Drumeo is the real deal. A couple years ago, I taught myself how to play drums by watching their videos. I’m still a beginner and still have a lot to work on but it’s been super fun. Hardest struggle is balancing practice time with family life.
Quick encouragement for anyone trying to learn drumming for the first time - especially adults: I know this seems simplistic, but believe me when I say that this is the way to start. Almost no one sits down and "just plays." We all struggled through simple beats and limb independence and maintaining a consistent tempo. It takes work, and it starts with incredibly monotonous repetition. You aren't bad at it; it's just new. It takes effort and time for everyone. Don't feel like you should just somehow magically be able to do more or progress faster. There is no drum hack that everyone else knows that you are missing out on. It's just the discipline to practice and the humility to be okay with starting small.
My buddy's kid is getting a drum kit for Christmas this year, I'll have to go over there and set it up for them. After I'm done that I'm going to make sure this is his first video, I'll give him half an hour or so with this video and then I'll start showing him the intro to killing Fields...
This video is really a good starting point. I had zero musical talent, and no concept of playing the drums when I got my first kit as a teenager. All I knew was that you hit stuff with sticks. Within the first hour, it's easy to start getting down the basic rock/pop beat that is used just about everywhere in music for many decades. Generally everything else is as simple as learning a new pattern until it feels natural, and slowly those patterns build into the freedom to create and invent what you hear in your head. And if you're just playing alone with your favorite songs, there's usually at least a simplified beat beginners will quickly learn to identify, and play along at their own pace as they grow. I hope this video gets just one person to pick up the drums, or give them a try. It's fun, it can be a different way to exercise, and there is no shortage of musicians of all levels looking for drummers.
I'm self taught and have been playing since I was almost 4 (12 years). I play double bass, have a large drum kit, and admire so many rock and metal drummers. Yet these videos are so good for practicing and learning different ways to drum.
Brandon, please continue posting lessons. I've been playing for the past 3 years and I only watch you guys. Nice to see new lessons starting to come back. Thank you. 😺
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about playing the drums, this is awesome. I've always been an acoustic guitar guy, but Drumeo really makes me want to learn how to play the drums.
Thanks to Drumeo's videos I picked up a relatively cheap electronic set. It's absolutely worth it. I was primarily an acoustic guitar guy as well. But honestly just sitting there doing the money beat shown here is so much fun. It works great on most songs and I find it to be such a stress relief to just focus on keeping time and tune out the world.
Thank you so much for explaining this. I always thought a person could sit down and start playing a bunch of difficult beats. Boy, was I wrong. Drummers are amazingly talented, and I understand why drummers are in such great shape.
I’ve already been playing for three years I just wanted to watch the video.also you are my faviorte RUclipsr.we need more Chad Smith. I would love if he could play Wet sand my faviorte song by Red Hot Chili Peppers 🌶️ Thank you.
Great video! Love the simplicity and how it'll encourage people to try drumming out. I'm a guitarist but I've always wanted to drum. This definitely peaks my interest.
I have a better idea of making sure you’re really comfortable at your kit: instead of mounting your rack toms on the bass drum, mount them in front of the snare drum. This gives you space of putting your ride cymbal over the kick drum, and places it directly in front of you!!! I was skeptical about it when I tried it, but ergonomically, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me!!! Now, you’re gonna have to get creative with setting the toms up, like putting the small tom in a snare stand and leaving the middle tom in the bass drum, getting a cymbal stand and putting a tom holder in it and mounting it that way, or you can get a double tom stand, or mount them on a cymbal stand. That’s up to you.
i feel like being in shape/athletic helps a lot with endurance as well, i never realized how tired my arms and legs could feel until after practicing those first few times lol
Alternativly id find the balance point of your stick. For mine it leave about 2-3 inches out the back of my stick. But that reduces ware on my wrist and makes playing easier as im not forcing the lift on the hand rather letting the drump do most of thr work via rebound.
Think you should definitely do more of these videos. Not everyone can afford the subscriptions. From basic all the way through to expert. Love the videos and all the stuff you’re doing for the drumming community all around the world. 💙💯👊🏻
"Rhythm, you either have it or you don't, that's a fallacy." -- Del the Funky Homosapien. Playing the drums is a totally teachable, learnable skill. It just takes practice.
I don’t play the drums, but I played Bass back 40 years ago with a bunch of Heavy Metal players. I’ve been watching like I kid who just found his passion in life… Im really loving the drummers playing a song for the 1st time. I couldn’t play my way out of a wet paper bag! But, I really like your channel. I sub’d!
This is a great video. Now I just need a kit. Anyone have an e-kit they can donate? I’m ill/disabled and on Medicaid. Can’t afford to buy a kit. I would happily provide proof of need. I’m in NYC. I would deeply appreciate the help if someone has a decent e-kit to donate that’s collecting dust. I learned to play guitar and ukulele as a form of physical, occupational, cognitive, and recreational therapies. I’d really love to get started on the drums too - I always wanted to play drums as a kid, and it’s never too late to try at 43, lol. I just can’t afford to buy a kit to get myself started. If you can help, read my YT page. YT comments often get deleted/missed. Thanks SO much to anyone that can help.
Can I have Brandon do this in every area of my life that my teachers and parents never taught me? Doing my taxes: "Section 14b is just the taxes withheld... Good job!"
I have always think that this method is so illogic (no offense to drumeo or the method itself) just my opinion based on experience. If you put a kid behind a drum set he will be playing in less time following the sound of a song or even your voice singing the pattern. It's so unnatural to learn rhythms thinking in numbers instead of sounds.
Its fkn boring, but if you can "get into" the most basic beat the Hi-hat you have a chance. Your mind will think more machinelike and progress from there. Mistake is following what you can hear is the most obvious part. The snare, the cymbals.
Brandon during the 5-minute workout: good job, keep it going
Me watching it on my couch: thanks bro, any time
XD
Same😂

