Oh Laura, I live in Miami, Florida and I wish with all my heart I could plant those beautiful hibiscus but no luck, I must enjoy them through you. Wonderful!!!
This made me realize I’ve been watching your channel for over two years. I bought a hardy hibiscus because of seeing these videos when you planted them. Love this channel.
How do you know if you’ve got a hardy hibiscus? The ones I bought came in standard black buckets, not this Proven Winner ones. I know that tells you nothing but was hoping you could explain hardy vs non-hardy or whatever.
@@ChrisJ-mf7cj Hardy is another word for perennial. When buying look at tags. The annuals that do not come back every year would say they are tropical hibiscus. You can look at temperature rating on tags as well.
Will you thank the family from all of us, it is wonderful seeing how the plants have grown since planted. Thanks sharing your garden, Love from Ireland.
Hi Laura! All of the hibiscus are absolutely beautiful! I like this kind of videos where you show updates on the plants. Please thank your friends and mother-in law Sue for letting you film these updates. Thank you for sharing!

I love these plants. A story of my parents. My maternal grandmother had a red hibiscus. My father was dating my mom at the time. He picked a flower, put it behind her ear saying it only added to her beauty. Thanks for the memory. I love drinking coffee and watching Garden Answer every morning. I’ve learned so much from you
I live on Maryland's eastern shore and we have a wild Hibiscus that grows in the marsh, those are white and a really pale pink one. My mom would dig those to replant along our waters edge, that was some 55 yrs ago. They're all just beautiful.

Did the Blue Chiffon not make it? I started watching Garden Answer during the the three urn challenge. I stayed because I wanted to grow rose of Sharon and you had just planted one. That was years ago. My rose of Sharon didn't make it but I'm still here 😀
Simply love the hardy hibiscus. I planted 2, years ago, in the wrong spot. So my mom came over to assist with moving them to a more appropriate spot in my yard. We (I) broke a shovel. Their roots are tough. 😂 just planted 2 in my front flower beds last fall. They are the center pieces of their respective beds. Can’t wait to see their blooms.

Absolutely beautiful 🥰 unfortunately here in southwestern Ontario Canada the Japanese beetles have taken over and they have obliterated my perennial hibiscus so I have had to take mine out 😢
I really enjoyed this video, focusing on one plant. I learned a lot. I’ve always thought hibiscus to be difficult plants (user error, I’m discovering from this video!). But now I am ready to buy several hibiscus again and get planting. Thank you, Laura for sharing your knowledge and love for living things. I hope every night when you lay your head down on your pillow you know how much you have blessed all of us!
Just wanted to thank you so much, i feel my confidence in planting shrubs and flowers has improved one hundred percent since watching all your videos (as i have time). We had a disastrous winter and needed soo many replacements. Thanks to you we have so much more enjoyment in our gardens now!
My all time favorite is Midnight Marvel. The dark foliage and deep red blooms put on a stunning display. Over the years I’ve worked in garden centers and have gained a lot of plant knowledge, which I’ve passed on to friends & family. I have 8 hibiscus in my yard and I absolutely love them! They don’t put on their show until late summer, but it’s worth the wait.
Everything is so beautiful. I have elephant ears for the first time and I’m amazed at how well they are doing. Got me wondering about those you planted last year. Did they survive the winter?
I love my hibiscus, the first flower showed up this morning. I grow mine in a tub of water - in the original nursery pot. I think I've had it about four years and it comes back year after year. I'm in Kentucky.
So you keep the roots wet and saturated then. Ty, I live central KY too and I would like to try these in the ground along back property line. No irrigation set up.
What beautiful video today on a beautiful plant. And they were all so beautiful. And so full of blooms. I have 3 in my garden all different colours. White and pink and purple mine are still waiting to bloom. Lovely to see how all of them are doing. In all the gardens and l loved the close up. Thank you Aaron.
We have a hibiscus we cut back to the ground each year and it comes back huge, but how do you keep the base from being really crowded with the dead canes?
