level, was that ride on the ostrich. The double jump was veeeery glitchy.
I remember beating this game after playing it for years I literally cried and never again attempted to beat this game again
😆🤣🤣🤣
i finished this game more than once when i was a kid, i'm finding it was that hard just now. damn i was a genius.
Yea when I figured out how to beat the game the fist time I beat it a few times after that once I knew all the tricks.
I beat the game a few times when I was like 10 - 13 years old. Quite unbelieveable to think about now. Don't think I could do it again in a million years.
I played it on sega genesis and I got to the scar fight at the end but never beat him
I seriously don’t remember beating the giraffe part either. I don’t think I realized you could roar the monkeys to change them.
The funny thing is that it *literally* says 'Roar at Monkeys' at the very beginning of the level.
We were stupid children.
@@djmeowth where does it say that
Even if you knew that it was still some cryptic shit, there are so many of them and you have to roar at them and change their directions multiple times.
@@BigDomDefoort 1:18
I beat this shit all the time when I was 9 😏
This game is such a blast back. The ostrich jumping was the biggest block of the game in my opinion. After that, the game was so so enjoyable. A platformer game done perfect. I've gotten to the point of grown up Simba and left the save there cause it was my favorite part of the game.
Your extremely right!! The double jumping was very glitchy, it had to be perfect timed or we just hit that damm nest.
6:45 - I got this far but never got past it. This level made me just as frustrated as the battletoads level with the speeders
As a kid i did not even believe that you could play as grown up Simba in this game.
It was a legend among the kids
That was my driving force to move forward
it was kinda like santa claus.
Had it for genesis. This brought back so many memories...even the “it starts” at the beginning stands out....cuz I had to replay that shit like a thousand times 😂
Even all these years later it is likely the most viewed "level 1" opening of my life...
Even though I never replayed it once after that multi-months long drag to beat 😅
Because yeah I can't think of another game I had to restart 7,500 times. Including the point where I would restart if I lost a life early because you know why waste time to that inevitable game over if you need every available life.
"It starts.." "It starts..""It starts..""It starts..""It starts.."
I swear he sounds exasperated already when he says it because he knows how many times he has repeated himself.
@ 14:43 he gets from the start to the end of the level with that glitch. I had this on the genesis and managed to finish it after tens of tries and having a friend of mine beside me. Pausing the game often -like very very often - especially in the monkey and the "3d" level, to see what's next, was crucial.
I had no idea that Westwood Studios, from the famous Command and Conquer series. made the Lion king SNES game,
It even has frank Klepaki in the sound department !!!! looking at the credits
I played this game as a kid, and it took me a year to figure out the monkey level. I figured it out by riding my bike to the library. They had the first "internet access" in my rural community, 14.4k dial-up internet, and advertised it at school that you could use "Ask Jeeves" to ask computers questions that books didn't have the answer to! I asked it how to beat this level and the only thing I could find was on an old text-based forum of someone saying "roar at pink monkey" but never said the order or anything. That took a year of trial and error until I finally figured out you could backtrack over that hippo pit and go back to the first tree with the monkeys.
I don't think I got any further than that until Game Genie was under the Christmas Tree one morning. That thing forever changed my video game life. lol
oddly my dad figured this stage out and beat it when i was a kid. Seeing him play adult Simba made me wanna play it more and more till i finally go there. now im 36
This is bringing back some mild PTSD
Such a good game. Do they even make games like this anymore?
By game you mean ptsd testers ?
It's wild how I was playing this game like 18 years ago, and I still remember like "Ah, yes, this thing oneshots you. Ah, yeah, this part is unfair"
try demon's crest, much more infuriating
This game was hard and the stampede was bugged lmao jk
Lion King Game Producer: You made the last boss super hard, because we don't have an ending cinematic, right?
Lion King Game Dev: Um...I thought you said second level.
I can remember using my VCR to record this game while I played so I could memorize everything. Took me years to finally beat it. In my opinion though it's still not as hard as Battletoads or Little Nemo for NES. Took me ages to beat little Nemo, and it was no easy task.
Every jump in this game is a blind skill shot that you have to learn, then memorize in order. They would never make a game like today, this even as a troll move.
Only up, jump king, dead cells, lonely mountains, hollow knight. Just to name a few....
@@MichaelBricardowrong opinion. Hands down GTA San Andreas is the hardest speedrun in speedrun history
IWBTG and all of its spinoffs exist, the whole game is like that.
Try super meat boy.
@@MichaelBricardo I've played all of those and this was still harder.
