Okay, the problem for me is that I hardly ever use my mouth to breathe. Like, mouths are for eating and occasionally breathing if you have allergies or a cold
with all due respect, the video was about debunking the short term tricks of breathing and closing your nose, though the tutle says how to syop water going up the nose while swimming, and the only part i saw that actually helps you to stop getting water up your nose was the very end with the 25 tips guide (maybe not even)
What felt normal? The water in the nose? I try to do the same at the moment, and it kind of feels like teaching your body that water in your nose isn't equal to drowning. But then again, I still have water in my nose. Breathing out through the nose underwater is somehow extremely difficult.
I really need to thank you. I am 42 and I started to learn freestyle over 2 years ago. Until now my biggest struggle was to find a way to swim continuously. While I am ok aerobically and my muscles adapted to swimming over time the breathing was always an issue. Of course it took me ages to identify why I feel exhausted after 250m. I started to watch videos from many top yt gurus and to try their ways. Some give harmful advice which makes beginners stagnate or even give up on swimming (esp the Skills&Talents weird guy recommending to hold breath). Finally after months I found this video. It saved my swimming and my triathlon dreams. You saved my swimming and my triathlon dreams! It took just a few sessions of practice and I am now able to swim over 1k without going out of breath, without the CO2 buildup. You unlocked what seemed impossible. I was also getting water in my nose resulting in headaches and blocked nose staying with me even 48h after swimming. This problem is gone too. Swimming is back! Thank you Justin! Take good care! Jakub
Here's the thing about retraining breathing, I'm a licensed PTA and part of our intervention for increasing oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange is to breath in through you nose and out through your mouth. If we retrain the way we breath to perform this technique your talking about would you suffer later on down the road functionally outside of swimming?
This issue is what's stopping me from being a professional mermaid I can't stand water going up my nose. It always ends up in my throat and making my cough
if you are a scuba diver DONT wear the nose plugs, you need to be able to blow out youtrnose to empty the mask and normalize pressure at depth, you can really hurt yourself if you have completely plugged your nose..
@@Narusasu98 there's 2 equalizations, one is sinus equalization which you're referring to. The other is mask equalization to prevent getting mask squeeze and injuring your eyes. You need to exhale small amounts into your mask to prevent mask squeeze. You can bleed through your eyes and go blind if you don't prevent mask squeeze.
Good idea to do breathing drills in the gym. Many years ago when I was a beginner at the gym, my friend told me to double inhale through the mouth and exhale through the nose for endurance stuff. This will be a change, but gives me something to practice. I like they you acknowledged that the problem for beginners is too many things to keep track of. I used the nose clips for this reason. I am in my forties and I am quite nervous in the water due to learning late and having bad experiences in the water in early life. It's quite a challenge, but always moving forwards.
Nose clip helped me break my fear from water , I tried many times to hold my breath under water and do a simple move i ended up inhaling water in my nose which is a nightmare. But yes breathing through mouth is hard, makes me tired and makes my mouth extremely dry... I try to avoid using the clip after I get used to being in water
@@toshareed5187 Just put them on and make sure they're tight enough easy, go to a shallow pool, hang one hand to the rim and take your head under water a few times until you can stay under for a decent period, then take off your hand and let your body sink (since you're wearing goggles and nose clip you wont get scared) do that a few times until you feel that the water actually takes you back to the top, and after that moment you can trust the water to let your whole body go and start those standard exercises. Good luck
I have the issue with swallowing when water does get in my sinuses and I can’t just swallow and stop or even just not swallow and I’m worried I won’t ever get to become scuba cert if I can’t do this simple life or death task
They close there soft palate using multiple methods such as thinking about talking with your nose plugged without plugging it or put your tounge on the roof of the mouth
I can still breathe out through my nose with the nose clip on and I get a much longer time in between breaths with the nose clip because it takes longer to breathe all the air out.
@@Erbilforever Nose clips are not tight and they pinch from the top so my nostrils are not fully restricted. If you try to breathe with a nose clip on you’ll see what I mean.
I have watched almost every video on youtube, read every article, water just goes in my nose and burns my ears & the back of my brain .. I am sentenced to use noseplugs .. Also a shame, i'm a good swimmer, most can't compete, but i can't dive properly, can't swim under water properly ... fml ..

Nice, i have the same cap, and that was one of my actual questions what unanswered about swimming, what you talking about. Otherwise thanks for very usefull tips you given.
You gotta help me Justin. I jumped in the pool today water went up my nose I just about freaked out, if it wasn’t for my water survival skills, turning over on my back, I would of panicked and started taking in water and started to drown.
Haha omg i came to watch how to stop water coming up the nose as a back swimmer and then you said "no avoid it" so i was like... "big yikes" until you said to use the clip 😂 but really tho, i can never understand how back swimmers go underwater and not snort up half the pool while they are under 🧐🤔
Some ppl cant breath out through the nose. You remember when you were a kid and there was always that one kid that always had his mouth open in class? Lol But yeah I’m not one of those ppl thankfully. My bf is a surfer. He stopped surfing for a while and just started getting in the water again and he gets a lot of water up his nose and I’m trying to help find him a solution to clear up his sinuses.
hey bro m. in problem plzz tell mee i am a beginner swimmer and water got stucked in ny ears and not getting out what should i do ?? tried all exercises except laying down and medicines and how do i open my ears plzz😱😵
There are some ear drops that help, ask at the drug store. Putting your head down might also help. What can help you in the next times you go to swim is to buy some specific ear drops that protect against trapped water (not the same as the ear drops for when you already have the water stuck). You use the product 30min before swimming and it works well

When exhaling both (nose & mouth). Can you guys do exhale both at the same time? Or exhale to the nose first, and mouth next?
Make a video on how to swim more laps without stopping
sure
It's pretty weird that I am the opposite, I can control and make my mouth breathing way better than using my nose.