I bought 3 of the summerific after watching your video. They started blooming a couple of days ago. They are absolutely stunning! The flower shape looks very elegant even on its way of withering. Love it! Every garden should have a spot for this hibiscus!
Wait…that’s it, I need at least a 30 min video or less. I didn’t even get a chance to make my coffee and eat breakfast by the time the video was over🤣🤣. Will these grow well in South Florida zone 10a? Thank you.
I would love to see a compilation video in late winter or early fall of all the plants and shrubs that you prune hard with a follow up video of regrowth to ease gardeners’ minds and show how a hard prune can reinvigorate a garden. ✂️🌳🌸🌱👍🥰
I think that would need to be another channel..Laura likes the English style. The west is greener than the east coast because they are pulling from the world's underground aquifers and irrigating like nothing I have ever seen. Even her favorite England does not irrigate; especially lawns. We on the East coast rely on what falls from the sky and of course rain is not able to recharge the aquifers in the amounts being pulled. We are living on borrowed rain like borrowed money and all good things will come to an end. I do not begrudge her as I also love this look but I do worry that she is being an 'influencer' to people across the country/world who will all think irrigation is normal in the middle of a desert.
@@karenvknight6516 I think you mean the Pacific Northwest where Laura lives. The West also includes the Southwest which is basically all desert and chaparral. But I agree - probably better to look for a channel based in that climate rather than ask Laura to speculate. I do wish there were as fantastic channels like this in every climate zone though!
Actually they live as she herself says high desert not pacific NE - that is the area along the coast that is normally known for its mild rainy weather but this year got that several weeks of extreme heat. I think there is a nursery called High Country Gardens in CO that would be a good resource for folks who live west of the Plains
Thank you for the update. I remember when you planted them at your friends home. They are just beautiful. With the huge blooms and the dark leaves are stunning.
I had no idea there were perennial hibiscus options for colder zones! I'm in Zone 7 and so happy to know there are options I could put into the ground here.
Omg the Hartley is up(saw on FB)!!!! 💥💚 Idek why i am so excited. It's like you don't even know that i exist, but i am so invested in your life that i just can almost vicariously feel it 💪😂
WOW 😍 I Just watched the video of you planting those Yesterday!! I am Amazed at how Big they get and the enormous, spectacular Flowers are show stoppers!! Trying to think of a place in yard to grow some of the HOLY GRAIL 🌳🌺🌺🌺
Had to chuckle when you said " it is a slow starter in the spring...you may think it is dead but it is not". We planted a Cherry Choco Latte variety last year. Gorgeous flower. Cut it back early spring. Nothing happened all May (we are Zone 5) even tho' it was a warmer spring than usual. So dug it up...roots looked good...so just in case it might be okay, we put it in a pot, watered it regularly. And sure enough mid June it started to sprout. LOL It is tall and full of buds (still in the pot). We had replaced with a Butterfly Bush so now have to find a good spot for it. Thanks so much for the great information! I am learning so much.
I live in Florida and had to transplant mine to another part of the yard because they were interfering with the growth of other bushes. Some of the bottom branches were broken off because they were leaning too fa on the ground. I watered them well and they are in a sunny spot, i just hope they don't go into shock and die off on me🤞🏽I love these so much that they are a part of my business branding. Absolutely gorgeous 🌺
Joyousness 💅.I got fruit of chance to see your significant Hibiscus flowers garden and hibiscus flowers colours are very bossy in your entire flowers garden.🙏.
