@@skullmastergamer Because the internet is way bigger and more mainstream now than when games like Majoras Mask came out. I was in elementary school when Pokemon came out and there was no internet to find out things about the game. Your best chance was finding a magazine in stores that had heaps of wrong info in it. So at recess and lunch everyone busted out their gameboys and talked about the game. The internet really killed that social aspect...

@@heyoyo10gaming4 Every heart piece, every mask, every upgrade, every bottle. I have like 6 pages in a notebook tracking everything and it's a mess, I honestly couldn't tell you how I did it. I wanna try again tho and make a proper guide for it. The idea is that in order to get the blast mask, the postman's hat, and the final bottle, they all have to be on separate cycles. Everything else in between is just time management. The first day pretty much is the same as this vid, you have to get the arrows, get the goron mask, get bombs, do a goron bomb damage jump to get into great bay, get the zora mask and wallet upgrade before midnight, get the blast mask, save romani ranch. Any spare time in between tasks and before the morning, collect rupees or grab something you may have missed. I'm leaving out a shit ton of details cuz i can't possibly type them all out rn. I've 100% it multiple times so it takes practice and an unnecessary knowledge of the game. Super fun personal challenge!!
Glitchless speedruns of the game have completed the game in one cycle for several years now, but this is still a really cool demonstration and well put together video demonstrating the ideas behind it for sure! Good job!
@@Smiffic Thanks man! I see you have more Majora's Mask projects in the works, so I'll be sure to check back! Always happy to see good content creators for this game, and you did a really good job with this video :)
You can save Termina in one cycle of 3 days, but I wonder how many cycles and days cumulatively in Majora’s Mask actually went into knowing HOW to save Termina in one 3 day cycle! What’s neat about speed running is that it’s such a good example of how gaming intelligence evolves through the sedimentation of collective gaming experience and memory over huge periods of time. The amount of time this player played plus the amount of time other players played collectively to make knowledge of how to do this kind of run (and its strats) possible is actually wild.
That's the beauty of these runs. It was a joint effort of myself and my chat to try make a route which could work 😄 We've just collaborated again to make an even better run 👀
@@Smiffic Very nice, it's honestly kinda surprising just how much wiggle room you have in this run. Protip: Light Arrows are really really good in the Majora Fight and give you a lot more stun time.
@@webbowser8834 Wait you're telling me Light Arrows work in there!? I never knew! Thank you for the tip! 😄 We're going to be pushing that wiggle room even further in the next one 👀
I actually half did this challenge when I was a teenager. By half I mean I had a prep cycle where I did none of the main quest stuff, but got some upgrades and masks to make the actual cycle easier. (Bunny hood and bombs most importantly.) It took me like 5 tries since I realizes the graveyard issue too late on a late cycle.
Man thank you for doing this run, since I was a kid I always wondered if you could beat the full game in just 3 days, now we know is possible. Great video again 👍
I still think this is the best Zelda game ever made, it's so genius and unique, nothing has ever been close to it's weirdness that just works! Ocarina is my first and very special to me...but there is something about Majora's Mask that is hard to explain..it just hits different!
@@hajisaikuevery Zelda has its fair share of weird, MM stands out most in the series imo because the weirdness blends directly in to the game play in the most major way in the series.
@NarwhalPoop97 and yes, i personally know how weird MM can be. It's can be soo weird that you can get a very rare glitch/bug in the code where all the items you pick up are intsa-killing you. Wish we hadn't lost that cart
Headcanon: This is what happens when the Song of Time resets EVERYTHING, rather than just rupees and ammo. Link's gotta think of some crazy solutions over his thousands of resets.
The amount of comments in here saying “I’ve been playing MM daily for 50 years and have watched 150000 speedruns but never knew this was possible” is really strange, this is probably the oldest and most well-known challenge run of the game that exists. Not to take away from the guy, the video is well made and the commentary is on point, I just feel like I’m in the twilight zone reading most of these.
Thank you! If I were to guess it’s because MM has always been less popular then the other Zelda games so it hasn’t had as much exposure so a lot of people might be seeing this for the first time 😄
@@Smiffic Good have fooled me looking at the way people talk about it. People act like it's God's gift to the N64 when the reality it's kind of a "meh" game. It's not the WORST Zelda game, but I just never really got the hype.
@@Helladamnleet It's down to personal preferences. If like me you love the atmosphere and creepiness of the game, it's a 10/10. I personnally doesn't get hyped all that much by Botw, despite everyone claming it's the best Zelda ever (same for Totk, even though I have a feeling I will enjoy it more). It's an excellent game, but I'd take majora's mask over it any day, because it fits my preferences better. I like atmospheric games with great music and artistic direction, I'm less of an open world, freedom to explore kind of person, so MM is perfect for me. Saying MM is a "Meh" game is childish, it just doesn"t fit your preferences. To me Botw felt meh on many aspects, but I don't claim it is, I know it's because it focuses on aspects I care less about, (even if it does so amazingly),