When I was a kid I played Lion King, Aladdin, Earthworm Jim and Battletoads non stop on Sega Genesis and I had the whole game muscle memorized. Looking back on it now they were so ahead of their time. As much as I loved these games nothing will ever compare to all the Donkey Kong country games. I still play those with my wife to this day.
God I miss playing battletoads
Fighting snake Jafar was fun
Rumor when I was a kid that it just wasn't possible to beat Mike Tyson in "Mike Tysons punch out". I believed it. I never beat soda popinski
@@MassiveSwordAndCards yea I probably do. You and hundreds of other people.
Donkey Kong Country was the best SNES game by far. That's saying something too.
Everything about it was and is amazing. Especially the music. Maaaan that game was a masterpiece.
This one was one of my fav game as a kid. I beat the game once. Took me forever too. I spent the longest trying to find out how to toss scar off the ciff at the end. Scar could not die. You had to toss him over....
I was stuck on scar for all my childhood lol
YESS. I spent forever beating scar in the face!!! Beat the game later on the emulator era realizing the throw command randomly.
Yes. I never figured out how to throw them until the last battle, and it was by pure accident. But yeah, its the challenging ones you remember.

This requires a notepad on the side and typed commentary this is how awesome this game was. The most annoying thing was having to go back to the very beginning after you ran out of lives. I Use Timon's "It starts" only one person has ever caught it (at a party, they pulled me aside after and whispered I nodded, lol
The first big hurdle was figuring out the combinations of the damn monkey. In hindsight, an invaluable experience when presented with algebra later in life, holding multiple type of integers in one’s mind at a time, etc.
Dude. The First frame after the wilderbeast level brought back so many memories. The relief and sheer joy of beating that level, this image sticks on my head.
The hunting for lives and saving them for the opportunity to try again at the part that you missed at was so very brutal.
Second was the wildebeest level.
The HARDEST one Hakuna Matata was HARDEST AF LEVEL OF ALL TIME, BAR NONE. The Gorilla and waterfall were batshit insane was the worst ever and impossible. The fact that you had to START ALL THE WAY BACK was horrible.
The reddish level with the lava you had to look for when the covers went down and through trial and error find out the ones that sent you off advancing or dying.
He just stands there at the end because the developers know they made a hard AF game and are letting you relish in the accomplishment of beating the game. The only way to beat Scar at the end is to throw him off. You can beat the crap ot of him all the time he still is going to do the annoying grab/swipe/counter.
The soundtrack can not be underestimated. The leitmotifs of various sections from the movie expanded upon and looped for video game music, was sublime. Looking back on my music journey, (didn’t learn till 19/20 and the first thing I learned to play was video game music, specifically, ocarina of time and it was because the sound was so ingrained in my head, I played until it matched the memory of the sound in my head) this game has a lot of impact cause of the amount of times one had to play the levels over just to get to the next trial/error type of the game.
This video made my week. He is 100% spot on, hardest game ever. I played the shit out of this game and never got to the stampede level hahahaha!
I'd contest that Beyond Oasis or Battletoads is probably the hardest game ever 🤔
Naw this game was easy, try ghost and goblins xD
When I was 13 I rented this for 3 weekends straight. Had to use pen and paper, but I finally beat the giraffe level in the 3rd weekend. After that I considered myself done and never touched this game again until much, much later. Then I got stuck in the waterfall in Hakuna Matata.
@@UltimateGamerCC what did the guy say?
I actually managed to get to the waterfall. Then, I considered it done too lmao that shit is hard. I played through the game as an adult and that shit was still crazy. I beat the game tho, felt good.

@@thespectator9637 Ok, I looked into my replies history and found the comment. Something stupid about asmon being racist. In all caps of course. Good riddance.
It's like terminator 2 on gameboy, you had to destroy weird defense tower IN A PRECISE ORDER to finally finish it, it stayed 3 years blocked on the 4 first minutes of the game...
Beat this game. Owned it. Parents bought it for my sister. We soon found out it’s one of the hardest games ever made. Took months to beat this game. The stampede level is one of the hardest levels in the gaming if you actually try to avoid the buffalos and rocks. It’s up there with the Battletoads level.
This game was ridiculous . Had it on Sega. It still haunts me .
yeah , was on sega.. im thinking if i play it on playstation 1 or sega...
Noice! I also had it on SEGA. I actually made it to the last level, but never was able to beat Scar. As far is I remember, the levels overall where a little different than the SNES version, especially the "adult Simba" ones.
