Dragon Ball Super has been pretty good at shaking things up on fans and experts of the long-running series. It has time travel, a multiverse, resurrected characters and a whole new pantheon of powerful beings that make Goku look like an insect by comparison.
Then there’s what the fans really watch for. That’s right, those epic moments when Goku starts screaming and a brand new color flashes across the screen. A moment that sends you back to the first time Goku’s hair changed gold when he was up against Frieza. The new Super Saiyan forms!
While Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue both proved to be powerful and iconic like the ones that came before, both had a limited time as the coolest form on the block. Little did anyone know that Akira Toriyama was just waiting to unveil the true ultimate form, Ultra Instinct.
While there’s no questioning that Ultra Instinct is awesome and has changed the game for Goku forever, there are a few things about the new form that just don’t add up.
Some of these problems have to do with inconsistencies throughout the series. Other problems have to do with characters who have been left waiting in the wings because of it. Then there’s just the matter of how it looks compared to similar forms.
Regardless of how cool the new form is, we have to discuss these issues and see if we can’t figure it out. Here are all the ways that Ultra Instinct makes no sense.

Considering Jiren's backstory and motivations, I'd consider him more of an antihero. Somebody who fights for good, but does so selfishly, and on his own agenda, rather than simply doing what's right purely for the sake of justice. Kind of like Vegeta, except in Jiren's case he didn't start out as a villain.

Ultra instinct is based off of real world concepts that already have been studied by philosophers for a very long time. It's basically what many real world martial artists aim for, so yes, the concept makes a lot of sense. The concept behind ultra instinct is not about no longer controlling your body and rushing at your opponent like an idiot. It's the lack of conscious thought in fighting, basically instead of reading and responding to an opponent using conscious thought, the idea of ultra instinct is that all of those tiny observations and adjustments are done instinctively on a subconscious level. Pretty much every high level fighter In the real world does this, it's just extremely difficult to do without a ton of fighting experience, for the exact reason that you aren't just ignoring what your opponent's doing and rushing in like an idiot. You see a lot of this in the fights that use ultra instinct, such as when he literally surfs on kefla's attack to change his position in midair. It was a brilliant tactical move, and Goku didn't consciously think about doing it.

Me: Umm... no. They've been using their blue forms and training it throughout most of super. Goku learning how to control the form better and be able to use Kaioken on top of it while Vegeta being able to basically upgrade his blue form entirely making it faster and stronger. What they NEED is to be focusing on different techniques and abilities that don't purely relie on pure power which is what they are doing in the manga with Moro.

I’m pretty sure that in the manga Goku and I think Vegeta made a perfected form of blue where the form gets stronger and it takes less ki
My only gripe with how Blue was handled is that they never really explained its origins. It just kind of came out of nowhere for no real reason other than to make Frieza more menacing by proxy from being needed to fight him.
gurvmlk yeah like the only thing that they had to lead up to it is when Goku and Vegeta were sparring and when their fist connected it made a blue aura that was the only part to lead up and that was in the same movie as they used it (I think).
The reason for the angels having ultra instinct is because angles are not suppsed to fight back against enemies thats what the destroyers and other mortals are for💁🏾♂️

Dude you are on some serious drugs I learned that when you said that ultra instinct doesn't make sense in the real world but it sounds good on paper. Think about it like this when someone acts to slap you but doesn't your immediate reaction will be to pull your head back or close your eyes in just a split second and that happens because the autonomous movement in our body which is controlled by our spinal cord which is involuntary but our body just learned it as a reflex so just think of the speed if you can control it which Lets you perform things in split seconds whis also told goku and vegeta a lot of times that they lack speed which can be overcomed with ultra instinct just the power is fictional and speed too but to some extent in real world if you can rely on your reflexes it would be pretty strong
Well Ultra instinct is also known as a flow state. Its when you focus on something so much you dont realize the time youve been doing that thing. Even martial artists use this and they don's think of any plans and they can still win.
And they still execute very strategic maneuvers, those observations and adjustments to an opponent are still happening, they're just happening on a more instinctive, subconscious level.