I've done the 3-Day Challenge (as I've historically heard it called on small circles of the internet) soooo many times, it's basically the only thing I do anymore when I go and play Majora's Mask. It's honestly super fun to see what all side-quests you can complete and optional items you can get within the 3 days. Either way, it's great to see a youtuber talking about this and giving the challenge that much more exposure!
I love the way you took us through this story! The pacing was immaculate. I'd love to see some moments from your stream interwoven in there bc I'm sure you were hype when you made epona's song by 2 mins. Great stuff
I am thoroughly impressed. This deserves way more views than it has. The fact you used no glitches doubles the impressiveness of this run. You're truly legendary to have mastered the game to such a degree that you're able to complete the entire thing in under 3 hours (and again with no glitches!!!!) Hell I've played this game dozens of times and like to think I know it well but I still struggle with Stone Tower Temple and a little with Great Bay at times to not get lost, it's truly a testament to how knowledgeable you are and know this game from the back of your hand to be able to even do this. As well as the insane amount of planning in advance. Seriously the fact you managed to get the freaking powder keg and get epona on the first day with no time reversal had my jaw dropped.
I always found it fascinating that you can beat whichever dungeons you want in whatever order in this game. You can literally beat stone tower first providing you get the dungeon item in the other ones
I've always liked that about Majora's Mask and to some extent Ocarina of Time where, provided you nab the Bow from the Forest temple, you can just straight up go Water Fire Forest then do Spirit and Shadow in either order
@@PB-N-Jennyactually the only thing you need the arrows for in any other temple is to blow the bridge in the shadow temple (although someone recently told me you can use bombchus). It makes things harder but you can beat them in almost any order without ever entering another temple. Only other consideration is that without glitches you can't get to shadow until you beat water. Most out of order I have done is: Spirit, Water, Fire, Forest Shadow.
@@Hypno-Journey Oh that's cool, I must have misremembered something in the Water Temple cause I swear I remember using the bow in that temple for one of those "Shoot the eyeball" gates, it has been forever since my last playthrough
@@Hypno-Journey huh, is this a change made by the 3ds remake or is it's hitbox just really finicky on the N64 version? I never had a chance to play the 3DS version and I could never quite activate them on N64 with the Hook/Longshot. Either way that is a cool fact, glad to learn something new about such an old game
One thing I think people like about these kinds of videos is the challenge aspect of it. Just playing through the game without any “consequences” doesn’t bring as many stakes. Especially once you do more of these you can start publishing fails of your challenge runs so it surprises viewers who think you would only post videos of you succeeding. So I recommend continuing with these challenge videos because they do really well and I imagine they are fun to do as well.
I won't lie I love a good challenge 😄 Having a fail condition just hanging over head makes these runs so much more enjoyable for me. Will keep doing them, thank you for watching! 😄
i love a fun glitchy speedrun as much as the next guy, but holy shit, to show that this would be technically possible in universe by doing it glitchless is something else
Great job planning, executing, and explaining all this! I had always wondered if it was possible. Now I just wish there was an animated speedrun video of link just zooming across termina with the happy mask salesman watching speechless.
Honestly the most interesting thing about this run isn't even that you're managing to do this in a single cycle, but that I had absolutely no idea how non-linear Majora's Mask even is. Like, the idea that you could grab the Bow in the Forest Temple and then just drop that entire sidequest to head to the Mountain, Get the Fire Arrows in the Snow Temple, Skip all the way to getting the Powder Keg and have all 3 transformation masks + the Hookshot before you even beat the first boss wasn't something I ever thought to do.
@L Granted, it seems like a lot of it is more going in half-steps since you have to get a bunch of items necessary to progress, but it is still REALLY neat.
That is amazing dude! On my first play-trough one year ago, I needed a full three-day cycle just to complete the Great Bay Temple and you have finished the whole game without any major sequence breaks in that time!
I have played this game since I was 9 years old and I've never once considered you could technically do dungeons out of order as long as you have the key items required to advance 🤯
Many Zelda are like that. In the first game, you can beat several labyrinths without setting foot in some or all of the preceding labyrinths. Granted, they will more difficult that way, and a few absolutely require items from previous levels.
I played this so much as a kid, it had to take me a few dozen cycles at least. I can't believe you actually did it in one. Absolutely brilliant. I genuinely didn't think it was possible to beat in a single cycle without major glitches or cheating. I guess I was wrong. It's always nice to be proven wrong about what is and isn't possible, that with enough ingenuity and effort the seemingly impossible is in fact possible. I hope you have plans for some more videos like this because this was an absolute banger.
Love the work put into this I can’t believe it was 24 minutes but I loved watching you walk us through the game that’s already familiar to us but done in a way we’d never imagined we could. Love to see it.
INCREDIBLE JOB! I would've never imagined that this would've been possible with how much the game relies around you restarting time over and over again! Amazing work! Here's hoping you get to 10K Subscribers ASAP!