//edit: Okay, I just watched a Genesis (Megadrive) speedrun and there's no difference in the levels.
@@derbudz no, I had the sega and it was different. Last level totally different too, you’d go down through a lava level and fight him in the lower-lefthand side of the map, not climb up and fight him on a plateau at pride rock.
Sega's version is even harder, if I'm rembering correct
it's on the switch now
Haha, watching chats reaction to the "I just can't wait to be king" level is hilarious. I thought I was the only one that was traumatized by this game.
fuckin hated that level
Believe me, you were not. "The Lion King" was the reason why I stopped playing video games altogether as a kid, because I thought was just too stupid for them. This and "The Jungle Book" for the original Game Boy were ridiculously hard!!
I remember the stampede stage and the level after it, I don't recall ever making it further than that. This game was stupid hard.
Battle Toads on the NES is another game I remember being really hard as a child, although part of that is probably always playing it co-op and degenerating into smashing the crap out of each other and rarely making it past stage 2!
I was an absolute beast when I was a younger teen, I would clear entire blockbuster shelves out, beating this game is a great gaming accomplishment and goes to show how much games were naturally harder than todays. I also beat battle toads and ninja gaiden black…those were the days!
You’re legend!
I beat battle toads in front of my friends because they didn't believe it could be done. They were shocked.
Did you ever beat ghost and goblins? I still am still trying. I have been trying for 33 years. I have made it my life mission and would love for someone to join me on this quest.
Games had to be hard on that era. Consoles had content to one ou a couple hours playing. Today we have easy games of 30, 40, to 100 hours of content. In my country Brazil, we had one more layer to dificult: the language. Some games had important tips by text we had to figure it out by trial and error.
asmongold " i cant believe someone memorized this whole game"

17:23 "Wait is he AOE farming them?" xD
Lmfaooooo I’m dead 😂😂😂
15:50 you don't have to know it, it's just how the level finishes... Not a glitch, just the way it goes! When I was 10 I was finishing the game in less than 2h ^^ Along with some other not easy platform games I don't remember the names...
Think about this: Westwood Studios, the company that made The Lion King, also made the Command and Conquer series.

@@GGamersUnited Okay that makes more sense, probably because when he played he went through the level how you're supposed to. That makes way more sense now, thanks
I don’t know why people keep saying that this game is hard! It is certainly above average but is not comparable to games like Battletoads!
Furthest I ever got was Hakuna Matata, and lost my last life at the waterfall with the falling logs. I think that was the last time I ever played it. The patience and mental duress learning the game to get to that point without speedrun strats like floor skips was bonkers. Like, even Rocky would have trouble gettin' back in it after that kind of setback. The people who have actually beaten this game are terrifying, and deserve some type evaluation because they hold the mental power to alter the course of the world for either good or ill if left to their own devices, and I fear which way they lean after the experience of this game.
I remember playing this game as a kid and just grinding HOURS trying to beat this shit. When I finally did, I felt something akin to joy, but it was really a sense of “fuck this game, but it was fun”

Sounds like the experience I had when after finishing first Daark Souls game.
After beating it multiple times, I remember the logs on the waterfalls on Hakuna Matata, and either the Hyenas or Scar in the final battle that gave me the most trouble. It might have been the difficulty of NES games when we were younger that forged us into og gamers.
I played both SNES and Sega and found the Sega version easier
14:32 WOW he just cut past all the worst parts in the game
We played Hercules a lot, but my brother recently pointed out that while we got FAR we never actually beat the final boss. And not because we truly got stuck, we just moved on. So he went back and beat it some months ago, for completionist reasons. Overall we were more stuck on Punch Out. I remember my brother always threw me the controller for Spopovich, because he could never figure him out. And I threw it to him for the guy with the turban. Ironically I actually got us past the 2nd turban guy the first time. And then we kept using me for the 2nd turban guy, and him for the first.
Both of us loved to relax and beat fatty tho, he was sooo easy.
This game I mostly just tried out a bit at a friend's place. I don't think I got past the 2nd lvl. But I know I saw him play at the adult stage. At the time we had our first Playstation and N64, and we were playing more Mario and Tekken 3.
For the people that never played this game:
Yes, this game is freaking hard. Here are a few reasonst why:
- Very limited amount of health, lifes and continues. A lot of them are hidden. The dude in the speedrun doesn't take much damage because he played it a billion times, but as a kid it is a different story and you WILL take damage in certain stages.
