I grew up with my mom spending most of the child support on herself and her new husband. It’s sad to see how this system is abused and ruins it for those who actually need it. My mother was left a single mom fresh out of highschool. My father was unreliable and was involved in gang crap that made him unsafe as a parent. He didn’t pay child support for YEARS. My mom still went on to work two jobs, raise me right, and went and got her masters degree in college. Now she owns her own house, car, and is doing well for herself. She had to go to court so many times to try and get the money my father owned…one time we got a pay check of $10,000 and his STILL had money due! As someone who had a father who DIDNT do his job and chose to go on and raise an entirely new family while neglecting me when my mom tried to allow me to have a bond with him is really upsetting. The fact ppl CHOOSE to create such decision to fathers who actually care about their children is selfish and wrong, because there are parents out there like my mom who really actually needed the money.

Saw a video of a dude crying and begging for legal help to get out of paying his ex-child support. They have three kids and his wife just decided to leave him and the kids. Despite him having 100% legal sole custody of the kids he was forced to pay his ex-wife 4k per month. 2 years later and his wife hadn't even seen or talked to the kids once and his child support appeals kept getting denied since he couldn't afford a lawyer. Over 100k to a woman who hadn't even seen her kids.

After my dad left my mom and I in a foreign country, we only got around £50/m in child support, but even with that my mom did her best to support a good future for me and enable for me to still have a good childhood and teen life, which thanks to her I did. She doesn't really like living here, if it wasn't for me she probably would've moved back to our home country, but she's staying because I'm here (in my home country, child support is paid until the very end of the child's education, that means up until the end of University, so I am still receiving it, but I don't use it myself, it goes straight into paying our financial bills like rent and tax)
My parents separated when I was 7. Dad became a drug addict sometime after my birth, and he'd beat my mother senseless for even the smallest reasons and me whenever I "misbehaved." We were below the poverty line during that time, barely getting by while my disgrace of a father didn't pay a single dime in the child support he owed. He still owes $30k in child support even though I'm an adult, all of it from him neglecting to pay it. I talked to him once as an adult, but it became pretty clear he was still an egotistical asshole. Not all stories regarding child support are bad. some mothers genuinely need it.
That’s not the problem. The problem is people asking for unacceptable amounts of child support. Children are expensive but not THAT expensive. It does not cost any more than 1,000 a month to take care of your kid, and I’d argue that is DOUBLE what any child would need (with exceptions for the special needs and whatnot.)

Here in Germany its regualtet by law how much child support you have to pay. It depends on how old the child is and how much the person earns a month. So as an example, the maximum you have to pay if you earn over 9501€ a month is 1176€ for a child between 12 and 17.

I was renting a house from a young guy who got the house after his dad died, he also got all the money from his dad. But his mom was left out of will because they had been long divorced. Once he got all the Inheritance, then the mom SUED her own son for child support that was owed to her, because i guess at some point the dad just stopped paying it. Women who need it have every right to it. Even if a woman can easily support raising a child just from her salary she still should get that support because it should be equal to be honest. Child support should be ratified as a concept. If one parent has full custody (male or female) - there should be a standard amount (slightly adjusted in relation to brackets of income) that is determined as "more than enough" for a child to be reasonably raised and cared for - then - if the paying parent is known to have a large financial standing - a bigger "extra" (which would usually go to the parent) instead goes to a secure bank account that the child will not be able to access until they are 18. BAM - fixed it right there.
The thing is child support is only meant to raise a kid. Puttin money into an account for when the kid is already an adult defeats the purpose. Instead have a standard rate for child support and end it there. Raising a kid is not harder when your ex was more wealthy, it should be the same rate always, no extra's.

The reason why child support and spousal asssistance is such a BIG thing and so heavily enforced is because the courts make money from it. For every dollar your local court collects in child support the federal government matches them a fraction of up to the entire dollar. As usual theres nothing noble about the courts trying to help people, create functioning members of society, or doing whats morally right. Its all about what can make them the most money.