I remember seeing the schedule for this challenge laid out like 15 years ago. Crazy to see it actually done and now I want to try it myself. Question: Which version did you play?
Damn majora's mask is one of my favourite games of all time, but I never even thought about how you don't actually need to kill the bosses until the very end. You only need the items and then dash outta there. That's super interesting. I did think the speedrun was in 1 cycle, or that there was a 1 cycle category at least, but if there isn't then this certainly should be one.
I actually tried this when I was a kid and never succeeded. (I tried to complete all temples in order, which screwed getting to Romani on the first day), and actually didn’t know you could get past the well without getting the big poe from ikana graveyard on night 3), so I thought it was impossible. Thanks uploading this, it has changed my life and I will definitely give it another try.
Sees video in recommended: "I mean yea probably but he's gonna trivialize w/glitches". Smiffic: "WITHOUT ANY GLITCHES!" You had my attention, and i was not disappointed. Nice work!
Let me say, I am currently trying this. Getting Epona is, single handily, the hardest, and most stressful part of this challenge… After many attempts, I finally did it!! There is definitely a sense of accomplishment after doing it. You realize real quickly how precious every second truly is. There’s no room for any major errors…
Duuuuuuuude, I did not think was possible! Incredible video man, I was fully engaged the whole time with your narration and your edits made it so entertaining! 👏👏👏 next time I play through MM, I’m definitely gonna use some of the awesome tricks you showed like the Hookshot in Ikana skipping the ice arrows & the boss key in Great Bay, those look like fun to try!
Gotta love recognizing some three houses music. I’m sure everyone has wondered if this can be done including myself and I’m curious to see where this goes
@@Smiffic I don't think this is possible. The last stage of kafei and anju (sakons hideout) is 5pm on the 3rd night, you're in great Bay at this point (in this video) and once you leave sakons hideout it's already midnight on the last night (5/6 hours remain) If you can get great Bay done in those last hours AND get to the clock tower then you should be good. You'd have to route a lot better and probably play out of your mind to get it done seeing as you had 3 hours remain, maybe you drop the stray fairies? Idk. As much as I say this is impossible I'd love to see this play out. I'm sure someone could route it out.
@@Smiffic Could be possible with some smart planning and major route changes. Having done the run without the sidequest once, I think you could do it or at least give it an admirable try.
I'd definitely call the bomb jumping a glitch, but it's not like you couldn't have finished in time without it for the little you used it so GG... more importantly, great commentary and editing!
It’s definitely in the border between glitch or exploit 🤣 always seen it as an exploit but can see the other side too! Luckily there are other ways to do the same trick without bombs 😃 Thank you so much though!
This deserves over 10 million views. the fact that you made this happen so well. Made me using a strategy guide and cheatcc, seem like foolery. When I needed to know was.......................the concept of using every song and necessary mask actual made the game progress within the three days. You've made my teenage experience of this game look flawless. You're awesome, your will definitely blow up from this masterpiece. PS: that bomb explosion in the great bay temple was phenomenal to get the boss key. IDK where you figured that out, but you did!!!! Thank you for this!!!
As someone who regularly plays Majora's Mask Randomizer and loves MM, it was refreshing to see a lot of MMR skips being used in a "traditional" playthrough. I definitely admire the dedication put into routing this. It was a lot of fun to watch, and I may attempt it myself here in the near future just because... well, I love MM and it seems fun.
Amazingly well edited and straight to the point video. The first 12 hours are stressful getting to Epona. I never knew one could skip using the ice arrows to get to Ikana Canyon via the hookshot and I have played this game off and on since it came out. Thank you for this video.
This is incredible!! The amount of work and planning that went into this is astounding. It takes me more time cycles than I'd like to admit to beat this game, so seeing this is inspiration to improve!! You're amazing!!
Dr. Wily said that Link could get the light arrows to defeat Majora's Mask, but his chances of doing that without the Song of Time are extremely slim. Maybe that's the case if we're just analyzing the story, but you proved that so much more could be accomplished in just 3 days. Albeit with the Inverted Song of Time. If you tried this challenge WITHOUT the Inverted Song of Time though...
When I saw the title of the video, I wasn't sure, honestly! But you surprised me. I knew about a good chunk of the glitchless speedrunning tricks, but that jump in Great Bay Temple and the hookshot tricks in Ikana Canyon really saved you a lot of time. You made some really effective use of your time just gunning for all of the dungeon-required tasks and items and then the bosses themselves, and I'm floored by your knowledge of this game. I can see why the Lens of Truth was required for the Stone Mask, but I think it could be possible to skip both assuming you know how to make the Goron Hotsprings climb without being able to see and find the most time-effective way to sneak past the gerudos in their hideout. Although, I hesitate considering both, since failing at both would cause very significant time losses that could kill a run. Still, goes to show that even with some of the mistakes you made, it's certainly possible. I applaud your achievement!
I remember as a kid i tried to find all the fairies in stone tower temple but even with that guidebook i couldnt find all of them in those 3 days, even when i slowed down the time. Insane what you accomplished.