- Very limited amount of healing. A few Scarabs/Bugs heal you, but they are very rare and its hard to tell which ones are the healing ones.
- the platforming was scuffed. For example if you have to have to swing from one platform to another, you have to jump very precisely so that simbas paws grab the platform. it was not enough to just hit it with simbas body.
- not possible to save the game. If you lost all continues, you have to start over form the first level.
- certain scripted events oneshot you. For example in stage 3 when the water is rising, you have to jump VERY fast and super PRECISELY again to make it to the top. If you are a few frames to slow, the water touches you which instant kills you. Same for the 5th level and the first level where you are an adult. If the rolling rocks touch you, it insta-killst you. Combine that with the point i mentioned before and sometimes a single part of the game could kill your run.
Oh and there is one rock in the first adult level that hangs from the ceiling. you have to jump, cut the liana and let the rock glide. if you position yourself wrong, the rock insta-kills you
- scuffed controlls in the second level. When you are riding on the ostrich, you have to time every action super precisely again. If the game tells you to duck and you press down, your character ducks and is locked in that position for a certain amount of time. Then he stands up automatically again. You CAN NOT simply hold down to duck. And the double-jump had to be super precisely, too. You could NOT just spam jump two times in a row. You had to jump (at the right time, otherwise you die instantly), wait for a specific amount of time and then jump again. If your timing was off you were dead.
- Since there was no saving, espacially at the later leves you stick to you strategies and don't experiment around since that could kill you and made you lose your run
- NO INTERNET. A few mechanics where not obvious at all...Examples: Shouting at the red Monkeys in Level 2, how to beat the boss in the waterfall level and even Scar, the boss at the end of the game was "strange". I beat the game a few times, but for some reason the last Bossfight was super strange. Sometimes i could beat him very fast. Sometimes it seems that he did not take any damage at all and i was punching him for minutes...And most of the time you were on your last try if you reached him. If he killed you, restard the game...So you could not even figure out why he took no damage that run...
Besides that, the game was fun! :D
-Jank fucking game
Played this for about a year, could beat it an mostly figured out the monkeys.
Was fun to replay for the reasons you mentioned.
It was a tough one.
I wonder what game took me off to a other adventure after this master piece
Scar is invincible. You literally just have to throw him off the cliff.
I rented this game back in the day and never got past the 2nd level the "wish to be king" level with the giraffes. I would've been less than 9 at the time when me and my older sister tried to play.
Funny enough I kinda have not so great feelings about Blockbuster because they took over all the other video/game renting stores in my town and no one see tp remember them. Where I lived there was a single building with Blockbuster and a rival called Wild Star Video. My family always went to Wild Star Video and only used Blockbuster after they took over the whole building. Then I moved to another town and they didn't even have a Blockbuster it was a different movie/game renting place that is out of business now.
Its literally dark souls of SNES. About the hitbox thing, its very true. I never beat the waterfall woods because I jump but simba fails to touch the woods often

I don't even think it's that hard anymore, I'm going to try again right now though lol
Not gonna lie, I do remember beating this game as a kid, BUT I did have an older brother and few cousins and we figured the shit out together. The final boss versus Scar you can even trap him in a corner and punch his face forever, he will never die. The last 'puzzle' at the end is that you have to survive a period of time in the fight and then to 'kill' scar you need a perfect throw. Like in the movie. I remember getting to Scar a few times but never figured out how to kill him, I think my cousin figured out he can only be killed if thrown.
Beat the PC version of this. It looks pretty much the same but not sure if there is level changes. The game follows the story of the first movie, face off against Scar at the end. The Aladdin game was similar to this also.
I'll never forget how much my siblings and I freaked out when I finally killed scar and heard simbra roar from atop pride rock. It was an incredible feeling of triumph after months of effort between us all. Forever memories... damn we gettin older fam. Good times
Did you had to restart if you die
@@MiniNinja258 If you die with no lives left, you startat the very beginning of the game. There aren't any saves.
@@HashimotoDatsu ouch that sucks
I got up to the Hakuna Matata level consistently, this lvl was my Everest when I was a kid. The waterfall and that damn gorilla. Only once or twice was I able to get to the last lvl, honestly it was the Hakuna Matata one that kept me from finishing it, it took me sooo much to beat it that I rarely played the last lvls and the damn labyrinth at the end was just a time sink.
That fucking waterfall. I could get to it but not past it. My stepbrother got past it *once* but we couldn't get past Simba's Return.
Wait if u died did it send u back to the beginning????