Hi Laura, Aaron & everyone else. I'm glad u did this vlog. I bought a hardy hibiscus earlier this spring. It looks nice good, health, & bushy. It's just starting to bud up. I'm so excited. I realized a few weeks ago, I should have planted it in the full sun. The only reason I didn't is b/c we live in West Texas. The sun & heat are awful on new plants. I planted it in part sun area. I was think of moving it in the fall just a few feet forward, but was afraid to do so. Watching your vlog, I realized I can move it & will move this weekend. Also, don’t let anyone give u grief about calling your Hartley a Hartley. If by any chance I won the lottery & was able to buy a Hartley, I would call my Hartley "my dream come true Hartley" & would repeat it as much as possible. Idk if anyone didn't like it. Thanks for all your information & entertainment. I love watching you two. 💜
I just adore the huge blooms on the perennial hibiscus! I planted my first ones 4 years ago in planters because I didn't know where I wanted them. Unfortunately, they did not survive our harsh winter in the pots. I'm sure they would have been okay if I had planted them directly into the ground. Last year, after seeing a 'Starry Starry Night' Hibiscus, I decided to try again. The foliage is a dark maroon with swirled pink and white flowers, it's absolutely gorgeous! In spite of my neighbor spraying weeds with herbicide, which made all of the leaves curl, I cut the damaged foliage off and now it's all budded up and about to burst into bloom! YAY!
Hi Laura ; thanks for the Hibiscus 🌺 videos , they also survive in our dry climates as we had them in droughts , no stopping them just gorgeous 🙌🧤👒🦘🐨🇦🇺🥰🧚
Hibiscus is my favorite flowers. I live in tropics so they literally bloom nonstop all year round. I used to have 17 colors all in pots because I have limited space. Now I just keep 4 and planted on the ground (because that space I can get). And they are indeed amazing. So beutiful
Hello, I hope you and your family are safe and well! On our local news they were talking about how the smoke from Oregon would come to PA where I live. Sure enough it did. The mountains that surround our town have had a haze on them for the past three days! They are part of the Appalachian mountain range. Thank you for all you do! I just thought that was neat how the smoke traveled all the way from there! Though I do pray for all those affected by the terrible side of this disaster. Stay safe!
I recently went to Ocean City Maryland and saw these I was like wow they were so pretty, a month later i see this video and now i k ow what they are! Thanks love the channel!!
We live in Utah also high dessert, zone 5-7 (depending on who you ask). We are in a severe drought and can only water twice a week. Most lawns are brown. I have candy crush and a red one that I don’t remember the name, but they only get watered twice a week from over head sprinklers. We have been over 100 degrees for a long time. I was so worried about them, but they are happy and massive. Love these tough, beautiful plants!
I looked for many years trying to find a pale pink hibiscus. Finally found one two years ago. It is the Starry Starry Night Rose Mallow. I absolutely love love love this plant. It has the dark purple leaves. Gorgeous!
I live in zone 4 and planted one last fall. Thought it died because everything is turning green, but just today I saw some buds coming up from the roots! It's good to know it can grow that big in one season. I'm guessing it will die back to the ground every year for us. We usually have a handful of -20 degree days in the winter.
I’m so glad I happened upon this video. I inherited a hibiscus from the previous owner and never knew what to do with it. It was taller than our one story house but loaded with flowers. I have been struggling trying to like this bush but it is eventually loaded with Japanese beetles. I didn’t know you could cut it way back and it would survive so I’m going to try this in the spring to make it more manageable. It is also a VERY MESSY bush when it starts to lose the flowers ... lots of cleanup!

I've been wondering too. I'm assuming they all died 😂
Many questions (but not all) get answered in the weekly recap on their Highlights channel.
So worth the wait every spring/summer for them to come out of dormancy and bloom!🥰
Two years ago already? Time goes by so fast! So beautiful!
Just wanted to thank you so much, i feel my confidence in planting shrubs and flowers has improved one hundred percent since watching all your videos (as i have time). We had a disastrous winter and needed soo many replacements. Thanks to you we have so much more enjoyment in our gardens now!
They are so beautiful. Do you ever have insect issues on the foliage of the hibiscus or the veronica? The bugs are driving me crazy!
I’ve had some kind of budworm issue on mine. I’ll find little holes in buds and then the plant immediately drops that bud. It’s super annoying
@@sayzar9474 yes! My flowers look pretty, but the foliage is stressed. I just found blister beetles eating my Clematis.
Good morning from PA!
Perfect timing for this video. My first bloom of Starry Starry Night opened today with many, many more to enjoy.
