    I love that even heterosexual men are enjoying this film and aren't put off by the fact that this film portrays two men romantically & sexually linked together.

    Haunting is the right word for it. It's kind of strange, I did cry during the movie but after that and as I try to fall asleep that night, I remembered some scenes from this movie.. and cry some more. So, yeah.
    Interesting trivia: they shot this entire movie in one lens (35mm i think?) To mimic natural human eye. And although you can totally feel the warmth of summer as the setting, it was actually filmed during a wet, cold summer with intense rain. I don't know how they did it, but I can totally imagine the warm sun and smell of peaches.

    You are so on the mark! This was the best film I have seen in years. A surefire for many Oscar nominations. TImothee Chalomet was unbelievable. The future is so bright for him he'll have to wear shades. The ending was so powerful that I wondered how Timothee Chalamet was able to effectuate it. I loved this film so much, too.

    I am happy that I’m not the only CMBYN addict. You and many of the commentators here appear to be suffering from this beautiful affliction. Wonderful review of the movie, I can see how deeply it’s affected you. Your raw emotions about this movie is welcome

    I loved it, as well! That feeling of wanting a "perfect summer" to never end... and how first (formative) love imprints on you and effects you for a lifetime... I could just babble about it all day. I hope people go see it and allow themselves to be moved by the beauty. 💜 Thank you for your review (and your Portland footage was gorgeous, too)!!!

    "How is this acting? How the fuq is this acting?!" Yes, I asked that same question myself too. "It's like they'd been dating in real life for 5 years or some sh*t". Totally, it's mind-boggling how that can be acting.

  • @hoochfroosch6281

    I’m glad you enjoyed the film. It’s exactly how I felt about the movie and you beautifully explained it like how I would say it without giving too much. I agree with their performance and I think all three of them including the fathers monologue should all get nominated for an oscar. It’s very organic and raw which is rare for movies these days! As one would say to another, LATER! 🤪

    Love your comments and enthusiasm for the film; I share them! Thank you for this. :) Just one thing: To call CMBYN a "gay film" is somehow reductive. It's a human film, and the two primary characters happen to be male. I just dislike labels, which many of us are obsessed with. As Lin-Manuel Miranda says, love is love is love is love is love. Period.

    Thank you for your review. It was from over a month ago, and we now know Timothée was nominated but Armie and Luca were not. (note that I am obviously on first name terms with these guys  ). Such a shame. Fingers crossed for the nominations it received, but I am not very sanguine, I have to say. But, here’s hoping.
    I am one of those saddos who has seen the movie many times - 16 to date. I am not a movie buff. I watch movies, but the majority of contemporary films do not tempt me. I’m not into watching violence, sport, sexual behaviour of 30-somethings on an island etc. I am at the age where I enjoy documentaries as much as anything else. Maybe that is why I love this movie. It is a fly-on-the-wall documentary in all but name. It is also my life with a few storyline twists (different loving family, no Summer Italian sojourn) but almost all of the emotional jumps that Elio experiences.
    It is obvious that I love the film, and your review shows that you do too, probably for different detailed reasons, but for the same appreciation of a cinematic work of art.

    What really impacted me a lot about this movie is its capacity of transcending its particularity to become universal, which allows everyone to feel the emotions felt by the main character. As you said, this doesn't look like a movie because it's not meant to be one, it should feel like a memory.

    The speech by mr perlman caught me when I was not prepared. I was like, ‘oh the father is going to say something to make elio feel better now’. And mid speech I bawled!!! Like against my will I think, even. I even thought ‘I am crying?’ in disbelief! I remembered wanting to have him as my dad so badly and wanting hug elio and him both at the same time. Then I continued crying until today. From time to time. I’m worried.

      To enhance the awesome experience of this film, I recommend you listen to

      Elio's diary done in an even toned voice that brings back what we saw.