I respect that you admit that. I love these games and they were my first games, so it’s even more special to me to see you accomplish this. It brings so much pride and joy to my heart ❤️ fantastic job, and keep it up, good sir!
Aside from how impressive and fun your playthrough is, can you imagine how it must be for the characters? Like, imagine being Tatl. This kid, a child no older than ten years old, manages to purify the land and its "gods" of evil, defeat Majora and save the entire world in three days. Must be horrifying. Love the video btw, amazing commentary!
First video I’ve ever seen of yours, but gotta say it’s fantastic! Love the concept of this run, it’s like a speedrun against the game itself! Your commentary also is quite entertaining and informative, well done! Great music choices too btw, really added a lot to the vid!
I probably played this game for over 20,000 hours when I was a kid....after Ocarina of Time, which I still consider the best game ever made, I fell in love with this game also...watching you beat the game in one day is nothing short of absolutely unbelievable and I have nothing but respect ....I mean.....wow I remember knowing how to do everything, having the masks, knowing where to go after playing the game 200 time straight and still being barely able to beat it.... bravo Sir
Oh.. my.. God. Thank you SO much for posting this! You don't know how many YEARS it's been since I've wondered about this very question. That is, can one beat the game normally in a single cycle without any (major) glitches or bugs? I'm not sure if bomb launches count but let's not count those. That's normal, expected behavior. 100% is of course impossible, since you can't get the All-Night Mask and the Couple's Mask, and the larger bomb bag in the same cycle; relying on mutually exclusive outcomes (saving the old woman from Sakon on Night 1). But that's not the question you answered. I'm watching this video a second time, still trying to wrap my head around this. Again, thank you SO much for posting this! It didn't even have to be near-speedrun perfect, though one clearly still has to be a very good player to pull this off. After all these YEARS, I finally have an answer to this very question!
Dude I am so impressed by your video- how cool it was to see that this was actually possible. I’m sure this was very stressful trying to accomplish 😅 and kudos to you for the commentary and editing through the entire video, you kept it entertaining and I appreciate your hours of hard work