How to get rid of chompers who feast on the leaves and buds? The hibiscus plant must taste good!
Yes the Japanese beetles love them!
@@gardener6904 Yes! They are relentless. Grapes, raspberries, roses and plum tree take it the worst.
Ty, I live central KY too and I
would like to try these in the ground along back property line. No irrigation set up.
I dream of having gardens like yours 😭 very soon…

What beautiful video today on a beautiful plant. And they were all so beautiful. And so full of blooms. I have 3 in my garden all different colours. White and pink and purple mine are still waiting to bloom. Lovely to see how all of them are doing. In all the gardens and l loved the close up. Thank you Aaron.
We have a hibiscus we cut back to the ground each year and it comes back huge, but how do you keep the base from being really crowded with the dead canes?
We cut last years canes when we see this year’s growth coming up.
Duhhh really you couldn’t figure out to remove them ? 🤪
@@fia8079 , how rude!
@@bonniegierach5027 yeah really... most people are decent here. Fia needs to go somewhere where's there's more of her kind.
Beautiful plant. Nice to see an update of areas you planted in the past. Thanks
Are these varieties edible? i love hibiscus tea - you could make hibiscus cocktails next!
Thank you.
I watch the good ones twice anyway.🤪
Beautiful. I also noticed the red hot poker in the background, looking glorious as well.
I would love to see a compilation video in late winter or early fall of all the plants and shrubs that you prune hard with a follow up video of regrowth to ease gardeners’ minds and show how a hard prune can reinvigorate a garden. ✂️🌳🌸🌱👍🥰
They are the perfect plant! Zero maintenance and bloom beautifully.
Have you ever considered taking about gardening with plants that are more appropriate for the desert in extreme drought?
She would be out of a job
I can’t wait to see the green house go up! Sooo happy you got it! Is going to be amazing!
The blooms get so big on mine that when they die back I tell my husband they look like a carcass 🤣
Thank you for the update. I remember when you planted them at your friends home. They are just beautiful. With the huge blooms and the dark leaves are stunning.

Oh wow, they are so so pretty. I’m not sure we can get these varieties in Australia though 🇦🇺. They remind me of camellias a bit! 🌸
Much winter hardier than a camellia though.
I had no idea there were perennial hibiscus options for colder zones! I'm in Zone 7 and so happy to know there are options I could put into the ground here.
Omg the Hartley is up(saw on FB)!!!! 💥💚 Idek why i am so excited. It's like you don't even know that i exist, but i am so invested in your life that i just can almost vicariously feel it 💪😂
Never seen such a beautiful and bushy Hibiscus before
You posted this 22 seconds ago?! Haha goodmorning
WOW! Those are the most beautiful hibiscus I've ever seen.
Wow beautiful garden 😍
My favourite plant Hibiscus
Beautiful flowers wonderful 😍
Nice sharing 🌺🌺🌺🌺👌🏻👍🏻
YAY!
Have never seen a hibiscus with soooo many flowers. Beautiful🥰.
Hi Laura ; thanks for the Hibiscus 🌺 videos , they also survive in our dry climates as we had them in droughts , no stopping them just gorgeous 🙌🧤👒🦘🐨🇦🇺🥰🧚
Beautiful Hibiscus, they are gorgeous! They are tough plants, that is great that those Hibiscus came back! Thank you for the update! 😍🌺🌿
Hello Leesa..
How are you doing today?
Stay safe!
Hooray for Hibiscus! We have an one side of our BackYard border fence lined with common hibiscus. The pollinators love them and they look so great!
Oh my gosh I love those plans they're so beautiful
Hi Mary
How are you
I’m so glad I happened upon this video.
🌺Absolutely beautiful flowers, so striking. Thank your friends for allowing this video of their beautiful yards☕️❤️
Wow amazing flowers 🌸 enjoy looking at your videos and Greenhouse is beautiful have bless day you are so good at work. You have a lot knowledge it take a lot patience all your hard work beautiful place to call home