Back in the day there is no internet to teach us this kind of musical stuffs.. i need to beg my parents for a instructor 😂

Wtf. That transition at 1:30 was so nice.
They fooled me, had to look extra hard to notice that the drums were a still image. Good one drumeo
Enjoy!🥁
OMG I did the workout and then i got a phone call and now i'm in *DREAM THEATER* !!!!!!!!!
you're a great teacher!
I cannot tell you enough how awesome you are dude. You really make this channel pop.

Never drummed before and just ordered an E-Kit to give it a go after watching these videos, Definitely going to use this video to learn the basics!
Same! Gona be my Christmas gift to myself. The Alesis Nitro comes with 90 days of Drumeo free which I expect to be very helpful.
@@jasonsell8523 Yeah exactly the same I'm getting Nitro Max!

58 years playing drums/percussion and I'm going to give this a try.

Thank you for showing me the basics
Thanks, Brandon!
Brings back memories of my brother's drum lessons when I took him. Made me love drums forever, as a guitarist.
hej hej from denmark , thanks for all the uploads !
This brings me back ❤

@ChrisRamsey-v1m that's exactly how I feel as well. There's something really meditative about keeping the beat. Or maybe I'm just weird
Great video for my 6 year old to start with. Thanks for making it easy to teach our young Rockstars
Thank you so much for explaining this. I always thought a person could sit down and start playing a bunch of difficult beats. Boy, was I wrong. Drummers are amazingly talented, and I understand why drummers are in such great shape.
Brandon, your a class act and "very" good drummer.....
Finally some lessons.
“By the end of the video you’ll be able to play along to your favourite song”
*pneuma starts playing*
Perfect! Just in time for the holidays!
JUST IN TIME! just got interested in learning drums these past couple weeks 🥁
Just make sure that your interest wan't fade away after next couple of weeks :)
@drevoborod8613 w my current mental struggles that are gettin intense, THAT is what i pray for 🙏
This helps a lot drumeo, thanks!
I'm 78 and I never thought I could do this!!!
You can totally do it!
Very timely video! Thank you
I’ve already been playing for three years I just wanted to watch the video.also you are my faviorte RUclipsr.we need more Chad Smith. I would love if he could play Wet sand my faviorte song by Red Hot Chili Peppers 🌶️ Thank you.
Bro thats literally me... been playing for three years now and just love Chad, eh I mean Will Ferrel sorry😅
Very nice to see a video like this
Great video! Love the simplicity and how it'll encourage people to try drumming out. I'm a guitarist but I've always wanted to drum. This definitely peaks my interest.
Awesome sauce thank you!!
Love this!
I'm not even trying to learn how to play drums, but that's awesome!
A very comfortable video to learn the absolute basics. I allways like to go back to the start and see how it all startet. :)

