Wish I was sitting on a beach looking at the glow from that summer sky. Due to work commitments it takes me a few days to watch the videos, but I try to watch as many as I can. Some people binge watch TV series, not me I'm binge watching your tutorials...doesn't leave much time for painting thought 🙂
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for encouraging me, to push past the ugly and trust in my eyes, hands and heart. It's scary but I've always wanted to paint. I needed to hear that-you are a gift. I'm so grateful for you, sharing ur gifts and talents. They are immense.
I am new to your classes and so happy to have found you. I think you are a wonderful teacher and I look forward to more lessons. The beautiful glow from the summer sunset clouds and the amazing rocks and water are a challenge I am definitely willing to take! Have a great week and I'll see you next time.
Congratulations of making it so far into the video. I love to see that level of dedication. I hope you too have a great week and I will see you on Saturday!
JUST BRILLIANT!! ....YOU ARE NOTHING SHORT OF FKING BRILLIANT!! I have learnt more from your teachings in an hour than I have in 15 years of various art/painting classses!! I can't THANK YOU enough! XXx
Thank you so much to all the amazing people that support this channel via patron !! And thank you so much Ryan for taking the time to teach us !! I am still learning and trying to hone my skills and I really appreciate your videos so so much, because with them I am able to really learn how to apply the paint so much better :) Thank you again 😘😘
An absolute beginner here, Ryan, focusing on sky, clouds, and rocks for now. Very nice work, Ryan! This has been perfectly instructive and covered many questions I've had. The close-ups are good. I'm trying to get an idea of exactly how the texture of the canvas and the base coats on the canvas "come through" into the top layers of paint applied. And here's the 'glow' of it all! Many thanks, Ryan, I sure appreciate the time and effort you are applying here.
This GLOW took my breath away! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world. You are truly gifted and It is such an honor to be able to support your channel. Keep shining through your ARTworks! Best Regards Lizzette
I have been watching you for the last 48 hours.. I have had you chrome casted to my tv non stop. I just want to Thank you and wish you a merry Christmas!! God Bless . Lourin- Florida🏝
Wow! Ryan, your painting has such a realistic and magical glow! A touch of summer calm and serenity despite the current outer world's various challenges and sometimes chaos. God bless you, my friend, for sharing so generously your depths and gifts with us; soul food, for sure 💕💕💕🎉🌅🌈🌈
Love that glowing sky ;) I really, really do, this painting feels like "longing" to me, maybe it´s just due to the fact that I´ve been trapped in my own home for 8 months due to back problems and I just CRAVE to get out! who knows. Anyways, gorgeous painting :)

Summer! Glow! What a beautiful and detailed tutorial! Some much information and advice..thank you so much for your time, and for making this tutorial available on RUclips, I very much appreciate it. Thank you once again..David in the UK.
I love the glow of this painting. I see comments on the fast-drying acrylics. At a community college course, I learned how to make a wet palette. Take a flat "tupperware" container that has a lid. Cut heavy duty watercolor paper to cover the bottom. Soak that in water for 5 minutes. On top put a piece of parchment paper that has been quickly run under the tap on top of the watercolor paper after draining out the water. Put your paints on the parchment paper which is replaced each time you need a new palette. In between painting sessions, put the lid on. I am also using a liquid paint retarder for acrylics as I am by an open window with a ceiling fan over me...the paints dry almost instantly under these conditions if I don't use these techniques.
I don't know about how cute you are, but, you are a fantastic painting instructor! I love your sky and reflection! I'm going to duplicate in oil later today. Thanks for sharing your talent, Ryan. Tom
Hello Ryan, I have been watching your work for quite a while. I have a channel as well, and as though I can NEVER paint as well as you...I do try. You have taught me a lot...thank you so much!!
Did anyone notice the face of a bearded 'woodcutter' with a crooked nose, wearing a fur hat, about halfway up the right cliff-side? 3:07:40 He's facing left, towards the light and his beard, face and hat take up about one third of the entire cliff-side. I guess it's personal, but for me that's one of the best examples of pareidolia I've ever seen.. Great painting sir. You inspired me to dig up my old brushes.
Im watching this and I wonder how does his acrylic paint dont dry out so quick? I try to paint with acrylics but before I could paint further, my paint dried up on me!
That's a good and interesting question, and I also would like to know precisely what is being done. Mr. O'Rourke doesn't appear to use any sort of liquid thinner. I use the same brand of paid (Basics), and generally if I work quickly, they do not dry out. So, brand might be a factor. I also use small amounts, and add more as needed, rather than large amounts that dry out. However, my best tool is a small spray bottle, which I also use with watercolours, and I simply give a light spray of water on occasion to the paint. This helps to keep it moist. Perhaps Mr. O'Rourke would be willing to comment on this issue.
Hey Alpiage! I keep my paint wet for a longer period of time by ensuring my brush is almost always damp. This is why I added a little bit of water to the bottom third of my brush before I grabbed paint at the start of the video. Throughout the lesson you will also frequently hear me saying that I'm going back to grab more water. It's worth noting that you don't want too much water as it can thin the paint down to a wash so just add little by little and wipe off the excess as I demonstrated at the beginning of the video. I would also like to say that the paint on my palette does dry up semi-frequently so I do re-mix a lot of my colors... which is honestly just great color-mixing practice. I hope that helps! -Ryan

Wow! This is exactly the style I'd love to paint: modern, detailed, colorful. As I'm a beginner, I'm still learning how to apply the paint. It dries so quickly that it dries even on the palette. Could please advise on a good brand for the paint please? Are you using a medium to keep it wet longer? Or do you slightly wet the canvas? Greetings from France
I would agree that if realism is the goal the reflection should be darkened as water is almost always darker than the sky. I decided to take some artistic liberties with this one though, as I occasionally do. In the end I was really happy with the bright reflection but you are more than welcome to make yours significantly darker :)
Hey there, Aparna! While you could render something that looks quite similar with oils the layering process would probably have to be pretty different as the pigments wouldn’t be quick drying. I would give it a go but I wouldn’t build it up in the same way. I would just color match the entirety of the piece from the beginning and apply exactly what’s seen on the reference photo in every portion