    I'm seeing this movie in 9 days and I can't wait! Just gotta make one comment about the speech Michael Stuhlbarg gives. I've read the book (absolutely breathtaking; finished it in one night) and watched a couple scenes on youtube. I've realised that they have taken almost all the speeches directly from the book--verbatim. I am not trying to say books are usually better than movies, but if you enjoyed the movie, definitely check out the book as well!

    Amazing movie. Yes, 10 out of 10. Not sure I'd agree with the best actor award though. Definitely deserved to be nominated but I think there's one or two actors who deserve the Oscar more. Doesn't take away from the fact that this film is truly special.

    This movie was absolutely SICK! Of course, I mean "sick" in the very best context possible. I already love Armie Hammer. I have reviewed The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Nocturnal Animals, and Free Fire. Nothing prepared me for how well made and sensuous this movie was. Timothée Chalamet! Oh MY GOAT, what a performance. Totally believable love story without a speck of pretentious baggage. 10/10 with The Goatesians Seal of Approval. A must see.

    Hey, wtf!!!! Man.... I hear what you're saying, but, "not my cup of tea". Too much forced agendas being placed on society today. I kinda wish that they would had put a disclaimer stating: "this film contain content showing alternative lifestyles which maybe controversial". Giving people that don't support (like myself) a heads up, than going in "cold" and being shocked, thus ruining my movie experience. JUST KEEPING IT REAL!

    • @kellstarama8235
      @kellstarama8235 6 лет назад +28

      Lolol at a movie about sexual awakening and first love being a 'forced agenda' and that queer films should have disclaimers to avoid offending bigots who think the world should cater to their preferences.
      Pretty sure no one's stopping you from reading a movie description so you know what it's about...

    • @lilbigman777
      @lilbigman777  6 лет назад +36

      William Prentice,
      What you just said is full of shit.
      **Too much forced agendas being placed on society today.**
      **wish that they would put a disclaimer stating: "this film contain content showing alternative lifestyles which maybe controversial".**
      1. There is nothing being forced here. It`s a film based on a popular book about two men who fall in love with each other. No one is forcing you or anyone else to watch this film.
      2. Someone falling into the category of LGBT, their life isn`t a “lifestyle”, it's someone's nature. It`s who they are. Their sexuality isn`t some light switch they can just flip off next tuesday. There is nothing wrong with being gay. To say that implies there is a problem with homosexuality or LGBT, which there isn`t. Anyone who disagrees, well...there is a fucking problem with them or you.

    • @wprentice1961
      @wprentice1961 6 лет назад

      Jor-Els Alexandria thanks for sharing. You have the right to call my comments "$#I+", but I stand by what I said. Whatever lifestyle one participates in is their own business, but respect those that don't agree with it. In this case, I don't believe in or support that type of relationship, much less seeing it on the big screen and commenting on it AND YES, I WANT A HEADS UP PRIOR!. Although I don't support it, I will defend those individuals "the right" to have their LGBT lifestyle and enjoy the same rights that I have. IF YOU FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THIS, THEN SO BE IT!

    • @wprentice1961
      @wprentice1961 6 лет назад +1

      Kelly Amon thanks for sharing. You better believe from this moment on, I will be reading film synopsis details very carefully now. Just like a tv remote, I will exercise "choice".

    • @kellstarama8235
      @kellstarama8235 6 лет назад +6

      "Although I don't support it, I will defend those individuals 'the right' to have their LGBT lifestyle and enjoy the same rights that I have."
      So even though you don't agree with same-sex relationships, you attend rallies for them and/or will jump to the defense of someone being verbally or physically abused in public because of their sexual orientation?
      If you want ensure to that you never see a queer film, just use a site like imdb.com or rottentomatoes.com to read a summary beforehand. Demanding disclaimers for queer films to avoid accidentally offending straight people sounds like something a fascist regime would do...
      If you honestly believe we all have the same rights then you should also demand straight love stories have disclaimers to avoid offending homosexuals. Do you think this film should also have a disclaimer advising that the main characters are Jewish to avoid accidentally offending anti-Semites?