I was in elementary school when Pokemon came out and there was no internet to find out things about the game. Your best chance was finding a magazine in stores that had heaps of wrong info in it. So at recess and lunch everyone busted out their gameboys and talked about the game. The internet really killed that social aspect...

I actually half did this challenge when I was a teenager. By half I mean I had a prep cycle where I did none of the main quest stuff, but got some upgrades and masks to make the actual cycle easier. (Bunny hood and bombs most importantly.)
It took me like 5 tries since I realizes the graveyard issue too late on a late cycle.
The graveyard can be such a run killer 😆 At least you did it though, that's the important thing! 😄

I am thoroughly impressed. This deserves way more views than it has. The fact you used no glitches doubles the impressiveness of this run. You're truly legendary to have mastered the game to such a degree that you're able to complete the entire thing in under 3 hours (and again with no glitches!!!!)
Hell I've played this game dozens of times and like to think I know it well but I still struggle with Stone Tower Temple and a little with Great Bay at times to not get lost, it's truly a testament to how knowledgeable you are and know this game from the back of your hand to be able to even do this.

I'm the same! As much as I love breaking MM, doing this run without any glitches made it so much more enjoyable 😄
Great job planning, executing, and explaining all this! I had always wondered if it was possible. Now I just wish there was an animated speedrun video of link just zooming across termina with the happy mask salesman watching speechless.
Thank you! I too would love to see that 😂
You talking about TerminalMontage?
That was single handedly one of the most impressive runs I have every seen
Thank you so much for watching!
That’s what is so cool about MM 😄 it opens up so fast as soon as you get just a few items
Right!? I was the same for such a long time till realising it's just the items you need 😆
Might want to look into Ocarina of Time then.
@Tom Rees you can do the water temple before doing forest and fire.
Many Zelda are like that. In the first game, you can beat several labyrinths without setting foot in some or all of the preceding labyrinths. Granted, they will more difficult that way, and a few absolutely require items from previous levels.
@@tomrees82 This is also true! Same can be said for OoT for the most part! Which btw OoT content soon 👀
What if I were to tell you. I just took this run and made it even better 👀 Video hopefully real soon!

Wish I had seen that schedule earlier 🤣 had to fully route this one, This is the N64 Version running Nerrel’s HD texture pack!
MM is really cool that only the dungeon items are needed to go through the world, opens everything up real fast!
I actually tried this when I was a kid and never succeeded. (I tried to complete all temples in order, which screwed getting to Romani on the first day), and actually didn’t know you could get past the well without getting the big poe from ikana graveyard on night 3), so I thought it was impossible.