The minigame where the bugs fall and you have to eat them with the pig was my favorite part :D
@@tasor1186 yep. all the way to level 1.
Yeah, Hakuna Matata was my bane as a kid. I remember outright memorizing the rest of the game up to that point, but never figuring out how to get through that level.
That waterfall level was insane and when I finally did it, I got adult simba. One of his attacks used the bloody windows key. I had to play the rest of the game in a tiny window! Nightmare.
Bro, this is gonna make me get back into my SNES. I never had a ton of games, but the Mario multi-cart, Killer Instinct, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Donkey Kong Country...I rarely beat any of them, but games you can play for years off and on speak for themselves.
I remember getting to adult mode and flipping leopards but I don't think I ever beat this one. No time like the present, when gaming hates its customers at an unacceptable level.
Its such a beautiful game with such great graphics and it's a shame almost noone saw the cool graphics bc we couldn't even beat the 1st level
Ending a brutally difficult game with "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" was bloody brilliant.
There was a Gameboy version that came out at a later stage. We had that. Never got past the canyon chase scene as a kid. Don't remember playing as adult Simba at least...
Different horse different race. This game is a casual romp for me. Dark Souls Remastered was the first souls game I ever beat and it was very, very difficult for me.
I remember beating this game as a kid. I didn't think much of it then but looking back, I must have spent hundreds of hours trying to master it. Sure level 2 was bad, level 5 was also tricky, the waterfall level was tough but I remember the lava level that was pretty much skipped here being the hardest by far. It was level 8, no passwords so it was so unfair when you lost all your lives there. Took me forever to understand what to do in that final part. And then it ws Scar, again took me forever to realize I needed to threw him off the cliff. And again, final boss and no passwords and not an easy boss either. Tough game. Looking back, I would give up if I have to beat something like this now. Actually I would just look for a guide in youtube on how to do it and it wouldn't be that hard I guess...
Bro that lava level. The secret wall you gave to just know you can go through.
And if Scar pounced on you cuz you tried to throw him without him being stunned... You caught the hands... till you died
@@spadez8618 Actually i beat Scar easily after throwing him by chance i understood what had to be done, it was a 1st try on Scar but the game was quite tricky in a lot of parts, like the volcano rocks falling, i think the last boss was easy compared to the levels which were annoying if you had to restart due to no lives but in these games repeat till perfection was the way.
Same, never thought of it as super difficult until a year or two ago when I heard ppl talk about it. Looking back it probarbly was a lot harder than I think it is.
Compared to this X-COM TFTD looks like a game for todlers.
"Is he AOE farming them?" cracked me up 🤣🤣
This and Aladdin are the holy grails of hard games that gave absolutely no mercy and were the definition of having to grind to complete it just like the movie.
Such a good game, I reached Scar when I first played it, but never realized I could throw him, got super frustrated and quit. Only a couple of years ago I realized you need to throw him (and learned how to throw him) so I finished it lol. I played it on MsDOS, and actually lots of games had some type of trick right at the end so I never finished most of them (looking at you Prince of Persia and your invisible platforms). Feels good to be able to get back to them and actually finish them.
The co creator of this channel used to speed run The Lion King and wanted to do it on YT. She was in the hospital a lot and not with us anymore. We never did decide on a channel name.
Sorry for your loss.
@@AngelicBeatdown Thanks I appreciate it. I try not to bring it up much and I probably shouldn't but the memory tugs at the heart strings just a bit.
Im so sorry, life is so god damn unforgiving some times

All I remember is having nightmares about purple monkeys throwing me around in a circle. I can honestly say I have never seen anything after. My motivation to complete the game tarnished after hours and days. Luckily, many more hopes and dreams followed and now I have alcohol to put me to rest. God bless all.
LOL
Born in the 80’s and I played this on my SEGA. Never knew the stampede level existed
The giraffe head level of this and the car level on the toy story game were the most difficult gaming experiences of all time.
I used to love this game so much, the soundtrack was beyond godlike for a kid at the time
Imagine being a kid playing this at a church with all your friends during youth group
A lot of, "gosh, darn, dang," in place of other things.
This game caused many late fees from renting it.

had a fantastic experience with disney games for the sega genesis back in the day, and it was no different with lion king. No one complained about its difficulty and I remember beating the game the first time I rented it.
The part where the guy just beats the crap out of the hyenas is hilarious.
"It starts." From Timone at the beginning triggered unwanted memories of the countless times I failed this game. I hated the Graveyard and Scar's stage the most. Losing to Scar and getting kicked back to "It starts." Used to make me rage.
