Better explanation than my coach who I paid 500 bucks for the swimming lesson. He kept pushing me to adopt to having water inside my nose which is the worst.

My problem is the tiny bits of water that enters the mouth and goes into my throat. No matter how I try to cough it out while still swimming, it remains there and disrupt my whole breathing routine. How do I get rid of the water (a drop or two) without disrupting my breathing? What I'm doing now when it happens, is to breathe on every stroke until I get rid of the water and becomes comfortable again. I'd like to think I breathe quite well observing all the basic requirements like, one goggle in the water, head well-aligned, rotate to breathe etc. Just that the little bits of water tend to interfere with my swim. What can I do?

This is a great video Coach Mandy and is exactly what I needed! I am an adult beginner swimmer and have been having quite a bit of difficulty with my breathing technique. I haven't been able to get much help from my instructors so this video is invaluable. I do have a question about the timing of the breaths. I noticed at 6:47 you are taking a breathe every 4 arm strokes. This is what I prefer but I have seen others who take a breathe every 2nd or 3rd arm stroke. Is the 4 strokes the correct timing or is it based on personal preference? Thank you kindly.

Ideally you will practice different breathing ratios & you will get to the point you can breathe on both sides. Try breathing every 2nd or third stroke!

As demonstrated, should we breathe from nose or mouth? Right now I inhale from mouth.

Thanks Mandy: You're video on keeping water out of your nose was great. Question: I feel I have the pocket. However, I am in an open water race in a couple of weeks. I need to sight about every six or seven strokes just to keep aligned with the markers. I feel it's here when I get water up my nose (quite badly). Any tips on this? Thanks.

Can you please guide me on how to co-ordinate my limbs especially when I try to turn my head to grasp air? Because every time I tried, either I couldn't breathe or my legs would sink. My limbs would be out of count and I started to get panic. Thanks.

I had the same problem… but now I’ve learnt to breathe properly…
What I do is I take the breath in when my face is out of the water then immediately inside the water I exhale through my mouth and as I’m turning my head I exhale through my nose then my head is out and I inhale again through mouth of course😂… try it out…
Now I swim without any problem