You know that ultra instinct is a real thing right? It is called the flow state, and it is a state where your body reacts without the body. They will use techniques because of muscle memory.

I think he's asking if, when you tap into UI, you keep your mind up or not, like, If you keep making strategies to defeat the enemy or just let your body attack alone.
That's his point, i think, that, if your body just attack alone without the mind support (thinking of possible strategies), you could possibly lose because strategies is one of the most important things in a battle.

It's like this. Have you ever dropped something, and before you even realized you dropped it, your hand moved and grabbed it? If so, that's just your instincts. Before you realized it fell, you picked it up. Now Goku instinctively moves like that while fighting in ultra instinct
The current manga has actually given Goku the ability to tap into Ultra Instinct Omen at will now, and may have given a really important hint to a flaw in Ultra Instinct. Roshi in the manga is capable of using a pseudo-Ultra Instinct., but cannot use it when plagued by negative emotions (at the time he was fighting beautiful fugitives, so it is obvious what thoughts Roshi was thinking). This could actually destabilize the form and cause what happened to Goku after beating up Jiren in MUI, as Goku was filled with hatred towards Jiren. This could actually suggest that it would be impossible to stack the Super Saiyan forms on top of Ultra Instinct, as the instability at that level of power would kill Goku. If Goku had a second mind in his head, he could probably get around it, but that won't be happening in a non-crossover canon. Essentially, in order to stack the forms, Goku would need to be able to perform a fusion that creates 2 minds in a body.

UI is not for fighting. It’s for dodging attack and using KI. This is why Goku used so much KI in it
Well ultra instinct is based off the flow state and most people reference the flow state to bruce lees quote "water can flow or it can crash now,do you want to flow or crash?" So in technicalities ultra instinct is basically when you let your self-doubt,hesitation,and over thinking and just go with the flow though you still have control over your body you let your instincts take over so you can in fact move your body freely

It does make sense to me tho as a martial artist. I also read the book of musashi miyamoto, a famous samurai. He stated that if you cannot defeat an opponent, you have to flow like water. It means that you have to rely on your body's movement on wherever the fight takes place. And yes, it make sense that you have a strategy to defeat your opponent without thinking about it. Well, Goku is a martial artist and by constantly training his body, defeating opponents, he already have that muscle memory on how to defeat someone. During fights in mma, people train and follow the game plan they need to beat the opponents. By doing it over and over again, their body memorizes it until they no longer have to think about what to do. That pretty much explains it.
Well dragonball doesnt need to make sense, from senzu bean that could instantly heal you and ki blasts, well for spoilers goku was able to summon a giant goku that looks like the kyubii when naruto transform during his ultra instinct. It doesnt have to make sense because it is about power. Goku also needs enough God Ki to transform into ultra instinct. It is mentioned in the manga. So you guys dont have to confuse with what doesnt make sense in ultra instinct. Its just another Godlike power up that doesnt need power but stamina since you need tons of God Ki to transform.
Ultra instinct doesn’t mean you lose all focus, it’s just not overthinking things and doesn’t let in any other distractions

The main thing that doesn’t make sense about Ultra Instinct, is how Goku was able to activate it for most of the tournament without having any energy at all.
When Goku first used Ultra Instinct against Jiren, Whis said that Goku had absorbed the energy from the Spirit Bomb in order to fuel his depleted body. But when he uses it against Kefla and Jiren the second time, he’s completely exhausted without any energy whatsoever, but can somehow activate it, despite the fact that he still needs energy to do so. So where does he get the energy from? Does he just pull it out of his ass, or does Toriyama just grant him the energy whenever he needs it?