Asmongold does the opposite of a speedrun, a longrun. He makes a 12 minute speedrun into a 24 minute video lol
Simba at the end, "THIS IS MA HOUSE, TIGGA"!
I only got to Simba's exile lvl 2 times when I was a kid. The horror, the pain, the anger towards this boulder.. See they trick you into thinking lvl has simple mobs in it and then you just get smashed and have to deal with it. It's what made us 90th kids tough. Pity I didn't know of any frame exploits or cheats back in the days. Seeing how this dude beats the shit out of the game finally gave me peace.
My mom who was in her early twenties at the time got all the way until the final battle with scar but could never figure how to beat the level.
Cuz the game never rly teaches u how to yeet enemies
I literally beat that last part by accident
@@houseburner1801 I yeeted him, but never over the edge. So I just kept fighting him. Forever. Called a 1-800 game helpline to learn how to beat him. I was 7.
This and Battletoads on the NES made me into the gamer I am today.
For me it was TMNT: Turtles in time.
Man, battletoads in battle maniac, the jet bike stage. Fuck that. Lol
That turbo tunnel level of battletoads was a nightmare, I just gave up on that.
yes man! me too! battletoads is harder than this. i was able beat the lion king a handful of times. i never was able to beat battletoads.
I beat the Genesis version a few times as a kid. There were definitely tough parts like the waterfall in Hakuna Matata, but I also cut my teeth on the Atari 2600 which had some of the most difficult and cryptic games.
I remember playing this game, the Aladdin game, and the Jungle Book game. All of them were hard
Thanks for this Asmon! So sentimental, happy to share in it with you. Played this at my Grandma's house after elementary school, she was cool. Would beat me in fighting games and racing games. This game reminds me of Bubsy, one of her favorites and mine. She probably could would've held the speed run record haha.
Westwood Studios, the best game company to have ever existed.
As proven by your dope ass Dune 2 avatar. I remember being in awe as a kid moving the mouse and have that fucker follow the cursor with his eyes. I couldn't believe the level of technology and detail. Best times!
@@Dominian1 IKR?
When I was 5 I had played PC games before but mostly stuff like Alley Cat or Dangerous Dave (that one gave me nightmares) so mostly CGA or even monochrome graphics and speaker sound. When I saw Dune 2 for the first Time I was blown away by the SVGA splendor and the genius soundtrack of the genius Frank Klepacki!
Ow hell yeah westwood studios 😍
you know Barry Green also programed all the command & conquers... red alert, tiberian sun ETC... legend!
Dam, I remember being stuck at the giraffe head level. One of the games I played the least but remember the most.
Oh my god I thought I buried the trauma from this game and then this video has to pop into my recommended.
I couldn’t get past a young Simba parkour level 🤣
Wildebeest stampede was the toughest part for me. After beating that part a few times the stress of the rest of the game got easier. It was like the speedbikes in battle toads on nintendo for me.
The carpet level from Aladdin bro
Why you lyin? The game doesn't even get hard until after the stamped.
Did you beat battletoads?
@@nikcali once. Never since, never again. It was pretty fun, though. I died so many times on the speeder level I eventually just cleared it by having the whole thing memorized =_=
I think a lot of people saying this game was easy just watched someone else do it or read a guide then of course it's easy, the difficulty is understanding wtf is going on/what you're supposed to do, and the screwy hitboxes/collision, not necessarily the timing itself. I probably was too young when I played this but it took me forever to figure out how the monkeys worked and even then it seemed like random luck and somehow always got screwed by the giraffes.
That Guatanimo shit was hilarious! I fucking snorted 🤪🤣🍻
Battle toads, contra, Aladdin, prince of Persia and lion king
What great childhood
I got to the end just once, and I don’t remember if I ever beat Scar. Same for Aladdin, i remember something about the snake shooting laser eyes from above, but that escape from the cave of wonders level was brutal
I remember that Hakuna Matata level kicking my ass as a kid. Those waterfall logs were torturous. It felt so rewarding to finally play as adult simba after that
Dude I remember renting Star Wars Empire Strikes back at Blockbuster one time. And some legend wrote the cheat codes on the inside of the blockbuster paper that was inserted between the case and the plastic cover. I remember having unlimited force powers and being so stoked. The Star Wars games were hard as hell too
10:44 if you don't kill the hyenas, it won't let you get into the caves. I beat the game a few times and it is hard but super fun lol.
Now this is what we call the Feral Druid Experience.