@@Smiffic I don't think this is possible.
The last stage of kafei and anju (sakons hideout) is 5pm on the 3rd night, you're in great Bay at this point (in this video) and once you leave sakons hideout it's already midnight on the last night (5/6 hours remain)

And you’re amazing for watching! Thank you so much!

Crazy well edited and entertaining. Can’t wait to see more of your content. You’re on your way up!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'll keep trying my best! 😄

Oh.. my..

This video was incredible! I loved every second and am so glad it got recommended to me. Great job on completing the game in one cycle!
Thank you so much for watching!! Hoping to have the next vid out soon 👀
Dude I am so impressed by your video- how cool it was to see that this was actually possible. I’m sure this was very stressful trying to accomplish 😅 and kudos to you for the commentary and editing through the entire video, you kept it entertaining and I appreciate your hours of hard work
Thank you so much!!
I literally clapped when you made it to the ranch
I'm glad you liked it 😄! Still can't believe we only had 2 minutes remaining 😂
The xenoblade chronicles music is a really nice touch! 🔥🔥
Happy Mask Salesman: There is no time left, but time is not eternal
Speedruners: Hold my Chaetau Romani
Mind-blowing stuff, very well done. Odds are I won't be completing it without the Song of Time myself, but perhaps I can utilize some of those time-saving tips in my next playthrough 😌👌
Thank you! Give them a shot, they're surprisingly very easy to do!
It’s crazy that someone with the amount of subscribers u have could publish so much good content. I have subscribed and wish to see you success even more in the future!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Comments like this is the reason why I try my best with every video 😄
@@Smiffic after watching the video, it made me suddenly want to get a Nintendo 3ds to play majora's mask, ocarina of time and a link to the past
Never thought this would actually be possible! And at the same time it's so stressful cause you have to hurry up and finish it before the moon falls (Heck I think you might have inspired me to try this myself) (and also the game looks beautiful in HD)
Give it a try! It's such a blast 😄!
@@Smiffic it's quite a blast if you fail the run at least
Decided to watch because I had read the BEN Drowned creepypasta yesterday, very glad it was mentioned even just in text!
I saw the moment and had too 😂
Amazing job. I'm not a fan of glitch runs, so what you did was even more impressive for me.
Thank you for watching!
There was still a glitch used though.
@@sevzgaming2891 True but given the mistakes he made along the way I'm pretty sure he could have avoided using it fairly easily ESPECIALLY given that he spent a bunch of extra time collecting the bonus sword charge attack that he super didn't need.
@@brood5184 honestly i dont know how much time that glitch saved, but idk, it seems silly that the video starts off saying 0 glitches are used, but proceeds to use one anyways. Maybe it could have just been explained better on how much time was saved, and maybe it was just for the sake of not resetting, idk.
@@sevzgaming2891 what glitch? he used some exploits but neither bomb jumping nor the hookshot are glitches. that's just using intended mechanics in unintended ways. emergent gameplay is not the same as a glitch
Whoa! That is seriously impressive. When I saw the title, I thought, “Psh, no way. He’ll HAVE to cheat.” Bravo!
Thank you so much! I won't lie I thought this was impossible without cheating for a while too 😄
Well done mate! this has been dreamt about by many of us for 23 years at this point! incredible to see it done
Thank you for watching! 😄
That is some *very* good music taste throughout this video.
Boutta ask other streamers to speedrun this run and turn it into a real thing. I love this concept , also would be cool to see if people have different tactics for the tasks
I'd love to see that too! This route was made up in just a few days. Would love to see what this could look like optimized!
@@Smifficis this technically the current WR for this run then? lmao
Any% Glitchless seems to have existed for years. And there've been runs done in one cycle for years, too.