Fun Fact Super Sayain God form actually has more potential then all the forms Goku Has Combined (MUI is not a form but a Technique) and SSG is God power but Goku and Vegeta just wanted quick Power so they got blue but if SSJG Was mastered it would be like SSG MYSTIC: Like Ultimate Gohan but even better

The reason UI doesn't cause a problem with tactics is because you train and the tactics also become second nature. At least that's how it's supposed to work in the real life equivalent: being in the zone.
UI Would be a good ability for Gohan to use, problem is...
1. Gohan is more Analytical in his fights, this could turn the process of "turning off" the mind a lot more difficult
2. Gohan tends to lower his guard when a battle seems to be won, Piccolo notices this in his training for the upcoming Tournament of Power and surprises him with a ki blast shot on his back from the severed arm. Also, in the Cell Saga, Gohan was Overwhelming Cell with the new SS2 Form, because of that, he refused to finish the battle quickly, giving enough time for Cell to think about Exploding himself, thus leading to Goku's death.

Ultra instinct is a state of mind...and potential unlock doesn’t actually mean that what you think it does....it just unlocks the user’s latent ki within him that that moment...
If Goku used Ultra Instinct against Broly, then the movie would've been finished WAY earlier than it should.
Goku is training and studying for ultra instinct almost from the beginning. After tompaipai with master of the tower, then with the counter part of king picollo, when he trained with po with his eyes closed had a test escaping a lighting bolt. At least. If we think about it he trained with roish to become not only powered but faster and stronger.
When you have time to prepare for a fight, thinking and strategizing is the best option. However, Goku didn’t have that option as he had never seen jirón fight before. Also, some might argue that letting your instincts take over is a strategy which involves thinking. And just because goku splits his mind from body doesn’t mean he’s not fighting as himself! It’s still his training that muscle memory that dictate his instincts.

In Dragon Ball Super, When goku fights Beerus on King Kai's planet He dodged without wanting to dodge that was a reference to ultra instinct coming

The one thing that doesn't make sense about Ultra Instinct is that it increased Goku's power level at all. Whis literally described it as a detachment from the conscious mind so thoughts, hesitation, and emotion don't interfere with the body reacting by pure instinct in the most efficient and effective way possible. Nothing about that suggests a power boost. It was established as a state of mind, not a transformation, yet when Goku achieved Ultra Instinct it was suddenly treated as the latter for no reason other than flawless combat instinct alone wouldn't have been enough to defeat Jiren.

5. Unlike now Goku didn't have a complete grasp on ultra instinct to fight broly with it

1- whis stated the concept of ui when they were training before RoF and told goku that he lets his guard down
2- Goku let his guard down in RoF even when he knew that frieza was still alive
3- in db super episode 5 goku ssj3 while couldn’t sense god ki moved by instinct which beerus even acknowledges
4- goku when fighting zamasu and goku black when he finds out chichi and goten were killed by them....his emotions get in the way while he was going to punch black in the end and black almost kills goku with his blade...
I know that they are subtle foreshadowing but it is done to give an “aha” effect...and provide the cathartic experience to the technique/transformation

Makes no sense. You say there was no sign of ultra instinct in super, yet Whis Spoke about it long before it was actually used. And why will you need tactics if your body will just naturally dodge attacks and attack itself? And you also say why would Whis need ultra instinct if he can manipulate time, hit can do that too but he can still get attacked. And how can it be cheating if it's a technique you have to learn. So that means the kamehameha and spirit bomb is also cheating then

For the second one. Disconnecting the mind is the most beneficial thing especially if you're trained like Goku or Vegeta where muscle memory and experience are crucial. That training is then ingrained into the subconscious to all doubt is gone to then only react and attack.

You said it's hard to fight body without the mind but in fighting the body reacts by instinct...not thought. Ultra Instinct wasn't hyped up because no one knew about it, the Angels do. Kakarot won't consider UI to be cheating because it's reactions based on training and not thought...it's based on what your body knows. Maybe Kakarot didn't use UI against Broly is because it's not at use by will...but by necessity.