@@fatemakadhimahmed576 Local courts be it county within a state or the state themselves collect child support from a parent. They then give that money to the other parent. The federal government then gives a sum to the local government that varies state by state. Some are given 50 cents per dollar some are matched per dollar. So, for example I pay $800 a month in child support. I pay a state run office and they then turn and give that money to the mother of my child. Meanwhile the state office reports to the US government that they collected $800 dollars from me. Due to my state the US gov then pays my state gov $800 of which the county I reside in gets a share of. Not sure exact dollar break down. Multiply this by tens of thousands of kids if not hundreds of thousands on child support and then thats a HUGE amount of money coming to local governments every month. Thats why they enforce child support payments more than just about anything on the books. Its a huge racket for the courts.
Getting that much in child support must be sad. Not only for the dude paying but also the girl. Like, imagine waking up in the morning knowing that the government legally acknowledged you as a helpless, worthless, lazy, grown ass baby. I don't disagree, but remember that people also change, perhaps a lot of the women described in the video have good intentions at the start, but when its over all that history and love fades away and its all about themselves. Best thing to do is make sure the person has morals not just love cuz love can fade and there are times in a long relationship where its not fun/rough patch or not as exciting. A lot of people take that as "we don't love each other anymore" when in reality they don't realize they need to put effort in said relationship, and its not gonna be fun 100% of the time.
I live with my grandparents. My father has been paying child support for a long time now to my mother who is my legal guardian. For 4 years now my mother has not spent a dime on me while my father pays her money to go on elaborate vacations and have luxurious surgeries for herself. She even had the audacity to tell me I should be paying for my own braces after she already agreed to pay it in child support. I'm 16 years old. She only recently decided to pay me $100 a month. Edit: I'm now 17, I tried for a year to have a relationship with my mother before she decided to do some absolutely stupid stuff and insult other members of my family, namely my grandparents. I don't talk to her anymore, and she still hasn't payed me.
I just had Child support garnish my bank account for the sum of $2,500 leaving me with $87 for petrol, rent and food for the week and i'm already paying $1,100 per month. I was unemployed for 3 months and just started work 2 weeks ago so they took the remaining savings i had left in the bank account. They are so corrupt.

A prenup doesn't save you. It lowers the amount of divorce rape, but for example you can't write "no child support" into it, because that's affecting the child and not the wife (according to courts). And if you don't put an escape clause into it the whole prenup will get thrown out in court if something like that happens.

My mom spent 20 years working 80 hours a week just to make enough money to support our family, because my father wasn’t contributing. Yeah, my mom is stuck with a flat, she can't sell, that barely pays itself of. It's coowned by her and my father and some crap went between them, so he doesn't want to sell it just to spite her. She serves now and for the moment being lives in a room provided by the military as housing. We're not poor anymore, but it would've helped a lot if she could get rid of this flat and use the money to buy nicer one for herself than live in military provided housing. The $1,800 per check child support had taken its toll on him and being at a breaking point, he called my Dad for emotional support. The selfish ex-wife was wasting it all on expensive merchandise for herself and treated her kids more like hostages than a mother. It turns out you can't pay child support if you've been brutally murdered, and when the money stopped coming in, she just gave custody the kids to Marc's sister. Having a single mother the child support system really is a joke. My father having left for years is a single man with a stable income. For all three of us he pays 132$ a month 44$ per child for food, clothes, medicaid, rent, school, and more. Off the numbers it already seem impossible to pay for anything except for 3-5 meals. My mom being foreign and off a ged has to work multiple jobs and my adult sister helps work sometimes. We barely make ends meet per month and the worst part is that my dad doesn't even pay the 100$ a month. He is currently thousands of dollars in court debt and the court refuses to even do anything about it. The judge saw my dad's record and said that she gave him a price that he could pay knowing that he is not responsible. And he still can't pay that bargain of a child support. The system is entirely screwed and no one gonna do nothing about it.

I don't know how it works in the US, but in Norway (unless the parents make a deal in private) the child support is just enough to cover half the expenses of the child (including stuff like day care) which is typically around than $500 per month, and your income is only used as a max-limit in case you can't afford paying the expenses. I think this is reasonable, and I don't see any reason to remove child support. What's a bigger problem is who gets child custody, because normally this automatically goes to the mother, but recently the rules changed to make it shared custody by default no matter what (which counts as feminism btw). That said, it's possible that it's still a bit iffy who gets a child when it goes to court, but I have no data on this. As for spousal maintenance, it's very rare in norway, and normally it's limited to 3 years unless they've been married for a long time or the spouse is sick or old to the point of being unable to support themself. Moral of the story, accept Norwegian social reforms