This is my setup. Ride over bass, toms set around it. I like my ride super easy to access.
I agree to that. High Tom and Crash in front of the SNare, Ride above the Bass and the Floor Tom at the side.
That generally requires additional stands, but is definitely a superior set up if you ask me
You should do more videos for sure glad see someone playing right awesome video
i feel like being in shape/athletic helps a lot with endurance as well, i never realized how tired my arms and legs could feel until after practicing those first few times lol
Very informative and useful tips
Brilliant!
I've been playing for over 20 years, I have a friend that sometimes sits behind my set and can't stop opening the hi hat on the "ands" lol
Drumeo is the best thing ever.
TY DRUMEO)
Finally someone who can tell me.
w drumeo
You know Ive been drumming for like 10 years now, I started when I was 7, I wish I had a tutorial like this
Alternativly id find the balance point of your stick. For mine it leave about 2-3 inches out the back of my stick. But that reduces ware on my wrist and makes playing easier as im not forcing the lift on the hand rather letting the drump do most of thr work via rebound.

Can we talk about that transition to e-kit

I began starting drums 2 days ago
THen welcome to the best instrument in the world (im fully objective here)
I need private lessons from Brandon😁
You gotta do a first listen with Sergio Acedo
I miss playing.😢
I start by trying single snare strokes like tjose in the marching band, very difficult to get the left hand good
Been playing for 10 years but I could still do with knowing what I’m doing
nice .
Neil Peart once said his philosophy on playing the drums was "Take Stick- Hit Drum"
When are you going to have Jean-Paul Gaster on?!?!?!?!?!?
Hey Brandon,
I was wondering if You will ever do a drumming segment with Mark Goodwin, the drummer from Sick Puppies?
play to have fun :) why else play?
I’m a guitarist by trade, and if instrument=fun, me=play instrument
To impress the girls :D
@@td4068 fun, with extra steps :D
@@davidbonar5190 drums with benefits. :D
I can now play every ACDC songs
Can you do a genius of video for Aaron Solowoniuk from Billy Talent?
Step one: Grab stick
Step two: Hit drum with it
Step three: Profit
Not Brandon calling all of us non-Drum playing subscribers out on a Friday morning. T_T
Increíble
And dip those sticks in Plastidip 😉
Hubiera deseado tener este video 25 años atras...
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im 0 years old.. and been drumming for 100 years and still felt like i never drummed before so i still have to watch this 100 times a day🎉
ive been playing for 17 years (started with freedrumlessons and mike johnston).. lets see if i learn something! 😊
what starter electric kit wouldn’t recommend
❤
Wouldn't you start with quarter notes on the high hat first?
Domino has done this already and did a very nice job. Unfortunate for you Brendon but, Domino wins😂
RUclips recommended this video in seven seconds????
Yeah my one is 2mins… so slow ;-) ehehe.
I feel like RUclips is trying to tell us something

My problem is sore shoulders from using my entire arm. Hard to play just using my wrist.
Metronome is always important because one always rushes the rhythm and it is a common mistake
SONG ??
@brandontoews Thank you for the practical teaching.❤
Oh thank goodness, all this time I’ve never known how to play 😂
I want to learn sheet music though dammit
8 minutes ago is wild
RUclips telling me that I destroy my neighbours ears without telling me.
ah the long tail viral content video
You guys need to get Adam Gilbert from STARSET. He's been doing a lot more cool different stuff recently and some covers too

Easier at a little faster pace
Can I have Brandon do this in every area of my life that my teachers and parents never taught me? Doing my taxes: "Section 14b is just the taxes withheld... Good job!"
Just sit in the chair, and play
I told this girl last night, "I want to play you like a drum set"
Did ya??
You mean there is a method to the madness?
ssssht its a secret the drumming sociaty is hiding from the rest of the world. In fact we not what we are doing. (sometimes... not very often)
Didn't even tell me which hand I'm supposed to hold the kick pedal with SMH
I have always think that this method is so illogic (no offense to drumeo or the method itself) just my opinion based on experience.
