The Japan EAS Alarm in this video is specifically for Earthquakes only. It’s “calming” so that people don’t panic and also Earthquakes are common, happening almost monthly or every other month. The other disasters have their own alarms, also made by J-Alert, and the Civil Protection Alarms sound more like what you seem to imagine is an EAS Alarm. It’s WAY scarier. However, just imagine something. You’re sleeping in the middle of the night, it’s 2 in the morning, and you hear the Earthquake Warning on TV. Might not seem very scary, but this happens if there is a Level 5 or higher (Or if there is a long period of Level 3 expected). Personally for me, all countries do what they want with their alarms. Some of them can be pretty urgent such as the USA alarm (TAKE COVER) whilst other countries like Japan don’t make things too loud and alarming, as it could insure panic, which for all we know, could increase the death count (Okay, it’s a problem, but let’s not panic and we’ll follow procedures without problem). Of course, it doesn’t always help, but it’s something.
Japan's EAS alarm is actually genuis, in Japan music like that isn't really a thing its hard to explain but that alarm is very disturbing for Japanese people. Also the one you played is used exclusively for earthquake early warnings, the tsumani and missile alert is far scarier.
Fun fact: the amber alert was made by a mother whose daughter got kidnapped and murdered. Her name was amber, and she was found in such a horrible condition she was unrecognizable, and her kidnapper was never found. Rest in peace amber.
Yesterday during the California tropical storm I was chilling eating lunch and got a notification on my phone that an EARTHQUAKE was about to hit us. I was too freaked out to see that it was like 3 counties away and only a 5.5. I accidentally caused a panic in my household and my mom realized I was tweaking. In my defense an unprecedented storm PLUS an earthquake was something valid to be concerned about
The alert sound for Japan you showed us is actually used for warning people about earthquakes, (Earthquake Early Warning System) there’s something called the J-Alert and it’s used for BIG EMERGENCIES like missile threats, and trust me you’d shiver in your timbers if you heard that blaring outside.
@@ArquaticDreamer1994i found this video it shows just the alarm sounds but there are other videos of TV broadcasts of the alerts: ruclips.net/video/mlzGigIUgbY/видео.html
In addition to the alerts that come on TV, There are also these little radios you can buy that can alert you for any situation. They are called "Weather Radios" and they are pretty cool. Literally when any alert comes by, the alert tones are decoded for your radio to tell which alert it is. They alert with a siren built in, so you can hear it anywhere in your home. Whether it's a tornado warning or Severe T'Storm Warning. I like them and still get impressed by their technology.
Even the amber alerts are terrifying, what's worse is that when you hear them you know someone is in terrible danger and there's nothing you can really do to help them
Fun fact 🤓: the Japan EAS is to make sure the kids stay calm since there’s a lot in Japan so the kids don’t freak out and cry. And also vaules traits with their EAS.
The last time I got an amber alert, the alert suddenly popped up out of nowhere and the alert sound was so loud it literally scared me so much soul left my body, it was like a jumpscare
As someone who lives in Canada, our Emergency Alert System is 5x more terrifying. The red screen and the horrible noise that plays gave me legit nightmares as a kid.
I remember listening to music one night and I feel asleep with my earbuds on full volume and out of nowhere in pure silence the fucking amber alert goes off and scares the shit out of me
Same thing happened to me, I got startled by the amber alert and found out it was a kidnapping in a different town (that I don't live near close too). I turned the alarm off and went back to sleep.
Fun Fact: The three harsh tones you hear at the beginning of an EAS Alert are called S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) headers which contain the details of the alert, such as what the alert is for, what areas are affected, who/what issued the alert, when the alert expires, where the alert needs to be broadcasted, etc. If any EAS Enabled Equipment hear a SAME header, It'll trigger an alert. The long tone after is the attention tone, which is pretty self explanatory. Also, the reason the S.A.M.E. Tone is repeated three times at the beginning is to avoid potential errors during transmission that can be caused by poor reception.
This is actually something people should know, if you play an alert sound on air or near EAS equipment it can and will trigger an actual alert to be sent out, fake or not. There’s fines for this stuff too, I’ve heard some fines are as big as 1 million dollars or more.
5:42 as a music producer I can confirm this alarm was music to my ears. Degenerocity is clearly a lyrical and musical masterpiece. He's studied every level of music theory to create an alarm that has as much emotion and soul in it as this one
One time there is a thunderstorm and I was on the road and at the end of the dumb EAS warning it said” lightning is one of natures and remember if you’re close enough to see it, you’re close enough to get struck” I was traumatized after that.
“Did I get a text message? Ah shucks. It’s just an EAS alarm. Whatever. It’s probably nothing. I’ll just go on my day, continue on my afternoon walk and WHAT THE HAYL IS THAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?1!?1!?!?!?!?1!?!?11!?!?”
I once woke up before high school and I head that annoying EBS broadcast on my clock radio and I immediately thought Zombies, Aliens, or Nuclear Fallout 🧟♂️👽☢️

The Emergency Alert System has always fascinated me. When I was a kid I was horrified by it and now I'm both interested and also worried when it comes on. It grabs my attention and pulls me in like "damn whats goin on?" my interest in it got me into one of my favorite style of analog horror I still keep up with to this day which are EAS Scenarios. The shit ones are well, basic but some of them go into such specific detail and make them so realistic its so entertaining to just listen along for the ride. Also I'm sorry to burst anyones bubble but the German EAS that was used in that video is fake.
No offence, but it burns when I pee. I’ve tried rubbing it but then some kind of white liquid comes out of it, I looked it up and Google called me a homosexual that got an STD from having condomless intercourse with men. I have an appointment with my dentist, so I’ll be sure to whip it out and ask what they think.
THESE THINGS SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME AS A KID! I would ACTUALLY feel scared as a kid, I had no idea what was happening. It felt like we were all gonna die or something. It's hilarious seeing someone talking about this. Great work!
PSA: the Japanese alarm played is for earthquakes, and only plays when the seismic intensity of the earthquake is a 5 lower (7.9-8.9 magnitude) or a long period 3 (4-5 magnitude) the phone alert is a little bit scarier, but you should listen to the missle inbound siren on the TVs
That tone for the EAS in Japan known as J-Alert was an early earthquake warning. Their alert for a ballistic missile is scary to many and the same for a tsunami

I once had a leak in my ceiling, so I put a soda can to catch the water (because I didn't have anything else). So one morning, I DRANK the dirty roof-water because I was tired and just woke up (and then wondered why it tasted weird).
As someone (usa) who didn't know what the eas was until I saw one for a severe thunderstorm warning once when I was a kid while I was watching cartoons trying to get my mind off of something pretty bad that had happened in my family (don't remember the details i was really young), i oddly find the eas alarm nostalgic and like the vibe it gives off

"911 the sequel" IM DYING💀💀
As someone (usa) who didn't know what the eas was until I saw one for a severe thunderstorm warning once when I was a kid while I was watching cartoons trying to get my mind off of something pretty bad that had happened in my family (don't remember the details i was really young), i oddly find the eas alarm nostalgic and like the vibe it gives off
@cloverlovesscaramouche Hope you’re doing good. Sending support and hearts! ❤️❤️❤️ Stay safe!

PBS Kids would test it like every week and I had no idea what it was so I was just sitting there unfazed with an EAS on the TV