It’s sad to see how this system is abused and ruins it for those who actually need it. My mother was left a single mom fresh out of highschool. My father was unreliable and was involved in gang crap that made him unsafe as a parent. He didn’t pay child support for YEARS. My mom still went on to work two jobs, raise me right, and went and got her masters degree in college. Now she owns her own house, car, and is doing well for herself. She had to go to court so many times to try and get the money my father owned…one time we got a pay check of $10,000 and his STILL had money due!
As someone who had a father who DIDNT do his job and chose to go on and raise an entirely new family while neglecting me when my mom tried to allow me to have a bond with him is really upsetting. The fact ppl CHOOSE to create such decision to fathers who actually care about their children is selfish and wrong, because there are parents out there like my mom who really actually needed the money.

Here in Germany its regualtet by law how much child support you have to pay. It depends on how old the child is and how much the person earns a month. So as an example, the maximum you have to pay if you earn over 9501€ a month is 1176€ for a child between 12 and 17.

If one parent has full custody (male or female) - there should be a standard amount (slightly adjusted in relation to brackets of income) that is determined as "more than enough" for a child to be reasonably raised and cared for - then - if the paying parent is known to have a large financial standing - a bigger "extra" (which would usually go to the parent) instead goes to a secure bank account that the child will not be able to access until they are 18. BAM - fixed it right there.

The reason why child support and spousal asssistance is such a BIG thing and so heavily enforced is because the courts make money from it. For every dollar your local court collects in child support the federal government matches them a fraction of up to the entire dollar. As usual theres nothing noble about the courts trying to help people, create functioning members of society, or doing whats morally right. Its all about what can make them the most money.

@@fatemakadhimahmed576 Local courts be it county within a state or the state themselves collect child support from a parent. They then give that money to the other parent. The federal government then gives a sum to the local government that varies state by state. Some are given 50 cents per dollar some are matched per dollar.
So, for example I pay $800 a month in child support. I pay a state run office and they then turn and give that money to the mother of my child. Meanwhile the state office reports to the US government that they collected $800 dollars from me. Due to my state the US gov then pays my state gov $800 of which the county I reside in gets a share of. Not sure exact dollar break down. Multiply this by tens of thousands of kids if not hundreds of thousands on child support and then thats a HUGE amount of money coming to local governments every month. Thats why they enforce child support payments more than just about anything on the books. Its a huge racket for the courts.

I don't disagree, but remember that people also change, perhaps a lot of the women described in the video have good intentions at the start, but when its over all that history and love fades away and its all about themselves. For 4 years now my mother has not spent a dime on me while my father pays her money to go on elaborate vacations and have luxurious surgeries for herself. She even had the audacity to tell me I should be paying for my own braces after she already agreed to pay it in child support. I'm 16 years old. She only recently decided to pay me $100 a month.

Yeah, my mom is stuck with a flat, she can't sell, that barely pays itself of. It's coowned by her and my father and some crap went between them, so he doesn't want to sell it just to spite her. Having a single mother the child support system really is a joke. My father having left for years is a single man with a stable income. For all three of us he pays 132$ a month 44$ per child for food, clothes, medicaid, rent, school, and more. Off the numbers it already seem impossible to pay for anything except for 3-5 meals. My mom being foreign and off a ged has to work multiple jobs and my adult sister helps work sometimes. We barely make ends meet per month and the worst part is that my dad doesn't even pay the 100$ a month. He is currently thousands of dollars in court debt and the court refuses to even do anything about it. The judge saw my dad's record and said that she gave him a price that he could pay knowing that he is not responsible. And he still can't pay that bargain of a child support. The system is entirely screwed and no one gonna do nothing about it.

I don't know how it works in the US, but in Norway (unless the parents make a deal in private) the child support is just enough to cover half the expenses of the child (including stuff like day care) which is typically around than $500 per month, and your income is only used as a max-limit in case you can't afford paying the expenses. I think this is reasonable, and I don't see any reason to remove child support.
What's a bigger problem is who gets child custody, because normally this automatically goes to the mother, but recently the rules changed to make it shared custody by default no matter what (which counts as feminism btw). That said, it's possible that it's still a bit iffy who gets a child when it goes to court, but I have no data on this.
As for spousal maintenance, it's very rare in norway, and normally it's limited to 3 years unless they've been married for a long time or the spouse is sick or old to the point of being unable to support themself.
