    I really like how you try to take key elements, break them apart into manageable pieces, clearly communicate, then put it all together again. I think this is a good way of teaching any skill.
    It is definitely an issue for me not getting enough air before a flip turn. Will try to work on it, thanks.

    Thanks, Coach M. Very helpful video, as always. My question is, don't we reach the wall (or should i say, the floor "T" marker) at different lengths? When do i know it's time to take my last inhale, in preparation for the flip turn exhale? I might end up too far from the wall. Thanks!

    . Great video. The problem i have is that in order not to get any water up my nose i have to exhale quite forcibly, which means im getting rid of all my air in just a few seconds, so i dont have enough air to carry through a proper turn and underwater swim before surfacing. Ive tried exhaling softly, but thats not enough to prevent water entering nose. Is there ere anything you can recommend to help this difficulty? Thanks

    Thank you, Coach Mandy! You make the flip turn look so easy! :) I hope after doing thousands of them, I could look the same. My problem isn't breath timing but rather exhaustion in the water. I typically swim distance for triathlon training, so for me, the first 300m or so is the easiest to execute the best flips. But after about 500m, I'm tired and I seem to undershoot the wall and flip too early, or something breaks down and it's a struggle to hold my breath long enough through the turn. Is it a fitness issue or am I doing something wrong?

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  3 года назад +4

      David Gerich that’s definitely a breath control issue but a combination of form as well. If you don’t relax your exhale and time it right, you will feel out of breath with too much build up. Especially if you flip to early it’s hard to find leverage then that will make you feel tired as well. Keep working at it and find consistent landing first on the wall.

      @@SWIMVICE Thanks, Coach Mandy! I'll try to focus on form and time my exhale better. The flip turn is fun, so I have to keep trying. I never could do it when I was a young swimmer. It's exciting to learn as an adult. Your videos help. :)

    ""Hello Here"", thanks for sharing the video❗ I have never done a flip turn before, and I would like to practice the technique. I have a flat arch on the back and would be difficult to do a flip turn in the swimming pool. Can I still learn how to do a flip turn❓ This one will be new for me this year after the COVID-19. So, I will add to my e-mail for an update.

    Hi, coach Mandy,
    over the last months i developed nasal hyperreactivity after my swimming sessions. The nose is running for hours, in the same time it also feels stuffed. The doctor didn’t find anything unnormal and just recommended to avoid the stimulus i.e. swimming.
    Do you or any of your followers have some experience with this and maybe a solution other then giving up the sport?

    this is going to sound ridiculous, but I wonder if I have trouble breathing out during flip-turns because my nose is so big. I've experimented with just my head dipped into the water, upside down, and I find that I struggle to push air out of my nose. I think perhaps people with smaller noses find it easier because their nostrils have less surface area, and hence there's less pressure to overcome. am I crazy?

    • @moulaye7534

      No, I've had the same issue, almost gagging to it.
      Just keep practising near the wall, just lying on your back.
      Best of luck.

    Diving reflex can be revived in adulthood so that you will never again have to exhale to avoid water in the nose.

    @catherinedoan81 3 года назад

    how do you get a longer exhale??

    • @SWIMVICE
      @SWIMVICE  3 года назад

      By taking a breathe right before gliding into a flip. This will give you enough reserve to exhale through the turn. 🙌✅🏊‍♀️👍 Enjoy your practice Catherine! Best, Coach Mandy

    A bit of a correction. You have to exhale HARD out the nose or the weight of the water will overcome through your nostris. I'd say about 5-7 psi is what you should be exhaling.

    • @proxyzov
      @proxyzov 2 года назад

      not really. you would basically get rid of all the air inside your nose and u would need to go back to the surface very fast
